This pertains to $5. Friday and 8 pc roasted chicken purchase in the deli. They had one person working and a long line. Stood in line for about 15 minutes and was told that they were out of what I wanted and it would be ready in 65 minutes but they could give me all 8 pc drumsticks. Without checking I said okay and they were the driest, totally overdone pieces I've ever tried to choke down! I threw most of them away and won't go back to this deli. So I stop here right after work. I walk towards door and there's a young lady with glasses and light brown hair short in height by the carts. Demanded to see my receipt . Keep in mind I go to a local Safeway all the time very familiar with me. After demanding my receipt he called security than told him to call the police. I told him when the police come and he realized i did not take anything he would than have to give all my money back they both stood there for a while kept talking about calling police I waited no police was called I called the police department no they never called my family ate dinner late tonight because of this people are messed up in this world I should not have been treated like that. I generally like going here as opposed to Safeway down the street on Washington because it's less busy. With that said, shopping here can be very frustrating. So I'm here to warn you: - Check your receipts! Make sure the balance charged is correct. - Check the product and label before purchasing! Why you may ask? Because they: (1) have cashiers that don't scan, or incorrectly scan coupons and items. (2) have stockers who stock the wrong items on the wrong shelves I hate to name names, but I guess sometimes in life, the way you get things corrected and people recognized is through names. I had a negative experience with my cashier Lolita, because of lack of attention to details when checking out my items. She scanned my items and negated the coupons on them. When I informed her, she said nothing and took the coupons and swiped them across the machine, and deposited the coupons. The coupons never registered! She didn't seem to care for her job, which I understand she may just be having a bad day. However, how can you swipe a coupon and not see it didn't register. On the contrary, I did have a great experience with the cashier Daniel! I wish I had just lined up for his register instead. He greeted nicely when I presented my issue with my receipt to him. He was quick to respond and process the return in which I appreciated, and even apologized(even though it's not his fault at all!). This review is strictly pertaining to the deli department and how my sandwich experience went. It didn't go well. This pak n save has been my least favorite experience thus far. My sandwich was made without any love in regards to costumer service. It did not contain everything I asked for. The employee making my sandwich must of been having a horrible day because my sandwich looked a bit bullied and thrown together. I asked for everything except peppers on my sandwich. And I am usually never dissatisfied however, this sandwich had many flaws. He put goops of mayo on it, no mustard at all, he put one thin old tomato slice on, barely any onions, the lettuce was past welted and he did not even cut my sandwich in half. *Note this is a COVID update.* Pak 'N Save is Safeway's discount grocery store. You can use your Safeway Club Card here to get the noted savings. When you enter the store, there are carts and baskets inside (no need to bring any carts from outside). They've removed several of the produce display sections, so that area isn't so crowded. The produce is always fresh, though there are not as many varieties as a regular supermarket. Same with the meat department: lots in stock, but not as many different cuts available. Generally, you sacrifice the variety of options for the lower savings by shopping here. If you are looking for random hard-to-find items, you're better going to a traditional supermarket. But if price is more important, this is a great place to shop. The staff are all wearing masks. And social distancing is enforced in the check-out lanes. If the store is busy, there is one single line in the middle of the store that filters into all the check-out lanes. Also, this is a "bag your own goods" place, so using your own reusable grocery bags is encouraged. read more

I've only gone here for the DMV kiosk. No lines compared with other Safeway locaitons (Alameda adn downtown Hayward). I like that you can wait last minute and not have to rely on the post office to get your stickers. Security guard pointed me to the kiosk. I had just come from downtown Hayward where one person was holding up the line for 20 minutes I think because of some language or written language issue. I noticed the lines at the registers were open and empty. I chose not to tour the store - my mind is already scrambled enough from frequenting multiple other stores all with varied and random crazy floor plans that I can never remember.... I have been buying the "Susan fruit cookie" from this store for years. It has been upgrading the quality to international standard over the year. The best was the Tiramisu. It was just slightly sweet & was so much better than that Americanized Olive Garden. I have been recommending that to my friends. Last week I bought one, it has became much sweeter. Today I bought a box of "Susan fruit cookies". Jesus! It is so American sweet, that I have to through it away. The after taste is so unbearable. This is my go-to local big brand grocery store, so I come here on the late late-night runs for munchies or for my really bad sweet cravings every so often. I don't really get produce here as I love my neighborhood Asian market's fresh produce, but I come here for the deli foods, prepared hot foods, and deli salads. However, I have to say I am not impressed by their prepared salads. My go-to Safeway (because Pak-n-Save is sisters with Safeway) sun-dried tomato bowtie pasta salad always looks old, dried out, and you can see the mayonnaise or oil has gone bad on the edges! Not good, people. Not good. So, I do tend to avoid getting prepared deli salads at this location, unfortunately. My spot for late-night munchies and certain specific baking needs, though! read more

The CS here is non-existent, especially with the younger cashiers, they don't even greet you, don't ask if you need bags etc. Its like you're invisible. I am lowering my rating to one starfor the atrocious lack of employees wearing masks. Security guard has his under his chin, it is his job to make sure that people are wearing the masks before they go into the store. Employees wearing them under their noses or even under their chins. Vendors putting food out without masks, People preparing food not wearing masks. They are putting the publics health at risk and breaking the law. I will be calling the health department. There is absolutely no excuse for this, I will be taking my money to Trader Joe's in Castro Valley from now on. The Safeway on Washington is equally as bad. Really outdated interior of this Pak n' Save Foods location (which is part of Safeway brands). It reminds me of what the majority of the Safeway stores used to look like years ago. I was still able to find what I needed. This place could definitely use a renovation. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their products were expired based on how they are stored and arranged. Service is okay, though as the other Yelpers point out, it can be hit or miss depending on when you go. I didn't have any issues at all. However based on how the registers are designed and set up, you will have to bag your own groceries. Parking seems to be plentiful. read more

Racist security, my sister and nephews were peacefully buying pumpkins and when I looked back I saw the security behind me and watching me like a dog, like if we were going to steal some pumpkins. After we left the store, he moved from where he was. The reasons why I shop here: 1) It's close 2) Parking Lot is not busy 3) Wide aisles I hate crowds, and this supermarket only gets crowded around the check-out lines. I don't have to circle around to find parking. Other shoppers have mentioned that with large number of items purchased, packing them can be tedious. Do enlist friends/family along for the shopping trip. My only gripe, and it's a major one, is that there are plenty of expired products on the shelves. I was so close to purchasing old ricotta (one tub from APRIL!). Some products that don't sell as well are at risk of this. The staff needs to check their diary regularly! A tad bit cheaper than Safeway with just about the same products. In the same shopping center as DD's discounts and a 24 hour fitness gym (formerly Bally's). You bag your own groceries here, no courtesy clerks like regular Safeway's. The lines in here were OFF the chain, I mean people were lined up from the register back into the frozen section- it was a little ridiculous considering the overwhelmed and grumpy cashier called for backup 3 different times to no avail. Bring your own bags, the flimsy paper bags you pay .10 for will bust wide open when you least expect it. Reusable bags are sold here for around $1.50 per cashier. You can use your Safeway rewards card to take off any extra discounts available. I would assume it's probably best to shop here in the early AM to avoid the crowd or the backup of customers. read more
