My wife stopped in here to pick up some groceries. So, I took the time to "window shop". I like it, seeing all the Christmas getting onto the shelves. What the heck is Sugar Plum Sparkling Beverage? Hmmm... I remember the first time I saw brussel sprouts on the stalk. It blew my mind. I never knew that, right? You always bought them already picked and loose in a bag or in the bin. While the store itself is reasonably spacious, the parking area tends to be tight and challenging to maneuver through--we typically opt to park along the side or toward the back near the apartment buildings. As pointed in another recent review by Rakhee Narsude on Google reviews, I had a very rude experience with making a return today. I've been a loyal Trader Joe's customer and have bought many orchids over the past few months. Most have thrived -- I even have photos showing how healthy and long-lasting they've been -- but one was clearly an exception. It failed to bloom, had wilted bulbs, and likely root damage. When I brought it to the Sunnyvale store (316 W El Camino Real) for an exchange, Melissa, the store manager, curtly dismissed my concern. First, she said returns must be within two weeks, then changed her explanation and said it was up to her discretion. There's no clear return policy posted in-store or printed on receipts, which only added to the confusion. I am quite surprised that she is the store manager given she can't clearly articulate the company's policies. Later, I called the San Jose (Bollinger Road) location, where Francisco told me they accept plant returns without a receipt. The inconsistency between stores -- along with Melissa's attitude -- was frustrating. I'll continue shopping at Trader Joe's, but I'll be going to other locations from now on. read more

I am impressed with their products, service, and overall business model. There is positive focus on the customer while also uplifting their employees. The food and snacks are yummy and the fresh produce sells out most days, so turns over quickly. Packaged foods, while processed, appear to be better overall regarding macros & ingredients, compared to other stores. I enjoy their podcast too! read more

There was an extremely rude worker during my visit. I was waiting to grab a couple of cold water bottles from the fridge section. Since the worker had started chatting with a coworker about "slap vs smack," I assumed he was finished restocking. When I walked over and politely said "excuse me" to reach the bottles, he snapped back, "well EXCUSE ME, I'm RESTOCKING THEM." The staff is always friendly, and I've never had any significant issues with items being out of stock for an extended time. I did not know about Trader Joe's Return policy about no return for "overbuying". It will be nice if they make it clear to every customer. I rarely make returns to any stores. Yesterday, I bought several tins of cookies as gifts to my friends. This morning, I found out that this "Jingle Jangle" is a seasonal item that comes out before Christmas season. I could not give those holiday items (which came out last year maybe?) to my friends. I was thinking to myself, "Should I just keep them to myself?," but my family cannot eat all the cookies possibly. I went to make a return, and I was told that there was no return for overbuying. I was very upset and I had to complain. The store manager was very nice to accept my return this time and credited toward my other purchase, probably because it was purchased only yesterday and not last year. I really appreciate. I guess the return policy may be there because some people overpurchase seasonal items or viral items and try to return much later. I am sharing this so that the other people would learn Trader Joe's return policy for "overbuying, " and it would be great if the return policy is displayed clearly in the store or if cashiers make it clear the sale is final and no return is allowed. I am going to make a donation to a local food pantry if anything like this happens next time. read more

I remember back in the days this place used to be a boarders! It's a pretty well spaced out grocery store, and they have a couple of interesting items that other Trader Joe's might have sold out on or maybe this particular store just gets more of that particular inventory. The store is fine. I usually go to a different location, but this is the one I ended up at today. 4 stars mainly bc the line I got in to check out was moving at a snails pace. I have no issue waiting, but the woman ringing up items and the young girl helping her bag were chatting up a storm with the lady checking out. It sounded like she may have been an employee as well shopping on her day off? That's all fine, but maybe go a bit faster. Her cart wasn't even that full when I had originally gotten in line. I waited a bit longer, but once the woman ringing up the items was coughing I decided to bail and go to another line. read more

Shopping at Trader Joe's during the covid-19 pandemic! 2pm any day, 200 yard line of customers, social distancing 6 feet apart, using markers on the sidewalk. The line is cordoned off with ropes, and goes past the Halal Guys, past Chipotle, stretching completely around the corner of Starbucks, to the $4000 a month Cherry Orchard apartments. 6 minute run, or 12 minute walk from my home, arriving at 8am for senior hours 8am-9am every day. They are late opening the store, opening at 8:06am. I wait in line with several dozen other age 65+ seniors, everyone wearing a mask, many wearing plastic gloves. 200 car parking lot largely empty around PF Changs, except for the first row of 30 cars closest to the store. The parking lot will be completely full by 9:30 am, and remain so until shortly before Trader Joe's closes at 7pm, as hundreds of thousands of white collar workers in the county working from home nowadays. Number of customers in store limited to 24 at any one time, even though the store could hold 150 easily, before the pandemic. That's 2 customers per 1000 square feet, and this Trader Joe's, at 12,000 square feet, is double the size of a standard Trader Joe's. The 24 mark is reached at 8:10 am, with no additional customers getting in until another customer comes out. People leave their outside shopping bags in front of the entrance, to pick up afterwards, as no outside shopping bags allowed. The store provides paper bags with handles, normally 10 cents each, for free. I get in the entrance with my day pack zipped up and firmly on my back, at 8:27 am, after waiting 26 minutes in line, using the anti bacterial hand sanitizer bottle at the entrance. Each customer gets a shopping cart with the handles wiped down. You know you're getting old when you are in the 65+ line, and they don't bother to check your age on your driver license! Go past the produce section. Large navel oranges 69 cents apiece, 3 pound bag of medium-small size Cara Cara oranges for $3.49, 4 lb bag of organic navel medium-small oranges for $4.99, and blueberries $6.99 for 18 ounces. Produce prices generally more expensive here than at Sprouts, when getting comparable sized items, the exceptions being bananas 19 cents each or 44 cents a pound here, and 59 cents a pound at Sprouts, and iceberg lettuce $1.29 a head here, and $1.99 or $2.99 a head at Sprouts. Demand is so great that Sprouts has discontinued its weekly flyers. Wife going to Lucky tomorrow for Tuesday/Thursday 6am-9am senior hours for raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries on sale for 3 for $5 or $1.67 for a 6 ounce container, compared to raspberries $3.49 for 6 ounces at Trader Joe's. Completely skip the meat/seafood section. Wild sockeye salmon $11.99 per pound. Filet mignon $18.99 per pound. Didn't see the rosemary lemon chicken that Yelp Nancy C likes. Lucky has $6.99 per pound Atlantic salmon. $3.69 for a gallon of Trader Joe's brand milk, compared to $5.49 at Sprouts. 26 ounce jar of Trader Joe's brand marinara sauce for $1.79. Dozen large eggs for $2.49. You can't beat these prices, unless you drive to Costco 5 miles away, where there is a 1 hour wait just to walk in the entrance. Frozen section pick up the 12.5 ounce butter chicken w/basmati rice for $3.99, the 8.5 ounce chicken tikka masala for $3.69, the 23 ounce Kung Pao chicken for $4.99, the 22 ounce mandarin chicken for $4.99, and the 16 ounce pork gyoza for $2.99. Finally stop by the toilet tissue section, with limit 4 of single rolls at 69 cents each. Limit 1 of the 12 roll, 250 sheets per roll, double ply toilet paper package, priced at $4.99. Plenty of selection at 8:30am, but my guess is that this section will be completely sold out by noon. Get to the counter to pay for my goods, and who's there, but my fellow tennis friend Marcos B. Not the first time I met a tennis player manning the TJ cashier. Had another employee take a picture of the two of us, not 6 feet apart, but with both with masks, and him also wearing plastic gloves. Can't play tennis as all the City park courts have been closed during the 22 days of shelter-in-place. Some things I never buy at Trader Joe's include canned cat food. Bought some once, took it to my cats who turned their noses up, left it out for the possum, who also turned it's nose up. Only time the possum refused food! Get out of there at 8:46am, and now the nonseniors are waiting in line, expecting to get in at the 9am regular hour. Spent 26 minutes waiting in line, and 19 minutes inside the store! 12 minute walk back home. read more

This is a Trader Joe's I've been to once in about a decade. I didn't know there was an optometrist next door in this complex. My Trader Joe's shopping list is pretty simple: maybe some sausages, chips made from vegetables and fruits you wouldn't think of at first, and some sparkling waters. Trader Joe's is great, and this location is no exception. The prices are affordable (love that produce !), and they have really unique foods. The employees here are friendly and helpful (when I couldn't find a sugar kiss melon, someone helped me check the stock and confirmed that they weren't being sold anymore--thereby saving me additional pointless trips to other location). The only thing is that sometimes I am unable to find "typical" grocery items that are sold at Safeways or Luckys. read more

Legit Trader Joe's. The carts are very clean, and everything is organized quite well. This location seems to put a lot of value in making sure items are in stock, as I've seen employees restocking products/produce/meat during each visit. Like all TJ's, you'll find a lot of awesome seasonal foods/items here. I am still and will always be a loyal fan of their tortilla chips and traditional hummus. Organic bananas and envy apples are must-purchases if you need to stock up on some fruits with those good micro-nutrients. Chicken drumsticks and thinly cut beef are also great, packing great protein at a reasonable price. For dessert: the mochi ice creams and the mini ice cream cones are great if you are looking to enjoy something sweet but at a reasonable portion. Oh, and don't forget the ginger beer! read more

It's a smaller TJs located close to downtown Sunnyvale. The parking is a bit tight and the store on the smaller end. The quality of the ingredients are pretty fresh. I love their mix of cornbread, and other dry good items. The cashiers are really a s helpful so great customer service. Everything is super clean, stocked, and tidy. So while this is not my go to Trader Joe's simply because of the oftentimes crowded parking lot, it is still worth visiting when early enough on a weekend morning before the complex crowds get to be too much. Across all trader joe locations I'm a big fan of their flowers and plant offerings. I've bought baby monstera plants in cute pots for a few bucks. I love their planters too. Today though I left the store with 8 stem tulips for 3.99. It's a fun place to hit for their seasonal changes. Being fall everything is maple and pumpkin spiced. I snagged some maple butter on this trip which I'm excited to check out. Also they had English muffin bread which I'm also curious to try. Overall they have some totally unique things which are not offered at other stores. Never had poor encounters service wise with the staff (which is mentioned in a handful of reviews) but the handful of times neither was I greeted friendly either. Neutral encounters which is fine... nothing overtly rude. TLDR ; it's a solid company and worth a visit, but parking lot and service can be hit or miss. read more

I'm too spoiled with Trader Joe's merchandise. I know exactly what to buy and where to find it. But this Trader Joe's in Sunnyvale is bigger than the one I usually shop. I was here on a Friday afternoon. I had no clue how busy they are compared to other grocery stores. The staff was hustling to put things on the shelves. OMG. Some even collided with customers and other coworkers. I considered them rude, even with apologies. I always bring a shopping bag with me to Trader Joe's. Although it didn't fill up with stuff like I usually do. Since I am not from here, I consider everything is so expensive. Something I really want to buy, but I don't want to deal with hassle at the airport. This store is very convenient to major thoroughfares. It's on the triangle of El Camino Real, Sunnyvale Saratoga Road and S Mathilda Avenue. I didn't have trouble finding it, except I went to its original location, behind old OSH. This store is on the land where Olsen's Fruit Stand used to be. I can always relate an image of freshness to the best with Trader Joe's and the history of this side of Sunnyvale. read more

As someone who has been to multiple Trader Joe's locations from Southern California all the way up the coast to Seattle, I can say this is the location with the worst employees ever. This red hair guy (James L) at the cash register is the rudest employee I have come in contact with and I know Trader Joe's trains employees to be engaging. He did not say one single word during the whole transaction - not even hi or bye or thanks and did not even look at us. He treated the customers in front of us the exact same way too. Not sure if he is racist or just rude to everyone. Very disappointing and I will not return to this location. The traffic in the parking lot is a mess anyways. read more
