They were out of stock on one of the wine bottles we bought to get the six bottle discount. When we went to pick up our order they wouldn't let us replace it with another bottle. We opted yes to allowing substitutions. They didn't make one. We didn't get the discount. Management wasn't willing to help. We place large orders here regularly but we won't be anymore :/ read more

Just experienced a very rude Safeway employees' lack of service and bad attitude - by a sandwich maker named Angel. I had been waiting next in line for a few minutes to be served, as another employee was helping a person just ahead of me. I was waiting partiently - approximately 10 minutes to be served next. A young man approached the counter, looked at me in line, then looked the other way - down the delicatessan area-l, and asked a man that had just walked up to the counter if he needed anything. I immediately spoke up and mentioned to the gentleman that I had been waiting for a while to be served. The young man pointed at the customer he had just talked to and said to me "I'm helping him now". I immediately stated, I had been waiting for a while and that he should have first asked "Whom was next in line". The young man shook his head, closed hos eyes, and started laughing and continued to help the other person. Of course, as It so happened, Angel's supervisor was nearby and I immediately explained to him what had happened. He had an amused smirk on his face and said nothing. I ince again explained in detail what had just occurred and it seemed that he was not taking my complaint seriously either. I work hard all day, like everybody else, and expect at least some common courtesy when dealing with a situation like this. I am not happy at all with the service "Not provided today". In looking at the previous revoews on Yelp it seems that this Safeway has had many complaints that probably are not being resolved through corporate or by immediate remediation and training. I highly recommend that more training be given to those who do not respect customers nor have the presence of mind to read a situation and handle situations like this more professionally. I had a bad experience at this store with their wine vendor, Tiffany. Very racist and mean. She doesn't like minorities. She even talks about politics while having conversations with white customers. It was also very obvious as I stood there browsing and needed help with a few selections, as she only went out of her way to help people of her own color. Stay away from the deli at all cost, unless you wanna get food poisoning, then have at it feast away. Unless I'm hallucinating, but I'm sober so I don't think so, there appeared to be mold on the piece of chicken. Wanna see something disgusting, gross and scary? I went in on July 13th and found a ton of mold growing on the paper under the grids of the meat department meat coolers. I was so shocked that I almost had a panic attack. The amount of mold growing here wasn't a small amount which meant that the employees running the meat department were ignoring this for a very long time. You will get sick and you could have medical issues eating the meat at the store. I called the health department well I wrote to them and they said they went out. This is your local Sonoma Safeway guys think twice about shopping here and please help me out and call the health department on them so there's multiple complaints instead of just mine this place should be condemned and shut down. read more

The pharmacy at safeway sonoma is now a joke. I get the fact that with Rite Aid closing they are more busy. But they can't have at least one person on staff that knows what they're doing? I had surgery yesterday and my dr called in a new rx order that they wouldn't fill because they said I had to wait a few days for the insurance to kick in then hung up on me. I called back and asked to pay cash for it and they said ok it would be ready in 20 minutes. My spouse went down to pick it up an hour or more later and it wasn't ready. He waited another hour while they kept saying "15 more minutes". My spouse said there was no one else in line and that none of the employees seemed to know what they were doing. Not only that, he said the young dark haired girl working the register was very rude and Unfriendly. Ive been doing business with this pharmacy for several years but Im going to take my business to Adobe Drug so I can get decent service. read more

A few things recently have me going elsewhere. The store is just as expensive as any of the other stores in town so the perception that Safeway might be a little more mainstream and cheaper is not correct. During the day, the lines here are usually pretty bad so you can expect to wait about 10 minutes to pay. Even the self checkout gets backed up. The six pack carrier price for liquor is wonky. I always seem to have a problem with checking out since there are all these rules that apply to get the deal. They often run out of items and it can take weeks before they get restocked. One of my favorite items went from $14.35 to 18.99 within one week. Thats more than 25%. Rampant inflation when we're being told that inflation is under control. Im just going to shop elsewhere. Even Lucky is better than this place. read more

I used to love Safeway. However, things have changed over the last few years that have incredibly changed this chain grocery' store. First of all, the service is non existence. The help is all but incompetent. The customer service side is run by imbeciles in my experience. Im speaking of mostly the online delivery side which seems to be run by employees that have barely graduated fourth grade. It is a challenge to speak someone that is versed in English and that just doesn't want to transfer your call to someone else. Safeway in Sonoma used to be the place to shop for groceries. Unfortunately it's not what it used to be. The store is often not stocked. The cashiers are shockingly rude. For example, you need to buy of variety of snacks for an event. As you put your items on the counter you are met with a cashier making unwarranted derogatory remarks towards. Why? I don't know, but it has happened at least three times to me. I get the same comments over buying water. The management there can't seem to make it stop. It is not pleasant to shop there. read more

This is for the bakery... The small young woman who was working at the time was unpacking items with gloves, eating and wiping her nose with the gloves. Its common sense not to do that. How does she have a Food Handler Certificate? I get that the store needs good employees fast but you should really pay attention to your employees and reprimand them. The girl saw that I saw her, and she just kept going with the same glove. She held her hand to her nose and stared straight ahead. Hoping she realized it and felt ashamed. First off before you even enter the store you have to hope you can enter the parking lot without getting your car dinged. Stock boys were hard at it but taking up the entire aisle with no regard to the shoppers. After navigating all that and hopefully you're able to find what you need you face the checkout line. The checkers were fine but one is faced with trying to make room for all the customers slowly moving down the one area to leave. I think the most maddening part of my shopping experience was seeing all the congestion and 2 female managers just standing there in the middle of it all . Not the most pleasant shopping experience that's for sure. I decided to go light inside of this location. Only grab a few things and hopefully leave a positive review for a Safeway location for once. Didn't happen. The thing with not having set sizes when ordering items leaves a lot open to interpretation which in turn leads to whatever prejudice's the person may or may not have. In this instance it was underfeeding. I asked for an item from the deli that was roughly the size of a white castle hamburger yet I am guessing I would of still had to of paid full price. Thanks but no thanks even though Sonoma is pretty far out of the way I won't return to this location again. Overall this place is NOT a great place to go if you're of African decent. I would definitely avoid this place. There are a lot alternative dining establishments in Sonoma and if you're just visiting I would suggest just keep driving instead of stopping at this location. As you can see from my other reviews I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately in The Bay Area...However! When it comes to stocks and inventory, excellent.. Other staff on the floor, excellent BUT the bagger? She was the one with some patches on her arms for I guess medical patch for monitoring sugar, she just threw all of my groceries in each plastic bag.. Imagine putting laundry detergent with a deli, cold frozen ice cream with bread (it sogs my bread), and some frozen meat with hot food from deli (tenders), and toothpaste with food, produce with dog food, I mean, as a bagger this is actually common sense, you don't need training to know this.. And the worst part was she was just throwing it in a bag like if the groceries have life, it would cry out foul!! Is that how she treats her own groceries? All my salads are crashed and my herbs as well, my strawberries and blackberries container were dented because you don't put heavy stuff over it... She actually doubled my job by re-bagging it.. The "racist Safeway store" I have ever shopped at. I never had a bad experience with any other Safeway. I used to work at Westlake, California Safeway for three years from 2012 to 2015 as a cashier when I was a college student. So, I had knowledge about Safeway's policies. I went to this Safeway to return my groceries, which were 3 baby juice pouches, a few snack pack vanilla puddings, and 2 teether wafers, around 8:20 pm on August 2nd. I bought these items on July 28th,2022. They all were in good condition and had a receipt. However, the caucasian guy with long hair who works in customer service and the Caucasian lady who is seen as a check stand manager didn't accept my return items. She gave me a few reasons. The first reason was that "those are perishable items and they cannot accept for return". (even tho those items are not perishable) When I told her "those are not and they are from the regular shelf", she gave me another reason "oh you need to return those items within "36 hours", but I will let you return only two teether wafers". Either she was lying to me or doesn't know Safeway store's return policies well even though she's a check-stand "manager". The guy from the customer service and she looked at me like "a naive Asian" who doesn't know anything. I still remember their look on me. However, I left and double-checked Safeway's return policy online because I need to fight for my rights. It said "-Customers can return or exchange most items at Safeway as long as they have the proof of purchase and return the items to the store. -Returning both perishable and non-perishable products to Safeway is possible. -All store merchandise, except liquor and infant formula, is returnable or exchangeable" So I went inside the store again and talked with the store manager. I explained to her about the store return policy and the situation. The store manager asked the check-stand manager for the reason. The check stand manager told her that "it was because of baby's juice pouches and snack pack pudding". And then the store manager told her, customer can return any baby's food except baby formula" ‍ Safeway needs to train its employees about microaggression and Safeway's policy. if you shop at Safeway, you make sure how to fight for your rights. Nice clean grocery store with all the goodies you need, but they rarely have anyone at the registers. On my last visit to Sonoma we went to Safeway several times -- probably 5 or 6 -- and it was always super crowded and there was only ever one register open besides the express lane with a 15 item maximum. :( The shopping experience is fine -- really nice prepared food section and produce, but it's a let down to stand in line with a zillion people and take longer to get through checkout than it takes to actually grocery shop. read more

The male pharmacist here is pretty unhelpfu/angry, I had an appointment for a vaccine and he tried to pressure me into a different vaccine but wouldn't or couldn't answer my questions about why I needed that one instead of the one I wanted. I was following the guidelines on Safeway's very own website! He started getting weird and kinda rude at, what I thought were really reasonable questions. I didn't even use a demanding tone with him, just asked for clarification and it was like he was getting angry about it, so I just left without the vaccines. We went here a few times over the weekend when I was in town for a bachelorette party and wow, my frustration going to this store was so intense. Point blank, they need to have better people working the check out lines. I had an out-of-state drivers license and the lady had to call over her manager (we waited 5 minutes) for him to prove that it was a real ID and I showed her where the date of birth was and even told her to scan it but she wouldn't. Made a quick stop to enjoy a drink at Starbucks, located inside Safeway. The Barista were friendly, I had my drink within minutes. Wanting to take advantage of the amenities, I headed to the back of the store. Awaited In Line. The Restrooms in the place, DISGUSTING! No paper towels. A half roll of toilet paper left on the top of the tank. Filth build up all over the floor, walls, around the toilet. The aroma in the air was urine. It was awful. I asked to speak to the Store Manager, He seemed surprised that it was so bad. " It's cleaned nightly. " No way, absolutely no way is this one morning of filth. Our family had been shopping at our local Safeway for years and due to lack of service and horrible customer service we have left our local market and drive a little further but Lucky is now our go to store. Having called Safeway's upper management I have a feeling that this chain is on its way out. I made an appointment online to get a flu shot at the pharmacy. When I arrived, I was told that no Safeway in Northern California has any flu vaccines. True? I don't know, but I'm not going to waste any more time with this pharmacy. Edit: The appropriate action is reconsidering the contract you have with whoever provides your pharmacy services. I actually don't mind getting groceries at Safeway. The staff is so friendly and helpful, I love the organization and layout of the store. My top praise goes to Colleen though. She is such a light and has gone above and beyond to help me on several occasions. She is a natural friend and that is what I want in my community. I want to enjoy running my errands because of the fun chats with almost strangers that I may have along my day. Sonoma Safeway definately has hospitality as a priority and I really appreciate it. read more
