The logistics at this Sandy Safeway are an absolute joke. For three weeks in a row, our delivery orders have been a disaster. Today, they assigned an Uber driver who was new to the area and completely lost, who then cancelled the order mid-transit. When we called, Safeway's prehistoric tech didn't even show the cancellation, leaving us in limbo while the store offered a pathetic $5 credit for hours of wasted time and stress. The most frustrating part is that Safeway's broken system forces our delivery through this specific Sandy location with no option to switch fulfillment stores. We are officially done with Safeway delivery. We are switching to pickup only just to avoid the consistent incompetence and terrible customer service of the Sandy branch. If you value your time and actually want your groceries to show up at your door, look elsewhere. read more

This Safeway is quite large and seems to be clean and well-maintained with products organized on shelves. They've got a large parking lot just off the highway. There is a Starbucks inside. Options in Sandy are somewhat limited. In general Safeway's prices are higher than others so I try to shop their discounts and use online ordering / curbside pickup. read more

As a new resident in the area, I called the pharmacy to request an in-system prescription transfer from another location. The pharmacy technician immediately responded that this was not possible, stating that a new prescription would be required at the new location. When I asked for clarification on why this was the case and what steps I needed to take to have my prescription filled there, she curtly replied, "For the reason I just told you." Having gone through this process before, I found her response and attitude unnecessary. When I inquired again about the proper procedure, she seemed to backtrack and attempted to justify her reasoning. It was frustrating to encounter such resistance, especially when the information provided appeared inconsistent. If she was unsure of the process, she could have asked me to hold while seeking clarification rather than responding dismissively. I then asked if there was a specific time I should come in, to which she replied, "Anytime after 2 PM," mentioning that they close at 6 PM before abruptly ending the call. For the medication needed and to have this negative response could be very poor for any others in this situation. If it was not for me questioning, I could have got off the phone and be in a bad situation. While my previous experience at this location was positive, this interaction was disappointing. I understand that everyone has off days, but I hope this is not a recurring issue. Otherwise, I may need to consider taking my business elsewhere. read more

I ordered a cake for my parents 60th wedding anniversary from one of the books on the counter. I was expecting a beautiful cake but what I got was a plain sheet cake. So someone needs to do some better communication. I put the number of the cake on the paper and everything. It is supposed to cave filling in it but it is so thin. I stopped in here after a hike to get a kombucha and a little snack. The store was decorated nicely for fall and there was a pumpkin patch outside. Everything looked clean and tidy. There was a great kombucha selection and I tried a new flavor which is really refreshing! I also got fresh cut pineapple, which was really fresh and I tried a pumpkin spice Cliff bar-amazing! employee leo came over on an alert because i moved the creamer out of thr paper-sack to free standing on paid scale in self check out. leo safeway's employee & aggressive theft investigator then roughly went through the entire bag about 7 items to make sure they were rung up. and they were! seemed sorta intense but i kept scanning. then leo, at self check out , grabbed my cart, cashed my 120.00 order out and said he was re-ringing everything up. i was surprised as every single item i had bagged was rang up. every single thing! he insisted that i had a unrang pineapple and was very loud, embarrassing in front of numerous people. i cannot even put into words how horrible, degraded and targeted i felt. my friend also checking out said i work for safeway (because she does!) and my friend (me) would not steal anything. leo said well we will see... i ended up just walking out in tears because of the scene. listen safeway, your a big corporate monster, we all get it. but seriously i will make sure i never shop at your store. i will make sure my family & children dont shop at your store. and hey hopefully over the top, shoplifting detective leo gets to keep on harassing and degrading your customers while you sit there and do nothing... i mean really you have a real gem in that employee. and if his job at safeway doesn't work out, he can always see if there's a slot open in the nazi party for him to abuse people....because your business model eventually's going to bite you in the ass and i can't wait to watch you close down. either way though - the customer sensitivity and training program that you put leo through was a really epic job. what a complete piece of trash you have working for you. read more

My 13 year old daughter is a huge Walking Dead fan. With only 24 hours notice I contacted Camee in the bakery and sent her a picture of the cake I wanted with a classic scene from The Walking Dead on it. "Yeah, I can totally make that!" she told me. She ROCKED that cake. She spent time (I assume on her time off) checking Pinterest boards for other examples, and with 2 hours left till my daughter's birthday party contacted me to tell me it was ready. I was so impressed when I saw it, and my daughter loved it so much she didn't even want to cut into it. This is true customer service. With almost zero notice their baker put her heart and soul into a project to help make a 13 year old girl's birthday awesome. I would have gladly paid double, but the cake wasn't a penny more than any of their standard sheet cakes. I've consistently gotten this level of service from other people at this Safeway, like the time that Penny in customer service spent 20 minutes on the phone when the prepaid phone card I bought for my daughter did not work. She also went above and beyond. They may have long lines and be short staffed sometimes, but their employees care and will go out of their way for you. read more

Sandy Safeway might be one of the busier Safeways i have been in, at least compared to Troutdale. I like this one pretty much, but lines can get long when they get busy. I like the produce section, they have really expanded it over the past couple of years to include more ethnic choices. So, when I am playing Julia Childs, and in the middle of cooking and find I forgotten that ONE oddball fruit or veggie, I can skid in here sideways and grab that elusive ingredient. The prices are what keeps them from getting a much higher rating. The deli has some pretty good stuff on it, plus they have the sandwiches made to order, easy to grab it and go for lunch. Not bad to stop in here if you are on your way up the mountain, you can throw together an pretty decent picnic lunch. read more

I have been a Sandy Safeway customer since they opened. Had always had great experiences. The checkers were long time employees that got to know their customers. Now with the exception of a couple checkers service is totally impersonal and borderline rude with some of them. Stella is great! I stopped into the deli a few weeks ago and the clerk was sweeping the floor. She looked up and said I will be with you as soon as I finish here. It was a few of minutes, but she should have put the broom down and helped her customer. Other times I have been to the deli, they are so busy talking with each other that they are oblivious to the customer standing there. I also don't think that employees should discuss other employees, or there unhappiness with their managers where customers can hear it. It has happened several times. I've had the courtesy clerks make snarky comments to me when I leave the cart on the sidewalk near the front door. The bathroom is horrendous, not kept up at all. There was a time that Safeway employee's would say hello, or ask you if you were finding what you needed. Not anymore, the checkers will not even look or smile as they go by. At times I do make eye contact with an employee as we walk through the store, and they rarely even smile. I miss the small town feel of Sandy Safeway read more

It's true about the 8 lanes, 2 checkers, long lines, higher prices, inferior meat department. I prefer Freddie's for my normal shopping. But what I do go in here sometimes for is the deli. Fresh hand made sandwiches, the best being the grilled turkey and Havarti with garlic spread on Panini bread. You can get a self serve soup to go with it for a dollar more. I like the baked potato or the chili. But pass if it's not at least 3/4 full and fresh. It goes south very quickly when low, forms a thick skin, and burns on the bottom. They need to pay closer attention to out with the old, in with the new. They have a better Italian sub than SW, but who doesn't? read more

Well I been trying to cash a check for weeks there and the answer is always the same we don't have the funds available. Why offer the services if you can't provide then?? It's not even that big of a check either it's hard to believe a big store like Safeway always doesn't have the funds. I'll try elsewhere. If any of you plan on doing check cashing there I would advise you to not waste your time unless your check is under 100 dollars then maybe. Sometimes they will tell you over the phone if they have the funds other times they will say that can't say how much it's against their policy. So your taking a gamble going there. read more

Today went to Sandy Safeway and noticed the Girl Scout table was outside. It is literally freezing - light snow. Girls huddled together. Excuse is that they don't have as much room in their entry as other stores (like Fred Meyer and they have them inside). Okay that is true. But what about some human compassion? As you walk inside to the left there is a large flower section with NO ONE there - usually empty except around flower holidays like Valentine's Day. A small table would not have been an intrusion. I try to patronize this business as often as I can in opposition to Freddies who overcharges everything for two reasons - 1) to then lower the price claiming it's on 'sale,' and 2) to cover the cost of their 'lowered' gas price promotion. The ONLY issue I have with Safeway, is the ridiculously over-priced cat food. Other than that, I find their vegetables fresher, more varied, better priced, and yet even more important to me, their availability of vegetarian products. They also have a Wells Fargo branch inside which I find WAY more useful than having to drive to Gresham. All in all, I'm glad to have them as a choice - I like choices. read more

I have never been the biggest fan of my local Safeway, not by choice. I prefer Fred Meyers do to their fresher meat department, the updated selection on food products, better prices, and faster check out stands. However my experience with their Starbucks has been great and the Wells Fargo customer service gals and guys are awesome!! Finally the "BAKERY" they have all been great but I have to mention one, ONE of a kind "Camee" that made the most beautiful BabyShower for my daughter! I showed her a picture I saw on Pinterest and a few ideas I had in mind, nothing they had on their catalog. The whole entire time we were talking she had the biggest pretties, genuinely smile, and she knew exactly what I wanted more than I did! Main reasons: higher prices than most other stores in Sandy, less selection, Insanely rude employees, and ridiculously long lines because of lack of registers being open. Produce department is decent rarely-when there aren't swarms of fruit flies-gross. Don't go here unless you HAVE to. Save yourself the headache and the $$. read more

Two lanes were open, with lines into the aisles, manned by cashiers who have got to be the slowest this side of the Mississippi. Went to the register in the deli. No one there. Just one customer. Waiting. I have no idea why Safeway/Albertsons got rid of their most efficient employees (the U-Scans). I ended up just going to Fred Meyer. Does this store go out of its way to make customers wait for ages in long, glacial lines? If someone played a trick on whoever it is that manages this store and said: "People LOVE to wait! That's the secret to operating a great grocery store.", then someone else needs to inform him or her that people really don't get excited from standing around, waiting to pay. As God is my witness, EVERY TIME I enter this store to buy a few items there are only 1 or 2 checkers working. Only when they notice a gaggle of waiting customers do they pick up the phone and call another to open a new line. Then it seems like another 5 minutes is wasted while the called checker meanders up front from wherever he or she had previously been hiding. Oh, and Samantha is certainly correct about their prices. That must be another lie that was told to someone high up at Safeway: "Charge higher prices for the same stuff AND make 'em wait... A winning combination!" I very seldom venture into this store - it is very close to my business though and sometimes I'd rather not drive down the highway to Fred Meyers. Although, were I to time it I'd likely find it is faster to crawl to FM'ers and back than it is to run to Safeway and then wait like a lemming. Safeway sucks. read more

SAY NO TO THE DELI!!!!!! I asked for two pounds of fresh sliced cheese and after a moment or two, I was handed five partially wrapped packages of that particular cheese (Muenster)....and told "It was cut and wrapped yesterday"....when I got home, I looked more closely at the labels...and most of it had been cut and wrapped 6 and 7 weeks prior!!! I also had bad fried chicken from that deli!!! Their prices are high, and when I ask for a premium item, I expect to get that fresh and premium item. They've lost my business ETERNALLY. I did go back to the store and return the cheese and get a refund. No more business from me ever! read more

This review is on the cheap management of this store. Went on a Friday to take advantage of their Friday specials and waited a tad over 15 minutes in line. No exaggeration. They were busy and had several open registers but no one to man them. So you wait and wait and wait. Has nothing to do with the employees who do the best they can but management who are too cheap to hire that extra one of two people to man the registers. TIP: Go to Fred Meyer in Sandy. I have mixed reviews of this local grocer. The produce does not always appear to be fresh. And safeways prices are MUCH to high.

As a senior citizen who uses the mobility scooter-carts I am dismayed and disgusted at the lack of any decent accommodation for housing. charging and re-parking the scooters. They are crammed in so badly, since the great remodel, that only an agile child could get in one to drive it out into the aisle. Usually, they are sitting with dead batteries. Probably because no one can reach the plug-ins to charge them. Also they are dead in the early AM which means the workers there did not see fit to plug them in over night, either. Also, to add to the insult to people with mobility issues, they have seen fit to put the day-old bakery goods up on a shelf above a bunch of fire wood, and out of reach of anyone less that 6 feet tall, let alone an old person in a scooter. i have long shopped Safeway on Fridays for the coupon deals and I always check the mark-down stuff. A lot of us seniors are also low income and we need to be able to see what is in the mark-downs. Wake up, Safeway!! Your "rival" is not all that far on down the road and they have lots of fully charged scooters. The only reason I am even giving you one star is because the baked goods and coupon deals are great...... WHEN I can get to them. read more

This Safeway pharmacy is the WORST pharmacy. Avoid at all costs if you can. We were happy with Walgreens until our insurance discontinued their contact with them. Safeway NEVER has my prescription ready in a timely fashion. Not talking an hour or so, today it was called in six hours prior to the time I went to pick it up. I was asked to wait 30minutes (uhm, NO!!!). Then I asked if they knew anything about a pediatric probiotic, the clerk didn't know so she went to ask the pharmacist who gave an awesome "uhhh, I don't know, there might be some over there." Over where? Who knows. I'll be finding somewhere ANYWHERE else to go. Not the first time they've had terrible service, but its the last time I'll take my business there!!! ((UPDATE: My husband went back this morning to pick up the same prescription that would "be ready in 30 minutes" last night. Guess what - STILL NOT READY!!!!!!!! Maybe you need to stand over them while you have prescriptions filled? Lady said the shipment hadn't come in today... Not sure how that is true since they were willing to do it while I waited last night? They are completely worthless. Called Fred Meyer, they had it done in 15minutes. read more

PHARMACY IS NOT RELIABLE! I've Been a loyal customer since 98 but I've had it with this pharmacy. It was great until the last couple of years after a (upgrade?) to the phone system where you place your refill order. The bottom line is they are not reliable. They were not open this morning when they were supposed to be which is unacceptable to me - customer lost. I have tried giving them a chance to improve as I've had several occasions where I've been notified (via phone system) my med were ready for pickup only to show up and be told I would have to wait for the prescription to be filled - when you set an expectation with the customer and it's not met the customer has every right to be upset. In fairness the pharmacists that work there are very helpful. However, you can have the best pharmacists in the world and still provide unreliable customer service. I need a pharmacy I can rely on to be open when the say they will be open and will have my prescriptions ready when they say they are ready - if you feel the same I would recommend avoiding this pharmacy. read more
