I wouldn't even give this store a one- it is too good for them ,but the workers are okay. Someone should call the health department because of the dogs in the store and in the Carts !!!! Whole Foods and Sonoma Market prices, but Safeway produce nowhere near the quality of the former. The locally grown corn advertised this week looked like cattle feed. Vegies look old and tired and the produce buyer suffers from a lack of imagination. You can buy a wide variety of vegetables that are organic and FRESH at Whole Foods and Sonoma Market for about the same prices. Poor selection (except in wine) for such a large store. read more

Shopping at Safeway Sonoma over the last several months has been pure frustration. According to store employees, the management has cut positions and reduced hour, so that employees that normally stock shelves now must be at the check stands. It is evident that management is cutting employees in order to prop up a sagging bottom line. Time after time we are greeted with empty shelves, especially on popular items. This situation has forced us to shop elsewhere. Seems like they need a management change. read more

Where to start! Approximately half the checkers here are either apathetic or downright surly! The baggers manhandle your groceries (what do you mean you don't want your avocados and berries in the same bag as the cans?) and they pack your bags so heavy I have finally started insisting on packing my own. The meat dept. is mixed. Some of the people there are very helpful and some not so much. I asked for turkey parts yesterday and the guy told me that turkey is out of season and then followed that up with 'I'm just the seafood guy'. Really, that's your idea of customer service? And BTW, just about every other store has turkey (other than ground) ALL YEAR 'ROUND. Mentioned it to a store manager and got no response. Really people, do you hate your jobs that much? They are chronically out of certain dairy items and vegetables at 5pm which of course if ridiculous - when tdo you think working people are going to shop? I will start looking for another store - this one is just not cutting it. read more

I had outstanding customer service from Victoria in the deli at Sonoma Safeway. She saw me looking baffled when the roasted chicken case was empty (I think it was between lunch and dinner). She asked what I was looking for and explained that the chicken were almost ready. She saw my cart was empty and said if I came back when I was done shopping she would have it boxed for me. Sure enough, with my cart full, I found Victoria, with a smile, holding my fat (delicious) bird in a box, waiting just for me. read more

What a pleasant surprise to find such quality and attention to detail at the local Safeway! We ordered a pinwheel platter of various meats and filling and a small gourmet cheese tray for the adults attending my grandson's birthday party. Although the pinwheels were scrumptious and expertly made, the cheese tray stole the show! Four large blocks of delectable cheese, appointed with mounds of perfect grapes, strawberries, pecans, dried apricots and a jar of quince preserves made up our "small" cheese tray. Needless to say, we were delighted. Be sure to ask for Scott in the Deli department. He was pleasant and knowledgeable- and his selections were spot on! Thanks, Sonoma Safeway! I dont know where they found this diamond in the rough but he is quickly becoming a finely polished gem. Forgot to pack some essentials, so what better than good old Safeway to fill the need as opposed to the hotel gift shop. Stopped by their deli isle to grab some food for the dog too. Rice and meatloaf, which he loved. I was disappointed they didn't have a stitch of vegetables though, so I could make believe I'm feeding my dog healthily. When it was time to pay, I typed in my old phone number of their tracking system machine. Somehow I try to become a member, but it never gets processed. That's ok, they can track my old number all they want. I really don't want any special offer paperwork junk mail to arrive at my home anyway. read more

Horrendous management, grossly under staffed and out of stick on obvious items. Just stupid bad.

Despite their posted hours for Christmas Eve, we were met at the front door by two employees informing several of us we couldn't go in because the store was closing 20 minutes earlier than their posted time. The employees handled us rudely (one was named Tim) when we explained that we came based on their posted hours. The young woman tried to put it back on me, saying, "We all have families, ma'am." Me following a posted schedule has nothing to do with employees wishing they were home. I have a family, too. We needed last minute food. By the way, we then went across the street to Sonoma Market, where a very nice man met us at the front door and asked we be quick so employees could go home and be with their families. Guess what? Everyone in the story was running to get last minute items, rushing out of respect for the people who work there and their families. It's amazing what a difference customer service makes. I was craving sweets but after asking for help buy this tall guy I think his name is Clark. But, anyway he smelled horrendous and when you work with food you need to have good hygiene. So, I don't know why he came to work smelling so bad and I also watch him make bread and decorate some cakes with out washing his hands and he had just touched his face, garbage and what not. So, I recommend that no one buys their bread and cakes there anymore and I think he is the manager so even worse. I also can't believe Safeway has this disgusting person working here gross. read more

Safeway as a store is easily a four start business. Clean, customer service, and good selection. However, there sandwich department is unreal. By unreal I mean it's obvious they are a equal opportunity employer. They are extremely unprofessional and slow. High school kids who have no customer service or personality. You want to scream at them but you have a feeling it will get you no where. Go to sonoma market its well worth the $1.50 increase. read more

I keep saying I will stop going to Safeway here in Sonoma and NOW I will. Went there yesterday and wanted a lotto ticket but the clerk who hides in the backroom comes out and says she is from the Sacramento store - Ashleighl - and she could not work the machine, then could not open the register...........Not too good....anyway the produce is moldy - yes - moldy. Check the bottom of the berries and you'll see. The prices are so jacked up and the store is pretty dirty as well as the carts. then you get into the line and clerks over charge - yes - overcharge. There are two reasons, and two reasons only, to ever visit this Safeway...the wine and beer selection is extensive and reasonably priced, and the discounts provided by the Club Card are pretty good. Otherwise, STAY AWAY...that is, unless you like waiting in long line(s), only to encounter checkers who are usually indifferent at best and incompetent at worst. I bought a handful of items at 9:30 on a weekday morning with one checker and about a dozen shoppers in line. No one working in the 15 items-or-less row...and you can't use the self-check if you're buying alcohol. I made the mistake of buying brand name coffee beans from the self-serve display. The checker had no clue what the purchase code was...asked another checker manning the self-serve kiosks...she provided a code for Turkish apricots.(!) My checker then charged me for bulk coffee, then discovered the correct code for my brand, and charged me again (after rudely denying he'd done so). It's almost as if Safeway's given up on hiring people who give a hoot about customer service, as long as they can minimize their personnel costs. read more
