A huge thank you to Jude at Safeway for his kindness and honesty! I accidentally left my iPhone in my grocery cart and didn't realize it until I had already driven home. When I rushed back to the store, Jude was waiting by the carts holding my phone. He recognized my son from the photo on my phone's lock screen and used that to help get in touch with him so my phone could be returned. I was incredibly relieved and so grateful for his quick thinking, honesty, and willingness to help. Employees like Jude make such a difference, and Safeway is lucky to have him. Safeway is usually crowded and the service can be slow to very slow. Good part, there is a crap ton of items, goods, not really any good toys though, and foods. And the ambiance... LOUD. I hope you found this review helpful. read more

I live near this Safeway and have regularly ordered groceries from them and Fry's for pickup. Safeway has the best pickup service of any store grocery or otherwise in Oro Valley. They do a great job of keeping items in stock and making sure your order is ready on time. I actually don't order from the Fry's anymore due to terrible inconsistencies. I've used the pickup service for the Frys on Lambert, Wal-mart, and Target and they're always missing items or just getting things wrong. I have even had several occasions where the other stores pushed my pickup order several hours later than scheduled. I have not had a single problem with this Safeway in the 3 years since I moved to this area and my order is ready on time every time. I generally find the staff to be friendly and helpful, but let's be real everyone has a bad day at some point, but for the most part you can expect friendly service. read more

First time not cooking for 39 guests. Ordered Thanksgiving dinner for four people. The dinner included a rotisserie turkey breasts, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, rolls and cranberry sauce....it was delicious....and we're foodies believe it, or not!! The turkey breast was juicy with great flavor, the cranberry sauce was yummy and the dressing was moist. Will definitely skip the all day cooking for Safeway's pre-order dinner. I'm done with this store which is a shame because it's usually on the way home for me. On multiple occasions I've stopped in to get some staples we've run out of and the shelf is completely empty. How can a store run out of salt? or half-and-half coffee creamer? My parents have the same issue. It's become a running joke that there is "the lady" who always buys all the items before we get to the store. They should install some self check-out kiosks as well. I ordered a pick up at your store for this afternoon. I frequent Walmart and others who provide this service and wanted to see how your service was. Horrible. Order #4453477 They couldn't find my order when I arrived. I received a phone call from Rueben saying that my order was loaded on their truck for delivery and my card was already charged. Really? I then got a call saying that it would be delivered around 8pm. Really? I cancelled and will never order again from you. I will share my bad experience with the school PTA, church, etc. This is a service that you offer to us and your crew had no idea how to get organized. No apology. Nothing. read more

The layout of this store makes no sense. Cured meat in two opposite corners of the store. Lousy selection. Prices are higher than Frys so you might think if you shop the sales you'll be getting ahead but NOPE - sale items are often completely and *entirely* cleaned out. Want a rain check? Sure go stand in line 3 people deep at customer service. This isn't a one-time bad experience. It's literally like this ALL the time. This store is a hot bed of the entitled old person mentality of Oro Valley. Every time I go some old jerk tries to cut in front of me at the register. Why so uncivilized? I really enjoy this Safeway. It is located just inside of the boundaries of Rancho Vistoso in Oro Valley. It is a clean modern looking store and has friendly employees. The thing that sets this store apart from some of the others is they carry named brand items and I am not stuck with a generic product that I am wondering how it will taste once I get it home. Inside they have a Starbucks retail location where you will find locals having their daily coffee and catching up in the mornings. This Starbucks has a nice seating area and is fairly quick. Across from the Starbucks at the deli counter they offer a sandwich bar where they offer fresh made to order sandwiches. The deli counter also offers other prepared food items along with the standard deli counter products. A pharmacy is located to the rear of the store and a Safeway gas station is in the parking lot. The bakery has some pretty good baked goods and we do enjoy the sweets and breads from it. The produce and meat departments also offers a wide variety of things. The shopping carts are located inside they are not full of trash and are pretty clean. The Safeway rewards card is super easy to use and all I have to do is put in my phone number. It is worth becoming a member even if you only shop here a little. The lines are never long and when more than a few people are waiting more checkers are called to the front. This store is a true pleasure to shop at. read more

I have shopped here since I moved to Oro Valley 16 years ago and the store had not been open for very long. For 16 years, I have seen the same people working there and they all are friendly and helpful. The store is always clean. The produce is always fresh. I am a huge fan that they offer so many organic fruits and vegetables! I was really ecstatic when they started carrying many vegan products such as sour cream, cheese, yogurt, butter, meat ect. but lately those items seem to be disappearing from the shelves. read more

I moved to Oro Valley January 2018. I've been a loyal Safeway shopper for over 40 years and planned to make this store my home store. Unfortunately, more times than not I have had negative experiences with the pharmacy as well as the grocery checkout clerks. Two of the ladies in the pharmacy waiting on customers picking up prescriptions are the rudest, arrogant women I have encountered. They made me feel that I was a nuisance and in the way of them doing whatever they were doing. No hello, no thank you, not even checking with me that the prescription was correct. I was the only person in line. I've also experienced the unwelcoming no hello, no thank you from several of the grocery checkout clerks. I understand that we all have a bad day; however, this should not come across to your customers. Also, shop-talk needs to stay in the breakroom and shouldn't be discussed in front of customers. This store desperately needs to revisit quality customer service training. Customers are your job. Without them, the company doesn't need you. Sadly, I plan to move my grocery and pharmacy business elsewhere. read more

I am giving you a two star review today because you haven't fixed important matters. Your sales should be in your system and a customer shouldn't have to wonder of they get the deal or not, but you have more than your fair share of screw ups on those. One aspect of that is: Your digital deals are almost impossible to scan in by phone so fix that stupidly managed program or kill it. Second idea is train everyone. Teach staff what things are. A bag girl who is told by the cashier to pull out the nectarines back out of the bag because they didn't scan right had no idea what nectarines were. Kind of weird to me: I had to help her pull out an item she had just put in the bag and placed in the cart. read more

This is my first posting ever. I've been a loyal shopper for 40 years but I've now made 3 trips to the store and 2 have been very negative experiences. I can not find anyone to help locate things in the store. For example, salami was advertised and I pulled up the weekly online ad and asked the counter person where I would find it since I'd been searching without luck. She hadn't a clue and said Lisa could help me if she was around. I went to the eat dept finally and a young man showed me where to look. 1. Salami in 3 different areas 2. If you don't know, find out rather than waving a customer off and told good luck! Today I accidentally got into an express line with 5 items over the limit. I wasn't aware until the the sales clerk turned to the lady behind and apologized for some people who can't read signs. I apologized immediately and the clerk gave me a nasty look and checked me out. When I was bagging my things I said quietly that it wasn't necessary to be rude and she said I WAS NOT RUDE TO YOU! No, but your loud snarky comment to the person behind me was... Some customer service training is in order. read more

One technician is very rude and unhelpful. I asked what was wrong with my prescription but she only said "doctor hasn't gotten back." And I had to guess what that meant. Then magically it's ready and billed through the insurance the next day, and I have to come back again to get it. And she claims she told me it needed a PA, which of course was never stated the day before. And all this time (and every other time I've seen her from just shopping) she wears a thin, see through, pointless "mask" that literally protects nobody. I don't know how this behavior is acceptable. The pharmacy intern is very kind and helpful and always willing to go out of his way. (And is wearing an appropriate mask whenever I see him). read more

After Fry's continued to say they were going to put in a store at Saddlebrooke and were just stringing us along, I tried Safeway. They are a much friendlier, cleaner store with better brands. During the food shortage, and I don't know if it was related, they did switch a few manufacturers for the Lucerne line. Their Irish Cream coffee creamer is a shell of its former self, for example. The cashiers are speedy, there are plenty and I have not run into bad service in two years. Their turnover seems low, which in this day and age is amazing. read more

I just moved here from out of state had a bunch of items I asked for a Rewards card so I can get the items that were on sale which were a lot and they said they no longer do it in the store and I had to do it at home I said okay well can you scan it for me so I have time to go home and do it and she said no you have to do it at home so I said well take away all the stuff that's that's on the rewards thing then so they put half my stuff back instead of just scanning it or helping me get a rewards card very unprofessional! read more

My recent experience at Safeway was on a Saturday morning at 9:30. There were two lanes open, the 20 item and full cart line. Customers were in a long line at the fast checkout. I mentioned to the manager that they needed to open another lane. She said they called for more help but no one in the store appeared. When I said to the clerk that Walmart and Fry's have self-checkout, she claimed they didn't want it there because they value customer contact. Well, I value my time and now brace myself for poor service if I have to pickup a few items. Further, the employees at Fry's seem so much happier. read more

House full of company and out of coffee forced me into this store from hell. There really is no change in this store, despite having a new manager, except this: From now on...the only checkout stand available will be the express lane until 9am. So if you are brave enough to shop here there is no need to do your weekly shopping before 9am. I know that we want to start our errands for the day before it gets hot and crowded in the area. The store thinks that they are saving money this way on payroll. But do you save money with your customers going elsewhere to shop where they have full service and access to everything? Waited at the deli counter for 10 minutes when the woman working finally looked up and said, "I'll be with you in a minute!". She left the area, went somewhere in the back and came back to the counter 5 minutes later. I almost left, but needed the item badly. She got my order and threw it up on the counter. Without a word, she then turned her back to me. It was obvious that I had interrupted her work. Like in the previous review the employees do not see the customers as their work. Of course she wasn't wearing her name badge so I can't call the store to speak with the manager about the continued deplorable customer service that never seems to change. I'm sure that she doesn't wear her badge on purpose. So have a nice day...you hateful little witch! read more
