I love this store. And I love this location, it's near the lakeside so I get deli items to picnic on sunny days. I have found free parking along the street both times I'm here. It's near the library I go to also. The deli selections are good and the hot food selections are good too. I get the Chinese rice bowl or pre made salads. Many nice produce items. I did hear lots of customers inside complaining about various small things. It's my favorite grocery store and loved everything about it. It's in a really cute part of town. Nobody is ever there bothering anyone outside when I've been there a few times. read more

The employess all look like they hate their jobs. Self checkout guy sits in his chair with a hat on and glares at the customers. I much prefer the Admiral location. I asked for fish from the fish counter and she went to the prepackaged fish and was gloing to give me that one. I told her no 3 times before she relented to give me the fish from the case. I'm not sure if she switched it up on me. I couldn't see what she was doing behind the counter. Don't forget Silver, the cashier who looks like a drugged out sloppy mess. This store is a joke. You need to push past the homeless/panhandlers to get in. The produce is so bad. Rotting tomatoes with big black splotches, wilted brown lettuce. Zero daily baked goods. They have Pepperidge Farm Dublin Shortbread Cookies!!! Or should I more accurately say, had the Dublins until I bought the last bag on the shelf on Sunday the 6th of September this year, 2020. Yes, I am that person who will buy the last of something on the shelf. These cookies used to be more common in the stores in North Seattle and the Shoreline area but as of recent they have been disappearing from the shelves. Not just because people have been buying them, but in a number of stores their shelf space has disappeared too. I came to this Safeway on an off chance they might have the Dublins and they did! So happy! Hope they are able to restock the shelves so others can enjoy the Dublin goodness as well. The Safeway is large and was very neat and tidy on my visit. It had a variety of offerings in the product areas carried. And they had the cookies I was looking for! Both self check-out and in person tellers were available on my stop. Yesterday 7/19/24 I went in to buy a lottery ticket. What's to my surprise the manager said it was closed I'm like it's not even 5pm yet right? Then this other customer steps in lol and saying to the manager "oh you have 5 signs that say customer service is closed!" And walks off LOL! The manager then responds to that customer "yeah we have those 5 signs that say closed" because everyone is asking if we are closed regardless of the signs. HUM? Hello! To the manager the reason we (the public) keep asking you if it's closed is because it's "normal business Hours!" Therefore customer service should be kept open! Duh! 9am-5pm that is normal business hours I was there way before 5pm. Then the manager said "to purchase my lottery ticket from the machine!" Excuse me, If I had wanted to buy from the machine I would have done so. But like I told you at the store I had forgotten my glasses! Anyway I walked out! This is Safeway is now on my way home so I stop in every now and then to get items for dinner. I know there are a lot of one-star reviews but my experience here in mid-May 2019 was a pleasant one. They have an extensive liquor, mixers, wine and beer selection (for a Safeway), a fair selection of organic produce, and I had a short wait for a cashier right after work. People in the store - both shopping and working - were smiley and nice. I took a star off for the crazy parking lot. It's always packed and the spaces are a tight squeeze. If you can, park on 42nd to save yourself the hassle of navigating the lot. read more

Love coming here. Only grocery store around with a parking lot. I've noticed a lot less trash outside of the store. It looks like it's better cared for. Inside is much cleaner and inviting too. I like the flowers as you walk in, good selection. Their breakfast burritos are super yummy and affordable. I like the Starbucks there too. It doesn't feel like you're in a grocery store, and the staff is so nice. I've used the drive up and go and the groceries were selected with a lot of care. It was great except there is no designated parking like at the other stores, so that was confusing. I did notice they seemed to beef up security which was well needed around there. This Safeway is downright disgusting. I have been back living in WS for over 6years now, and this Safeway continues to deteriorate. The bathrooms are just unbearable.... Yesterday there was human feces all over the floor in one and the other bathroom wouldn't even lock. I've learned within this city to bring my own toilet seat covers, disinfecting towels, etc. The staff seem annoyed and never even say a word when you walk up to the checkout stand. And one of the baggers (who clearly has a mental disability) will ask odd questions as he bags your groceries, and take 15+ bagging while there are 10 people in line. The manager just walks around and sighs whenever she needs to do something. Lazy! I avoid this Safeway at all cost unless it's to stop by and grab something on my way home from work, or because I am doing Doordash and have to purchase from this store. The only cashier available at about 6:30 pm on Saturday September 2nd read the date of birth on my drivers license out loud while she typed it in. Your date of birth is personally identifiable information which is protected. Beware shoppers that this practice is not ethical and probably illegal! I don't think anyone wants to be ripped off. It was my last night in Seattle and I wanted to cook a thank-you dinner for my friend who had been such a wonderful host. I came here to buy filet mignon to make shaken beef. I asked the guy for one piece of filet and for him to cube it. He yells to Nick in the back to cube. A few minutes later, the first guy hands me the packaged meat. I call an Uber since it's snowing and get home quickly. I open the meat package and I see ground beef. This is not what I paid $13 for! Ground beef is nowhere near the price of filet mignon. You just ruined my thank-you dinner! I didn't want to pay $8 for another Uber and then again to go back home! So I called Safeway meat section and guess who picked up? Nick. The one who 'cubed' my meat. I tell him I want a refund of my money sent to my home address. He said a manager would call me back. Call never came. I may be acting petty but $13 is still money I worked for. I was also the only one buying meat at that hour. How in the world did I get ground beef instead of filet? I had an experience at this Safeway tonight which makes me never want to go back. I needed to run in for just two things very quickly on my way home from picking up my kids from daycare and school. It was the end of a long day and my two-year-old fell asleep in the car. I had to wake her up to bring her into the store and she started crying. The second I walked in the door, the woman who was running the self check out turned and looked at me in complete disgust. There was no reason for it at all, except for the fact that my daughter was crying. We went down one isle and back up the other, and there was the same lady, glaring at us. I was in the store for maybe three or four minutes and three or four times the same woman was standing there watching us, looking at me and my kids like we were garbage. It was horrible. When we got up to the checkstand, I scanned the first item and threw it in the bag, and it failed to register because it was too light. The same woman came over, disgusted, and swiped her card. I scanned the second item, which was the same thing as the first item, and the same thing happened. She came over, but this time she looked down at my five-year-old who was standing there, and said "You need to stop touching that. The more you mess with it, the more time I'm going to have to spend fixing this." But my daughter hadn't actually done anything. She had touched the bag lightly, but not taken anything out of it. And even if she had, she's five, and that response wouldn't have been necessary. My daughter turned around started looking at a display of soda that was a couple feet away from us. She touched one of the cases of soda and the woman came running over to scold her. My daughter was doing absolutely nothing wrong. A minute later my daughter dropped her toy car on the floor, and I told her to grab it before someone tripped over it. Immediately, before my daughter could even pick it up, the woman ran over and grabbed it, handed it to me and told me "she can't be throwing this on the floor, people need to walk through here." I had JUST told my daughter to pick it up, and it had been on the floor for a split second. I knew people needed to walk through there, and I wasn't going to allow my daughter to throw stuff on the floor. But this woman was looking for any excuse to scold me and my kids. The entire time I was in the store, all I wanted to do was get out as quickly as possible because my toddler was crying. I was miserable, and I was having a hard time, and this employee took this opportunity to be as horrible to me and my kids as she could possibly be, making things so much worse. The last time she came over, I told her that her attitude was making things really difficult for me and it was unnecessary. The manager came over, and wanted to know what was going on. I explained to her that this employee had had her target set on me from the second I walked into the store and that she was being downright awful. The manager said " She told me that your daughter was climbing on the soda display." which was 100% untrue. All she did was put her hand on it. But it was clear that the manager was going to side with the employee, even though she hadn't seen any of what was going on. She insisted that the employee must just be concerned for my kids safety, which was the furthest thing from the truth. She was just being horrible to me because I brought a crying kid into the store, and it has started the second we walked in the door. In the short period of time that I was in the store, two parents made comments to me like "poor girl, she's tired. I don't know how you manage with two little kids" or something along those lines because they could see that my toddler was unhappy and knew that I was probably struggling. Yet an employee thought it was a better approach to tear me down and harass my kids. I don't understand why someone like this would ever be allowed to work with customers, and why this behavior was tolerated. Shopping with kids isn't always fun, but I always do my best to disrupt people as little as possible, and this experience never should've happened. I will never go back to the Safeway again because they clearly don't value their customers at all, and management allows it. read more

This location isn't my favorite, but it works in a pinch. There is no olive bar here like there is at other locations and I find the organization of the store rather confusion. The layout just doesn't align with the way I shop, which probably sounds weird. I also feel like the inventory isn't as plentiful as the 1st Ave location, but maybe that's just my bias kicking in. However, this location seems to have more liquor and wine than the others. Also, most recently I was shopping when it was snowing out and no one at the store was out trying to clear sidewalks or lay out salt for customers. read more

This has to be one of the SLOWEST grocery stores in the entire area. Nobody is in a hurry to help you, check out or run the counters. Heaven Help you if you need them to open the liquor cabinet... as you'll stand there for 10 minutes while "Customer Help needed in the Liquor Isle" plays over and over the intercom system while zombie employees ignore it. "Do not come back." This is what was told to me by the cashier! First time I was at this location. I came in late tonight to grab a couple staple items - Q-tips and garbage bags - and a Cherry Coke. I had total sticker shock at how everything I saw is overpriced at this Safeway location. Do they think everyone in West Seattle is rich? I got the cheapest trash bags I could find at 20 count, Safeway brand, that I thought would still actually hold the trash and not fall apart on me while walking the trash bag out to the dumpster. For a Safeway brand box, 20 count for 13 gallon kitchen trash bags, they charge $5.99! On their website, I can get the same thing but 45 count for $6.99 and delivered to my house for free!!! For the cheapest option they had for Q-tips, which was Safeway brand again at 120 count, they charged $2.49! I can get 350 Q-tips from the dollar store for $1, Winco or Safeway in Mill Creek for $3! And for a 20 oz. Cherry Coke Zero, it was $1.67 - NO, not a 2 liter, 20 OUNCES - and that was the SALES PRICE! Holy freak! Total with tax: $11.11!!! When I went to the only cashier open, and he gave me the total with the whopping $0.12 off the soda, I muttered, "Good grief!" He then replied, "Yeah, it's expensive here." I said, "Wow, just wow. I can't believe how much everything costs here! I may not be back." And this is what he said to me, without skipping a beat, and not kidding at all: "Do not come back." And the guy didn't even bag my stuff. Just handed me the receipt and started ringing up the people behind me. Wow. I was in total disbelief. I'm filling out the customer survey at the bottom of the receipt and calling the store manager tomorrow to tell them about my experience. And don't worry, Luke, I won't be back. read more

Terribly rude staff, long lines, cramped parking lot. The staff in the deli is especially rude and their sandwiches are disgusting at best. They premake their breakfast sandwiches and heat them up. Definitely not fresh. I came in here looking for yeast around Easter and was told where to find it. I looked up and down the aisle at least five times and couldn't find it. I asked a mixed gentleman with glasses to help me. He acted like it was a huge inconvenience while he walked me over there. There was no sign and he showed me where it should have been. He then commented that "we don't have everything" and walked away. So rude and disrespectful. The only reason I come here is because it's convenient as I live a few blocks away. If it wasn't for that, I'd never step foot in here. Sadly, I worked at this location 20 years ago. The service has really gone downhill since then. read more

Long lines; poorly staffed. The Jefferson Square parking lot is a narrowly-spaced nightmare from Hell during peak hours. Staffing is pretty much a freak show of children who have no idea how to conduct themselves in a retail sales environment, so your best bet is to either enjoy your front row seat-- or simply shop elsewhere. I can think of a few changes I'd like to see: 1. Additional intra-aisle signage; too many important categories aren't listed. 2. Half-price sales on cakes and pies when they near their use-by date. 3. Color-coded car-stall lines in the 4 "ranks" in the parking lot, so forgetful shoppers can home in on the correct rank when they leave. I've been shopping there for decades. The complaints here don't resonate with me. The lines aren't allowed to get too long before another checkout counter is opened. The prices are OK as long as one signs up for the online "Just For U" membership and "clips" relevant coupons before shopping. The place is clean enough and uncrowded enough. It's open late at night. Worker told me she didn't have the ability to scan my phone to reload my Starbucks app. I said that was fine and I would just reload it and make an online order because I could not find my card. She says okay. I show her the lists of Starbucks and I point to one and ask if this is her store. She looks at it a bit confused and goes oh yah I think so... I place my order and I ask if she received the order. She holds up her scanner and I repeat myself. She says... "huh?" Then she looks over to her coworker and asks if they do online orders. The coworker says no. She turns back to me and tells me sorry they don't do online orders. Right now I'm walking to the other Starbucks a few blocks away while I freeze my behind off. I'd like to do no stars. Any time I go to this location after 8 pm on any night, there is only one poor cashier at checkout. The line is usually a full grocery isle long. And there is one long black haired fellow who has a bad attitude and I've heard him voice multiple times how he hates it there and he is very unhelpful. My biggest complaint is the lack of staff after 8pm. Takes forever to get in and out as a result. I live one block away, and tonight I went inside and saw the line and drove an extra mile or so to another location just to avoid that nightmare. Super annoying as I live so close, I normally just walk. This location is literally the worst. Often out of product and seems dysfunctional. Drive a little further north down California Ave, the other location is heavenly. read more

I'm pretty sure this is the Safeway that we ventured into. Kinda new looking and clean... we were on a mission to find something quick to carry our oysters home. We had to catch a plane at SeaTac and we had like 10 minutes to think fast and find something. I saw Safeway so I though maybe an oversized reusable lunch sack that you could put sleaves of ice in. That is exactly what we picked up and an employee helped us find it. Cannot beleive that this thing existed, I just kind of imagined it in my head. We picked up the "Lucerne" one that was bright blue and white and had the same motif as the milk cartons. Cows. Great but hey it was mighty useful. We packed it with a few dozen oysters from Blau Oyster Co. and Taylor Shellfish Farms as well as with some smoked salmon (3 types) that we picked up at Pike Place Parket at Pure Food Fish Co. The bag was huge and perfect to carry on. Kept our sea critters nice and cool on our flight back. Only $2.99 plus tax which is cheaper than those cool boxes that they sell at Pike Place that have handles $10 which keep cool too. Threw in my home phone for some United Miles (yes you can link your Safeway account to your United Mileage Plus Acct.) and we were off to the aiport. read more

Lo and behold... a grocery store! And... what do you know, they have food! And wine! And beer! And a Starbucks! Wheeeeeee! I guess it would be time to knock stars off if this Safeway strayed in any way from a normal Safeway. Unless its bathroom was somehow ultra clean, which... somehow I doubt. I didn't brave it to find out, but my general experience is that if you want to smell pee, head into a Safeway bathroom. But again, I didn't venture into the facilities here. Hmm... ever notice that the word facilities has a root of 'facil' which means 'easy' in Spanish? Well, it's much easier to relieve yourself when you don't have to waste a hand holding your nose or risking blackout from oxygen deprivation. Anyway, that brief interlude brought to you by Wild Vines Blackberry Merlot, which is either one step up from Boone's or on the same playing field. I went there in the last minute to get a cake for my boy's first birthday right before Christmas and the lady working the bakery said the main baker was off for the holiday but she was still taking orders and would do her best, and did she ever! I had no idea what kind of cake to get a 1 year old and so when she asked me what what to do with it, I said, "I don't know, something space themed?" and she created the best cake ever from just that! I wish I could add a picture to this review but it had sprinkles in the the shapes of stars and looked so beautiful! We go to the White Center one on occasion, but it's like the red headed stepchild; severely overlooked for lack of interest. I wonder if it is a simple matter of geography and demographic... Yeah. I'm reviewing Safeway. This has been my neighborhood store for the last two months so I've set foot in here quite a bit. I wish I wasn't so lazy because even the QFC across the street is better than this place and Trader Joe's is a block away. I hear in another year Whole Foods will be open too. For now, Metropolitan Market off of Admiral is the place to beat in West Seattle, even though you'll pay a bit more. Anyway... with one star being "complete suckage" in my book, I will give two because it's not quite THAT bad. The prices are pretty reasonable and I've picked up some nice flower arrangements. But the lines are horrible pretty much any time of day, the store is cramped and in need of a makeover, you can't buy alcohol at the Starbucks cafe (but you can pay for anything else, wtf?), and I wouldn't call the produce the absolute freshest in town. Generally the selection is poor unless you need the most basic of items. The Asian food section is a joke. Sad, considering we're in Seattle. Also sad there were lots of bags of nasty "self-light" charcoal but not a single bag of natural lump hardwood charcoal. Lame. I recommend staying away from the hot prepared foods. If that's what you're into, try across the street at QFC. It's no 5-star restaurant but it might save you a nice pair of underwear. Again, the lines!
