I've stopped by several times over the past 8 years for a water or soda or something like that. Never for a fuller grocery list. Yesterday I needed to get a few more things, since the kids were spending the weekend with my parents and they needed junk food LoL. I found everything I needed. Poptarts. OJ. Cookies. Chips. Candy. And a few other things to balance out the junk. It worked out pretty good.

Although the prices of the canned and packaged goods seem to be a little high, I found the prices of Produce very, very reasonable. In fact, I bought a giant variety bag of discounted citrus for $1.69 and tangelos for .69 cents a pound, which is an amazing price, no matter where you are. Mostly though, I want to commend how nice, clean, clutter-free and organized the section is. The veggies and fruits are very, very fresh, and the displays looked attractive and maintained. I can tell a lot of care and attention to detail goes into this part of the store. I guess that's all I have to say. The rest of the store was clean, and the cashiers all seemed very nice.

I stood outside for 10 minutes hoping a kind soul would give me a stupid quarter for their carts. I don't carry cash nor a bunch of loose change in my purse. I was preparing to do a big shopping trip. Instead I was completely turned off by the process of something that should be simple -- having something to hold your groceries in. Finally I coerced some poor child who was bringing their cart back to give me their cart and not lock it back up. So stupid. At checkout, I drag the few items I decided to purchase to the cashier and wouldn't you know it....no bags of any kind. What in the world is this place? Needless to say I won't be going back until you act like other stores because the lack of convenience ain't worth it for me. I realize Aldi thinks they are saving money somehow by locking up their carts. But I think the offset of losing customers that don't want to deal with inconvenient things should be considered.

I almost always find spoiled/badly bruised/moldy produce. Keep your receipts! I don't may even buy milk there anymore. It consistently goes bad long before sell by date. Try to return it and catch crap from customer service. I have found a lot of compromised packaging after getting home. Cracked yoplait in eight packs where it isnt seen, lots of sliced bags: candy, English muffins... Check items carefully and SAVE receipts!!! Lots of floor spills... about a third of the time I go, there is a significant spill. (Blue gel squiggle all the way down the shampoo aisle), etc. They aren't walking the aisles for floor checks. I actually went down hard with a slip on a dropped and splattered butter spread container. Between cameras, but nobody came. Watch out in frozen food aisles for uncovered drain holes

Having spent time in Northern CA, I love the stuff. So the search was on for for dumplings, noodles and my favorite, Lumpia. Chinese new year is a week away, so why not. So I found Lam's in Avondale. Lam's is a medium size market with merchandise squeezed into every nook of the store. The isles are someone narrow and have a dizzying array of things to take in. They have a nice meat market with seafood galore. They also have candy of all types and prepared food for takeout. There's just too much to describe. What I thought was really neat, was that they have isles for each ethnicity; Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and even Jamaican. I was looking for banana sauce for my Lumpia and found that it was not with the other Chinese sauces. I had to look for it in the Filipino section. Interestingly, the crowd there was very diverse. If you need fresh seafood or anything Asian food related, I can't imagine not finding it at Lam's! I will let my photos do the talking.
