    December 21 cute little pumpkins
    Yvette F.

When I was checking out. I told the cashier. I don't know how to use my Safeway app. To get the discount. He immediately said no worries! I'm here to help you! I said well ok! I just didn't want to hold up your line. He said we will work together. And the line will go very quickly. Do, he looked at my phone. He said you're right where you need to be. I will just zap the cell. And wala we were fine. I said ream work made the dream work. We laughed and I was out of there in no time nice. I also, attached a picture of the cutest pumpkins.

This is by far the best Safeway. I find most Safeways to be a drag to shop in. Bad customer service, lack of quality of the ready made food, and the depressed souls that work at many of the Safeway Locations. But this store is different, the staff are nice, the food is hot and fresh, the shelves are well organized and stocked. Why can't they all be as good as this location in Castro Valley? Big thumbs up to this location.

    The "express" lane
    Larry K.

I think management needs to stress to cashiers on the 15 items or less "express" line is 15 items or less. Not a full cart, not 30+ items... 15. The sign clearly states 15 items or less. If the cashier can't handle that one job then maybe they should just do the regular check out lines where there are no limits? Speaking out for many express lane users.

Never anyone to take care of customers

All of people in the back and knowone taking care of customers but one person. I've lived here for 20 years and still no good service

Horrible cake ordered here before never gotten something so bad. Will never recommend or buy another custom birthday cake here again! The cake had so many bubbles then to make us even more disappointed with the order when we cut it there's 2 random layers of sheets cakes when the orders asked for a marble cake never seen a marble cake like this for $50 go else where!

Quality/Quantity - Came here for the ad item 8lbs of oranges for $4.99, but they were out of stock. Ended up buying like 5lbs of grapes. Atmosphere - Good size location. Cool soda display of the American Flag under your Thank You sign, see picture. Has many, if not all departments, including a Starbucks & US Bank; see pictures. You need a code to use the bathrooms, but the men's restroom was unlocked. I just pushed the door open. Plenty of mall parking. Open 7 days a week from 5am to 2am. Service - Self service. Also available are curbside pick up or delivery. Price - I think we paid $10. I believe oranges and strawberries are in season, not grapes, so prices reflect that. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1915 with your 904 locations in 17 states. In 2015, Albertsons purchased Safeway.

I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!

The veggies were standard veggies like bok choy, cabbages, root veggies etc. There were some things I was looking for that didn't have labels, just "general produce." No biggie, I know how to use my phone to scan images. The produce section also has a freezer section with frozen dumplings, buns, and other stuff. The selection was amazing. The meat department had plenty of options from poultry to beef to seafood. They also had frozen meat and poultry in ice chests. I did come for loose leaf teas and found just what I needed. Everything is really great quality and they have different jujube options. I also loved their frozen ice cream and sweets. We got the viral ice creams to try and they also had tanghulu but only the hawthorn ones. We get to the register and the cashiers were really nice. Overall the experience is great!

After I reminded her again that I had called in, she suddenly "found" it and told me to come back in 2 hours and that I would receive a text message when it was ready. I never received the text message they promised. I returned on Friday, and once again they couldn't locate my prescription. After more searching, they finally found it -- but they also tried to give me someone else's order at the same time. I had to explain that I only had one prescription and asked them to verify it using my phone number, not just my last name. The entire experience was very unprofessional, disorganized, and frustrating. On top of that, the drive-thru wait was over 20 minutes. For something as important as prescriptions, accuracy and communication should be a priority. This pharmacy seriously needs to improve its customer service and organization.

Note, this is more of a review of the taqueria attached to the market and not the market itself, though it looked like it had all the essentials. Meat wise, it's definitely missing my favorites but in this case, it's actually a good thing because it means I'll order things I dont normally order as much. I went with a chivo (goat meat) taco and a super carne asada (grilled steak) burrito. I also picked up a bag of chicharron con carne (pork cracklings with meat) and a side of refried beans. They lady that took care of me was super nice. I love places like this because it gives me a chance to practice my Spanish. What's so awesome about this place is that they are grilling the meats right in front of you, which makes me want to order everything. I took everything home to the family they all loved it. The steak was super juicy and it might be one of the better carne asada I had. Everything tasted super fresh. The chivo taco was very moist and delicious as well. As for the chicharrons, it's chicharrons, it's almost always going to be good and the beans, were delicious as well, wish I ordered some arroz on the side to go with it. I bought the pre-packaged chicharrons by the checkout but if you want yours a little warmer, you can buy at at the meat department in the back of the store. All in all, Im definitely coming back and looking forward to trying their other meat options like al pastor and barbacoa. Given how small their work space is and how busy they might be, be prepared to give some extra time, especially if you are like me and bringing the food back home.

The location has been consistent in delivering great food--I always get either their carnitas cheese fries or their barbacoa cheese fries with a bit of consommé (broth) added to it. Their cucumber limon agua fresca always hits, and I recommend their sandia fresca when it's available. Over the years, it's been a place where I have positive memories, as it carried my wife and me through tough days back in college. This was, and still is, a great and affordable meal that acts as both lunch and dinner due to how generous the portion is. The only caveat I have since trying the location after a few years of not stopping by is that they changed their French fries. I think right now they cut potatoes and deep-fry them, versus what it was before, where they were more "restaurant style" fries. The texture is slightly different; however, the flavor has been consistent and still tastes like what it was 10 years ago. A true hole in the wall--the only issue is parking can be quite hard to find, lol! Service is fast if you make it before peak lunch or dinner hours, haha! Love this place.

Three days ago, my husband and I came in to purchase ingredients for sandwiches and some candy. While shopping, we were looking for banana peppers and asked a white female employee with blonde hair (approximately 5'5", thin build, around 35-50 years old) if she could help us. She stated that she was "not a pro" and told us to ask someone else. This made it clear she was likely not a manager, as most managers should know product locations or at least be able to direct customers to someone who can help. After we checked out and paid for our groceries, and within seconds of leaving the store, the same employee ran outside and aggressively demanded to see our receipt. We already had an Uber waiting, yet she repeatedly asked, "Where are your groceries? I need to see your receipt," over and over again in a rude and unprofessional manner. She made it seem as though we had stolen a large amount of food. What made this situation even more uncomfortable was that we appeared to be the only customers targeted in this way. There wasNO CALM or respectful approach--CHASING US OUTSIDE!!!!! and speaking to us in an accusatory tone was completely unnecessary and inappropriate. It was frustrating to say the least, so when I found this place, I started visiting regularly. It gave me some semblance of normalcy to not have to put back nearly all items I pick up. While it is pricier, I primarily buy my main produce elsewhere and supplement with paleo sauces, snacks and other items here. They also have a great supplement section, where I purchase a few supplement to help lesser the symptoms of my autoimmune disease. I had a more pleasant than usual experience today and wanted to highlight it. I visited on a Tuesday morning around 11AM and parking was plenty. I'm happy I can always find shaded parking. I walked in and grabbed a basket and it seems this place is always well staffed, which keeps the produce well stocks and it seems it's rotated regularly to make sure the items are fresh. This place is always clean and tidy, making it easy to remember the layout and navigate it. I had a question about their water machine and how they would charge for a half gallon(I didn't have a full gallon bottle), and she said they just weighed it! So I went to the cashier and ask if she needed to weigh my bottle before I filled it(just like how they would for bulk items) and she said since there is 64 FL Oz. Ingrained into the glass it was fine! It was a pleasant experience, as they were happy to answer my questions and helped me ensure I got what I needed. They also had free range eggs for $5/dozen, which was a pleasant surprise. Though at 11AM they only have one carton left. I did not buy it since I bought some eggs from TJs already. I also picked up some frozen squash and organic opal apples that were on sale. The prices weren't any worse than a usual grocery store. Just make sure you price match, like for example, chomp beef sticks are $1.99 at TJs, $2.69 here, but they were on sale for $1.69. So, you could do a bit of savings!(Since chomps turkey sticks are one of the only paleo sticks that I can throw in my purse in case I get hungry). Overall, I do enjoy this place. I think mire bulk items would be great as it is quite small today. I also could not find any lemon balm tea, so I'll have to buy that elsewhere. I'll be coming back every week to scour your sales and supplement my grocery shopping!

Just three straight uphill blocks from a Safeway. I lived in a 3rd story walk up apartment with my boyfriend and two cats, Blitzkrieg and Zippo. I would get groceries just to get paper bags sometimes to change my catliter. So these paper bags had handles and could safely hold groceries carried home often in Carl the fog or straight up rain, and THEN hold 10-15 pounds of soiled cat litter and poop down 3 flights of stairs without so much as tearing, let alone becoming completely structurally unsound. This is my grocery bag upon being picked up once. Once. You can't tell me it's not purposeful that these bags are garbage. It's bad enough Safeway gouges us on grocery prices, but to then disrespect the groceries we do but from them by making sure they drop on the floor immediately because of this shameful excuse for a paper bag. It's unreasonable. Completely unreasonable. This bag has English muffins, a piece of salmon and ladies hygiene pads. Almost no weight, and it tore upon being touched by a human. Safeway is a huge grocery chain . . . Do better.
