Best pickles I've had on the west coast. I buy them as lime green as possible. The taste like the half sour dills I grew up with.

If you are looking for the absolute best in Sonoma County for high-end foodstuffs, look no further…read more Big John's Market is essentially a pilgrimage site for anyone who takes their pantry seriously. The store is beautifully laid out and curated with an eye for quality that puts most 'gourmet' chains to shame. The produce is consistently stunning, and the local wine selection perfectly reflects the best of our backyard (Dry Creek, Alexander Valley, and beyond). The standouts: * The Deli/Prepared Goods: This is the heart of the operation. The sandwiches are legendary, the pizza is artisanal-grade, and the prepared salads are actually fresh and inventive--not just an afterthought. * The Cheese Section: Simply sublime. It is clear whoever curates this section has a deep passion for local creameries and international classics alike. * The Experience: Despite the high-end inventory, the staff is incredibly friendly and grounded. Plus, in a town like Healdsburg, having a lot with decent parking is a massive luxury that makes the trip even easier. Whether you're stocking up for a dinner party or just grabbing the best lunch in town, this place is the gold standard.

I love local wines, but this Italian girl also loves exploring and trying these imported Italian wines and provisions too. Variety...the spice of life! The owners are extremely knowledgeable about all the wines they carry. Need a recommendation? Just ask! I've been in a few times so far to purchase Italian wines and treats including Antonio Mattei Biscotti di Prato (the best biscotti ever!), torrone (a nougat confection), pasta, and tomato sauce. They also carry Italian sardines, olive oils, cookbooks, wine decanters, and more. Follow them on social to learn about their Friday wine tastings (I still need to get to one), and give them a visit!

It's great to be back!…read moreWe have been visiting Ciao Bruto for the past few months, it's a fabulous new Italian wine and Provision store (along with French Champagne) that is unlike any other wine and provision store in the North Bay, or even in most of the Bay Area. Large, excellent selection of high quality wine from every region in Italy. Piedmont, Sicily, Tuscany etc. etc. they are all covered and in EVERY price range. I have bought numerous bottles based off the recommendations of the owners, all have been exceptional. Add in a large selection of French Champagne and Italian sparkling wine and you have a truly unique assortment of Italian wine and French Champagne. If that was the extent of Ciao Bruto it would be great but the provisions part of the store is awesome! Specialty Italian ancient grain pasta in all shapes and sizes. Believe me, you can taste the difference compared to chain store pasta. Also a large assortment of tinned fish-shellfish, honey, spices, vinegars and oils, pickled veggies, various pestos and sauces, flour, chocolates and others confections, pasta making machines, Italian cookbooks and a whole lot more. All this imported from Italy! You can't quite completely "grocery shop" there but you can get specialty food, wine and provisions you simply can't get anywhere else. Ciao Bruto is the creation from the people next door at Idlewild Wines, also makers of great Italian Piedmont varieties such as Dolcetto, Barbara, Nebbiolo, Arneis etc. all grown in nearby Mendocino County. Service at Ciao Bruto is friendly and very helpful. Not sure about Italian wine, French Champagne or specialty food from Italy, no problem, just ask for help from Courtney whose expertise is French Champagne or Thomas whose knowledge is all about Italian wine and food. We are so happy to have Ciao Bruto locally here in Healdsburg!

Parking is fairly plentiful in the strip mall it's located in. Stepping inside you'll find a nice market with many different products such as produce, a small salad bar, olive bar, groceries and drinks as well as a deli. Everything looked really good quality. We chose two Tuscan veggie sandwiches which were already prepared in the deli case and looked incredible. The helpful deli counter employee recommended that they were best heated up and offered to do so while we looked around. Soon our sandwiches were warm and off we went. The sandwich was delicious. Absolutely a delight to the senses. Visually it was fresh and vibrant. The layers were impressive. The taste, amazing. The olive tapenade, pesto, greens and veggies were delicious. It's been a while since I've had such a delicious sandwich. We both were saying "yum, mmm" with each bite. Epic sandwich. The service was great. I highly recommend Shelton's Natural Foods market.

We wanted to get a ready prepared sandwich to take with us for our wine tasting. I chose the pesto chicken panini on the suggestion from the employee behind the counter. Also pickup up the pesto pasta salad!!!! Oh my! The chicken sandwich-spectacular for a deli sandwich from a market. The chicken was thick sliced and had loads of pesto (yum) and spinach. The pesto pasta salad was also strongly flavored with pesto : ). Both paired well with our tastings. We will DEFINITELY come here again for a reasonably priced Delicious sandwich!!! (Sorry no pictures as the sandwich and salad were devoured quickly)
