Driver arrived 40 minutes early, and I was not yet ready for the delivery. I accepted it of course. After unpacking and putting it away we realized the spinach was moldy and the half and half was expired and chunky. I went to the local Safeway on 41st ave on Monday And spoke with the front end manager who told me this is not her problem, all delivery orders go out of a different location. I asked for any contact info or what I should do, she repeated this was not her problem. We specifically stopped shopping in that store because the customer service is SO bad. Sorry to complain, but no one at Safeway seems to care. We will most likely order again as I am a very busy single mom and don't have very many choices in our small town. Please pay closer attention on delivery orders, we don't want the old nasty stuff that we wouldn't choose if we were in the store. Thank you. read more

I go to this safeway pretty regularly for cheaper prices on canned goods, frozen foods, etc... and it has a huge selection of everything! It's a clean store, and I can usually find exactly what I'm looking for... and even though I buy my produce at the farmers market (or shoppers...shhh) I must say... MATTIE B. ROCKS THAT PRODUCE SECTION LIKE NOBODY'S BIZNATCH! woo hoo! give that guy a raise! read more

Is ZERO an option???? Just had to walk out because they have two checkers and lines of people trying to check out! Talk about terrible customer service! No wonder brick and mortar grocery chains are going bankrupt. About ten employees were milling about doing other stuff. Hello managers, take a look at your lines and pay attention to what's important. read more

The parking lot is horrendous. It is just a trying journey to just go and pick up a dozen eggs. The store is nice. I really like how it looks with the floors in the produce section but that is all. I once got a prescription filled here and it was an agonizing ordeal! Safeway has some real real good deals. However, their checkout lines are consistently terrible to contend with. The staff there is friendly. Without a doubt, I prefer Trader Joe's and Savemart over Safeway. I just go to Safeway if it is convenient enough for me to do so. read more

As far as Safeway supermarkets go, this one leaves customers a bit empty-handed. My girlfriend and I were met with empty shelves and withered produce at a so-so price. Customer service isn't the best; the cashiers seem a bit on edge. All in all, this Safeway is mediocre, but not the worst. read more

This is a great Safeway! Have energy when you go there b/c it's big. In fact, it's the biggest Safeway in this section of the Central Coast. The bakery is the best and well priced! read more

Large well kept Safeway. Big selection and very clean, but a decent portion of the employees need a lesson in customer service. One employee even insulted my decision to buy expensive items there, another time the same employee remarked in a loud voice that the watch I was wearing cost $600. Sorry if you have something against the middle class, but dude, you work where we shop. Interestingly enough, the Jamba Juice employees are always really nice. read more

Since the remodel of the old store this is the place to buy groceries in the county. The store is huge and has everything at the least expensive prices you will find. Jamba and Starbucks inside along with a dining area and redbox. Since they did an interior reformat I can't find things as easily as I used to. But at these prices I can't complain. The take over by Albertsons hasn't had any serious affect that I've noticed. This is my go-to grocery store and my favorite of all the Safeways around. read more

Don't buy meat from here... They sell expired meat. I overheard someone in the meat department say to his coworker that this meat is expired, and he responded with "put a new sticker over it." I actually checked their meats, and I can see most have an expired sticker underneath a new sticker. Wtf?!? Is that even legal? I never came here again, except to buy non meat items when New Leaf market is closed. But overall the store has very good prices. With the Safeway card u save close to 30% in some cases. Just be careful about buying meat from here. read more

I would have to agree with the other customer who gave the Aptos Safeway one star and said it was too many. I just shopped at the Safeway on 41st and was treated so well that I took the name of the employee to write to the manager. I forgot something so went to the Aptos Safeway. The clerk, Sharon L. was so sour and rude. When I remarked on the way she treated the customer in front of me, she was snotty and sarcastic. She kept talking about company policy....when I finally mentioned that company policy requires good customer relations and a SMILE, she sarcastically said to me, "I'm sorry, it is a little hard to smile when you've been attacked ." I have never experienced such blatant rudeness from a checker before. Usually the Safeway employees have gone out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. I have a choice about where I will spend my money and with treatment like this, I won't be spending much at Safeway in the future. read more

I was glad when this area was cleaned up, the Kmart closed and the Safeway remodeled. Now I don't feel safe shopping at this Safeway (nor pretty much any Safeway in Santa Cruz County), or any of the stores in this lot, due to constantly being asked for change in the parking lot, seeing bags of garbage and needles by the cart returns and lots of people allowed to camp out (I even caught one urinating in the bushes). Since the garbage and needles were by the cart return, I asked for a Manager at Safeway. Basically the bags got kicked into the bushes at that point and I was told they'll call the property management company, which I am doing myself as well as the Safeway Crop office. Tired of the trash coming to Santa Cruz and the surrounding areas. I guess I'll be going to Nob Hill and Traders Joes exclusively. read more

The Jamba Juice in this Safeway is cool because it offers the club card deal when you buy your Jamba Juice. They have a club card deal that when you buy 7 you get the 8th free. That is not to bad of a deal if you like to buy Jamba Juice. read more

Love it! Big, New and clean. I drive to this location which is about 5 miles away in a neighboring city rather than go to the Safeway right up the street from me. This one is just that good and the one near me is just that crappy. read more

It's pretty clean and I am able to find most of the exotic stuff that I need for my cooking experiments. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about the parking. I mean seriously, park and walk. It's probably healthier for you to move your tush around. We are getting very lazy here in the states. I mean I've lived in several countries in Europe and Asia, and in America, we are all too dang lazy...always complaining if we need to walk farther than the front door. In addition, this Safeway, they have lots of working push carts. The staff has been helpful and they are friendly. read more

This is my favorite Safeway. It is one of the bigger Safeway's I've been to. They have a lot of everything. Cashiers are great. They have a Starbucks and a Jamba Juice inside. Great sitting area. read more

Super friendly staff. The store looks new and clean, plenty of parking. Everything you need deli, bakery, coffee and seasonal items. Produce is fresh. I went here about 2pm on a weekday and it was rather empty, so I had good shopping. read more

I love this Safeway, it seriously has such a good selection, is always clean, and the staff is super friendly. We literally live like 3 minutes from the Safeway on Morrisey and still make the trip to 41st. They have great Gluten Free selection and have a guy there who always gives the best wine advice. read more

Better than most but still its Safeway. A plus is it's 24 hrs and clean. Parking in the shopping center is difficult at best esp before a holiday. read more

XI've got to say that although we love now living in the Seabright neighborhood, we absolutely miss being close to this Safeway. While some of the people working her are a bit inept (we've all had the job in High School that we really dint care for) overall everyone is really nice and helpful. The pharmacy staff is reason alone to come here. They all remeber us by name, are friendly, fast and pretty much put any Walgreen's we have ever been to, to shame. The butchers are always quick with suggestions and quick to offer help with things where you have to ask (without annoyance) for, ie cleaning the cooked crabs. They lose 1 star for consistently NOT having the bags available in the produce section. All customer complain as we hunt for bags. We will continue to drive the additional distance to shop here. read more

I always love going to this Safeway, not only because it's convenient but because everyone here has always been nice and helpful. They always seem to have great deals! I love their hot sandwiches, and the fact that they have a Starbucks and Jamba Juice right there inside! read more

Safeway Meat Department, You Have Done it AGAIN!!!! Idk why I bother going anywhere else. You guys are always fully stocked with great prices. You really value the customer and product you sell... unlike some places... ( just wrote a NH review where the fish was falling apart in the package, safeway would never sell something like this!!) 3.05$ for two beautiful pieces of tilapia. YAY! I hardy ever go to this location its too big and crowded, but if I dont feel like driving to Aptos Ill be back. Plus going at 8 on a friday helped, it wasnt super packed. read more

Another huge supermarket now stands where one of my "regular" super markets used to be. What more can I say? I am glad Morrisey has not yet been devoured. Call me old fashioned, I dislike the huge stores and just do not shop there anymore... read more

Had a really kind interaction with Ashley at the self checkout today. Spent almost $200.00 there because the lines were very long, and she popped over and gently took over and helped us out in our coupons and checked all our discounts for us without making us feel old and stupid. Don't get me wrong, I really don't like shopping at Safeway, but she totally took care of us and I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks Ashley. You put the "customer" in customer service. read more

I keep trying to shop there! It's awful. It's dirty, there were 4 checkers today with 1 of them being 15 items or less. The poor checker looked exhausted! And my biggest, loudest thing that really annoys me is no baggers...I spent $260.00 and the checker was doing all the work! I know it's small, but it matters, and no one to take them to the car. As I said, I know it's small, but it matters. Hope the men in the grey suits read this. It's Nob Hill in capitola for me. "Don't have any expectations when shopping there". There are so many better grocery stores. read more

Very disorganized. Pros: many check stands, large selection, Jamba Juice inside, Cons: not many open check stands, illogical aisle organization, so large that the disorganization is a strain on the feet, parking is always intense. Also the Jamba Juice inside is very understaffed. read more

I hate safeway. Do they have envlopes? Nope. How about motor oil? Nope. Window washer fluid? Nope. I am constantly not finding what I need there, its really annoying. On the plus side, the checkers are fairly nice, and occasionally ring up a 22 ounce beer as a 12 ounce single. read more

Everyone working here hates their job and it's apparent in the utter contempt they hold for their customers. I come here only when I absolutely must, and even then I know to prepare for the worst. You must be forgetting that we pay your salaries when you scowl at us, ignore us, or roll your eyes at the most basic of questions...whether at the customer service stand, bakery or anywhere else in the building. Management: step it up. There is zero need for this level of awful service. read more

This store is way too crowded with too many people and too much stuff. The parking lot is also a major safety hazard and the clientele very inconsiderate. I would have given only 1 star, but a nice young man did help me today to find what I needed. Unfortunately, I will probably have to shop here again because it is convenient. But I'm sure I won't be happy about it. read more

Always shop here, but poor management is turning me away. A manager named Karen was yelling at a courtesy clerk sayin "Why haven't you cleaned up the spill yet your ridiculous and nuscence"! The courtesy responded with I was on aisle 8 cleaning another spill. She's responds with next time you'll be fired! The courtesy clerk asks how he would get fired for cleaning up another spill and that he was getting to the one she called for and she responds with don't question me or I'll write you up! This was yesterday 9/2! She also has no clue what she's talking about and had to ask a checker what aisle drinks were on! RIDICULOUS as a manager! I will no longer shop here due to a very rude Manager! read more

I was going to leave an okay review, the staff members are awesome, then I realized gigantic retailers are a bummer -- especially when they create hours for employees in such a way as they don't have to pay overtime when they decide at the last minute they need more help -- and this happens at this store. I saw it with my own eyes. I felt so bad for the staff member. I was shocked to learn that this was standard practice at such big stores. Seems wrong. read more

why is it that santa cruz can keep their safeways clean and the lines short and sf safeways can't?

I'm reluctant to give Aptos Safeway even one star but the rating system doesn't allow for less. This Safeway has gone down the tubes. Been going here for over 15 years at least twice a week. For the past several weeks (maybe longer) the check out lines have been up to 15 people deep. Yes, 15! And there are employees walking around they just don't open more checkout stands. I think the employees are trying to send a message to management about hours, workload or something and it ain't working. Now I know to go to 41st Avenue (no long lines even at the same time of day) and their produce displays are much cleaner and well stocked. I think once 41st Ave Safeway took hold the Aptos store decided to back off service and quality because management seems to be focused elsewhere. Maybe we can can a Savemart in Aptos when they close Aptos Safeway. read more

That's unacceptable! 4 to 6 weeks to hear a response back from Safeway is being irresponsible. It is very obvious what is going on here, delay, delay and more delay...I hope they go away! MY WIFE WAS INJURED IN YOUR STORE! IT WAS POOR MANAGEMENT WHICH CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT ALLOWED HER TO BE INJURED IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!. Is this the way you treat your customers? Do you want us to shop elsewhere? Do you not care if the "customers" go away? We bought two items on 7/10/12 for $12.94 and now we have medical bills reaching $1,500.00. How heartless can you be? Now, you won't even talk to us and let us know what is happening with our claim! Barbara Olivera from risk management told us on 7/17/2012 that within two weeks we would hear from their investigator on this matter. That's 35 days! Did the investigator go on vacation or were we lied to? Maybe he slipped in one of your stores, hit his head and is in a coma. Exactly what could have happened to my wife, and if it had, would we still be ignored? Are you going to continue to walk on the customers? I think everyone should know how you treated us. read more

The old lady at Jamba Juice was pissed that one of our drinks was free. She said "whoop dee doo". Then the old lady making my sandwich only gave me half a slice of cheese. HALF A SLICE! I pay extra for that cheese. Stop holding out Safeway. I'd give you half a star if I could. read more

The cashiers are always friendly, however some of the baggers need to work on their customer service skills. A few of them in particular are down right rude and very unhappy looking. read more

I have shopped at this specific location for 6 years now and lately they've been getting worse and worse. The last straw was an interaction I had with costumer service. I had purchased a bottle of cooking oil and didn't notice I had the wrong kind of oil so while in the store I just walked over to the customer service counter. The woman there was so dismissive and condescending and rude. She asked to know what my name was because apparently it's not on my safeway card I told her it was my husband's and she said well this not a family savings card it's your husband's card and you need to get a new one for yourself. This had never been an issue with safeway before. I mean we don't even have the same a dress and phone number anymore what we got to update our info now too! I mean I'm just grocery shopping not asking for federal benefits. So after going back and forth I said fine you don't want to do the exchange don't and she finally did do it. I will never go to safeway again I'd rather drive to the other side of town to Costco and trader joes than buy from you people ever again!!!!! read more

Had a coupon from GoodRX.com for a discount on medication for my dog. The medication is a prescription used for humans also. Vet sent prescription to Safeway Pharmacy. When I got there they said the coupon is not valid for Pets. They wanted $100 more because it was for a dog. So I went to Target and they honored the coupon. I won't be getting ANY prescriptions at Safeway anymore. read more

This is with regards to the in-store Jamba Juice. The taste of the drinks, not so bad. The service, HORRIBLE! These two goons sit there knocking around with each other, cleaning counter tops for 15 minutes with a line of 10 people waiting to order. They take their sweet time to dink around and then finally ask if you are ready to order. How many times has this happened? Three. Same two dudes. Get rid of these clowns so people can get their Banana Berry with an immunity boost a little quicker! read more

This is the best Safeway in our area, in my opinion, for the variety and availability of products, cleanliness, and store design (wide aisles, good lighting, well organized, well maintained.) We come here for a one-stop-shopping experience. We can pick up great flowers/plants, good produce, a wide variety of wines and beers at good prices, some good meats and fish (sometimes local!), pick up some good organic, gourmet, and ethnic ingredients, snag some excellent sales (especially if you go through the "Just For U" coupon center - kind of a pain, but I understand their intent), and get credit for gas. We use this Safeway as our primary pharmacy and like that you can buy a Starbucks latte to drink while you shop. Why oh why, Is customer service so difficult at this Safeway? It's infuriating! The most consistent area of great customer service and well-stocked items is in the wines/spirits area. A gentleman is always there to help find items or advise on selection. The guys in the meat department, like the liquor guy, actually ask if they can help and seem happy to please. Checkers and baggers, however, are so inconsistent and often completely lacking in any common courtesy or customer service. Very frustrating! I came in alone recently on a Saturday morning (always a bad idea) to stock up for a party and somehow had more than a cart-full of stuff after going through the checkout and bagging process. The bagger (an unhappy woman probably in her mid-30s) precariously piled bags and flowers on top of the cart and handed me the 6-bottle carrier of wine to hold while I struggeld to push the thing. She mumbled that she thought I needed an extra cart, but I asked whether I could just have someone help me out with this one and she replied, after a disapproving look and a big exhale, that they were really busy and she didn't think they had anyone available. After spending several hundred dollars, that seemed ridiculous to me. I tried to guide the cart toward the exit (I completely believe the person who wrote a review about how the cart wheels lock after 10 minutes!) with my one hand, struggling to go around people as I make my way out the store. I finally got out to the curb, but could no longer maneuver the cart so made a trip to the car with as much as I could carry, then came back for the cart and pushed it to my car in the parking lot. The checker was so wrapped up in her conversations with other workers that it took her for-e-ver to check me out. In the meantime, the four open checkstands were 7 -8 people or more deep! There have been times that there are no baggers around and I, or my daughter and I, have bagged our groceries with NO help from the checker just to get out of there. I just don't get it. Nob Hill, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Deluxe Market all seem to have people who are friendly, kind, courteous, and they all appear to have been trained in customer service. Is Safeway just a crappy employer where most employees hate working and none have any skill in dealing with the public who actually pay their salaries? Or, are they so short-staffed that the people there on the front lines are overworked and cranky? I work very hard to hold my tongue because I know it isn't easy dealing with the public, but I feel rubbed raw more often than not when leaving this place and then I resent the money spent. Yuck! read more
