It's a Safeway, it's open 24 hours, and it's the closest one to my apartment. By default, this is where I will go for groceries when I'm lazy or it's late at night and need something. I feel like all the Safeways are getting renovated and this was renovated a few years ago. It's got a Starbucks, it's got a sandwich/food station, it's fairly large and has a decent selection of stuff. Is it cheap? Not necessarily. But convenient? Yes. You may need to wait in line for a while, and customer service may not be their strong point, but if I need some sugar mid-baking session at 2am, this is where I'm going. Throw in some liquor too. This is for the pharmacy. Dominick was my cashier and he at first refused to sell me a generic Zyrtec D drug probably because my eyes were red and I was sneezing a lot and having a hard time breathing. All of the effects of severe allergies. Which is what I was purchasing the pills for. I handed him my ID kindly and he threw it back to me when he was finished scanning it. I really hate the fact that people judge you for what you look like. I'm sorry I was suffering with allergies at the time of my purchase. Just because other people abuse these medications majority of the people actually NEED THEM. Wish I could give Dominick zero stars. He doesn't even deserve one. read more

Went there tonight and apparently people who don't want to pay for bags and are too lazy to bring their own are stealing the hand carts...IDIOTS!! Not a big fan of the huge conglomerates that own several chains but when you need some services they are the only ones to go to. Today I had some change to turn in, all banks these days make you roll and sign the coins before you can turn them in for cash. I went here to use the coin star machine and let me tell you this thing works great, not they do take some of your money but heck its worth it to me for the service. I this Safeway is only getting one star because it can't be any lhave no words to describe how angry I am right now. Earlier tonight I was at this Safeway in Sunnyvale picking up eggs and butter to bake with the kid I babysit. There was a woman in line who couldn't afford all of her groceries. She was paying with her food stamps and didn't have enough to cover the cost of paper towels and diaper wipes. I offered to cover the difference and the cashier told me I couldn't. So the woman said she didn't want the items. When it was my turn, I told the cashier that I wanted to buy the items for her. She said no. This woman, told me I was not allowed to buy paper towels and diaper wipes to help this other woman in need. Needless to say, I got angry. I asked her why I couldn't, and she kept saying it was store policy. Apparently Safeway does not want its customers to be kind to others! I told her she had no right to tell me how to spend my money and that I could buy the items. She kept saying I couldn't. She called her manager over, and her manager said I could buy them so she rung me up.... I really have no words for how disgusted I am by this whole thing. This woman, refused to let me help someone in need. Someone who was just trying to buy things that most of us take for granted. WORST SAFEWAY EVER. DON'T SHOP THERE! UPDATE: I called their corporate office, and the person I spoke to said what happened was unacceptable. She also took my name and number, and told me that someone from that store would be calling me to address my concerns. Well, I called 5 days ago and no one has reached out to me. Let me start by saying I have shopped at this store since it opened. My Mom and Dad spent a lot of money in this store and once I got my own residence, I did as well. Since Victor the Manager has been here, it has gone downhill. The saving grace was that he had Sergio to provide beyond incredible service. Since Sergio moved to the Safeway on El Camino and Maria, it has been a mess. I have witnessed the employees that are not the friends of Victor, be yelled at and mistreated. Victors friends treat customers & coworkers horribly. I have not been back. This store is about 1/4 mile from my house and I now drive to the store on Maria. This Safeway will not get another cent of my money unless major changes are made. I truly feel for the good checkers like Sandra & her daughter, Tamara, Kory & Kyle(the twins) and Cynthia in produce. The parking lot is terrible, they are always out of stock of at least one item on my grocery list, some of the employees are unfriendly/rude, the checkout lines are long... I really hate this place. Why do I keep going back? I don't know. It's really close to my house, and the prices are generally OK. But every single time I go into the store, I leave asking myself why I didn't drive an extra two minutes to the Lucky or 5 minutes to the Nob Hill. read more

Safeway Bernardo Sunnyvale is posting a false closing time on Google. They are normally a 24-hour store, but with the current situation, they've changed to closing at 9:00PM and that is what they are posting. However, they seem to think that "closed" is having the store empty of customers by 9:00PM, so they are blocking the door and declaring the store "closed" at 8:30. The law requires that a store be open during the hours it says it will be open except for unavoidable isolated emergencies. What's happening now is not that. They already modified their hours and the posting thereof, and they should get it right. There is no excuse for them to mislead customers, turning them away during their posted hours for their own convenience. Going to the store is now a planning event for customers, and to be betrayed by the store is unacceptable. read more

An employee named Sergio in this store was really rude and ill-mannered. I bought a bottle of whiskey but its case is missing. I went back to the store to ask for a case. Sergio seemed arrogant and did not feel sorry at all when he couldn't solve this simple problem. When I asked for his name and prepared for a complaint, he even THREW a card at me and said GOOD LUCK to me. I was absolutely shocked. I am shamed of their customer service and will never shop there again. BTW, I heard that this guy is a manager in this store. You gotta be kidding me. read more

This safeway is a little outdated as compared to some of the newer safeways out there. Its serves its purpose I guess but the bakery section doesn't seem to have that many fresh items. I usually go there around 7am in the morning and sometimes they will have freshly baked items out there but most of the times its just stale items from the day before.. read more

Parking lot is a zoo, store is designed weird like... They have a mini Starbucks inside. The prepared food section (soup and pasta) is always messy and full of spilled food. There is a very strange odor that lingers near the ATMS, dislike. One positive, the checkers are always super friendly/nice and they always double bag heavy bags. read more

Okay.. so, we've been coming here for years now and WAS our IT store.. It was clean, organized, and staff is friendly. We never went anywhere else but this Safeway per say but that all changed when we started frequenting other stores such as Milk Pail, Sunnymount and others. This was the first time we started to notice that we were paying a lot at Safeway, usually 3-4 times as much for fresh items such as produce, dairy products etc. We had never noticed it because when we started to shopping at Safeway chains, more than two decades ago, we had begun because they always had great selection, fresh items, and lowest prices. Well, over the years, we always assumed that this philosophy had not changed and that we were indeed getting the lowest prices. It was not until we begun to venture elsewhere that we realized that Safeway has become very expensive for common every day food items, something that surprised us a lot, and at the same time, made us a bit angry, not at the Safeway or it's employees but rather at the Safeway corporation for tricking their customer base. I bet, most customers of Safeway, like ourselves do not even realize this. In any event, you may wonder why 4 stars? Well.. the store is till nice, clean, and staff still friendly. They have services such as In store Wells Fargo, Starbucks, Coin Star, and other things that we do still enjoy. You'll now find us buying bottled water, Sushi in their deli, and food in emergency because it's so close to where we live, and of course, the other items I just mentioned. So, still a good place to go but not for day to day food items such as Dairy and produce, except if on sale. Thanks and enjoy!! read more

Was waiting for employee during midnight shift and i had yo go outside to find them the store was empty..they were outside smoking...I had to wait 20 minutes to pay for my food. Next time this happens, I'm not even kidding i'm just going to walk outside and leave. Also earlier during the night there is maybe two check stands if you are lucky; it makes you wait for 30 minutes to checkout!! read more

Easy to navigate location with a pretty fair selection. As has been common in lots of my recent Safeway experiences the service experience was really lacking. Today I asked a few simple ingredient questions at the deli for one of the prepared salads. They did not know. To there credit they did ask a co-worker (who also did not know) and also printed the label to read the ingredient list to try and address my question. The staffer did a good job trying to address a question without the appropriate resource. This failing in service was not the employees but the companies for not ensuring a knowledge base is provided staff. Had the employee not had the good ingenuity to find an answer i would not have purchased. read more

While I'm a regular at this Safeway, I must say that their are staff is very friendly and the are open 24/7 for those last minute errands or groceries you forgot your last time around. Also, the greens and fruits section looks always fresh, and have great deals on Fridays. Plus, Western Union is available. Keep it up everyone! read more

I used to live in Menlo Park where the Safeway there had amazing service. The staff was super friendly, and they were efficient and well-staffed at all hours of the day (including after midnight). When I moved to Mountain View and started going to this Safeway, the difference was night and day. I regularly wait 10-20 minutes for a check-out after 10pm (there are literally 15 people in line), while the 1 open check-stand is staffed by 2 people. Once I asked a staff member where an item was in the store and her response was "I just got off the clock, you can ask the woman over there." That was ridiculous. Once during a busy rush hour period, the manager spent 10 minutes talking to the check-stand person behind the counter, holding up the entire line. This Safeway is the closest to my home, but I regularly drive somewhere else if I can do shop. It's a horrible shopping experience. read more

The meat department is the most unfriendly group of little boys I have ever met. They cannot even say hi to me when I shop at the store and they are more into helping out other customers then me. Never ever ask Dess or Richard for anything because they will not help you out at all. They think they are the best but their department is the worst Safeway department in the whole county. They can not even give you a hi when you are shopping or ask you if you need help finding something. There is no customer service in the meat department. On a good note the checkers are always friendly and nice. They help you out and remember to remind you to put in your card number. And the bagger Shannon is the most friendly person I have ever met. I don not know if i would recommend this store because I have seen her go out of her way to help customers. But the unfriendly service of the meat department makes me never want to go shopping here. read more

Just had a bad experience at Safeway renting a Rug Doctor. The lady at the counter "Samantha" was very stern when I rented it yesterday saying that if I was even a minute over 24 hours she would charge me for another day. Ok. I made a mental note. Then she said I had to clean it before I return it. She didn't go into too much detail. When I returned it, "Samantha" said that there were hairs on some filter I didn't know about. These Rug Doctors were difficult enough for me to figure out. And there was about 3 tablespoons of water on the waste tank that I couldn't pour out because of the lack of a spout. No matter how you turn the tank you can't get the last bit of water out. I think you would have to take a towel and get your hand in there somehow to get every drop out. Samantha then declared the Rug Doctor dirty and was going to charge me $27.05 for a "cleaning fee". I have rented these machine many times before and was never charged a fee. I complained but Samantha was a stone. So I started to take a picture of the water left in the machine. And Samantha yelled out "NO PICTURE TAKING IN SAFEWAY". She refused to give me her name even though I finally noticed she had a name tag on. I asked Samantha for a supervisor and asked for her name. I talked to a Danielle. Another Safeway employee that doesn't know how to smile. She looks like and has the demenor of the actress Rebecca De Mornay in the movie THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE except she has black hair. The manager Danielle said she was was powerless to help because I am a customer of Rug Doctor and that Safeway has nothing to do with the rental. And that Safeway doesn't make any money from them anyway, so I would have to take up my complaint with Rug Doctor. Then before I gave permission another man Jose(?) took the machine before I could take the pictures I wanted to take. Well I've been a customer of Safeway for 50 years. More actually. This Safeway had a bad manager about 5 years ago but he quickly disappeared. I've never seen Danielle so I think she is new. So I suspect this new rapaciousness and severe demenor of Safeway is likely due to her. read more

The selection of produce and some of the staff is about the only good thing at this Safeway prices are way to expensive and there selection is not very great the bread and doughnuts are ok and the hot food and sandwiches are ok but the bathrooms on the other hand are disgusting they need get new bathrooms entirely the atmosphere is very bland and boring the lines get long and they usually don't have enough cashiers especially at night and theres a guy named Cruz I think he works in the bakery super funny and friendly he's a good guy but over all 4/10 go if you really need to and you have no other option go to target instead it's a lot better there read more

On a busy weekend such as memorial day weekend, there should be more people working at the deli counter, there was one man running back and forth serving customers, the poor guy, I waited for over 15 mins for him to help me. And then there is 3 people working the Chinese food station and they said they can't help with anything but the Chinese food . what kind of service is that?? That is poor management. read more

Overall the place is clean and spacious, but the management is a joke. Not only is the manager 18, he took my complaint as a joke. tis is the nearest grocery ( walking distance from my house) . I go here 1x a week. 3 stars because some products that I need like organic milk or juice with specific brand were always out of stock . There vegetable section looks like not so fresh . I want to buy an organic sweet potato for my baby , it looks like its been stock there for week. And they always have limited fruit selection although tomatoes are abundant in selections . The employees are nice and the cashiers are polite. read more

When you walk into a Safeway anywhere, you expect a certain level of quality. The groceries stocked here were stale and rotten. It was extremely hard to find fresh fruits or vegetables among the stocked shelves. Most of the items were not just old but rotting sitting there. This is the worst Safeway in Sunnyvale. They smash your bananas when they bag the groceries. The store is dark and often dirty. The selection is much more limited than the one on El Camino near the Best Buy. Half the time I go here and end up going somewhere else because they don't have what I need. Do like Safeway for many of their prices and the ease of shopping. When shopping the staff you meet in the isles are always very helpful and friendly. The gentleman at the fish counter is always very outgoing and helpful and calls out to say hello despite I'm not a fish fan and never buy from that counter but love the great guest service. The meat department folks have always been friendly and helpful. At check out I recommend you always jump into a line where the younger guys are. They're faster, friendlier, and more accurate that the gals and for sure the managers that jump on the register. This Safeway is always clean and has a decent variety of selections. read more

Wow! This Safeway was remodeled at the end of 2005 and now it is fabulous. The aisles are spacious. There is a huge deli area, a huge baked goods and bread area, and the produce section features organic produce. This Safeway houses a Starbucks. The staff is helpful. And Safeway's latest store-brand line is all-organic, so you can find their organic offerings on every isle. I'm impressed! read more

One of the cashiers even went out of his way to tell some of the customers that his register was open. I really liked it here. Thought it was going to be much more expensive than it was. Cheaper than whole foods more variety than Walmart found the prices to be very reasonable. If it's your first time shopping there you need to get a members card because I saved 20 dollars by getting one. Most items were stocked and it was pretty clean. Has a full deli meat section bakery grocery and florist department which is great. This will definitely be my go to grocery store. read more
