Love the grocery hauls at TJ Everything is fresh and reasonable Staff are friendly Love the freshly foods and flowers. They always have something for everyone. Glad they have the strawberry soufflé available. So light and delicious

Love that they have frozen Indian food that I can stock in my freezer for when the craving hits and I don't want to go outside to a restaurant. The serving sizes are also perfect for taking for lunch. Particular favorites are Chicken Tikka Masala, Vindaloo, Garlic naan (not the perfect texture, but in a pinch :)) and Butter Chicken. They have a slew of products that I won't list, but good quality food for decent products. I do miss the chocolate covered orange and raspberry they used to have, but their dark chocolate peanut butter cups are 2nd best. Here's What I Think...I'll be back next week to try the Pumpkin dog treats if the ingredients are safe for my pooches.

4/20/25 Happy Easter. My daughter's pancakes, see picture of my pancakes.

4/13/25 - Had an amazing tiramisu from ZoZo's in Reno, and my daughter and I decided to make one! See other review. And she volunteered her expensive good dark rum! I'm so excited! Quality/Quantity - 4/18/25 - Today is Good Friday. Rushed over here before they closed. The employees were working hard to restock the store for tomorrow's business, which was crazy busy today. Unfortunately for me, they did not have 2 of the 3 items I needed... So I was only able to get the cocoa powder. Walmart (another failure, and also crazy busy) and Safeway, here I come. 4/20/25 - Happy Easter everyone, see my pictures for our TJ Easter brunch. :) Atmosphere - Love the local art, see pictures. Plenty of parking, but again, it was crazy busy today 4/18 and on Easter Sunday 4/20. Open 7 days a week from 8am to 9pm. Service - Self service, checkout has always been smooth and easy. Price - $4 for my cocoa powder + whatever my wife bought. I did not even look. $25ish for all my Easter brunch ingredients. Plus we got empanadas ($45) from next door Pampas; see other Yelp review. Owner Comment - Congrats on your company's success since 1967 (1958 if you count Pronto Markets). 1979 - Sold to Theo Albrecht, owner of Aldi Nord. 2024 - 569 stores.

This review is for the people that shop here Like CHILL OUT omg I don't think I'll come back to this location because it's so small and the type of shopping culture here it's low key insane Chill out !! It's not a race ( or if it is let me know so I can be prepared) There is no common sense or shopping courtesy People are running around on a THURSDAY @ 6pm for no reason

Trader Joe's has a creative way to promote their products within their store. I love how they design their signage and their pricing is generally reasonable for quality goods compared to other grocery stores. Located in Castro Valley, you're sure to find it's parking lot packed on weeknights with the after-work crowd and weekends for families making their shopping runs. Be patient when waiting for a parking space because there is no street parking. This location is a bit smaller than other TJ's, but it's the closest one to service the East Bay. Lately there's been viral videos about specific TJ products such as the Kimbap (12 piece Korean maki sushi roll - $3.99) and the mini chocolate chip croissant swirls (8 pieces - $3.99), both are available at this location if you're on a mission to find them! I picked them up recently when they were restocking on a Friday evening. They limit the Kimbap to two per customer. A few things to note if you're still questioning whether to visit this location - the staff are helpful and friendly and generally operate quickly at the check-out counters. Sometimes TJ's has samples - come by and check it out :) Happy shopping!

I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!

On the way into the store, I grabbed a shopping cart from a cart corral in the parking lot. Following behind another customer and her children, we found that the southernmost doors to the store were locked. No signage, just locked with customers inside. I knew they did this at night, after dark, but at 5:15 with bright sunlight outside? So we had to walk across the front of the store to the northern entrance. I was on a mission. One of my groups was having a potluck and I was going to bring something that no one had ever brought before. Ice cream! But to make it easy, no scooping, just sandwiches, drumsticks and fudge bars. It can be a crap shoot when buying ice cream from a supermarket. You don't know how well the ice cream has been handled. While the carton might feel solid, there's no way to tell if the ice cream has gone through temperature cycles. I did my best to make sure that the cartons that I chose felt solid. Pasteboard will often show signs of temperature deviations. I put them in my cart and rushed up to the checkstands. I got into a 15-items or less line with one customer being checked out and one other customer in front of me. Remember, all I have is ice cream. And of course, the first customer had questions that required the assistance of customer service. We finally got checked out and before I walked away, I asked the cashier if the south exit doors were locked as well. And she didn't know. According to her, whoever makes the decision just does it and doesn't inform staff. Maybe she's correct, maybe she isn't. I know that when I'm in a management or supervisory role, I always make it a point to let me staff know how to answer questions that customers might ask. Door locking should be set as policy with specific times on signage so the customers are aware. With consistency, customers with mobility issues will know which side of the parking lot they should park on. Ever since Safeway no longer owned Safeway (it's owned by Albertson's), customer service has practically disappeared. And I don't blame the employees, scheduling and training come from the top down. Yes, margins in the grocery industry are quite tough (I've worked in it), but squeezed margins when combined with decreasing customer satisfaction are a formula for disaster. And please, Safeway Customer Service, do not respond to my comments by asking me to fill out a form for more clarity so you can properly address my complaints. That's just creating more work for me. My comments are clear. Invest in some secret shopper reports to see what we, your customers, see and experience. Then make an investment to fix the problems.

Note, this is more of a review of the taqueria attached to the market and not the market itself, though it looked like it had all the essentials. Meat wise, it's definitely missing my favorites but in this case, it's actually a good thing because it means I'll order things I dont normally order as much. I went with a chivo (goat meat) taco and a super carne asada (grilled steak) burrito. I also picked up a bag of chicharron con carne (pork cracklings with meat) and a side of refried beans. They lady that took care of me was super nice. I love places like this because it gives me a chance to practice my Spanish. What's so awesome about this place is that they are grilling the meats right in front of you, which makes me want to order everything. I took everything home to the family they all loved it. The steak was super juicy and it might be one of the better carne asada I had. Everything tasted super fresh. The chivo taco was very moist and delicious as well. As for the chicharrons, it's chicharrons, it's almost always going to be good and the beans, were delicious as well, wish I ordered some arroz on the side to go with it. Over the years, it's been a place where I have positive memories, as it carried my wife and me through tough days back in college. This was, and still is, a great and affordable meal that acts as both lunch and dinner due to how generous the portion is. The only caveat I have since trying the location after a few years of not stopping by is that they changed their French fries. I think right now they cut potatoes and deep-fry them, versus what it was before, where they were more "restaurant style" fries. The texture is slightly different; however, the flavor has been consistent and still tastes like what it was 10 years ago. Three days ago, my husband and I came in to purchase ingredients for sandwiches and some candy. While shopping, we were looking for banana peppers and asked a white female employee with blonde hair (approximately 5'5", thin build, around 35-50 years old) if she could help us. She stated that she was "not a pro" and told us to ask someone else. This made it clear she was likely not a manager, as most managers should know product locations or at least be able to direct customers to someone who can help. After we checked out and paid for our groceries, and within seconds of leaving the store, the same employee ran outside and aggressively demanded to see our receipt. We already had an Uber waiting, yet she repeatedly asked, "Where are your groceries? I need to see your receipt," over and over again in a rude and unprofessional manner. It was frustrating to say the least, so when I found this place, I started visiting regularly. It gave me some semblance of normalcy to not have to put back nearly all items I pick up. While it is pricier, I primarily buy my main produce elsewhere and supplement with paleo sauces, snacks and other items here. They also have a great supplement section, where I purchase a few supplement to help lesser the symptoms of my autoimmune disease. I had a more pleasant than usual experience today and wanted to highlight it. I visited on a Tuesday morning around 11AM and parking was plenty. I'm happy I can always find shaded parking. I walked in and grabbed a basket and it seems this place is always well staffed, which keeps the produce well stocks and it seems it's rotated regularly to make sure the items are fresh. This place is always clean and tidy, making it easy to remember the layout and navigate it. I had a question about their water machine and how they would charge for a half gallon(I didn't have a full gallon bottle), and she said they just weighed it! So I went to the cashier and ask if she needed to weigh my bottle before I filled it(just like how they would for bulk items) and she said since there is 64 FL Oz. Ingrained into the glass it was fine! It was a pleasant experience, as they were happy to answer my questions and helped me ensure I got what I needed. They also had free range eggs for $5/dozen, which was a pleasant surprise. Though at 11AM they only have one carton left. I did not buy it since I bought some eggs from TJs already. I also picked up some frozen squash and organic opal apples that were on sale. The prices weren't any worse than a usual grocery store. Just make sure you price match, like for example, chomp beef sticks are $1.99 at TJs, $2.69 here, but they were on sale for $1.69. So, you could do a bit of savings!(Since chomps turkey sticks are one of the only paleo sticks that I can throw in my purse in case I get hungry). Overall, I do enjoy this place. I think mire bulk items would be great as it is quite small today. I also could not find any lemon balm tea, so I'll have to buy that elsewhere. I'll be coming back every week to scour your sales and supplement my grocery shopping!

I'm just shy of a month until I'm 46. I'm gonna tell you right now, that means I have encountered…read moreno fewer than 800,000 grocery and shopping bags. I'm also old enough that I can say "I remember when. . . " And not sound like I'm auditioning for a part I am too young for . . . So, here goes: I remember when I lived at 12th&Taraval in SF. Just three straight uphill blocks from a Safeway. I lived in a 3rd story walk up apartment with my boyfriend and two cats, Blitzkrieg and Zippo. I would get groceries just to get paper bags sometimes to change my catliter. So these paper bags had handles and could safely hold groceries carried home often in Carl the fog or straight up rain, and THEN hold 10-15 pounds of soiled cat litter and poop down 3 flights of stairs without so much as tearing, let alone becoming completely structurally unsound. This is my grocery bag upon being picked up once. Once. You can't tell me it's not purposeful that these bags are garbage. It's bad enough Safeway gouges us on grocery prices, but to then disrespect the groceries we do but from them by making sure they drop on the floor immediately because of this shameful excuse for a paper bag. It's unreasonable. Completely unreasonable. This bag has English muffins, a piece of salmon and ladies hygiene pads. Almost no weight, and it tore upon being touched by a human. Safeway is a huge grocery chain . . . Do better.
