We've been purchasing Primavera products for many years until now. Their processing procedures require review. A suggestion would be to have the entire staff to taste their own product. For almost $4.00 per tamale, the Roasted Green Chile & Jack Cheese Tamales had green roughage with every bite. It was a nuisance having to spit out each bite. Rainbow Grocery cooperative had a date stock date of 06/14/2024. Even the Squash Tamale was similar. read more

I will echo another reviewer on here that mentioned the quality control of these tamales. I just at the worst green Chile tamale from Primavera. I have given them numerous chances, but this last one, I had to spit tough skins out in each bite, or sharp stick like fibers. I'm done!! read more

My favorite vegetarian tamales. For years, I have found them consistently moist, the flavors are excellent and enjoyed by my non-vegetarian friends. Great value for the product! read more

Good tasting, but expensive for what you get. A lot of inexpensive corn with very little filling, but they taste good. I doubt I'll ever buy them again, they just weren't worth the price. $16.99 for 4 -= that's $4.25 each... for just corn mush? read more

Primavera - a hand holding a business card - Grocery Near Me - Sonoma, California

Best corn tortillas ever in retail. I just wish they were available in more places! Wondering if the brick and mortar location is still here. Hard to find info. read more

San Francisco Ferry Building - Must Visit Saturday Mornings My family has been eating Primavera's tamales for years. The tamales are not cheap, but they are of incredible value. The quality of the ingredients, texture, and taste is off the hook. There is a solid variety to choose from each week, and while we have our favorites, we've never had a single Primavera tamale that was poorly constructed, overseasoned, or loaded with masa but skimpy on filling. Primavera has become our go-to tamale! read more

Literally the best salsa in the world.. I'm obsessed and I love that I can find it at my local natural food store and Whole Foods market! Woohoo!! read more

Primavera - Best salsa ever - Grocery Near Me - Sonoma, California

I have been buying these tamales since they were first sold at Somoma Market when they first came out. It was an outstanding product. fifteen plus years later, I have noticed the quality has declined. For instance, I am partial to the butternut squash tamales. I have counted as few as 3 corn kernles,a drop of green chili and cheese at the bottom only. The tamales taste delicious as always but the filling needs to be improved. I think you need to ramp up your quality control. Thank You read more

These store bought tamales are heaven. The corn is sweet, with real corn kernals embedded in the tamale exterior. The cheese, roasted chiles are fresh and chunky. Don't think I can ever go back to any other tamale. Did I mention it checks in at under 300 calories each for the roasted green Chile and Jack cheese tamale? ..I'm sold. I now have to figure out how to get my hands on more from a more local store.....I bought these in sf. read more

best tamales. i prefer their tamales over meat tamales. My fav are the ones with pumpkin or butternut squash. I have not tried anything with beans just because i'm not fond of beans. read more

Primavera hits the spot for Christmastime tamales. While they've raised their price, they have improved overall quality. The last time I had them, I was "meh." Seriously, I had gone to Grocery Outlet&was comparing canned beef tamales out of the Midwest. Tamales are masa packages of deliciousness. No surprise the Primavera tamales on the shelves at Browns Valley Market had practically been picked clean. Their mushroom/spinach/salsa with 2 cheeses flavor is excellent. It sounds like a confused mishmash (especially with the mushrooms), and it is a coherent, filling whole. In the autumn/winter season, their butternut squash/corn flavor is sweet&savory perfection. Top it with a pumpkin salsa, hot sauce, and you're good to go. Primavera typifies "hipster Mexican." They're an "artisan producer"- https://www.sonomacounty.com/culinary/primavera-tamales They're related to the fancy El Molino Central as well as C Casa at Napa's Oxbow Market. Filling, delicious&surprisingly unpretentious on a cold winter's night. read more

For years I have loved these great tomales especially my favorite Butternut Squash Tamales but the last few times I have purchased them from the store, I have been very disappointed. They now seem to be almost all corn meal with very little filling. I do not know if there are different people in control or what but I am sad to only have memories of these. read more

Best. Tamales. Ever. Had them tonight for the first time and my wife agrees. We have family in New Mexico and while they have great food nothing there compares. read more

I just bought today at Marina Supermarket "Roasted Green Chiles with Jack Cheese," tamales thinking it was the same as the "Spicy Roasted Green Chiles tamales" I bought last week, and I was so disappointed with product .Th corn husk covering was inadequate with paper wrapping substitute used to hold together the tamales. Consequently, the tamales leaked out of the wrapping, also disgustingly, there was a strand of black hair inside the wrapper too, yuck, yuck, yuck. Moreover, there was a lot of cheese compared to the green chiles inside the thin masa. I shall not buy this from this company again. read more

I was trying to reach somebody in the offices, but they are remarkably below the radar on the Internet. I love this salsa, so much I drive 20 minutes to get it even though I have four other grocery stores between my home and that destination. We've been buying it for a couple of years. I just picked one up from Whole Foods Market in Redwood City and something has changed that I am alarmed about! This batch tastes like marinara sauce. The color I noticed when I went to grab it out of the case was bright orange, not the deep red color that I'm used to. The consistency looked different too, chunky like tomato sauce and when I dipped the chip in and took a bite, it tasted completely bland. I'm hoping this is just a momentary problem with one batch and not that the company has been bought out by a bigger entity who messed up the recipe or that the company messed with the recipe. If anyone from Salsa of Sonoma happens to read this and respond, I would love to know what you think happened here. I'm a loyal fan though. Thus the five star rating even though the container in my fridge raider right now is about a 1 star. read more

Delicious, but pricey. In San Francisco, a package of four are up to $14 now (May 2019). I seem to remember them being below $10 not so long ago. That's more expensive than the Tamale Lady, RIP and bless her soul. read more

The tortillas are insanely pricey but always good so I splurge. But something has changed. Were preservatives added in the tortillas? I became itchy and had difficulty breathing after eating a tortilla. read more

Don't go here unless invited by a sandwich board. You are probably familiar with the tamales (Sonoma Market, Ferry Building Farmers Market, Whole Foods) and you know they are good. So, you might think that next time you are in Sonoma you'll swing by to buy them at the source. Beware! This is the factory, not a storefront. We looked up the address and drove up and down Sonoma Highway looking for it. The numbers here are whacked, 17070 is before 17000 for some reason. We recognized the smell of tamales being cooked so we walked towards the door. It looked like an office and the door was locked, so we tried around the back past the junk in the yard ( a rusty clothes washer and such ) and that's where we surprised eight Mexican maidens doing their thing, flapping, pounding, grinding, slicing... and carrying a large tray of fresh tortillas. [start of dramatization] Can we buy your tamales? Blank stares. Donde estan los tamales? Por favor. More blank stares. Yo quiero los tamales. (I'm pleading now). Por favor. More blank stares and a giggle. I then notice a stack of tamales by the door and start moving closer to them. It's at this point that a young woman places herself between me and the tamales arms outstretched. "No buy here. Sonoma Market." [end of dramatization] I've heard, although I can't corroborate, that on occasion they sell from here. So, if you are driving up Sonoma Highway around Agua Caliente, look for a sandwich board advertising the fact. Otherwise, leave the nice ladies alone to do their thing. They have a lot of tamales to make. read more

Just bought the Pumpkin, Green Chiles, and White Sharp Cheddar Tamales at Whole Foods. SO good! Large tamales, full of flavor, and great fresh organic ingredients. Perfect fall meal. Will definitely buy again! read more

These are the best but they may be no more. Their product has vanished from the shelves of retailers, they don't answer their phone and their website is down. Possibly a victim of the October fires in Sonoma County. read more

Wow. I bought these on a whim and my entire family loved them- even my picky eaters! BBQ chipotle bean and cheddar was flavor packed and got raves all around. Will definitely buy them again. Bravo! read more

These are excellent organic vegetarian tamales. Some are even vegan, I think. Alan first discovered them at the Piedmont Grocery several years ago and they have been an occasional dinnertime treat. I know they're available elsewhere in the Bay Area but we haven't seriously searched. Sunday we were at the El Cerrito Natural Grocery picking up potatoes and, wandering around to see what else they had, happened upon a whole stash of these. They come 4 to a package. We bought butternut squash w/ roasted green chiles. We had them for dinner tonight and they were delicious as always, topped w/ a mango salsa. It's nice to know they're available so close to home. read more

The best tamales I've had anywhere; the pork or chicken ones are excellent, but so are the veggie and cheese varieties. We live in Sonoma part-time and usually pick up the tamales (along with salsa) at the Friday farmers market. They used to sell them at the factory (that is, at this location) but the local bureaucrat-nerds cited them for not having the right license to sell retail, so they had to stop. The tamales bought at the source were much cheaper than at the upscale retail outlets. read more

These people make SUCH good tamales! They are vegetarian and most of the varieties have cheese. They use less common ingredients, like butternut squash, and they are packed full of flavorful stuff. The overall experience is consistent. They are super yummy! read more

this review is for their salsa not their tamales which I think are the best around. Was at Whole Foods and saw that they had a salsa, I thought wow because that is a really good brand so I decided to try it. It was the worst salsa I have ever had. It tasted like a canned tomato sauce you would use to make spaghetti with. No Mexican seasoning like cumin or chili powder or even garlic. Very bland and it was the most expensive salsa they carried! I'm taking it back to the store for a refund. read more

We found these at a whole foods in Monterey. They were marked up 700%, no doubt--not cheap--but even at that price they were more than worth it. I'm a Mexican food devotee, and these are, without question, the best tamales I've ever had. So, so good. read more

I just drove clear across town bcuz of the raving review tht the mercury news had on the pumpkin tamales and they are bland and tasteless!! Save your money they charge 11.00 @ whole foods for 4!! I've had the frozen tamales tht trader joes sells during the holidays and they are fabulous I can hardly wait for them and for $10.00 you get close to a dozen btw try the veggie ones----yum yum. Oh and I do know tamales we travel to Mexico every year and always have some tamales there so I do have a legitimate comparison. read more

My wife bought a package of four Black Bean Bonanza tamales from Whole Foods in Roseville last Thursday, 2/2. The "sell by" date was 2/6. When I opened up the package Monday morning (2/6) to get two to take to work, it was apparent that something was "off." Nevertheless I smothered them in guacamole and salsa and they were OK. Today (2/7) I tried the same trick with the remaining two, but had to throw half of one out as it was clearly inedible. read more
