Submitting another more positive review as the atmosphere at this store seems improved. As far as cashiers - I look at their faces before getting in their lines! If I see a stressed out face, I move on. Overall now the cashiers I choose are friendly & make a little chit chat, which is nice & helps me feel valued & welcome. The bakery staff were especially helpful when I had trouble picking a cake for my grandson. The stockers appear to always work hard, but will stop if I need to reach for something where they're working. The covered parking remains a big plus. The aisles are more narrow than other Safeways but probably because this store was built longer ago. Overall I see much more positivity & helpfulness in this store. read more

Terribly disappointed. I ordered on Tuesday from the pickup page. I selected items I wanted that were on special for a next day morning pick up. It showed the discount, the items selected, the page showed my morning pick up request and took my payment. The next morning upon arrival I found everything was a total cluster f**k. My order 8# of the boneless skinless chicken breast 7 Mountain Dew 6-16.9 oz 5 Diet Mountain Dew 6-16.9 oz 2 Dr. Pepper 6-16.9 oz * Chicken $1.77 a pound = $14.16 * Pepsi products, Buy 3 get 3 free @ 2 offers = $41.94 * Dr Pepper, Buy 2 pay $1.87 each = $3.74 At the store I'm told that they substituted the Diet with regular Mountain Dew. I said I can't drink regular Mountain Dew but was told that was more or less tough. (I have cancer & have to limit sugar to prevent feeding my tumor & prescription conflicts.) On top of that, the 8 portions of chicken breast I ordered (even added a note) was now 14 pounds as the butcher package 8 portions (some were connected dual breast pieces). The stores substitutions created an issue as well. The substitutions made the order now a Wednesday purchase and no longer at the Tuesday deal prices. I was confronted with a $148.72 purchase price total versus the pre-paid original expected price of $59.84. $88.88 more than what I was quoted by the ordering app. On top of it I was told that I could NOT cancel the order without a managers approval & they were not going to be in for more than 5 hours from the pick up time. When ordering items sold by the pound, it should be package by the pound not quantity. When an item is substituted I should have the option of what the substitution will be. An order started under one weeks deals should honor that weeks deal if payment is required to place that order despite when it is obtained. If you pay for and buy an item on sale and the price changes before you receive it, you shouldn't pay the additional amount. In addition, the Diet Mountain Dew was actually available but the computer was showing none available. Even though I could actually see that there was product, the puller said they could "only grab what the computer showed in stock" and had to ignore actual product availability. WTF read more

This store used to be so nice- clean, organized, well stocked. It has gone down hill over the last few years and is now a disorganized mess. The aisles are too narrow, shelves empty, and staff who are restocking take up the aisles and are hard to get around, oblivious to shoppers. The pharmacy has also gone downhill. After reading reviews here I can say that I'm happy the store was closed even though they advertised being open for Christmas. It seems that someone should retrain or replace the management because at this point there doesn't seem to be any that really care about the store, the customer, or the employees. All of these complaints could be addressed and handled by good management. As far as my beef with the store all they have to do is change the ad on the website and tell folks they are closed and not open... how hard is that. It sucks to drive 11 miles one way to find a store that is closed. I won't be back there again. read more

I went to Safeway late in the afternoon , and at the end of the day I walk with a lot of pain( cancer metastasized to spine) . I walked in the door that always has the drive carts ...I didn't see him but I saw Collin. I told him I was in pain right away he had Jordan get me a mobile. A first visit for me. A really nice but over-priced store. After searching for a while, I asked an employee where to find kasha (explained it was buckwheat groats) - not Kashi cereal. I spelled the name for him, and he couldn't find kasha listed on his phone. Per him, sorry, we don't carry it. Two aisles down, I found not only the kasha I wanted, but it even came in several different grinds. Either the employee was ill-informed, or the product was not listed on his phone. I went to get the .87 chicken on sale. I did not see any thighs. The butcher was out taking inventory of the meat stock. I greeted him and asked if he had any thighs. He did not acknowledge me. I asked again and he mumbled something. I asked if that was a no. He replied that he had answered me 3 times no. If I had heard I wouldn't have asked AGAIN. Once again, Safeway advertises $5 Friday specials and does not provide sufficient stock for purchase at the stores. One half into the first day of a 3 day sale, and the store at 4811 N 83rd Avenue has ZERO bottles of the sale orange juice. With a limit of 2 per customer, the store should have received enough to easily get through the first day of the sale. Yes, I got a rain check. But they had no idea when the juice would be in stock. And I still have to spend gas and time to go back. This is a regular occurance with Safeway. And amazingly, I have discovered the day after sales end the store has plenty of stock on the shelf. This borders close to loss leaders and bait and switch. Come on Safeway! Either stock your stores or start ordering them to price match on another similar item so we don't have the frustration of insufficient stock.​ read more

Safeway in midsized shopping center at corner of Glendale Ave and N. 7th st. They have a nice selection of foods, deli items(I bought a few salads) and Lays sour cream, onion chips for only $1.49. Staff is professional and available to answer questions. There is ample parking in the lot. Recommended, above average Safeway. read more

I have shopped at this Safeway for the last 25 years. It's a mile from my house. I'm done shopping here. My grocery bills are way more expensive here than any other grocery store (even AJ's). They are usually out of multiple things on my list (today it was sugar), there is never anyone around to ask for help, and I'm tired of snotty service. Went through the checkout line today. The guy bagging was plunking my produce into the bag. I asked him not to throw my produce and I got "I'm not throwing it". No apology, just an offended employee...typical these days. Got to my car and pulled out the apples that he threw in the bag and yes, they were bruised to the point the skin was broken and the apples were wet. Every time I am at this Safeway, there is some sort of issue. I'm done with crappy customer service and being price gouged for food. Went three days in a row to safeway looking for shepherders bread or anything similar but to no avail. They bakery dept on any given day were sparce and not kept. I am a weekly shopper at 67th and Beardsley store and have noticed that the deli service is really bad . Usually one person serving and 2 hiding in the back with a line of customers waiting. This week I decided to mention it at the desk and the person I spoke with was rude and unhelpful. She had an attitude that I was bothering her with my question. She said 'you need to speak with the manager' and I said perhaps you could mention it to him/her. Her answer 'the manager has gone for the day'. Shopped there for 20 years. They are now from my point of view trying to be Costco. I checked out cocktail peanuts today. At the "special" price the customer had to buy 5 cans! Same for the chips. Some days can bring you something new to think about. For instance, I walk into this Safeway grocery store that I have walked into many times. Now I am supposed to be doing a review of a grocery store, and in a way I am and I'm not. Today was a little bit different. As I walked in I followed my better half to look at some items in the store. I turned my attention over to the Starbucks coffee counter and all of a sudden a painting caught my eye. I said to myself, what is this painting doing here, so I took a photo of it. As soon as we walked further into the store, I started to really take a good look around. I began to realize that often we go places and we really don't see what is around us. I took a glance at another wall way up on top of the wine display area. I saw a picture that intrigued me. So I walked over to take a closer look, and somehow this picture really caught my attention. So as I approached to get near the picture, one of the employees asked me if I needed any help, I responded, no but, thank you. I told her I just wanted to have a closer look at the picture hanging up on the wall. She herself looked up and said, "oh the Phoenix Senators", And I asked, "do you mind if I take a picture", she said, go ahead. She asked, do you know the players, I said, no I wouldn't have been around to even know the baseball team, the Phoenix Senators. Now this is where this review story gets interesting and will come to a close. The lady, asked me when was I born? Come to find out we were born the same year and same month. This hasn't been the first time this has happened to me. I find that if you really think about it good things come your way in ways we don't know. This was one of them. By the way, the Phoenix Senators picture was from 1951, which is the only year they played in the Southwest International League. Just my own story. read more

Get vaccines at your own risk. I had to call 3x, speak with 3 different people before they could locate my vaccines. Each of the first two times they kep telling me I didn't do them at their store, which of course they were proven wrong. Then, they only located one of the two of the vaccines I even had. So, now Im immunized against a major disease with absolutely no record of it, whatsoever. The pharmacist himself was a complete jerk about it too. Basically said since they have no record they have no responsibility. Um sir, you are the one who is supposed to have my records, not me. I have reported to to the Dept of Health. I had only reviewed this store's flower department. I can't remember her name, but she's been working there quite a number of years, and is always friendly and helpful and goes the extra mile. She looks like she's in her early sixties and wears glasses and has brown hair. I'm thinking her name is Marge, but that's not right. She looks like the perfect person to be working with flowers and plants. Anyway, I wanted to mention this store FINALLY got a new store director. He's been there a few months now, and his name is Jerry. He's always walking around checking on things, helping and talking to the customers. don't know if it's my imagination, but I think business in his store has picked up. Maybe it's cause of COVID, and people are just cooking more since they're kind of stuck at home and it's kind of a hassle to go out. Worst store in the central Phoenix area. After selecting over $200.00 worth of groceries I arrive at the one and only check stand open with 6 other patrons and proceed to wait for 20 minutes to be checked out. When I asked the manager, Mike Ditrioa to have another register he informed me that their was no one else in the store to help us. When I inquired as to his capability to open a register and check us out, he replied rudely, I can but I am too busy. He walked away and left us all waiting. Shame on Safeway! This place! My main reason for shopping here is the wine cabinet. In the old days this location had a legendary selection. They still have some extra nice wines for sale. They don't show it much priority. After having a bad experience I was offered humble apologies by Chantelle. Several times I have shopped digital deals that were not priced as so at checkout. It's happened so many times and each time I catch the error prompting me to have checkout assistance to correct it or go to customer service for credits owed to me. I'm concerned that customers aren't catching it and getting ripped off. Safeway management must know about this problem and yet it persists. I mainly run into those Safeway to grab a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of wine before going to dinner parties because it's Phoenix and the flowers would die if I bought them near my home. Their floral department is what I need it to be and the their alcohol section is boozapalooza. I think it is marvelous. I want to thank you for being THAT GOOD. They also have a great selection of food, fresh and beautiful produce, a decent butcher, a baker and yet no candlestick maker. It's a good place to shop for food. I also love the solar panels, what a great thing to do. More places should do that. Your car is cooler and we use the free sunshine! I have had one off instances where someone rubbed me the wrong way or didn't meet my initial expectations but someone has always stepped up to TRY and make things better. This is one of my favorite two places to get groceries. The store is so easy to shop at. Who ever planned it deserves a medal. It is big without being intimidating. Each area of the store is well stocked, including the nice big specialty section. The staff is as accommodating as one could ever ask for. You are likely to be asked if you are needing help several times, regularly, when you shop in this store. Even in the specialty areas, which can be the downfall of a good store, this attitude is carried through. I can't really thing of anything to criticize. This Safeway is that good. I'll share with you something you might miss. Back by the dairy, by the swinging doors, there are a few shelves of mark downs. It never hurts to take a look for those things you might buy if the prices were lower. It gives you that chance to find out if they are worth the higher or price or not. Other things may not be exotic, some you might never buy, but it's worth a look! One note concerning shopping at this store during rush hour. Try to a make a left turn on to Glendale and you can anticipate a long wait. You might want to consider what I do. Go around the back of the store, make a left on to 7th street, then you get in to the turn lane for Glendale. It's easier on the nerves. read more

Some supermarkets have clearance items all the way in the back in a corner. I picked up some items at 50% off. Pretty good. They also had that English Muffin Bread that I was looking for. I went to Safeway because I received a gift card via Amazon. Staff refused to scan my gift card in my Google wallet because I didn't bring it printed on an 8.5" x 11" paper, forcing me to pay for my items out of pocket...welcome to the 21st century where everything is digital. I even asked nicely to just scan it this time and would bring the paper next time but they still refused.
