It's a grocery store that has crappy customer service. You'd think I could agree with the person talking about its proximity to ASU and how "college students ruin it" or whatever, but that isn't the case at all- it's the staff. I like to go to stores that have self check-outs for the convenience and speed, as usually people opt for the traditional cashier. Well, this Safeway has some rude jerks patrolling their U-Scan. There's this dude with a beard that I encounter 90% of the time. Besides perennially smelling like he forgot to use deodorant, he's always flirting or gossiping with other employees and he acts like his dog knocked something off his table when he has to come help people, which is always with me since I grab the 50% off items and you always have to have a cashier check them in. He just takes the crap, does his duty, and walks away. No "anything else?" or "glad I could help" or "f-you" or anything. My wife had a similar ordeal with him where he disappeared for a cool 10 minutes while he was searching for something for her in the middle of her order, and he didn't even address her or anything when he came back; she had to go to him. The other two people I've had at U-scan have been young women, both as abrupt as the other dude. The one got visibly pissed when I wanted a raincheck, and stomped away to get it as I guess she didn't have them stocked at the U-Scan register. Grow up. I went through a regular cashier station to do an experiment, and they were pretty pleasant. Annoying how I have to waste time in a line to get good service, when U-Scan has to be the easiest position up in the place. That beard guy sucks. read more

If you can get over the exorbitant prices (twice as much as Fry's) you get to wait forever in the in adequate check out lines. They could add more self checkout lines but they're to cheap. Decent selection, you will pretty much find all of the brands you are looking for. It's pretty expensive overall. Maybe that's just groceries in general, but I spend a lot of money on food, I guess. The liquor and beer department is pretty large and they have good deals on alcohol most of the time. It gets busy during dinner time. Usually their cashiers can handle it. There is a Wells Fargo bank and Starbucks inside of the grocery store, which is a big perk for me. They also have Coinstar and movie rentals, I think a Blockbuster box. read more

Best meat department I have ever been to (and I am a meat guy, so I go to MANY meat departments.) The butchers are the best here. Especially a guy named Pike. He has always been very informative and goes way above and beyond to do a great job and prepare meat correctly. read more

Do not leave the store without a receipt! They missed an item from my purchase and, when I called back, said they couldn't do anything since I didn't have a receipt. The clerks were rude and they hung up on me the first time I called. I will not be back. read more

If I could give this grocery store a 0 star score, I would. My friends and I went grocery shopping this afternoon and we had a horrible experience with a male in the meat department. A man named Randy was extremely rude when my friend asked him if he could get us 15 pieces of bacon when he had a moment. He seemed to be helping another customer so we waited, but Randy then began rolling his eyes and mumbling to his coworker behind him. Not only was Randy rude, but he then threatened to take my friend outside. I immediately spoke with a manager because this is our local grocery store and I do not want problems in the future. The manager somewhat agreed that this was unacceptable behavior, but did not even ask for the man's name. I have worked in customer service for five years and this is completely unacceptable. I can not believe this happened in the first place, but then for the lack of care from a manager is unbelievable. You never threaten anyone, especially a paying customer. Review for it's Pharmacy : I had to get some vacciness like 1.Chicken Pox 2.Measles (MMR) i.e Mums,Measles, Rubella 3.Tida (Tetatnus & Dipththeria Toxoids Since i didn't have health insurance Safeway is best priced clinic in providing all pharmicist services. I took my Vaccines in Feb-March Time Frame this year (2014). However i din't take all vaccines in 1 day. I took a gap of 15 days in each.Call them to schedule or talk to them while you go to buy grocery.Thier Doctors are good. I was charged $ 79.99 for MMR II , $ 30 for Flu $59.99 Adacel for all three vaccines. Adacel is a next substitute for TIDA.Its almost the same. And i was given 10 % off discount on Safeway Groceries for each vaccine i took. And it is not necessary that you do grocery for very same day. You can avail that coupon anytime in a month's span i guess. I had heard about CVS Pharmacy or others but they charge you more than Safeway for the same vaccines. The guest service shouldn't even be open because there is none. I arrived and waited 10min for the manager to come out of the back after I could see him in the mirror window. I have purchased money orders from this place once a month for the past year but not today. This guy tells me the max I can get is $200 and I said that's fine I'll buy two items and get that each time like I have done for the last year. Nope he tells me he won't do it and to use the wellsfargo atm. What a waste of time but if you are on a minimum wage hourly I guess you gotta be tough on something. Costumer service is horrible I will not be coming back. I came in at midnight tonight to do some shopping. It had appeared the closed off the section where the restrooms were for waxing. They had not even started to wax yet but refused to let me use the washroom. So I thought whatever and started my shopping. By the time I got half way across the store they had shut down half of the market! They weren't even waxing and wouldn't let me grab the few items I needed. Worst yet is they were rude and refused to grab them for me if I wasn't allowed in the roped off areas. Customer service is a big thing for me and this places lacks it. Produce is almost always rotten (or at least of poor quality) meat selection is tiny, oddly set up and always switching things around. It should not be your first choice and its only advantage is proximity to the University. You will find things past experation date by weeks and sometimes over a month. Staff is friendly enough but often in the way. Shopped for groceries on 3/29/16 and there were Frozen Calorie Counter Egg and Cheese pockets that expired in 2014 and 2015 in the Novelties and Snacks section of the Frozen aisles. read more

Overall the worst grocery store I've ever been to, and some of the worst customer service I have seen period. Poor stock on produce, much of which looks blemished or old, and I've reported over 5 items with broken or ripped packaging and returned three due to going moldy far before expiration date or because they were damaged before purchased, all within the past 4 months. My room mates also have multiple instances of poor quality food or returnable items. Unacceptable, this is basic stuff for a grocery store to get right and this Safeway completely fails. The customer service here is miserable. I have had many issues with machines not reading my debit card (which I know functions just fine), or looking for certain items, and consistently see a lack of caring from even head management! They do not put any effort into helping you at all. Considering that this is the only reasonable grocery store for ASU students without transportation to shop at, I am beyond disappointed. read more

I always do my grocery shopping here it's a couple cents more expensive then other stores (Frys,Walmart) but I think it's worth it! Very friendly customer service and clean store. Love Starbucks located in-store also :) yum! read more

I'll never visit here again. Left my phone in cart. Came back an hour later when I realized it was missing. I checked the cart return but the cart I used was gone so I checked all the cart returns just in case and all the carts up front where they put them for customers to grab before entering the store. It wasn't there so I went inside & asked if anyone turned it in. I talked to a man who called the customer service, he directed me to go talk to her to confirm it was my phone they found. The customer service worker, I believe the manager said her name was Esmerelda, said no one turned a phone in. Went back home(i live nearby) & remembered I could track it using google. Guess what? It was inside the store. My Husband drove over & told the manager (Mark) he knew they had it because we tracked it. After fumbling in the safe room for over 5 minutes, he came back & said he found it in the safe and it must have just got turned in. So you mean to tell me someone kept my phone for over an hour & then magically turned it in, in the 8-10 mins it took me to get home, track it, see it was in the store, and my husband drive over? I don't believe it. Plus he made it seem like he had no idea it just got turned in to my husband but when I went back to file a complaint, he told me someone turned it in to a cashier & he put it in the safe himself. Came to this store to buy some groceries. Used the self checkout line. Clerk asked for my ID and continued with the sale. The machine malfunctioned and the associate had to help. This managing staff must be retarded. After 20 minutes of trying to help me they could not refund the money to my gift cards for at least 24 hours. Staff is uneducated and flat out rude. I would not recommend coming to this store. There are many more reputable businesses in the area that have cheaper prices. read more

This is the best Safeway I have been to. It doesn't take a genius to know Safeways prices are a little higher then other grocery stores. BUT their store is very clean and very nice. I love their bakery, they have the best bagels, cookies, brownies, cakes, etc. I love their selections of food in their deli area. The wait in there is not even long, I never been in line for no more then 5 min. Yes I wish they have better prices but for what you get its a very nice store. Had a very bad experience with the Rude older woman with brunette hair and glasses at the customer service counter. I'll never shop in your store or recommend that any of my family or friends shop there or do business. She needs training on how to be good at her job. First of all I walk up to the counter I stand there 3mins before she appears from behind the mirror door. She then walks away to the other end of the store for another 5mins. When she returns she then say I'll be right with you because I asked if I can get some help. Finally she takes my western union form to pickup money. Then she say. I can't get it because the person sending it didn't include my middle initial. But yet I have the person sending it name & the MTCN number like I've always have when picking up money from Safeway. No other person has ever required my middle initial before. She was just a mean and rude person. I have since spoke with Western Union and was told thats not required. This is like the second time she's given me a hard time sbout something. Last time cashing a check I asked for large bills and she gave me 20 $1 bills saying all customers cashing checks had to take at least 20 one dollars bills. I just don't think thats they way customers should be treated. In the future Frys will get All of my business. read more

We used to spend $100s of dollars a week here. After tonight's experience, we will never be shopping here again and will instead go to Frys, Bashas, and the multiple international markets in the valley that we enjoy shopping at. The customer service here is horrible. We were waiting in line behind someone who had forgotten their pin. The cashier dealt with him for 20 minutes while we waited there and he didn't say anything to us. After this time period, we walked to a different line and got checked out and left while the other cashier was still dealing with the guy who had forgotten his pin. The cashiers should not waste the customers time by taking an excessive amount of time dealing with someone who forgot their pin. When I brought up the situation with the night manager, who was a larger woman, she seemed like she couldn't give a crap about us and this horrible experience! She didn't even apologize for it. Managers should not be so rude as to be completely oblivious and careless when a customer brings up a problem. I will not ever be shopping at a Safeway ever again since the company apparently thinks that it is okay to treat customers like this. read more
