I love Safeway's sales. They have much more on sale than what they show in the ads, so now I go for a stroll weekly to check things out before doing my major shopping. They have the best grocery store bagels in their bakery. Not heavy nor dense like other stores. My husband's favorite. The bakery makes beautiful desserts and baked goods. You can make loved ones feel special without spending a fortune. I love their flowers and produce. I can't give them 5 stars as their cart boy ran into my mom's car and left a nice dent. Nothing was done. Their red meats make myself adnthe girls ill. It is a supplier thing. Many times their digital deals do not register. If you do not check out with the right person they will not know how to resolve. I still must come here weekly to see what speaks to me. I am hooked. read more

I really like Safeway. I find the prices to be fairly reasonable and good sales/deals. Most of the employees are helpful & cordial. The meats are always good quality & look good. I don't know what it is about this location though but I'm noticing each time I leave that my head hurts, a basic headache or a migraine. Not sure if it's customers, employees, cleaning products, lighting, or what. It's so weird to me. I haven't noticed it anywhere else but it's something I need to pay attention to. read more

I was surprised I'd never been to this location before since I've frequented the area so many years, but this part of Surprise seams to have quite a few grocery stores nearby. I don't shop Safeway very often because they seem to be the most expensive store around. At times they do have good ads, but I prefer winco or Fry's. Today I was in a bit of a hurry but needed a couple things so I stopped. Parking was pretty easy and wasnt over crowded like the one off Bell and Cotton. The store was clean and pretty dead for the time of day. I only spoke with one employee asking where an item was and then did self checkout. The interaction was good, but nothing over the top or anything. I'd come again if in the area. read more

The service there has gone from bad to...abysmal at best. Customer service used to be good, but not now. The cashier doesnt ring up half my purchases. I had a migraine starting and didnt notice I didnt have my food for dinner and several other items. The people behind me got it without the cashier even trying to come and get me. I'm on oxygen for pete's sake & i was not moving fast. Angela, in CS got abrupt, not very patient, then sent me to the app that doesnt have what she said. Of course not, it's mainly for delivery & pickups. The pharmacy has great employees, but their texting, calling when a script is ready no longer is used. Check the app. Really? The app doesn't have them, either. The employees have become complacent, don't seem to want to be there, so I don't have to be there, either except for my as they are the only ones who actually do their jobs. read more

I have nothing but positive things to say about this Safeway location! I have been to this store countless times over the year and I've never had any issues. I went in yesterday and picked up a few gift cards for coworkers from Starbucks (conveniently located inside Safeway!) and a few things I needed like sour cream. I put two stars because of my experirnce at checkout. The employee at register name was Blake. Blake was not welcoming. Did not say hello, how are you, did you find everything ok, have a good day- nothing. Blake seemed like he didnt want to be working & clearly didnt care about customer service. The only thing I heard was when he asked the manager if he could go on break. He was scanning slow as well. I usually dont come to this location & now I know why. Very disappointed in Safeway's customer service. I got in line to check out only 1 cashier working the register. I waited 5 minutes then asked the employee who was watching over the self checkout area if there was another checker? He just shrugged his shoulders and said no. I waited another 8 minutes before another checker finally showed up and checked out my groceries. The employee did come over to help with the bagging and I stated to him 15 minutes to check out my groceries and pay you $110 was somewhat ridiculous and his only comment was "Yah I know isn't that something" After spending 40 years in retail and 10 years at Safeway as a manager I know what a smart ass comment is. don't trust the safeway in Surprise off Thunderbird. Purchased cash a $100 itunes gift card. Card was not activated, contacted Mgr told to come by . I also contacted Itunes who said the transaction was voided on safeway end. My husband went to manager and was told it was a process to research because our receipt shows we purchased the card. Well we are out $ 100 cash and no working gift card. This gift card was not used by someone(like those scams you hear- it was activated and voided per Apple ) I am going to send a letter to main safeway but there is something fishy happening. Never had issues with safeway before but to be passed around and no resolution when it was cold hard cash appears that someone voided the transaction and took the cash we paid. Well, I have to say, I'm not very pleased with this store. We most recently moved here from out of state two weeks ago. And our first trip I had requested cash back only 20$ but she had forgotten it and I had to come back to the store once I realized. However my daughter and I were there again last night, and four young boys came into the store; unsupervised, riding the electric chairs in and around the store. The boys were ramming the carts into shelves and one another while laughing and screaming throughout the store. Now I understand the store is not allowed to say things to customers except "how can we help you?" But as a manager and business owner if there were four children ramming electric carts into shelves in the store I managed I would definitely be asking them to leave. My daughter and I were in the alcohol section grabbing a few items as we have company coming. And I went to place a large glass bottle of alcohol into my car and got startled by these kids and the large glass bottle dropped onto my foot immediately sending me into tears- I could barely walk on my foot- immediately swollen and bruised. I proceeded to the check out because the items were a must have- where the cashiers could clearly see I was hurt - and I received an "I'm sorry". Well the pain was unbearable- I had to go to the hospital because the pain was shooting into my shin. X-rays, hospital visit and no health insurance is not adding in my favor right now. I sometimes order delivery from here cause they carry a certain burger brand that you can only get from Albertsons or Safeway. I noticed whenever I get a delivery order, I have a few items that are expired or going to be expired in a few days. Curious to see if its just my shoppers, I went into this location myself to get some food. Low and behold, there are tons of expired food or about to be expired food on the shelf. If you shop here or have a shopper shopping for you, please let them know to carefully check the expiration dates. I'm not sure why Safeway doesn't have anyone checking the shelf like other grocery stores do, but I will be submitting a complaint to corporate as this seems to be a common issue at this store. read more

Shout out to the cake decorator in this store. She keep her head held high when a customer was screaming at her because she didn't have an item in stock. I have never seen anyone treated so badly. This store has some serious management problems. The cashiers are all rude as can be, they don't care anything about the customer and they talk to you like you are putting them out if you ask any type of special question. The only one that was worth there weight was the florist who I believe does not work there anymore because they abused her as well. If you like Safeway, as I do also then do yourself a favor and go to a different location. This store needs to be completely revamped from the top management down to the baggers. Oh my God the bathrooms are disgusting the floors are dirty they need new toilets. The walls are disgusting like it's all banged up and chipped! There are writings on the wall for a good neighborhood looks really bad. I have NEVER been a Safeway shopper as I am truly into my grocery shopping experience. Unfortunately, I was really dissapointed in this location because I thought that being BRAND NEW and in competition with Fry's Marketplace they would "step up their game." Honestly...not so much. The SMELL of this store makes me instantly naseous when I enter it. I don't know WHAT the nondescript smell is but it is the MAIN reason that I can't stomach (litterally) going to this store. I just feel SO overwhelmed in Safeway. Like there is SO much STUFF to choose from yet the prices are really unrealistic. I will say that the employees are (for the most part) very friendly...but I get SO sick of hearing "Thank you Mrs. (insert MADIEN name)"....even though I've asked them to change that HOW many times. I don't do a lot of grocery shopping,,,,,, don't you judge me! lol I was at the bank next door & was dying of hunger & I remembered that they have a deli that years back had a sandwich I was in love with. The deli is as soon as you walk in, right near the Starbucks. Low & behold, my old flame was still there. The California Dreaming Signature sandwich (insert googly eyes & big sigh here). It's turkey with avocado (fresh, not that weird sour cream blend they try to give in other places) & what gives this sandwich that extra little something is the ranch spread they add. Get your killer gas discounts one, in store says up to $1.00, but now signs outside say up to $2. I find that I have to ask for a receipt at the pump and I have no issues with the discount. The times I forget to hit yes for a receipt, I get robbed by st least .10 cents, once .40. I've seen other customers with the same issue. As for the store, for being a newer one, it's lacking a lot. I'd drive up to Cotton and Bell, but I just go to Frys. The pharmacy is good, always have my meds in stock every month like clockwork. Check expiration dates, but that's Safeway in general, not just this location. read more

Repeatedly I've gone into this location and found expired food on the shelves. When I've brought this to the attention of employees they did nothing, on multiple occasions. I finally called corporate after I personally handed a cashier expired merchandise then when I went back a week later it was back on the shelf. This happened again after I brought the very same item to another employee. It took me filing a complaint and speaking to a manager in the store before the product was finally pulled off the floor. Eli gives excellent shots. That is something for me to say as I hate shots. On the way out, passed by the Deli. They are advertising Street Tacos, Taco Tuesday 4 for $5. I'm hungry for tacos so this sounds really good. We get two each fish tacos & chicken tacos. There is Thousand Island dressing topping the fish taco, that's just So wrong!! The chicken has a decent spice on it but still falls short. Overall they weren't bad, just not good. If you want a quick taco that tastes like a taco, go to Del Taco, TacoBell or even Jack in the Box. read more

*Update* Oh... my... GAWD... what happened to you, Safeway? The wine selection is about a third of what it used to be. The bakery doesn't carry the yummy desserts that it used to. The staff... WTF? Does Safeway not have a secret shopper program anymore? I had to return an item, which I had purchased yesterday, but then realized it was 11 days expired. There were SIX employees, literally standing around, as a manager rang up customers and handled my return. Does she apologize? No. Does she ask one of the employees to get a replacement? No... she tells me to go get it and come back to the CS desk. So I grab the item and go back... but she's ringing up another customer and I'm staring at 6 people, who just stare back. I was truly apalled, at this display of mismanagement and apathy. This location started off so well, too. I guess that is what happens, as the real estate flopped pretty badly in this area. Time to select the cheese to go with my whine elsewhere. Down from 4 stars, to 2. Sad. Just sad. ____________________________________________________ I don't care that Safeway charges a bit more for normal stuff. I just love this location. Friendly, helpful people, always yummy stuff in the deli, fresh veggies/fruits, pretty big wine selection for a chain store, and the guy in the bakery is an absolute doll to my cookie-grubbing offspring. This place is really convenient (gas station, gift cards, flowers, Starbucks) but it could have all that and I'd pass it up, if the people weren't so darn nice. Yeah, I know they do (or did) secret shopper, but the cashiers are always really fast, talkative (I'm a total stranger talker) and smile when I have to force my kids to put back the umpteen packs of gum they've grabbed. They make me feel welcome, instead of rolling their eyes when I can't find my card or just gossiping with whoever is bagging instead of saying 'Hi'. Love this as a quick in and out store and decent clearance. Can't afford to shop for groceries here but the deals are sometimes good. They have all the clearance items since some of the stores in this area don't allow clearance. The pharmacy rocks they open at 8 AM and I've never waited more than 25 minutes for any script. My daughter and I went there to pick up some dessert for a get together because they usually have a pretty good selection. This time they didn't and on top of that some of their cakes and pies had mold growing on it. I was so grossed out so we left. On our way out we ran into a lady pushing a cart with some bread and I asked her if she worked in the bakery department and she said "Yes! Can I help you with something?" I like coming to this Safeway. Scott, the manager is super nice and he is ALWAYS there! There is not a lot of people that shop here, which is nice when you're in a hurry. I do most of my shopping at Frys but have noticed the last couple of times that the produce at Safeway has been cheaper and of better quality than Frys. They normally have 2 registers open but they quickly call for help when the line gets a bit backed up. So if you are in a hurry and just need to get in and out quickly or want really good produce give this place a try! read more

I shop and get gas here sometimes when I can't find what I want elsewhere. Fry's tends to be more crowded so I usually come here instead. Unfortunately, there is not much of a grocery selection so I don't come here often. I also think the prices are a bit high. read more

If I could have given a O I would have. After advertising coffee on sale with digital download I was told I couldn't use it as it had already been used. I am the only one with this card could not have possibly been used. The Spanish girl at customer service same as called me a liar. I guess you get what you pay for but you shouldn't advertise then not let the customer have the advertised price. Very rude young women if I ever treated a patient like she treated me I would be fired. Young I get it rude and no manners unacceptable. Today you lost 3 customers in my family I will make sure people know how I was treated so they don't frequent your store. At least Frys knows how to train their employees properly so that is where we will go from now on we on average shopped at at this store 3 or 4 times a week.
