Sometimes even the smallest things can get misunderstood and turn into something much bigger. Martha was wonderful when she called to confirm my cupcake cake order for a group of UNR graduates. Unfortunately, somewhere between the follow-up conversation with the bakery and the final product, there was a major disconnect. The order was for a 20-24 cupcake cake, but what was prepared was a full sheet cake. Thankfully, what could have turned into a horrible experience for my son's graduation celebration became an outstanding example of exceptional customer service. Brandon, the Store Manager, immediately stepped in, sincerely apologized, and took swift action to make things right. Martha went above and beyond by personally going into the bakery to ensure the order matched what we had originally discussed, and Brandon even delivered the corrected order himself. Thank you as well to Shannon, who quickly resolved an issue with the charge on my order. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but it's how they're handled that truly matters. The professionalism, accountability, and genuine care shown by Martha, Brandon, and Shannon turned a stressful situation into a positive one. Do the people who work here hate their customers? Is it really such a pain to help customers at self checkout. I've never shopped at a store where a clerk made a snide comment about the contents of my cart. The prices aren't that great here and the selection isn't particularly broad. The bakery is an afterthought and probably the most unappealling deli display in Reno. I'd rather spend more money at much friendlier Save Mart across the street than shop at a Safeway run by poor management. read more

Went in to grab some energy drinks this morning and the customer service was great as I was new here and didn't know where things were located- the guy at the front directed me to the right spot, the store was clean but they were out of my favorite brand! I was bummed but grabbed a new one I hadn't tried and it was delish. The pricing is a little steep but if you are a member you can shop their deals. Quality/Quantity - Good instock conditions. They had both the 8lb oranges and yesterday's advertisement of shrimp in stock. Too bad I forgot to bring my shrimp rain check... Atmosphere - Huge Safeway with a gas station, see pictures. Amazon lockers right outside Safeway, easy access. Department available - Deli, fresh produce, meat & seafood, pharmacy, Starbucks, bakery, and of course groceries, etc. Store is open 24 hours, see picture for Pharmacy hours. I want to give a shout out to my local Safeway - especially after reading all the negative reviews. In my experience, everyone that works here has been very pleasant. Yes, sometimes they are out of things but that has been the exception, not the rule. And they typically decorate the store according to the seasons to make it a bit more festive. I get regular emails from Safeway which include virtual coupons that I can "clip" and use at the store when I enter my phone number at checkout. The discount is more than what is advertised on the products in the store. And I now have the app because sometimes they have Items which can be further discounted by scanning a displayed label. When they are available, they are clearly marked in the store. Today, I felt the deli went above and beyond! The last few times I have stopped by, they have been out of seafood salad. A worker told me she could go in the back and make it for me - no problem! I didn't want to put her out but she insisted and within a few minutes she had a container for me! She said to always ask because they will try to find what you are looking for. Nice! read more

This is the Safeway I grew up with. My brother would always rave about their price for lunch for the Asian food in high school. I don't think it's ever changed after 20+ years! This location had a reno at in the recent years which I thought was cute that they added popular street names at the end of the aisles. It is bright, clean, and cheery inside. We usually go here for their florals. They are always high quality and rarely see any wilted flowers. Today we came to pick up a couple bouquets for my mom and our grandma. We ended up buying ingredients for dinner tonight. We were able to find our ingredients easily. Upon check out, we used the self check out which was easy to use. We needed assistance as we received an error while placing items in the plastic bag and the check out representative helped us swiftly. He was very friendly and acknowledged my daughter and said hi to her. read more

I placed a Togo pick up order for 3 items & was happy that I was notified that it was ready to be picked up before the stated time. That's where it all fell apart. The app won't let you check in before your time even if things are ready. The phone number on the sign has been disconnected. I had to call store twice and waited 10 minutes on hold the first time to be told they would be right out. 15 minutes later I called again & was told the same thing. This place is absolutely despicable. The night shift manager is horrendous. A year ago she asked my boyfriend if he "thought it would fit" when she was packing our toilet paper into a paper bag which I find disgusting and inappropriate. And then about a week or 2 ago I wasn't able to get my groceries because their card scanner system doesn't work all the time and they blamed it on me. Acted like I was broke and couldn't pay for my groceries, so a VERY kind gentleman who was in line next to me ended up giving me $20 dollars so i could purchase some of my items at least. Anyway, the SAME chick who is the night manager told me "well...idk go to a different safeway." They are super un professional. And this store should consider hiring new employees because the ones they do have are NOT helpful to their customers or considerate and should not work customer service if that is the way they act. read more

I've only come here on "emergencies". Essentially, if my regular store is out of stock of something I really, really need then I will come here to shop. The staff I have encountered were mostly nice, a couple clerks looked like they don't want to be there. There seems to be lack of cashiers here so I always opt for the self check-out first. If you think the Express Lane will get you outta there then reconsider your priorities because it's "express" LOL! Expect to pay at least 30% more on items here in comparison to Walmart or SaveMart. For example, yogurt that I get from another grocery store will cost almost twice as much here. There were several occassions when I got lucky during their sale that couple of items I needed came out just a tad lower than my regular grocery store. read more

I come in here fairly regularly with hit or miss results. But the employees are regularly rude. I was here a few weeks ago and watched the self-checkout assistant give another customer a hard time while she kept repeating "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't mean too, I'm sorry" she finally put her foot down and asked him to stop talking to her so rudely. He cancelled her items and told her she "was done." Wild. I just now went in with a question about florals. He (same guy, Johnny) cut me off, saying "We don't do that here, waved his hand in my face, and walked away before I could even finish my question. I decided to just call and spoke to someone also rude (possibly Johnny again, but I don't know that for sure) and then was bounced from department to department for 10 minutes. I've had other unpleasant experiences here, but I wrote them off as just an off moment. Guess it's a vibe. But they are open late, so I guess that's a plus. I got there at 7:45 and they would not slice up any ham for me... And the gentleman told me they are not allowed to post signs about their hours so I'm not sure what time the deli closes it used to be 9 PM... Then it was 8 PM And now it's 7:45 PM. You still can't get any deli meat so I don't know what's going on and then you don't know what time to get here. There's three Safeway stores in a 30 mile radius of Reno and I just drove 20 miles to get boars head ham That they apparently can't sell me at 7:45 PM because they're not allowed to post signs about their hours.????? I just want to shout out Alvin from Safeway. I had a bunch of groceries in my arms at the self check out today (I should have grabbed a cart but I bought more than I thought) and there was a line. He saw me went out of his way to leave his post to help grab some of my groceries and scan them for me. He was so nice and polite and even helped me when I was about to pay for the wrong price on a vegetable! Not to mention he was multitasking with another customer and helping them with their transactions as well! He even helped me bag them! Every time I see him he is always working hard and being friendly and efficient. He could have just stood there and let me struggle but he saw me in need of help and really made my night better. read more

This store sucks. If you come here to buy a lot of groceries I wouldn't recommend. Came here on a Monday afternoon and all of the cash registers were closed. They only had self checkout open. It was a very annoying and inconvenient experience because I had some fruit and vegetables in my cart. I had to search every single little item up just because no cash registers were open. I can't even imagine the people that struggle with technology having to pay with self checkout. Sometimes people prefer the cash register because it's easier. It should be the bare minimum for a grocery store to at least have one cash register open. And sure, there was one single worker at the self checkout but he didn't do anything. this was my go to store for years and has gotten soooooo bad and today was a topper. if ya'll know Flo from progressive, you probably know her sister, Janice. The store flyer came out today with digital specials for corn on the cob and fresh cherries. my visit was at approximately 3:00 pm. There were no cherries and maybe 3 picked through cobs. I walked through the store for some help but not a soul to be found. I went to the registers and found Janice's double. Hair disheveled, chewing gum(I believe) and asked about the missing sale items. She stared beyond my right shoulder and looked like she was in a trans. Coming to, she mumbled " I don't think any one's back there". This was delivered in a zombie caring attitude. No lie, I thought I was in a progressive commercial. I tried to find someone at guest services but no one. I asked the self checker but he just looked around. As I stared to leave a bald Jamie walked up and dead panned "are you the one asking for corn and cherries"? The guys and gals at this store bust their asses for crappy pay, so when I see a lot of other negative reviews, I can totally understand why people would get poor customer service. I've listened to people talk about when they get to finally sit down and take their 10 minute breaks... at a job where you -must- stand all day. I'd give crappy customer service, too if my job was as dehumanizing as this one is. Albertsons' (who owns Safeway) CEO, Vivek Sankaran, made $28,944,892 last year. Maybe he can come work the deli with his superhuman work ethic and customer service that merits making such an egregious amount of money. Everyone at this store should unionize and strike. This review is mainly for the terrible service that I have received at the deli. I moved here from California and had shopped at Safeway happily for years. Beautiful, fully stocked, new stores with lots of friendly staff. This is not anything like that. I come here every Sunday to purchase deli meat and cheese for my family's work/school lunches. I like the Boars Head brand which literally the only reason that I come here. Every Sunday it's the same thing. 1 person behind the deli counter and a line a mike long. The other workers by the hot food make no effort to help and just stand around and chat with each other. The workers are poorly trained, don't know the product line and don't listen when you place your order. The service is slow that you could literally drive to Smiths to get the Boars Head product and it probably wouldn't take any longer. I was hoping this Safeway location would be my go to but I will make the drive to Smiths for better service, pricing and selection. read more

Customer service was atrocious in the deli department. I waited over ten minutes until I was helped. This guy stayed in the background behind the machines until he came forward to help this customer who was in the line behind the next man up. Another employee kept her back to the waiting customers and cleaned and cleaned the meat machines for the entire ten minutes we were all waiting. Then I went to the bakery to get a loaf of sourdough sliced and stood around for a few minutes while NOONE attempted to help me. I was the only one at the counter. Updating on my grocery experience there for the last several times. I don't know what happened. I wish I knew. Today was my last day shopping at this store, because I just can't go into a store happy and looking forward to getting a few quick items and coming out a red-hot ball of anger because of the service here anymore. I don't hate shopping, but I hate shopping at this place. Today - they were out of everything I needed. No regular sour cream, no honey vanilla yogurt, no dutch-crunch bread. I've been in here twice looking for these things, and they just are out of stock, no idea when it might be stocked. The aisles are a mess on a Friday afternoon. Seriously. Everything looks to be gone over, and through, and they have a 3 day ad in the paper! They don't have enough checkers EVER. They had 3 (2 of which were express) Pardon me for saying, but they always put the slowest cashiers on express, and today in my case SHERRIE decided to let some guy go through the 15 or less aisle with 50-70 items (full on cart) I brought my own bags and bagged them myself because she was just too slow. This was the first time I went to this store in Reno. I was really impressed with the produce section, I told the worker that it looked like art it was so clean and super organized. This was the best produce section I've ever seen in my life! I like that this was a specialty Safeway. It had a pharmacy and a Starbucks inside, sweet. I really like the flower section and treated myself to some red roses and stargazer lilies. This store carries certain product that I can only get here, so I needed a quick trip. In the end I spent $250 that was expensive in my opinion. The staff was really nice and friendly and that is important to me... Safeway always has a great selection of alcohol. The wines and champagnes are top notch, you get a discount if you buy 6 bottles. I stock up on my favorite champs this way. read more

I go to this location as its close to home. Its clean, and usually the checkout clerks are nice enough, but most seem to put off a vibe that they just don't want to be there. I get it, its a grocery store job, but at least try a little? most things I need are in stock, but I usually go elsewhere for produce as it can be hit or miss. Oh and they are big plastic bag pushers here. I am almost never asked if I want "paper or plastic" and then by the time I realize it all my stuff is already in plastic bags. Even double plastic bags for things that don't even need it. I was told they might not even carry paper bags anymore. Its 2020 and the planet is dying, come on Safeway and get with the program! Especially now that we cant bring reusable bags due to covid. I know the plastic bag is the Nevada state Bird in these parts (that and the construction cone) but I don't want to contribute to it. Online order gone Bad! We normally purchase our groceries from Raley's but my wife wanted to give Safeway a try. She ordered online for the first time there, and boy was that a mistake. The green beans had brown and dark marks all over them, the milk expiration date expired in 2 days of us purchasing. The grapes had dark marks on them and look like they were on the verge of going bad. It was almost like they tried to find the worst looking food and ones that expired soon to get rid of them. Pharmacy: It seems like every time I have called in a prescription there has been an issue, which results in an extra wait time. There use to be a really good male pharmacist there, and since he left so has the efficiency of this pharmacy. Today, I decided that after nine years it was time to try a new pharmacy location. Store: I asked the pharmacy to ring up three items with my prescription. Since my prescription wasn't ready, I did some light shopping. Low and behold, one of the items was overcharged. So I went to the customer service station by the check stand. And waited...and waited... I asked a cashier if she could please call someone to the customer service desk and she said she would be there in a minute and seemed annoyed that I even asked her for assistance. While I was at the register an older lady parked herself at customer service. Finally a manager came up and started to assist the other lady. I was a little more than annoyed, as she just assumed the older lady was first. When she couldn't easily solve her problem, she came to assist me. Long story short, this Safeway use to be my place for groceries and prescriptions. It is sad to see the decline in the friendliness in this location and lack of overall customer service. There are other grocery stores and pharmacies that actually value your patronage and this is not one of them. read more

This Mae Anne store continues to be the worst that can be imagined. The meat bins are empty and the cheese shelves are depleted. I went to the South Reno store and found all were stocked properly, and the checker knew the game and helped rather than making fun of me for trying to get my winnings. Hands down the worst shopping experience I've had in quite a while. To sum it up. They had barely any staff for their deli case waited for 15 min for someone to help, I was the first one there by the time I left many had congregated. Wanted to get fried chicken there was already several people waiting, but they hadn't started any, would go back later I thought. Did my shopping, several advertised items were not stocked. Went back several times to the hot case, more people still no sale chicken. Decided to get cold fried chicken. Lines up the wazoo for check out. Did self check. Not enough room to bag every thing so had to rearrange bags, this triggered their security 2 times, one for which I waited quite a while for someone to respond. No wand for large items. Self check out is built to elicit back spasms, which it did. So I placed as much as I could in the top of cart. To top it off my cold chicken, fell into the cross walk. As I went to pick it up my cart ran off More back spasms as I lurched to grab it. I really hated this place as I was loading my car. Left that frickin chicken in cross walk as a testament to the dysfunction inside. read more
