This safeway is lacking in many ways. It's small, lacks variety, and has poor produce. Bonuses are the free parking and gas onsite. I get that this area is a rad area to do business and I can see why Safeway wants a foot in the market here, BUT any other Safeway I've frequented has provided better variety and quality in their produce. I've come here many times and found empty produce shelves, limited options for dry goods, and not a lot of meat. The Safeway up on 85th is larger and has more options for the conventional shopper. read more

Pretty ok, pretty cheap. Not nearly as good as Ballard Market, but when you need a deal it's the best place to look!

The beer selection isn't mind blowing, but the location is good and easy for access. I just have a bit of trouble with prices in comparison to other stores. read more

However, for myself, I have a son who's worked for two years at this location and another, he has personally strived to give continued courteous service. As for the comments of the other authors, I want to give another side to how difficult the grocery business can be and yet, those working try to give there best . Pharmacy - we took a friend of my GrandMom's to Fred Meyer to get a generic RX filled and they quoted her $84 without insurance (she has a high deductible but her insurance said it should only be $27 ) and she couldn't afford it. We asked them to check it since it seemed super high and if there was a cash discount but they said no sorry. We checked online GoodRX.com and CVS, Walgreens and Rite-Aid all quoted $81 to $94 but Safeway was only $24 for 30 for a month . So we called Safeway in Ballard and they ran the RX up over the phone and said it would only be under $24 and there is also a cash discount as well. They called Fred Meyer, got the RX transferred, then called us back to let us know they had it and it was filled within the hour. read more

Shop here for cheap toilettries, dry goods and gas, but walk right on by the produce aisle. Their organic section is pretty laughable and the produce of poor quality (go to Ballard Market for that). Twice, I've purchased bags of organic baby carrots and both times I've had to toss them because the they were rotten and soggy. The layout of the store is somewhat confusing and not intuitive, the underground parking garage is sketchy (and always empty) and there are frequently people hanging around the parking lot asking for "gas money" or change. I only stop here if it's convenient, otherwise I head to Ballard Market (which is more expensive) or drive up to the QFC on 85th. read more

This is my grocery store. I have been to many different ones before deciding to make this my regular stop. I find it to be reasonably priced, easy to traverse, and diverse enough to fit my needs. The checkout clerks are always really friendly, and I love the produce/meat people. Also, a lot of the Safeway branded items are quite tasty. My husband and I both like their diet cherry soda, and he does not typically go for diet soda. read more

I have always liked this store. It's close to my home, and very convenient for me to stop at on my way home from work. Today, however, I encountered a situation that was bothersome enough that I may consider not shopping there in the future. On my way in, I was approached by a pushy LA Fitness salesman. Now, there are a few reasons why I would never want to be a member of LA Fitness and one of them is their staff. He was aggressive and rude and did not want to take no for an answer. Does that approach ever really work? At least now I know that I'm right about never wanting to be a member there...especially since there are other nice clubs in the area who do not harass you or stalk you at the grocery store. read more

I don't know why this Safeway is so bad. Its so dirty, I bring my own wipes for the carts, elevator, check out line conveyer. Its horribly dirty, I can tell it's never wiped down, raw chicken juice on conveyer belt left to dry, or cross contaminate. Employees don't want to be there, it's obvious. I was checking out and a lady came out of the restroom, asking for toilet paper. The guy said it was not his job and refused to get her any. A lady was buying toilet paper and she kindly gave her some of hers. They wouldn't even get a manager. They act bothered if you ask where an item is, even though their isles are not clearly marked, or things are not where you would think they would be, like powdered sport drink mix is not in the sports drink isle. What? Its really unpleasant every time I go. The pharmacy people are very nice though. I won't mix them in that mess. Sorry Ballard Safeway, I hate to be mean, but you need an overhaul. read more

Total BS at this place I shopped here and i asked to use your bathroom and the clerk replied no it closes at 12 o'clock we'll damn its 11:59 and I cannot use your bathroom this is a bunch of crap. The only reason I waited till 11:59 to ask was because they were busy and look like they're understaffed . Next time I'll just piss on your floor and you'll think twice about letting your customers use the bathroom!!# read more

If I never had to step foot in this Safeway again I would be a happy girl but unfortunately my husband and I fill our prescriptions here. So once or twice a month I'm in here. There is so many things about this store that are unappealing to me. There always in a long line when we have to pick up our prescriptions and on several occasions they never refilled our prescriptions even when I called one or two days earlier to fill them. In the frozen selection at the end of one of the aisle they have clearance frozen food, have you ever looked at them before? They're expired, they're trying to sell expired food at a discounted price!! There isn't enough check out lines which result in waiting in line for way to long. The lines might be better since they got the self check out lines. I find the store to be dingy and gross. I would much rather drive a couple extra minutes down the road to Fred Meyers and shop there. read more

I went in to the Safeway at 1423 NW Market this am to get my cereal for the next 4 days. I buy those individual containers Kellogg's make in little bowls. I went up and down the isle 4 times. I finally found they moved them up to the VERY TOP SHELF OUT OF MY REACH. I am not too sure who the idiot was who decided to move the small individual containers out of reach but it was not a smart thing to do. I generally come in early in the am since I have to be at work early. The company I work for recently moved to the building behind Safeway. I do not appreciate having to hunt down someone to get my product for me. If this problem is not fixed I will be purchasing my cereal at QFC instead of Safeway. Thank you read more

poor selection, very nice cashier, not very clean

The underground parking is easy, enter on 14th street. This is a Super-Safeway so has bigger selection than most. Staff is friendly, pharmacy is great. Their O Organics brand is great. Yes, they are sometimes slow. Don't blame the store - blame the 8 apartment and condo buildings that have gone up recently within 4 blocks. I think they are still trying to figure out how to adequately staff it. And yes, the bathroom is gross. There are a lot of homeless in that part of Ballard. There is only so much you can do. read more

Bought 2 cases of beer yesterday. An old white employee at the winery department thought the items were being shoplifted, and profaned it to me. He grabbed my bag and took with him. I finished making my purchase at the cash register and needed help out to the car. The cashier stopped a bagger named "Dudley" and asked him if he would help. He just said no and kept on walking. Then the cashier pused my cart to several other cashiering areas and asked the baggers to help. Each one said no. It took 15 minutes to get someone to help me unload my cart into my car. All this time the people were waiting in the cashier line to pay. read more

I used to be quite fond of this place until recentley. On 3 seperate occasions I have gone in and shopped for close to an hour only to have my EBT card denied due to the EBT server being down. I obviously don't have cash that's why I'm using an EBT card. On each occasion I have been treated very rudely. Each time I have had to leave store empty handed. What a huge waste of time. An apology has never been offered and I was treated as if the situation was my fault for having an EBT card. One clerk went as far as saying " miss if you want these groceries you can wait till the server is up in about an hour". I will no longer shop here and advise the manager to get employees that understand the concept of customer service and to fix whatever server problems they have so people don't waste their time trying to buy groceries read more

I sit here and read alot of negative stuff. Don't bring your dog or pet into a place with food...oh i know you'll say my animal is clean, i don't buy it. I have seen people bring in their dog and watched from a distance as it peed on one of the floral displays...stupid owner oblivious of course! Yes horrible bathrooms, It is YOU the customer that trashes these. Have some respect when you use the restroom and don't trash it. I see people every day trash displays that i worked nice and hard to make them look nice. How hard is it to keep one, just one, employee at $9/hr on staff until 10pm to assist with bagging customer groceries for the one checkout cashier you have on staff at night. Please stop being so cheap at the expense of customer service and lost sales. You are my neighborhood store, but if the problem isn't fixed there is a Fred Meyer down the street. read more

this store's bakery sucks. as they all do. pay attention to the pricing: the product will read one price, usually the more expensive price, but the tag on the shelf reads another price (lower). and of course, when the cashier rings up the product, the more expensive price is charged. this is false advertising. i hate safeway. the safeway store in university district, and lynnwood off 196th also do this. read more
