In the beginning, I had a few bad experiences in the store but I feel like perhaps there has been an adjustment in leadership because the store's user experience has improved measurably for me. I'm not from the area, so I'm not familiar with how this Safeway compares to other local ones. When I went first thing in the morning, the produce was pretty well stocked. I noticed there wasn't very much prepared foods available. The bakery section is fine, but probably smaller than most that I've seen. I think it serves its purpose as a grocery store! read more

It's your favorite "p00 review" guy, back with another review! I would not $#!T here unless it's an emergency (it was). First of all, there's no toilet paper dispenser so somebody who works here decided single-serving Brawny paper-towels would be a good idea. Not only will that absolutely clog the pipes if it continues, but it's like wiping with sand-paper. Second, there were only a few sheets left. I took pity on the next person and left them one last sheet in case they needed it. I do not recommend this place for dropping off the kids at the pool unless you're getting ready to S#!T your pants and have no other choice. 1/5 would only p00 here again if I absolutely had to. read more

Beware, the posted closing time is NOT accurate. They will typically close earlier than 11pm, some times by 10-15 minutes or other times much more. Safeway management: If you are not going to stay open for your posted business hours then CHANGE the listed hours. Stop wasting your customers time, it's unprofessional, inconsiderate and rude. Also as a customer if you pay attention at checkout you will notice that sale prices or items don't ring up at the correct price at nearly every visit so you typically get ripped off. The app has a ton of bugs and often doesn't work while you are in the store because they have crappy wireless service. Even when the wireless and the app are working often the prices listed in the sales flyer aren't updated for the app. OR the sale prices on the tags in front of the products won't scan into the app (because again management hasn't updated it properly for the current sale) so again you aren't able to get the sale price without going through a bunch of bs with the staff who all seem pretty exhausted by all the issues with how this store is run. If I could afford to buy all my groceries at Ballard Market and PCC I would never step foot in this place again and I generally avoid it as much as possible. read more

Horrible customer service (except for the nice older gentleman who sometimes works nights). Frequently closes earlier than posted time. I was refused entry at 10:51 by the security guard- I politely asked if I could just use the BECU ATM which was mere inches away, right behind him (all I needed was the atm) and he said no. If you're going to close at 10:45 or whenever, please post that time instead of saying 11. Some of us work late. Look I get it, I've worked retail over half of my adult life and I know y'all want to close up and go home. But come on. Anyway I recommend Ballard Market (a block away) or Trader Joe's (down the street) or PCC (if you're rich) - all have way better food and won't harass you to leave the store (or refuse your entry) during posted open hours. read more

Never going back - the worst customer service Two times I have had by far the worst experiences I've had in any store anywhere. This is the last time I shop here. I don't wanna name names because honestly, I feel sorry for the guy and for the manager, they must really hate customers and theymust have a really hard day I know it's a hard being around the public,, this is obviously not the job he wants. Is this the worst Safeway in America? Probably! Same price-gouging and terrible service you get at all the other locations but this one comes with sides of truly nasty employees and gross incompetence. It's my neighborhood location and so I've been here enough times to say that this location is especially bad. What do I mean by "truly nasty employees"? Well, let me tell you 3 instances, all with different individuals, over the past several years that really sums it up: 1) Get out my ID to purchase alcohol at the self check out, guy comes over and says "No need for that ma'am! I can tell you're at least 50!" I was 29 at the time and certainly looked it (no fillers, wear plenty of sunscreen). 2) Bakery items were packaged in such a way that someone could open them, lick or otherwise tamper them, and then close the packaging right back up without anyone else knowing. I tried to tell customer service that this was an easy fix with placement of the sticker, am told it's not problem. Return to store months later, see obviously unhoused person reach into a box of cookies, put a bunch in his hoodie pocket, change his mind, and put them all right back in the box. Take box to customer service, explain situation, manager laughs at me and says "BULLSH**! No one would ever do something like that!" 3) See an elderly gentleman asked to show ID to purchase alcohol and now we're getting that gross incompetence too: apparently the ID had a small scratch on it that made it challenging to tell exactly what month he was born in. The year and all other details were perfectly legible. Employee tells him he can't sell alcohol without a valid ID. Customer says "I have an ID!" Employee snaps back "Well you can't even tell us when you're born!" Customer says "I know my birthdate just fine, thank you. My ID shows the year I was born and that's the most important part, isn't it? Also, look at me!" Employee says "Duh, you're clearly old enough to buy alcohol! But your brains are already all messed up, can't figure out when your birthday is. So I'm gonna refuse the sale for your own good." Customer: "Wow, that's rude!" Employee (biggest mock grin on his face now) says "Gee that's only the thousandth time I've heard that today! BYE BYE NOW!" I have an exhaustive amount of stories, and nearly every time I'm in now I witness a rude employee. I never ever want to come back to this Safeway but it's in walking distance. I could drive to a different grocery store, so I guess now I'm left to decide if I love the planet or my own sense of peace more. read more

Safeway makes it difficult to pay in cash! only one register takes cash and the customer service counter. All the self checkouts sit unused while line at the only checkout that takes cash 6 long, line 4 long at the service counter. Same self checkouts used to take cash! Now if you don't have plastic money its screw you wait in line. So my money went out the door! Make it hard for people to please the corporate overlords who went a slice of every sale. Never going back! Let this new business model help them fail. Literally everything they sell is cheaper elsewhere close! read more

This is my neighborhood Safeway and it's alright. Sometimes the self-check-out personnel get lost and we're all stuck waiting and sometimes they're right there on the spot. The selection is mostly pretty good, but last week they were completely out of the sparkling water that was on sale. Firstly, it wasn't even that late in the week for them to be cleaned out, secondly it wasn't even marked where it would be on the shelf. To top it off, it's the store brand product. What happened there. The parking lot is a bit tight and hard getting in and out of depending on the direction you're going. Still though, this Safeway looks pretty good, layout is good, gas station is directly next to it and the staff interactions I've had have all been pretty good. This Safeway is very convenient for me, like walkable convenient so even though it's just ok, that is a big help. read more

This review is just for Drive up and go only. They are incredible (in contrast to the lower Queen Anne location on 1st Ave which is horrible). They prepare your order super fast and are responsive when you call. Always spots when you drive up. And they bring out your order within a couple minutes. Amazing. This is my usual Safeway; I am quite used to it. Usually shop in the early morning when there is a solo checker, usually a Korean man who is always kind and affable. Today I had to delay going until midday. The store was busy but not crowded. Still, there was only one guy checking people out (in addition to the 'self service'). His name tag said he is Reddmond (yep, spelled that way). He may have been having a bad day or today might be his usual attitude. He was surly, talking over customers, sneering at them and their orders, basically hostile to one and all. I've never seen him before, and hope not to encounter him again. He should not be in a customer-facing job. Really jarring experience. read more

Unfortunately, this is my local Safeway. When I don't have time to go to a further location I am forced to shop here. Not only is the staff (mainly the main manager, I believe his name is Renton) incredibly rude, they are also impossible to find if you ever need assistance. Want to quickly speed through self check out? Good luck! Not once, but 4 times in the last month and a half have I had to wait 5+ minutes for the self check out attendant to "fix" my transaction. I know I will receive a, "we're sorry to hear you had a negative experience" BS response which seems to be the standard on the multiple bad reviews this Safeway has gotten. The Quest Diagnostics in this Safeway does NOT do Pre-Employment Drug Screens!!!! I went in on my day off expecting to get it done, but the technician working there explained they can only do it at their Renton location that is appointment only. They need to update their website. Didn't have bottles of milk smaller than 1/4 gallon. I just wanted a small personal bottle of milk to go with my doughnuts but they didn't have any. No small Lucerne bottles or even any Nesquik bottles. They had one type of protein chocolate milk and that was it. Grocery stores normally carry smaller bottles of milk and I checked every single refrigerator in the store and they didn't have any. The Safeway up 15th has these bottles. read more

And customer service is always really good at Safeway, most of the time. There is parking, but it is a busy location. With two bigs streets next to it. Customer service has slowly declined in the past year at this location. I drove in fairly close to closing time tonight, as I have someone ill at home and there were immediate needs. As I approached the door, two men were keeping guard and shouted at me " we close in two minutes, you need to get in and out in two minutes!!" I told them what I needed and that I would be as quick as I could. One of the men said, and I quote " we don't care what you need as long as you're out of here in two minutes. ". They didn't block my entry to the store, at least, but really? Safeway doesn't care what I need ? Maybe I need a new grocery store. read more

DO NOT ORDER DRIVE UP AND GO! This location is fairly dysfunctional Being pregnant, I used Safeway delivery without any issue at all about a week before this incident I'm about to tell. Super nice driver, everything on time and all that. I decide I would try to cut down on a service like that for them and try drive up and go. I figured I would make it skillet and go to the source. I arrived, talked to customer service desk as I didn't know how drive up and go worked, and was told the order was on the way. Just head out to the designated parking spots (there's I think 4 or 5.) I wait, fairly past pickup time now, and I call the drive up and go number and am told it's on the way. No problem, I'm waiting. But then still nothing. They're coming out to the few other cars I saw during this experience but not addressing me. Again, there was no surge of vehicles, it was only a few since things hadn't gone totally crazy yet with COVID. I call again and am told AGAIN it's about to come out. It never came out. I even in that conversation said I would be happy to just come in and buy my groceries at this point but they assured me it was literally about to come out. But then still nothing.... At this point, I see the manager and the original customer service person going to load up the car behind me that had arrived long after I had. I had to ask to please cancel my order, he assured me things were crazy and they were working on it. I said I had no problem with that and didn't realize it was so crazy for them but I really wanted to cancel and just go inside to buy my items. I had been waiting for nearly an hour. He asked the customer service person he was with about my order and she admits they are trying to locate my order. They have the list of ordered items but can't find my order. (What??? What does that even mean?) He asked "is it picked?" And she said yes so he asked her to grab it for me. He comes back a few minutes later with 2 bags. I knew that had to be wrong because my order was for about $75 of groceries. We looked and confirmed there was a number of things missing. I told him again this was not my full order and I really just wanted to cancel this. We had been waiting close to an hour at this point! He insisted I take the bags and assured us we wouldn't be charged because I hadn't signed anything. I did NOT want this! I told him many times but he put the bags in the trunk and just apologized and stated again how crazy things were for them. We had no idea, but we were happy to cancel that order from the start since there was clearly some issue that was outside their control! And much more complex than anyone knew at this point. I end up going to a different Safeway to buy the remaining items I still needed-- about $55 of groceries. Well surprise surprise, we got charged for that drive up and go order. (I thought they couldn't find my order?) Annoying but fixable, right? We call Safeway customer service and spend over an hour waiting to get to a person. She states it was canceled but for some reason never refunded. She processed the refund and said it would take 7-10 business days. It's now been over a month since this whole snafu and we have never received our refund. I am on hold with Safeway again won't an expected wait time of "over 76 minutes." I think part of the issue was that people might have started panic buying at that point? It was really unknown to the community the strain they were under that early on. But the way this entire thing was handled was insane. And to top it off that we were charged for all the things we didn't even get was super frustrating. So in all, I'm spending hours on fixing this situation even though I requested we cancel as soon as I felt I was being strung along....I still wonder how long I would've waited on that day for them to "find my order"? I just do not recommend the service or this location. They clearly thought they handled this correctly that day. Update: Got through time customer service and her confirmed I never should've been charged. He said that their first step is to contact the store but they never responded so it just sat in limbo without anyone doing anything about it until I called to inquire again. He has to escalate to his manager to approve the refund which, to their credit, was done same day. Finally received the refund over a month after this fiasco. read more

Good Lord. This Safeway feels more like a military base than a grocery store. I needed to wait for someone for several minutes at the front of the store. There were two large guys huddled together behind the Guest Services counter. Then another, even larger, started a loud conversation with them from 10 feet away. They seemed more interested in planning some military maneuver than noticing any customers nearby. No smiles, just tall, bulky, loud men. I felt intimidated. I've been going to this location for the last 10 years but today it the last time I will ever go in there again. I will be calling corporate as well to complain as well. The last 3 Mondays I have gone in there to buy a fried chicken breast and was told because of the 8pc dark meat special no breast, not sure why you can't buy this it has always been available before. I went to speak to management which was the worst experience I've ever had , he proceeded to school me about how white meat isn't part of the chicken special, I assure you I know this but was wondering why they were not available to buy, he explained (Reddmond) again not part of the special as I was walking away from a conversation in which he clearly saw nothing wrong with situation he yells out me that they could make one. Here's the reader's digest version: Ran in to use the potty (had to pee like a racehorse), ran to the back to find someone was in it. An employee of said store came by with mop and bucket in hand. Employee: "Crazy things happen in the bathroom sometimes, huh!" Me: "Um, yeah I guess so. (WTF dude?)" Employee: "See this mop and bucket? It's because some guy took a dump in the corner. I probably shouldn't have told you that." NUFF SAID. 2 STARS: Waiting in line while my checker is, um, checking me out, I see a guy by the donut case (which at this point was right next to the entrance by the Starbucks inside). I made the mistake (again) of going grocery shopping in Ballard during the Solstice Parade. I was getting cold and cranky and had been waiting 45 minutes for a cab when the woman that rang me up walked outside. She asked how long I'd been standing there and then OFFERED ME A RIDE HOME!!! I'm not kidding. It was not a short drive and she wouldn't take any money. In this day and age that is about as close to a miracle as you can get. Thanks Safeway Angel!! And now for something completely different: I have not been able to find the Safeway Select sea salt & pepper croutons on my past few trips, but the lightly seasoned ones are just as good. I am frequently able to get B1G1F deals on vitamins (near the pharmacy). Today I got blueberries for $1.99 and found a new brand of all natural chicken tortellini with like a quarter of the fat and calories as the Safeway Select brand but for the same price. I decided to try out the Safeways "Fresh & Fast for Pickup" at 8340 15th Ave NW Seattle, WA 98117. The idea is you send them a grocery list and they send a store associate to shop for you and bring the pre-paid and bagged groceries to your car. I thought this would be a great chance to reduce my impact during the virus and help keep the Safeway staff safe. The online shopping went smoothly and I made sure that when I was shopping I left the box that said I was ok with substitute brands unchecked. I only ordered 9 items, three of which had issues. the bagged lettuce I received turning to liquid. they changed the brand from Kikkoman soy sauce to Safeway select. one of my items never made it to me. so basically they gave me their produce that was no longer fit to sell, swapped out some items without my permission, and then decided one of the things was too difficult to locate so they weren't going to give it to me. this all wouldn't bother me so much, but it turns out they charged me for my original shopping list. avoid Fresh & Fast for Pickup at all costs. you'll end up having to go shopping in-store anyways after you realize Safeway messed up a third of your order. read more

Actually a decent Safeway with a nice selection of produce and meat. The organic selection can be limited at times, but overall we are content visiting this location. Bonus - they have a gas station. Biggest Bummer - Unsafe feel in the parking lot due to roaming homeless late at night. read more

Well, I waited a while to review this place (also saw it as mostly pointless.. (most Safeways are like any other) But here's some of the points I would like to illustrate. Keeping in mind this review was prompted by something more of a negative experience today. Firstly, most of the employees are quite friendly. The late night security guard knows that when I am in it's for a frozen pizza or more beer. The self-checkout guys are all friendly and sometimes joke about me when they are surprised about my age (when checking for alcohol).. the women seem a little grumpier. The way this store is organized is abysmal. Keeping the bacon and hotdogs with the eggs and cheese, but the meats on the opposite side of the store, and the milk? Who knows where to find it. It's just a cluster. It's not intuitive. They have a little bit of household items in the back, at least that's not mixed in with other stuff. The deli counter has a lot of different stuff, I like that. They have a good selection of premade salads etc, but if you want deli meat, be prepared to wait a while. Everytime I've gone there seem to be no employees OR they are at the opposite end helping people with quick lunches but are oblivious to anyone waiting and disappear into the back again. The self check out CC machines.. SUCK. I don't know how many times I've had to swipe then re-swipe, slower, faster.. they just don't work and bleep at me and show me angry symbols. It's not my card, it works perfectly everywhere else I've been. It's just this Safeway. Anyway. It's steps away from me, so I use it pretty often. But little improvements could go a long way. read more
