I was there this evening around 7:30pm and I was going to order some hot food behind the counter. I was informed that the individual was on lunch by two separate individuals from the customer service area on two separate occasions while I waited. About 20 minutes passed by and the individual came back to the counter area and helped a family that had come in a while after me, no worries, granted I didn't state that I had been waiting but I let them go ahead. As I approached the counter, the worker mentioned that the Chinese section was closed as it was no longer good and has been considered not sellable and/or had gone bad. I am baffled as I had been waiting and had a ADA senior waiting in the car. I am surprised at the negligence of the customer service provided this evening. I do not believe I will be returning to this location. I advise people to save their time and go somewhere else. How unfortunate it is, to waste peoples time. I am usually a very kind and patient person with manors but tonight shocked me. Customer service, please be informed on practices around your store to avoid any further inconveniences. To update, the situation got worse. I didn't hear anything for several hours so I had to call back. When I asked to speak with the manager about my order, the young kid on the phone says "That lady is on the phone and I think she wants to know about her refund." The manager refused to get on the phone and told the employee to tell me she'd get to my refund by end of business day that she would refund for all the produce and the missing meat they found. She did not process my refund. I had to contact Safeway customer service and then had to wait an entire week to get it. $71! read more

Signed up for my Moderna vaccine booster back in early December for today (1/29). Got promptly told by the pharmacy techs when I arrived early for my appointment that they don't do Moderna anymore, and haven't had it in weeks. This was followed by a shrug and a "good luck". I am not a fan of this store. There isn't really anything good to say about it. They have a US Bank and a Starbucks inside, and even those aren't assets to the store. The US Bank has uninformed employees who don't even know their own employer's basic policies. The Starbucks isn't an "official" Starbucks and therefore you can't use coupons or deals sent to you from Starbucks. The employees inside this Safeway are grumpy, hostile, rude, anti-social and just terrible. I've had some who don't event talk to me as I'm checking out, or tell me the total. They just stand there scanning items and stare at me once they are done while waiting for payment. I've seen a manager who looks like he was a current meth user, with the sunken eyes, scratched up skin, and missing some teeth, just wearing a dress shirt. The store is beyond filthy and disgusting. I am never impressed by the state of this store. The floors are sticky, which tells me they don't mop nearly often enough. The bathroom smells horrible. We all know what ends up in a bathroom, and it smells like that has seeped into the walls and floor to fester for the last 20 years and no amount of mopping or bleach can get rid of the smell. The place where you return soda cans and beer bottles is just nauseating and rancid smelling. I can't return cans here because I constantly end up throwing up and sick just based on the smell. There are always homeless people milling around the bottle return, as well as smoking cigarettes right outside the doors. It can be very difficult to even get from the parking lot into the store. I smoke, and I still hate walking through a haze cloud of secondhand smoke. When it is breezy outside, the haze travels inside the store. This is a Safeway that I really try to avoid. There are a million other better and cleaner stores nearby. I can drive half a mile down the street to Freddie's and pay about the same for products and enjoy a clean store with happy employees. read more

Fourth place I stopped at to get a cake for a birthday. I got here late and there were no cakes out and no one in the bakery. If you use their delivery or pickup service, expect to have all kinds of substitutions for things you didn't order. Ordered sharp cheddar? You might get medium or mild. Ordered frozen blackberries? You might get mixed berries. Ordered blue Gatorade? You might get orange or yellow. Ordered fish sticks? You might get fish fillets. Oh, what's that now? You ordered sharp cheddar because you don't like mild? Your kids don't eat fish fillets, only fish sticks? Didn't want any raspberries or strawberries in the blackberry cobbler you were going to make? Too bad. It's one thing to have a 2lb. block of sharp cheddar subbed out for two 1lb. blocks, or an 8-pack of blue Gatorade subbed out for a couple 32oz. bottles... but at Safeway, if they don't have what you ordered, they'll just sell you a completely different product that you didn't actually want. You can give instructions for what to do when an item is out of stock. "Don't substitute for an entirely different product" isn't one of those options. According to their VIP Customer Service, the only way to prevent this happening is to go through each item in your order, line-by-line, and imagine what kinds of substitutions they might make... and then leave instructions for what substitutions you're okay with, and what you're not. By the time you're done dealing with it, it would have been less hassle to just grab a mask, get in your car, and go push a cart around their store. And if you're going to do that, you'd be MUCH better off not doing that at all, and going to WinCo instead. read more

I have reviewed Safeway on Pioneer Parkway before, not in a favorable way. I keep giving that store another chance but I'm done. We get chicken strips from the hot deli about once a month. About every third time, the chicken is almost inedible. Tonight was one of those times. The chicken strips had obviously been sitting for quite some time, as they were overcooked and dried out to the point that the chicken itself had practically disappeared inside the tough, hard coating. It was almost inedible, unless you like half soggy, hard coating with dried out chicken inside. The most aggravating thing is that this chicken ends up costing between $12-$14. It isn't cheap. To be fair, we have gotten really good strips on occasion, but when they're bad, they're terrible. They might consider training people on how to properly deep fry their chicken, and then have a maximum amount of time they can hold the chicken before removing it from the hot case. I think that we will just go to KFC from now on... we always get good, fresh food there. Safeway is a lot closer, but I will gladly drive further and pay more just to get food that is actually edible. Safeway doesn't seem to want to get emails in their complaint department...I couldn't find a place anywhere to send one. I can't even excuse this due to Covid. Their hot food is wildly inconsistent, and has been for some time now. Silly me, I keep thinking they will improve their cooking methods, but it just never happens, so we'll be visiting the Colonel from now on when we want chicken that wasn't cooked yesterday. read more

Three different occasions, three different items - threw all three away. Cooked shrimp directly from the butcher, obviously thawed and refrozen. Another time, fresh fruit cut up and in a bowl. Fruit was tasteless or had gone bad. Third item was barbecue ribs from the deli. The meat was dried out and hard. Must have sat under a heat lamp for a very long time! I used a third party to place a prescription order online due to an URGENT infection. I was unable to stay away from the bathroom for more than a few minutes at a time and the pharmacy did absolutely nothing to help me figure out any details with my prescription. I had to call and go through their automated bs 7 times and still never reached a real person or got ANY form of help. All I needed to know was an ESTIMATE on what time to pick up my prescription so that I could do so without having to deal with urgent bathroom issues if I needed to wait. Needless to say I will never get a prescription filled at this location again. read more

I've live near this Safeway for many years, and every time I've had a problem. First, there is NO Wi-Fi. Even with a Starbucks and a US Bank, there is no public Wi-Fi, which is very discouraging when trying to use their app. Second, only one nice lady works behind the Customer Service counter. I've gone up there before when I was paying too much for a deal, and the woman totaled up the item, and told me I owed HER money. They can be very rude, and I hate dealing with them. Third, their Chinese is not that great. The rice is always stale, and the chicken is old and tough. Lastly, they almost always have a glitch with item pricing. Never leave without double checking your receipt. You may have missed the deal you thought you got! I avoid the store like the plague. I just had the worst grocery shopping experience of my life. It was at Safeway Parkway location in Springfield . I made the mistake of going to Ed at checkout. I brought a barcode up to the counter with some Cool Whip I was purchasing because I couldn't get the app to work to load the just4u price. The clerk was Furious he immediately left his station and me standing in the lurch. I didn't know what was going on so when he got back several minutes later I asked him if there was a problem. He exploded and yelled at me for removing the barcode from the Shelf I told him I didn't know what else to do and there was other barcodes there on the shelf. That just infuriated him more. He slammed my grocery product in the bags and continue to throw insults at me. I was so upset I was shaking. I told him I would never shop at this store again and I couldn't believe he was a manager. Has to be the slowest cashiers I have ever seen . They also seem to only like 2 or 3 cashiers at a time so you end up waiting forever just to check out ! Also check your receipt close I was charged full price on a sale item ( I double checked) but since I promised myself this would be the last time I would walk into Safeway I'm not returning to get my correct change. Terrible slow service. There's ALWAYS a line when I shop here. The checkers are nice, but there are never enough of them even during peak hours. I dread going here and will go out of my way to shop at the Safeway on Coburg Rd. The employees are gloomy overall, the ones who work in the bottle return area are consistently slow, incompetent, and are always making people wait. The layout of the store is confusing, the aisles in the center are super short for no reason, it is hard to find certain items. The bottle return area gets flooded. The deli people are crabby, act annoyed when taking orders. They realy need to employ more people who are happy to have a job and enough checkers so there are not customers waiting in line. read more

RUDE RUDE RUDE! Takes 20 minutes to get deli meat because the same person is working both the junk food counter and the deli, and if they're at the junk food counter they take care of everyone over there even though I've been waiting at the deli for 10+ minutes, I don't go to their deli anymore. The meat counter guy was very rude when I asked if they sold beef ribs, he made a sigh of disgust when he came out to 'look' and see if we had any, he didn't know even though he's in charge of the meat section, well they didn't have any. Even if you just have 5 bags of food some of the checkers have asked over 7 times if I need help out, I may be a lady but I'm in my early 20s, and very strong; they're close so I end up shopping there a lot so you'd think they'd remember me and that I don't need help, the cashiers treat me like a cripple! And the worst yet, I was just going up the chip aisle when a stocking boy came charge towards me (I know he saw me) and parked right in the middle of the aisle blocking my path to stock the chips, when I said excused me he pretended he was deaf. I had to go back the way I came, and go all the way around to the other side of him to grab the pretzels I wanted to buy. The pharmacy though is nice, they're like a separate entity that hasn't treated me like garbage, unfortunately I have no prescriptions so I don't need to go to the pharmacy! read more
