To Lavinia One of the most unreasonable people ever faced, i still remember her toxicity. I heard Michael called to the front and the female customer was arguing with Norma. The female shopper explained her situation but in a rush hour busy time, it's difficult to stop the registers and figure out the FACTS. As a manger I would not issue disciplinary action on the sales floor that is unprofessional, also do not act until the facts are all known Never had Norma so upset before all the years I have been shopping Safeway Sedona she wanted to quit because of this shopper. In the end I heard the female shoppers view, the employees and the customers after her. I side with the facts , this customer breeds negativity upon others. Safeway had employees yesterday not wearing a mask. One such person was even handling produce with no mask and no gloves

I was buying potato wedges from them today and the girl was getting it into the paper bag. A few dropped on their counter she was about to grab it and put it in my bag but I think she remembered I'm watching so she didn't give me the ones from the counter. Then after she weight it and handed to me. I saw her pick up those potato wedges on the counter and dumped it back to the basket! During this time I think it's pretty important to keep the food clean... I didn't buy the potato wedges I can't imagine what else has touched our food! read more

Beware: I will not buy deli meats from this store - I am afraid of getting sick because health department handling procedures are often not followed. Perhaps, new deli employees are not well trained? Meat is often touched by a deli clerks who use their gloves to clean-up and then handle meet with the same gloves. Deli meat is also put on a scale without adequate protective paper underneath, so some of the meat lays on the bare metal surface of the scale. I have literally refused sliced deli meat and walked away 3 times over the past month. I have never had anything like this occur at Bashes & Whole Foods supermarkets in Sedona, or at Safeway in Phoenix. read more

We visited this safeway quite a few times during our 3 day stay in Sedona. The store itself is well stocked and clean. I always find that safeway is a good store to go to, because regardless of location, they tend to be clean and the employees are generally nice. Victoria, the cashier however was not so nice. By coincidence or what have you, of the 5 times we were there, 3 times Victoria was our cashier. Every single time she was standoffish, but I can put up with that, after all she was working during the holidays. What really annoyed me and prompted me to write this review was her attitude when I mistakingly used the wrong pin for my debit card and had to slide my card again. She started barking orders at me telling me to slide my card again ( I had already done it) and while I was waiting for the machine to prompt me for my pin again, she still insisted I run my card again, at that point the machine prompts me for the pin and as I'm putting my fingers in the key pad, Victoria, in the most condescending, annoying tone, says repeatedly "PIIIIN your PIIIIN" at this point I couldn't take it anymore, I politely told her that she didn't have to be so rude to me, at which point she turned to the next customer in line and while looking at him said "rude, you think I'm being rude!?" and I said to her that yes, she was being very rude and condescending in the tone she was using to talk to me. She then in a very smart ass tone while looking at that same customer said that if "I thought she was being rude then she was sorry" Usually an apology would be all that is needed. However Victoria's apology was anything but sincere, specially since after I left the register I could hear making fun of me with that very next customer. I was able to hear this because I was at the starbucks counter thats right in front of her register. After that incident I went to the Basha's down the street instead. read more

Located in West Sedona, we were referred here for bigger selection and better prices, than being in the heart of Sedona where our lodging was located... While it is a little bit of a drive, we made the trek, the red scenery along the way was a nice touch on the way for groceries... Groceries you say.. on a "vacation trip" per say... well... there are just some nice goodies that need to be on hand... This was a really clean and friendly grocery store that offered nice deals on fresh fruit and vegetables...two artichokes for 3 bucks... Tejavas for a buck a piece... a whole watermelon for 1.89.... Glad I found this store. Sedona is a small town... and has a small town vibe... I noticed that with the customers and the people whom worked in here... Small towns ALWAYS have a tenancy to move a little slower... and people a little more friendlier, people make small talk with others... that is what they do.... rather than the hustle and bustle of bigger cities.... The lines were a little longer at the check outs... people were kind, held spots in line, smiles go along way, especially when waiting in line... I received hellos and can I help you from most of the staff here.... I could have gotten miffed at the long check out lines... but life is too short to be mad. read more

We have always been happy with Safeway's personal, especially Edna a super clerk. My only problem is that they move things around too much so the object you want is harder to find. As with most stores they are excluding a lot of brands with their own and taking our personal choices away. read more

My wife and I bought property here a couple of years ago and plan to build and retire here in another year so we travel here often staying in one of the local motels. Our last trip here, we visited the store 4 separate times to grab ice cream, wine and snacks. Every time, the lines were incredibly long with what appeared to be 2 people total working. Even they were complaining about the lack of checkers. This Safeway is relatively small compared to the one near our home in California (which is the town where Safeway is headquartered) and is need of a facelift to match their newer stores. The next time we travel to Sedona, we will try Bashas and see if the lines are any shorter. read more

I have been shopping at this Safeway since the mid90's and it has always been overpriced because of being the one of the few stores in town. I'm not sure if there is new management or lack of it but shopping here is a nightmare! They are always out of items and the ridiculously long lines take longer to get through than the actual shopping. I understand that things get busy and long lines can happen at the grocery store. After standing in line for almost 10 minutes another aisle opened, but the checker did not bother to invite anyone standing in line for a prolonged period of time. Instead those at the back of long lines piled into the recently open register. I found out from my checker that the person who opened that register was actually the Manager! They had everything I needed and the staff was friendly. The main issue with this place is the setup. They have the registers too close to the aisles. The line backs up into the aisles themselves and it's impossible to try and get through there. Otherwise, everything is fine here. read more

Unlike other grocery stores, Safeway will not put a card in for you in order for you to get the specials! We were visiting from a state where there are no Safeways and wanted to buy water that was on sale 4 cases/ $10...they wanted to charged us almost 5 for 1 case! Super friendly service, like super! The man in the deli let us taste test food before we bought it, the produce was very fresh. Several slices of watermelon for $2.50 and they were sweet. The red potatoes were amazing, we used them in a bbq along with many other produce items. The meat selection was pretty good, they sell bbq packages for under $22. Meaning several different meat items in one big package, such as: links, pork chops, steaks, and chicken breasts. The checkout people and bakery people were very friendly. The only small complaints are that they fill their doughnuts with buttercream instead of custard. The carrot cake is awesome, but I could do without the deli pizza. It just didn't really have too much flavor. Other than that, it is in a pretty convenient location right in a strip mall. read more

Conveniently located within walking distance to our resort (Wyndham Sedona.) We were able to find everything for our needs for the week. The store itself was nothing but a typical grocery store. What a bust shopping at Safeway today. Been shopping here for 10 years. Noticed a lot of products they carry has changed to different but inferior foods. Couldn't find a lot of items I went there to get. Was scratching my head as to what's going on. You know how the checker always says...."Did you find everything you needed ?". I told the checker "No". The fish looked terrible, Deitz & Watson wasn't being carried in the Deli Dept., no Cherries in the fruit section, out of Extra Large or Jumbo eggs, no Aloute Cheese. And my total bill seemed more than usual. The cashier reminded me that Albertson's bought Safeway. Well, I'm 62 years old and always hated shopping at Albertson's. The "Key Buy" store ! Their quality has always been at the bottom of Markets. Guess, I'm now driving to Fry's in Cottonwood. Kroger rules ! Just got Cherries there last week. What a bust ! After searching the Internet. Albertson's owns Vons, Pavillions with 2,200 stores and 280,00 employees ! Albertson's is now trying to buy Rite-Aid. When is the Government step in with a anti-trust law suit ? This is bull**** !!!! I want variety and quality !!!!! Plus you can buy cheaper gasoline / Diesel at Fry's too. But I don't want to drive 20 miles for my groceries in Cottonwood. I guess I'll have to. So my family and I came to Sedona for a week long vacation and to save a few bucks decided to buy some snacks, water, and already made food to take back to our hotel room when we check in. Well first off we aren't familiar with the layout of the store because well obviously we don't live here and it's our first time in the store. So I decide to ask the baristas at the Starbucks that is located right by the entrance where the restroom is instead of walking around the store clueless. Well I politely say "excuse me" and instead of some courteous response the two of them, who by the way are just standing around gossiping, turn to look at me and one of them looks me up and down and responds with a rude "what?" So I proceed to ask her where the restrooms are and she lazily points to the produce area and says "it's past the produce area where it's always been." And rolls her eyes and turns back to her conversation with the other barista. So I go to the restroom and guess what! No toilet paper! A Safeway employee walks in and I mention it to her and she says "that's not my job" so I respond with "well can you tell whoever is in charge of the restrooms then?" And this woman also rolls her eyes at me and says "sure" and walks out. God bless my mother for always having napkins because after 10 minutes of waiting in and around the restrooms for someone to bring some toilet paper we had to improvise and use Starbucks napkins, oh the irony, to do our business. So after that we go to the deli area and ask the guy to give us one order of fried chicken and one order of baked chicken and one large cup of potato salad. Not the most complicated order. Well he keeps rolling his eyes at my dad and questioning why he wants to much chicken. So my dad replies with "well we will eat some of it today and the rest tomorrow." For some dumb reason that answer isn't good enough and he continues to mumble how that doesn't make sense to him and what not. As he gives us what we ask for my dad decides he wants some potato wedges as well. Well this just ticks him off even more. He rolls his eyes and reluctantly throws some potato wedges in a bag and tosses it to my dad followed with a "anything else? There are other customers I have to attend to." My dad and I look around us and there is no one in the area except us. My dad calls him out by saying "I don't see anyone else." And he rolls his eyes and walks away. Now finally! Let me tell you about the cashier lady! So my dad speaks and understands English pretty well, after all he did all his schooling in the USA, but you can tell he has a Spanish accent and he sometimes needs clarification on some things. So we load our stuff onto the conveyor belt and she starts to scan and my dad is standing in front of her because he is the one paying. She finishes scanning our items and my dad sees the total on the screen and starts to pull that amount out from his wallet and she looks at him and the money and tells him to put it on the counter where the card machine is at, so he does, then she grabs it. So my dad out of curiosity asks her why she wanted it on the counter first. And she looks at him shocked and asks "you know English?" And we both look at her like "uhhhh yea..." and so she continues with "well you never know now a days with your kind." HOW RUDE!!!!!!!! I have never been to a place with such poor customer service or been treated that way because of my ethnicity! Never going back! All I know is that those people should be happy that I've got Jesus in my heart because I was so close to just going all Los Angeles born and raised feisty Latina on them! Safeway was a very convenient couple blocks away from our vacation condo. It had everything we needed - groceries, bakery and deli foods, spirits and beer, and everything else we forget to bring with us. Nice to have very ordinary super market in Sedona. Price and line-up of products are almost exact same as other Safeways. Rather go to other local store which puts doubled priced tags on wines, you can have almost anything you want. read more

It's a typical Safeway / Von's market, which is in a central location in West Sedona. No complaints or problems experienced there.

The prices at other stores are better but they do have sales that are pretty good. There are a few things that you can't find or are better than anywhere else. Their French bread is the best you will find at any grocery store, come at around 6:00 to 6:30 to get loaves right out of the oven. Their deli tamales and quiche Lorraine are great. Their cheddar broccoli soup is wonderful if you add extra cheddar while warming it up. read more

A lot of the food I have bought here was rotten and expired, I had to return it. I shop here when I come into town every year. Bashas is much better. I always have to wait in a long line at this Safeway, and usually there is a an older lady with straight grey shoulder length hair and she always coughs a lot. I usually shop at about 8pm. She must work 150 hours per week because I only come into town once a year for a month, and she is always there. However, one time, one time, there was this really fast kid doing the cash register, must have been in high school, but golly he was fast! He needs to give fast lessons to slow motion coughing lady. And the coughing lady seems to know everybody in town, she talks and talks and talks and starts talking about her dog and cat and her past lives, please where is the scan man??? I am OUTRAGED at the treatment of a tourist family I observed at the Safeway in Sedona, Arizona, a town that depends on tourism. This family did not have a Safeway Club card. I offered to let them use mine as the clerk said the store didn't provide a courtesy swipe. I was told that I couldn't do that as everyone needed their own card. WHAT KIND OF A POLICY IS THAT? This is not the way foreign visitors should be treated and it reflects poorly on our country. Safeway should be ashamed of itself. I have been a very loyal customer for over 50 years. This is the first time I feel I can not shop at Safeway when people are treated so disrespectfully. Safeway may have lost a very loyal customer. I hope management on a NATIONAL level will rethink this policy. A courtesy swipe should be allowed for all tourists and foreign visitors. Sedona is a tourist destination. We arrived early evening and headed right to the grocery store - Safeway. I pick out over $100 of food. I get to the checkout register - I ask the cashier if she has a store card I can use because I am from out of town and she says - no, you will have to go to the customer service desk and fill out an application - in a snippy tone of voice. I said i will leave all this food here - and she said I cannot do that. So I left the store - and went to the Basha up the street. They were extremely accommodating and ran thru a temp card. I'm a local and I shop at both Safeway and Bashas. After all, they are about two blocks away from each other, and they are both nice stores. I think that Safeway gets the edge, however. Their selection is great, the staff is always friendly, and they employ some very nice young disabled kids who do packing and such. Safeway is a good citizen for the town of Sedona and we all like them. As someone else said, they have a nice Starbucks and free wi-fi as well. read more
