The first thing I noticed before entering the market, was the freezer compartment chock full of Marianne's Ice Cream! Unfortunately, we didn't have a cooler in our trunk to keep any frozen goods cold, so we had to forgo buying Marianne's. The market is bright, clean, and full of beautiful produce and other staples. Cashier was friendly.

This recent visit was disappointing enough that I feel it needs to be shared. Customer service was noticeably lacking. When we got to the front of the line and realized we forgot something, the woman at the register rolled her eyes and let out an audible sigh, even though no one else was in line. It felt unnecessarily rude. Throughout the store, employees were unhelpful and unapproachable. We tried to ask a question to a young tall man who clearly worked there, but he completely ignored us and just kept walking. Later, we asked a Hispanic man working in the back for help, and instead of answering, he gave us an annoyed look and walked away. It was uncomfortable and made us feel like we were a bother just for asking. To top it off, one of the two avocados we bought was completely rotten inside. The store itself didn't feel clean. Shelves had layers of dust, and we wandered around without a single person offering to help. Prices were shockingly high, especially considering the poor experience. Nob Hill is just down the road and offers better service, better prices, and a cleaner environment. I usually don't leave reviews unless something is exceptionally good or clearly disappointing. Unfortunately, this was the latter. I hope they get their act together, because this used to be a decent spot. But right now, I can't recommend it to anyone.

Why would I even go there now? I try one in a while, but this morning I stopped in one more time, just for bananas, and there were none! What produce store in California doesn't have bananas? Now I'm a produce nomad, wondering from Segona's, when I'm in redwood city, to the CSM farmers market to Piazza's. CSP Owners, please do better!

The prices have gone way up while selection has gone way down. These aren't growing pains during the transition- they don't seem to know how to run a market and it's ALWAYS HIT OR MISS now. Things we go there for specifically are usually NOT stocked anymore. The produce is tired. No one that works there seems to know what's going on, when new product will come in, etc. I won't be back again for any reason.

Made for a great stop.

They offer artichokes in several sizes (extra small, small, medium, large, and jumbo), along with cooking directions, recipes, and tips. But honestly, these are by far the best artichokes anywhere. The leaves have so much meat on them, it's incredible. I cannot stress enough how amazing they are. What else would you expect from the artichoke capital of the world, from a family that has been doing this for over 80 years? They also sell cheese, fresh produce, spices, oils, jams, honey, homemade loaves of bread, and so much more. It is definitely worth the stop. We usually leave with a huge haul and start counting down the days until our next visit, because nothing else compares. And don't miss the artichoke food truck on site. We had artichoke tacos and deep-fried artichokes with dill dip. Everything was fresh, delicious, and not greasy at all. Stop by and pay them a visit. There is something for everybody.

This Farm is one of the original (maybe *the* original??) farms that started growing Castroville's famous Italian Green Globe Artichokes. The Good: *Bigger than the usual farmstand, as this place is pretty epic with tons of great stuff from not just their own Farm, but other neighboring farms and other local producers. *As fresh as it gets, as most of the produce is grown from within feet to a few miles away. *Artichoke cupcake was delicious! Seriously. Try it. :) The Meh: *Parking lot is smallish but it's ample. *Service was, well, it got the job done and not much beyond that. The Ugly: *Prices are a little high, but I still always try and buy a few things to support them. Conclusion: Definitely worth a stop if your traipsing thru the Central Coast.

Fun attractions available are: 1) Casa de ChooChoo 2) Casa de Carousel 3) Gem Mining 4) Casa de Playground [a whole playground kiddy structure] We purchased tickets for the carousel and the train ride. The carousel seemed a little outdated and could use a little bit of maintenance. some of the seating rocked a bit- nothing unsafe but definitely had some unexpected movement. Casa de ChooChoo was by far our most favorite attraction. At $5 a ticket, this little train takes you all around the property. This was a good 12 minute ride so you aren't rushed to get the next load of riders on. The views aren't anything amazing but the seating is comfortable and you get a nice break from being on your feet. Popular purchasing staples include: fresh produce, dried fruits, spiced or candied nuts, & CDF's pomegranate wine. We walked away with some pink pineapple, assorted jerky, candy, & caramel apple. I'll have to come back and try their pomegranate wine again because of all the raving- I got a bottle a few years back as a gift but didn't enjoy it at all. Hopefully my palate has become more refined with time. LMAO! Shout out to Ric. Thank you for the delicious samples and even better convo!! You shine in a store full of staff, you are my favorite part of my very first visit to Casa De Fruta.
