The deli is a bit lame, they no longer having a chef making up specials. I think after Covid, it all remodeled and there's just a boring sandwich place. They already sell deli meat so why the need for a sandwich place? It's not appreciated! But it's a beautiful giant store. I wish I had more time to look at the tea section.... This Fry's was once a Smith's and before that, a Smitty's. I have memories as a kid getting lost in the store and having my parents find the store's staff for help. While that was so many years ago, I have found this to be my go-to store off and on for many years. When it became a "Fancy Fry's" a number of years ago, I would frequent this store, and during the pandemic, it was through this location that I first used a curbside pick-up option for groceries. Needless to say, this has become a model store for me, and while I do not always shop at Fry's, when I decide to go to a Fry's, this is the one I typically go to. This location also has a mini Chompies restaurant in place (in the deli area) and wine tastings and cooking classes. I highly recommend everyone to visit it at least once. While I sometimes will stop by this store for garbage bags, toiletries, medication, or greeting cards, I often really only come here for food and drinks. After all, the store is known as Fry's Food (and Drug). I have learned quite well over the years where most items can be found from the typical end-caps to the regular aisles to the seasonal and clearance items to the front-of-store items. My favorite areas are the produce, floral, and Kosher areas. I have found most of my produce to be fresh, and while a bit more expensive than Safeway or other grocery stores, the flowers and plants are quite beautiful. As my wife and I like to food prep for the week, we look at the ads in advance to see what items are on sale or have digital coupons available on the Fry's Food app or website. There are occasional promotions, too; in fact, this past year on a customer appreciation day that was advertised by a news station in advance, the first so many customers received a bag with various items including a coupon envelope with three items. Each store also had so many gift cards randomly distributed in the bags. While I enjoyed a bag, I didn't receive a gift card. I was still delighted to even get anything. I appreciate that Fry's as a company (affiliate of Kroger) does things like this to help customers save money. If you go to their website (https://frysfood.com), you can find digital coupons, the weekly ad, holiday promotions, 4X gift card promotions, meal planning and recipes, a store locator, and Boost membership information (along with other information). Boost is a special membership that includes double fuel points, unlimited free delivery, streaming options (free Disney+ bundle with ads), and member exclusive offers all for $99 per year. If you're already paying for the Disney+ bundle with ads, you may be able to pay a bit less and get Boost for free. While there are many grocery stores in the Phoenix area, the Fry's food stores are special, and if it wasn't for the higher than average prices, I would be going to Fry's for all of my grocery shopping. read more

This man had been sitting in front of the card machine for at least an hour and a half when my mom and I entered until the minute we left. I'm a collector and enjoyer of the game he was stalking, and saw him tap the screen to see no product. I went and tapped the screen to see it lit up with 5 products to choose from. This grease ball pushed me out of the way and bought all the product claiming he was there waiting. Which is loitering and the company (and grocery store) literally don't permit loitering. There's an unspoken rule about the machines that real collectors would know that this dimwit obviously didn't know. If you tap, you get first pick, and you leave some for the next person! The kind woman who was checking out our groceries even agreed and asked why I didn't get to buy them!! This used to be our favorite Frys but it has seriously gone downhill, like many of the Frys stores. Though not as filthy as the 40th/Thunderbird location, it is no longer much better in customer service. We have had an issue the last three shops there. Last week we got andoulle sausage and was not only charged more than the price in counter, which we got our money back, when we got home we were shorted a sausage. Today our bagger stopped in the middle of bagging and started eating food in his apron and then LICKED his fingers and started bagging again. We abruptly told him to stop and bagged ourselves. We have been overcharged multiple times and they are always out of stock of several items needed. The only reason for the one star is the wonderful older gentleman who works in produce who is terrific and Janet at the wine bar is also fantastic. However, moving the wine bar was another poor decision. This is no longer a "signature" store. read more

It can be a bit overwhelming as it is so big but other than that, the location is awesome and now that Whole Foods is gone, they are the go to in the area. Nobody really compares other than the new Whole Foods but parking there is tough so Frys wins that game. read more

I went into Frys Marketplace at Shea and Tatum to order a cake for my daughter on Thursday for her party on Saturday. The website said 24 hour notice required. The girl working in the bakery said she didn't know how to take cake orders and I had to come back Friday morning. Show up at 8:30am on Friday to place my cake order giving 24 hours notice. The bakery manager refused and said she couldn't make the cake and she definitely couldn't put the sprinkles on the cake as my daughter wanted. The manager had no sincerity that I explained I was there the day before and couldn't give the cake order and could care less that they couldn't help me. Head to Safeway at Tatum and Greenway stressed that I wasn't going to be able to get the cake happen and the bakery department was MORE than accommodating. If you need a cake and you want it right head to Safeway. They made this with 24 hours notice and it looks identical to the photo my daughter found and wanted. For what it's worth this is the second time frys stores have done this to me. The last time they canceled a custom cake order for my husbands 50th surprise party ON THE DAY OF HIS PARTY. We've been shopping here since it was Smitty"s. Generally speaking, prices are fair, the help is helpful (attitudes now & then). & the inventory & brands are usually up to good standards. BUT - the place can be cleaned up a lot. The entrance always looks like a dump. Papers and towels all over the place. Carts: try to find one without a wrapper or used snot rag or wet cup in it. (Not Fry's fault - just inconsiderate customers.) Rustling carts isn't the most enjoyable work, but why can't the staffer wear gloves and carry a trash bag to empty the cart for the next person when doing that job? Help is hard to find these days. I understand the slowness at checkouts. Let's be a bit patient- the same problem exists at Safeway, Bashas, & AJ's. But those stores put on a much cleaner view at entry & throughout the store. read more

This is the perfect example of a business trying to be too fancy and not paying attention to the important staples. I googled it and was informed by Google that Fry's carries machines for refilling your Primo water bottles. Well apparently this super special fancy fries that has a bar in it doesn't even have a water station to refill. In addition, I asked for the noodles that are usually in a refrigerated section that every other store, even some Circle K's carry that you can boil in water for about two minutes, and it's ready. When I asked for employees, they looked at me like I was asking them for the solution to world peace. This place is all flare, and no substance, and will never ever shop here again. We usually love going to this store but recently it has been nothing but ridiculous. The checkout lanes today had no baggers at almost all of them. Our cashier was shoving our groceries down the belt and did not bag one item. My feminine products flew off of the belt into the walkway so that was a bit embarrassing. Self check out had 6 people standing around talking who worked there, as well had 3 managers standing by the door talking in a circle. The absolute worst customer service ever. Our cashier was Native American and was extremely rude but was not able to see her name tag. These other poor guys pushing the carts in, working their asses off as managers just stood around. I drive 10 miles to go to this grocery. Its clean, they have everything you want, and great customer service. Today the butcher Carl was especially helpful! This meat counter has the best steaks and the thickest cuts of Prime SRF. Their Pickup is always timely and organized. My order was cancelled on Christmas, bc they didn't have enough staff....you know, sometimes people call out at the holidays. completely understandable and I just went in and got what I needed. The guy who called was so nice. No biggie. For the first time today i wanted to leave this place a 1-star review, but it would not be fair to all the employees who make this place wonderful all the time. Anna at register 13 today was maybe just having a terrible day. She was slinging my groceries thru but the end was so full that they were crushing all the donuts and literally threw the bread to the end that I just bought. She didn't bag a SINGLE item and instead just literally walked away until I told an older gentleman I had met earlier that he may want to go to another line if he didn't want to bag a cart full of groceries all by himself. If you can't even do a simple job well Anna, why do you deserve to receive a paycheck for just showing up? Why come at all if you are going to make the company you work for look anything but great? I can't express my dissatisfaction with this grocery store enough. I have put several complaints to the online Survey and wrote letters to the headquarters regarding my personal experiences (with NO responses back). You would think being located in Paradise Valley it would have incredible customer service with store Managers who care about their customers and their staff. However, this has NOT been our experience. We've given this Fry's more than enough chances, 2/26/23 was our last time. Were done with bagging our own groceries, cashiers coughing on our purchased food, staff licking their fingers - then touching our items. Management: Please take the time to: acknowledge your customers when they come to you with feedback, help your employees that did decide to come to work when they are needing extra hands, educate your employees on the importance of proper food handling and safety procedures. read more
