I was very disappointed in my grocery delivery. First my delivery window was 12-1 . They said they would let me know when on their way. One pm rolled around no call no food. At 1:30 I emailed to ask. No reply. Finally the driver got here and he was very polite. Best part of whole experience. They totally forgot all my frozen items. But listed as received. I called to report what was missing and that they charged me twice for an item. I finally made it clear what was missing. For a correct refund as they emailed me wanting to only refund overcharge and my delivery fee. I tried to go back in and reorder the 6-7 items they forgot and it gave me a error message to try again later. I am through, this is not new (delivery) to Safeway they have been doing it a while. Not recommending it to anyone. I am disabled and struggle going to the store. I get a refund in 3-5 days and still no food. Sad... I will not go back. One huge nightmare! read more

They have a very efficient Asian guy operating the service counter and the Western Union has been operational three times in a row! He also is the fasted cash register operator I have seen! Update: Why Josh? Josh is normally an efficient checker, and not surely. It was late and he proved that not all big guys are jolly! I was leaving the store and I decided to get a scratcher. I put 4 dollars in expected to get two 2 dollar scratchers, and only 2 choices out of 20 were available, 3 dollar and 5. I didnt want to put two more dollars in, and noticed that it said no refunds. Safeway's service has suffered recently, but, I still hoped it could assist me. I ask Josh who was manning the self-check kiosk for some assistance. He said, "well it does say no refunds, but, I will call someone." What? Either tell me you will help or tell me to pound salt, but don't lecture me, I have a wife for that! They gave me my dollar, and decided not to tell the manager about the surly behavior of a veteran employee. Lighten up Josh! read more

This Safeway is a huge disappointment. I had one person in front of me in the deli department to have a sandwich made. I was waiting for 20 minutes. They only had one sandwich made. There were 4 people working in the deli department. 3 of which were just standing behind the counter laughing and screwing off. They tried to clean up the store, but it is cluttered and dirty still. Produce wasn't fresh, and lots of empty shelves. Which should not be the case at NOON on a Saturday. read more

One star for usually having the things I need, but don't expect any customer service here. Service usually ranges from none to absolutely not helpful. Nobody at self checkout to provide assistance (probably can get away with scanning half your groceries and they wouldn't know it). When I finally saw somebody they told me they were on break and wasn't going to help me. Awesome. Asked a cashier and she looked a bit pissed when I asked if she can call somebody to help me. I would do it myself but there wasn't a button I could push myself was there? Although the best was when a glass jar of spaghetti sauce dropped and glass was all over the floor. When I informed the staff "oh we know we heard it" and they continued chatting. Potential lawsuit anyone? All safeways and vons and grocery chains are the same. Luckily, I've never received memorably terrible service; If you're not a people person, go to the self-checkout. Nobody here is ever particularly rude though some cashiers ought to cheer up a bit. This review is specifically for this lady at customer service that helped me awhile ago. I wanted to get a large sum of money by Western Union to reserve a spot for living abroad. She might not be all smiley and all but like a mother figure, she warned me and made sure I was listening when she told me that a lot of people get scammed over Western Union. I knew that but never knew I would be so close to it but she told me to go home and research it, come back and she'd be happy to take my order. I went home and sure enough, the scammer alert was everywhere on google and I felt SO dumb but this lady from Safeway who doesn't seem like she loves her job just saved me $1700. I am so truly grateful for her and don't care what service attitude I received, THAT WAS THE BEST ETHICAL WORKER EVER. Thanks lady. Still giving this place one star. When I wrote the previous review, I was contacted by a member of the Twitter team that this would be fixed. It was not. I went in to order a cake, I know I said I wouldn't return but I had to. So I approached the bakery line, there were two employees working on whatever they were working on. One looked right at me, but continued to ignore me. The other walked away from me. After a few minutes of waiting (no line by the way), I finally got the attention from the older lady who had originally walked away from me. She looked annoyed that she had to help me, but asked what I needed. I asked the price of a full sheet cake, she mumbled a price and I repeated what I heard $9.99 (which I knew was wrong) and she snapped back "NO, I said $59.99!" Awful response to a customer just asking a question, I don't know maybe it was how I was dressed (just coming from the gym) or what not but I felt like my business was not welcomed. She explained what they had and the rest of the conversation was ok, but the first response from her really turned me off to doing business again, so I decided to go else where for my cake. Again, I thought that the customer service issues would be addressed nearly 5 months ago when I last came here. Reading the other reviews, they also need to hire more people if the employees now are so into what they are doing in front of them and not helping customers. I really hope they get things fixed at this Safeway because it is not fair for this community to be subjected to such horrible service. read more

This Safeway is conveniently located off the I-880 and Washington Avenue exit, though I wouldn't exactly say it's easy at first to find in this somewhat large shopping plaza. Yes, there is a Starbucks and the lines can get kind of long at times. Otherwise, this has your standard departments and groceries. This review is for CAFE SELECT. The best sandwiches hands down. The grocery stores sells 100% of the items found on the menu, it was a genius idea to open a sandwich line. All of the items are ALWAYS fresh, and they actually use REAL chicken, (not processed like subway) and the bread is actually bread and will not make you sick (subway). I highly recommend anyone trying one, (actually that would make my wait time longer if I tell you this) But in all honesty, the best sandwiches in town. Hands down! read more

Since all the pandemic started, they always made sure those carts are all wiped down and clean, the lady guards are doing a great job in handling in and outs. I wanted to like this Safeway. It's bigger than the one in my neighborhood, and the parking lot seems fine enough. Any time a Safeway has a Starbucks in it, I assume it's slightly more upscale. In this case, I was sorely disappointed. While this location has a solid collection of random items (bananas in droves, unlike many other Safeways), they were also out of a lot of things too (rotini pasta and fresh sourdough bread). While it could have just been an off day, I figured those items aren't that popular, and at around 1pm on a Sunday, it's not like I was going at the end of the day. I'd probably avoid this location in the future, and only go here if I'm in the area. read more

This is the Safeway inside of Greenhouse shopping center. It's pretty much the same as most of the other remodeled Safeways and it also has a Starbucks inside. The Foodmaxx is just around the corner from here. If I don't find what I'm looking for at Foodmaxx, I normally come here. The location of this is good too since there's a lot of restaurants near here (McDonalds, Jack In The Box, and Hometown Buffett) and also the CVS and a 99 Cent Store in the same center. read more

This is my trusty Safeway location. Been going here for years. Fresh produce, good quality meats, always in stock. I've never really had a problem, but my semi-complaint would be that at night time, sometimes the lines get long because there doesn't seem to be many checkers working. I prefer going to this Safeway rather than the one closest to my residence because that one is "ghetto". read more

I agree that this Safeway seems to have gotten worse over the years. At least parking's still easy. Their customer service doesn't seem as helpful as it used to, and the staff is generally not as friendly as it used to be. And I fully realize that the deli is not supposed to be the fastest thing on earth, but it always seems that they're training new people and there's always a lot of miscommunication, despite the fact that I order the same thing every time. The good... Most of the time things are in stock. Most of the time people are really nice here. The bad... They price gouge! Just for an example, vitamin C for a two month supply thousand milligrams is $40! Everywhere else for that same amount is like $20. So check your receipts, do your research. Take pictures of prices that are extremely high and report this place because I am! Plus they will charge you for a bag when you told them you didn't want a bag. read more

We stopped by the Safeway on Lewelling Blvd in San Leandro a few weekends ago for a late night snack so that we had something to munch on back in our hotel room. For late night and most of the shops around there already closed the parking lot area was still pretty busy and looked kind of shady. Inside, the store was well stocked and clean like the Safeways we'd find back at home. I have had the worst experience at this Safeway. Went I to get a sandwich I ordered my sandwich and they told me that they were out of grilled chicken not a big deal change my sandwich roast beef on sliced sourdough. oh we don't have any sliced sourdough here let me go run and get some wait wait wait wait wait wait she comes back with potato bread and I said oh I want to sliced sour dough. Oh we don't have any of that...... I have a food allergy so this the only bread I can eat. I leave the deli and I'm able to find something that I can eat I then go to check out through the self checkout and I stand in line a register becomes open I put my stuff down and I reach into the refrigerator between the to check the cash registers and to get a soda and it is HOT HOT HOT. I really like going to this Safeway. I will stop in on my way to work and grab a coffee at the Starbuck's inside sometimes. I also like the DVD Rental kiosk they have inside. They have all the current movies and they are only $1.49 a day. They usually have a special for $.99 a day once a month for a few days. Whenever there is a special occasion and I want to buy flowers I come here. They have a nice assortment of roses and other flowers. They are @ $12 a dozen or something like that. They will even arrange them and add the babies breath stuff at the customer service booth for you. They are a lot better quality then the roses from Costco. read more

I ordered shrimps online to be pick up at this store. The shrimp is buy one get one free and totaling $34.35 when I got to the store my total went up to $121.24. I asked the clerk why my total went up so high. She told me they didn't have the items I ordered so they substituted the items. The store clerk told me to call the online number a guy name Emanuel answered the phone and he said he can't do anything, he can only cancel the transaction, and he will not give me the product for $34.35. It was my first time ordering online, their website does not give you an alert that they don't have the product or doesn't give you an alert if you want substitute. Whatever you order it will go through even the products are not available. They will substitute your items and you will find out the actual total amount when you pick up your order or when transaction completed. Very bad experience I don't trust them. Anyway, i am buying 3 prepackaged gift basket unfortunately it has wrong tags so I asked her politely if she can scan it first and was trying to show the original price and the discounted price of 50% off this bitchy MIA just started giving attitude and told me that I was talking crap and why do i have to keep looking on the monitor i am like i am paying for the items idiot and i hope someone will give you 10x worse attitude you have showed me... first of all why so paranoid??? you idiot i don't care about you i care about on what i am buying and my sis in law and I was just talking about what a great deal we are getting and you giving me that attitude is not acceptable... In most cities I prefer Safeway to Lucky's but not in San Leandro! Where to begin.... 1) Rarely enough checkouts open during busy times (tells you something that staff "didn't show up for work"). 2) Never, I mean never, have all the ingredients on hand for their signature deli sandwiches. 3) Checkout process often requires accepting/declining a charitable donation. Also held up waiting for cashier to find your name on the receipt and trying to pronounce it. 4) Final gripe: too often there are price discrepancies on the receipt and you have to go to customer service ... no apologies; they're used to it. Lucky's near Bay Fair is surprisingly better, but better yet, go to Safeway in Castro Valley. Why don't we have a Trader Joe's?! read more

During Covid-19 Safeway has taken extra steps to make customers feel safer. Carts are disinfected before entering the store by 2 Safeway employees who are very efficient and helpful. This store is always clean and cashiers are always friendly. Brian, a long time bagger at this store, is my favorite but they are all great. read more
