I continue to like this Safeway because the store is well-organized and easy to shop in, and the food quality is consistently better than many other grocery stores nearby. The issues I mentioned before have noticeably improved, and overall the store now feels much better. Both staff and customers seem considerate of one another, which creates a calm and pleasant shopping environment. While there was one past incident that left a bad impression, I don't believe it represents this location as a whole. This has long been my go-to Safeway in the neighborhood, and this time I'm definitely giving it five stars. read more

The service in the bakery is horrible! the manager in the bakery personally took a picture of my reference photo of the cake I wanted for my birthday, making sure everything was correct and clear. However the day of the pick up I see the cake and it was a mess. It was nothing how I wanted it to be, the wrong color, spelled my name wrong, didn't even add any decorations. To top it off! the person working the counter the day of picking up the cake was heartless, maniac who could've cared less about my birthday who refused to help me at all. This was a terrible experience causing me to be very frustrated and upset, practically ruining my birthday. Never purchase a birthday cake from Safeway. I've been a loyal customer at this Safeway for years. The store is spacious, well-organized, and most of the staff are kind and professional. However, one cashier has repeatedly made me feel uncomfortable. I always bag my own groceries -- not because I want to avoid paying for bags, but because I genuinely want to help. I know how tiring it must be to scan, bag, and handle payments all day, so I try to make things a little easier for everyone, and sometimes even let the next customer go ahead when I have a large order. That's why it's disappointing when such small acts of courtesy are misunderstood. Kindness should never be mistaken for selfishness. I hope management can remind staff of that, because most of the employees here are truly wonderful. read more

I had the worst customer service experience today, Claudia, that handles the Customer Service desk was the most rudest person I've ever came across. I was trying to find out a question on my receipt. I Had my phone in my hand. She told me to put my phone away and give her my full attention. I was just holding my phone in my hand I wasn't talking on it, I wasn't texting on. It just had it in my hand, and this girl stared me down and she scolded me like I was two years old. I told her that I'm not on my phone. This is about the condition of snack bags of chips and so forth. I buy potato chips at Safeway and it is getting really bad. Smashed potato chips. Are they playing football with the bags of chips in the receiving department? Many times over half a bag is in smithereens! I understand there is going to be a certain amount of crumbs in a bag of whatever, but this is ridiculous! Nicest Safeway in town. While I don't shop here often and prefer higher end grocery which is honestly the same price these days anyway, this is the best one in town. Nice parking compared to Aptos, bigger, safer than Westside or midtown, and well stocked. They were also open on Christmas fairly late for last minute shopping this year which was great. read more

Came in on 7/14/25 at 4:45PM and saw the rockstar 6 pack that's on sale was empty. I proceeded to ask a clerk that was working in seasonal if there was a possible wing or side stack. Gigantic store that you can find almost anything! Has two single bathrooms so only two toilets for all those people! Just check your receipts because the Clearance prices don't always come out as they were posted. No problem at all getting refund of the difference. Just happened to be in this neck of the woods and dropped in to pick up some H20 for the road. Self checkout made this process exceptionally fast. No lines! If it had not been for roadtripping, I would have def stocked up on groceries. I just happened to peruse the circulars near the entrance and notice they had some really great deals. The 41st Ave Soquel Safeway has a pretty good selection of items, and easy parking. However, the pricing is very problematic. To get their "deals", you not only have to be a club member, but clip digital coupons in advance. But THEN, they still don't charge you correctly! Half your "deals" may be incorrectly charged. Meanwhile, many produce items are unmarked in price, especially organic items. And watch out for wildly uneven pricing. Some non-staple items are double what they are in nearby stores, large sizes can be twice the UNIT price of small sizes, etc. I only go there because it's way closer to me than other stores, but even so, it always leaves me feeling abused. read more

As per the health code there needs to be at least one functioning and sanitary baby changing station. Yes, both bathrooms have one. Are they safe? No. The part that opens where you place a baby is drooping so badly that a child would roll right off. I had stop shopping, take my twins back out to the car, change senior poopy pants and then come back inside the store to finish my grocery shopping. If new ones are ordered or they are about to get fixed a sign advising people of that would be amazing. I know this area has issues when it comes to vandalism and such. After my doctor's appointment that I had this morning I stopped by this Safeway since it was close by and used my employee discount, without it I probably would have to take out a loan just to pay for my produce lol. Low rating Mostly because of the very poor training of the pharmacy staff, and the severe limitations of their online ordering services, I generally avoid Safeways in general. This one is particularly bad, however. Pharmacy staff and operations are pathetic, except for vaccines, which they do quite competently. Attempting to do any kind of grocery online ordering, is bound to be a frustrating experience, mostly because their website is really pathetic. I'm referring to the order online and pick up at the store non-Instacart experience. the rest of the store is indifferently stocked and maintained, except, once again, one area shines: the quality and variety of produce. Much better than the local Snob Hills in the area. In other areas of the store, especially the refrigerated meats and cheeses aisle you find a very slim variety of brand names and products. I recall during one visit that the checker was becoming visibly angry that I wasn't bagging my own groceries, perhaps because I was trying to use my phone to make a payment at the point of sale terminal. This location is spacious, clean, organized, and well stocked every time I come here. Safeway is a great medium compared to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, New Leaf, and Staff of Life because of the cost for organic and/or all natural items (fruits and other perishables). Sometimes you can get a great deal on meats and shellfish. They have stepped up in the bakery department. I used to bake quite religiously but I have always steered clear of grocery cakes until one day on a whim, I bought their single slice (it was on sale) and I was hooked. If you look at their pastry case, the selections of cakes and its decorations will make you raise your eyebrows. I was in awe because of how much things have changed at Safeway. The chocolate cake, the brownie parfait, the chocolate mousse pie, the Boston cream pies, the red velvet cake, and etc. has won my sweet tooth. + Jamba Juice + Starbucks + soup bar + salad bar + cold sandwiches and salads section + hot deli bar + sushi bar You can get almond flour and the likes from the DIY section near the produce section. You can get just the amount you need w/o paying an arm and a leg like other grocery stores. Lines can be long depending on the time you go. I get in the line where I can scan and bag myself. I can only review the deli employee who helped me yesterday. He has only been there a couple of days or weeks, very new. He is the best thing that ever happened to that part of Safeway. He was helpful and was immediately there to help and offer ideas on things to try. Awesome customer service skills. I hope he stays. The previous time I was in the deli a month ago, there were five employees behind the counter One was making a lot of sandwiches, after About 15 min, I asked if someone could help me. The answer was, "the lady who is making sandwiches will help you". i then said there are four other employees that are not doing anything except cutting cheese of doing other stuff. When there are 5 customers in line, you would think they would help the customer. and, to top it off that employee was rude and really did not care if anyone asked to be helped. I just want to give a shout-out to the bakery department at the Capitola Safeway on 41st Ave. Many times I would get bagels there, but every once in a while I'd get a moldy taste from the sesame seed bagels. (Never had that with any of the others.) I guessed it was coming from the sesame seeds themselves, rather than the dough. So I wrote them and brought up the issue. They took action immediately: they wrote back and told me they dumped out the sesame seeds and refreshed their stock. Then the manager gave me a fresh batch of sesame seed bagels on the house. Yep... they were fresh-tasting and yummy! So I just wanted to say thanks for the great customer service. I also want to complement the bakery department: I love their French baguettes and sourdoughs. They make a pretty mean croissant and apple turnover too. And yep, the bagels are great: just the right balance of crunchiness and chewiness -- like a fine French bread but a little more "muscular". It's a neat trick to turn out a good bagel, and these guys know how to do it. Kudos! read more

My review is only on the floral department. I used this Safeway for my wedding. This is seriously the most affordable way you can decorate your wedding. A lady named, B is the main contact. She took down my order for the bouquets off the Debbi Lilly catalog. Said that I can mix my colors just not the flowers. For the center pieces, I brought in mason jars, we talked about what kind of flowers to put in there, she charged me for the flowers and held onto the jars till the day of the wedding. I received a ton of compliments from my 110 guests about how great the flowers looked. You don't need a ton of flowers, just enough to get the job done. Points, you have to be in person to make your order. The flowers are only what are in stock is what you are able to order. We had to go the week before to put the center piece order in. As for the bouquets, that was about 2 months before? Be open to their ideas, and it'll come out looking great. Trust B, she is super helpful at designing flowers. So happy that I did this. Rinky dink operation. Ordered a holiday meal for Christmas so wouldn't have to cook or have a ton of pots and pans for clean up. Was given an order number and specific date and time to pick up my meal. December 24, 11am I arrive and lo and behold they do not have my meal. But I am told they have a slab of raw meat I can go buy in the meat department to cook up myself. That's not why I ordered a full precooked holiday meal Safeway! Order included my name, phone, address, email. My order was placed two weeks prior and Safeway couldn't even be bothered to contact me that they were unable to handle such a complicated service and to allow me time to make different arrangements. read more

For some time now i've been going to the Safeway on 41st because of their selection, amount of parking, and ease of access to other shopping. After several attempts to communicate, I am going elsewhere because it just seems as if they don't care. A year ago they were imploring customers to use self checkouts with no limits to how many items could be brought through the line, however, recently this is changed to 15 items or less, with no rhyme or reason. I don't use standard Lanes, as they generally take longer, and I prefer to bag for myself, as well as being a disabled Veteran, who has issues in cramped spaces. I've made it a point to communicate this several times with prior managers on duty because I need to use it (they said use it), however, this never seems to be passed to other managers or staff. Today, Kirby was sitting on the Second to last self check out machine that should be clean and free of a staff members rear end, and when I asked him to do a price check on some chicken and macaroni and cheese, he instead of checking the price, told me I couldn't be in the self checkout and needed to go through the regular line. I firmly & politely said I was going to finish my shopping right here, and to speak with the manager (Alexis), who later walks over and reiterates the situation to me as if I'm unaware, and even he hesitates to check the price ($15.99 today vs $10.99 last week). As I'm scanning things, the machine says I need to be checked (as maybe not all of my items scanned), and Kirby is sitting there looking at the blinking light intentionally not helping. I ask another team member nearby to help me, who points to Kirby (as if he was the only one who could help me because it was his allotted section), so I out loud state "he doesn't want to help me"! Kirby scans his badge in a pouty way, so I mumble "wow what a lazy kid, and he badgers me about the rules not applying to me, and not that I've been annoyed for months on this matter... not to mention there's actual work to be done (trash everywhere and people to help or anything). The stations are unclean, yet I'm the issue for finally slipping my frustration out. I am reaching out on all platforms, as well as contacting Corporate and a few other organizations as I feel discriminated against. I have contemplated on leaving a review for a long time. This review is strictly based in dates. PLEASE....check the sell by dates. I have been in this store numerous times and have noticed expired dates. A few months back I picked up a gallon of milk with a sell buy date of 3 days prior to current date. I normally check all dates, maybe I was in a hurry. I go back to return it and the girl at customer service says, " that's just the sell buy...not an expiration". Ummm, wtf you drink it...I'd like a longer date. Next occurrence was at self check out with the shorter blonde lady....I had scanned a coupon that had expired...ok, no biggie...I explained to her as she was overriding my transaction that once again the milk that expired dates on it....and proceeded to school me on why it declined the coupon....umm, again it's no big deal but really expired milk.....so, today I go in to return another expired item... Annoyed that I had to make a special return trip for 3.49$. So, I walked around the store. A few items that I know from prior work experience to have expired dates and low and behold. The first 2 items I spin... Small jar of miracle whip and small jar of kraft sandwich spread. Expired.
