I am sad to say that my shopping with Safeway will be coming to an end. I moved to Goodyear, AZ 14 years ago and don't even remember shopping anywhere else other than the Safeway on Indian School & Litchfield. Recently over the past few trips that I've had the butcher not only be the most unfriendly person but also the least responsive person working there. Every time I go to the butcher it's almost as if I am bothering them to help me. NO SMILE, NO HELLO, NO FRIENDLYNESS! ...and then they almost ignore you until you actually ask for help even when they see you. Walking over slowly as if you want to spend 30 ordering meat. This is my local Safeway I live in a neighborhood and today I came in and I purchased a bunch of sale items I was really happy cuz a lot of things you had were tremendous sales such a turkey bacon and Jimmy Dean bacon in the challenge butter I purchase those want some packaged romaine lettuce and some bread rolls and different things when I got home I realized that the the Richard didn't give me my lettuce and my butter so I went back to the store a few hours later and talk to the kid at the desk and he said without my receipt I couldn't get my product now I understood I don't have my receipt because obviously Richard McKay me that either so am I very disappointing mysafeway yes what he come back to the Safeway know and when I have people ask me where they should shop the one place I'll tell him not to will be the Safeway read more

I haven't felt the need to review this store until today. The butcher, Moe, was amazing. He greeted me with a smile and kindly helped me with my order. I wanted thin sliced chicken breasts (because "I was being lazy") but they weren't available. Without saying a word, Moe went back and sliced them for me. He saved me so much time and really put a smile on my face. Thanks for helping make my sons birthday dinner that much easier. I got bell peppers and tomatoes and their bell peppers had WORMS inside and their tomatoes had MOLD. So disgusted & won't be returning.

Usually can find everything I need here but on my last trip JANE a cashier was very rude and over charged me by almost ten dollars which I tried to explain to her that was not right when she told me my Total but long story short I went to the customer service desk and the nice manager sorted it all out and gave me my money that I was over charged. Usually a fair experience however as of late, employees have become complaisant in rotating stock as we've seen a lot of expired products on the shelf. (Not practicing FIFO) In addition, this morning we witnessed and employee drop pastries on the floor when restocking the cooler. The "clam-shell" packaging popped open and the employee just placed product back into the package and placed it into the cooler! Advised the MOD however; the employee simply said it was taken care of......NOT TRUE! I know what we saw as did others. Out of date foods being sold and dropped food on the floor being sold. Makes me question the ethics and sanitation of this facility. Time to move on!! read more

Purchased a pasta salad from the Deli. I asked about the price because there was a sign that said 4.99/lb and I was charged 5.99/lb. The clerk pulled the tag which clearly stated $4.99/lb Everyday. As she pulled it the plastic tab dropped into the kale salad underneath, which wasn't removed. The clerk came back after asking the Manager and said it's the wrong price on the tag we must have put the wrong tag up. I said, are you going to give it to me for the price shown. She said no because it's entered on the scale as $5.99. I said I feel like you should give it to me for the price that is shown on the tag. She said, ok I will tell my Manager. Just then the Manager walked by and didn't say one word and she clearly heard the conversation. Terrible customer service not only from the clerk but even more so from the Manager! Been coming here for years, but just had a really unfortunate encounter with Vertanya who works at the customer service desk when I tried to deal with an item that did not ring up properly. I placed my items on the counter with the receipt. She grabbed the receipt and started looking at it. I paused because she was studying the receipt. Her first words were "Are you going to talk to me, or just stand there? " Really? wow. It continued to go downhill from there, like when she asked me if I knew the difference between cash and a credit card. I am not sure what triggered Vertanya that day, but I can't think of a worse person to be working a desk that is supposed to deliver customer service. She was overly rude and disrespectful. Yikes! Hope I never have to deal with her again. I called Kyle the manager to let him know. read more

Shout out to the Pharmacy dept at Safeway on Glendale & 7th St (810 E Glendale)! After having had the complete opposite (bad) experience at Walgreen's Pharmacy (kiddie-cornered) yesterday, this experience was so simple yet SO appreciated. Safeway's pharmacy is actually run by competent ADULTS! (I can't say the same for Walgreen's, soooo bad). Safeway is literally around the corner for me and when my physician asked where I wanted to fill a new RX, Walgreens or CVS is what came to mind....not anymore! This Safeway will be my go-to. In addition, they were courteous! The woman that initially assisted me asked if I had other shopping to do as it would be a few minutes - perfect, I did need a "few" things. $98 later (+ $27 at their SBUX), I left a happy customer and feeling SO much better about Safeway. It's not that I have ever had a bad experience there, it was just, "meh?" Not good or bad, just not where I normally grocery shop. But, because their pharmacy staff is excellent, I will be in much more often. It may have been this new attitude, but I also noticed how friendly ALL of the employees were - smiles and hellos in the isles, plus pleasantries while checking out. I like this Safeway although I don't shop here very much. Prices on household goods and hygiene products are much better at Wal-Mart. The store is always spic and span and the employees are pleasant and helpful. A tip to other shoppers-go early in the morning on weekends to avoid the wasps (i.e., the Brophy and San Xavier) moms. Those ladies in matching sweater sets are crazy drivers with their carts and their Suburbans in the parking lot. They stop in the aisles and chat with each other oblivious to others trying to get around them. read more

Update: IMO this store is not doing too well since the coronavirus hit. I understand these are tough times for businesses but they took this as an opportunity to raise prices across the board. Again, whoever runs this store seems to think they are dealing with the economic elite of Phoenix. In reality, it's a nice working class neighborhood with a large number of older people on fixed incomes. Also, like Fry's, this Safeway hired many new employees, and I don't see the nice front end people I mentioned in the last review, some of whom I have seen several times a week for years. Forget about lunch to go from the deli counter. One senior citizen working the entire deli counter. I like to grab a couple of wings from the deli counter and take it back to office. That all changed recently. I have tried twice before to swing in and grab a hot shack fur lunch. 10 minutes with the same old timer working samiches and hot eats deli area. Regardless of this dude's age, he needs help. I thought it was a staging issue the first few times I wasted my lunch hour just trying to grab some chicken pieces. I now know it's a management issue. You don't have a senior citizen working a high profile area. Maybe put someone else with him? No wonder people will drive 10 miles out of their way to avoid Safeways. This Safeway location has been very well managed. It's Thanksgiving in a few days and I can still stop in to grab some last minute dinner items for tonight's meal without waiting in large lines..plenty of checkers. The store is well stocked and was able to find what I needed. Let's just say Fry's newly remodeled store may be nice, but whomever is running the place over there has no clue on how to manage during peak times. The shelves were bare. I'm partial to fresh and easy but my son goes to school right around the corner so we stop here often for last minute "oh crap! I forgot it was our snack day" runs. Clean. The music playing here is bad enough that I notice it every time and think "Wow, I'd be hard-pressed to pick worse music," and in fact, bad enough that I saw fit to pull my phone out and take the time to type this. Also, they do that obnoxious thing that dumb stores do where at night they turn off one of the automatic doors arbitrarily without putting anything in front of it to let you know. Finally, they're typically pretty bad about leaving carts scattered around the parking lot. I've counted 22 before. Feel free to use these rogue carts as mobile dumpsters to clean out your car. They'll catch on eventually. read more

I choose Safeway over all other grocery stores (unless it's Costco). They have such friendly and helpful employees that work there. They always say hello, they always ask if you need help finding anything. I also really enjoy their "Just4U" phone app where I get additional savings and freebies throughout the month. Yes, Safeway is a little more expensive then say Fry's or Walmart, but I'd take their customer service and store cleanliness over bad service and dirty stores. read more

Busy noon hour with only two cashiers neither of which is an express lane. Searching throughout store due to poorly trained employees that are unfamiliar where items are. Ugh...seriously? Adding 10,000 new products to NARROW the aisles? You can barely get two carts in the aisle and if someone is standing and trying to find an item...or 2 people...you have to wait. I utterly hate this store now. I will drive to 32nd St/Camelback to shop. They have a beautiful store that actually makes sense and tells the shopper that they want us to enjoy our shopping experience. The 7th St store says, " We can care less if you like it or not." This is a very nice Safeway store. It is very well organized they have an excellent wine, beer as well as liquor selection. If you buy a 6 pack of wine or liquor you get a 10 percent discount which is a pretty good deal. They have a very nice selection of flowers too. read more

There has been very little to no  Bakery products. Nothing can be found even the employees don't know where things located and don't seem to care .  Every single can good, bottle is filthy dirty with construction dust. I've been shopping at this Safeway since it is opened it is now the most disgusting store imaginable. I know you don't give care because when you lose one or two customers you normally gain two or three more so who cares anymore. Nice, big, well-lit parking lot. Good neighborhood that I feel safe shopping later at night in. Carries basically everything you would want as far as basics go, plus a few extras. Minus one star for narrow aisles and some digital coupon hiccups. Their prices can be higher than other grocery stores (though I hear Albertson's is worse), but only if you don't use their card AND jump through the hoops of their digital coupons on their app. Once you download all the coupons (no limit), then the prices go down to reasonable-to-excellent depending on what deals you have. Some speciality items (like mochi ice cream and organic goods) will still be more expensive than Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Their private label quality is pretty good, especially the Eating Right, Safeway Select, and Open Nature brands. The lower-end generics will have a few annoying qualities that show why they're cheaper (the Lucerne cheese slices don't have paper behind them separating the slices like Sargento does). I also find this store to be better stocked on some items than the Fry's on Camelback and 20th street, which will run low on items when they're on sale (Greek yogurt seems to always be out of stock there - thank goodness Costco carries a plain Kirkland one now). The employees for the most part show good customer service. I've had a few very friendly and helpful encounters too. Sometimes the person manning the self-checkout area is a little "zombie-ish" though. The in-store Starbucks, Wells Fargo, and Pharmacy are all convenient and their hours aren't too limited. The pharmacy staff is polite and helpful. Overall, a nice upper-middle market supermarket that I will continue to frequent. If they made a better effort to carry more local items (the Safeways in Hawaii do a good job there) it would be appreciated. read more

Breath of very fresh air!!! After the fiasco that was my experience with CVS,Safeway not only made switching my prescription seemless,but the customer service has been AMAZING each and every time. Even when I screwed up on my auto refill process,they were entirely gracious and got me right back on track. The pharmacist will make sure to give me grief about being late on picking up my meds as it can be detrimental to me to go without. They actually pay attention to stuff like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This store's employees do not follow COVID-19 mandates. Three employees in one day had no mask on including floral, one in bakery and one stocking produce - both just breathing on the food.
