Very old and dark store. Employees are often indifferent and not at all interested in helping customers. We moved from Seattle area and the Fred Meyers were light, bright, modern and staff very courteous. Will not be frequenting this store even though it is close by. Safeway Rancho Vistoso is our go to...very well run, stocked and all employees very customer oriented! read more

One thing I always look for in a grocery store is this it clean? the store was very clean. The other thing is the staff, the staff were very friendly and helpful and they were all wearing masks. I would recommend getting the VIP card that gives you a discount when you scan some of your items. They were working on making sure everything looked well stocked and orderly. The vegetables seem to be plentiful and for a typical family grocery store that seemed like they had a fair selection of organic items. They also had grass-fed beef and bacon that was uncured. They also have some individually prepped items which are good for a senior that may want to not have to prepare everything. They even have some Frozen organic items which were particularly of interest to me. They had the typical selection of soda pop but with the added twist of having individual sodas available that were made with cane sugar that I enjoy. I've been when it's been crowded and not crowded and the line through the checkout area has always been fast. It's a complete grocery store with about everything that you could want. read more

These stores need to be cleaned up. The aisles are narrow. The stores are dark and depressing. There's too much clutter in the aisles. I recently shopped at a Publix in Florida. It was well-lit, wide and organized aisles, and one of the most pleasant shopping experiences I have had. I shop at the Frys on Oracle Road in Oro Valley. It's a nightmare. read more

Terrible experience with cashier Peggy. Harassing me and my girlfriend about our legal forms of ID. In AZ, after turning 21, there is a 30 day grace period before having to change to a horizontal ID. Peggy (with a pretentious and unapologetic smile) refused my vertical ID without looking at the date of birth (I was still in the 30 day grace period)and when I pointed out the date of birth and the law regarding the 30 days she got snarky and I chuckled at her rudeness to which she responded by saying she doesn't "have" to sell the alcohol. I told her I would just go to a different cashier. And then Peggy told me that "she wont sell it to you either if you want to have an attitude" and then the bagger intervened and asked Peggy to "please stop". Peggy continued to begrudgingly check my groceries out. 2nd incident was today when Peggy refused my girlfriends official AZDMV MobileID (which is legally recognized as the exact same as the plastic ones). Peggy had a condescending smile on her face while she refused the ID. We had to remove the alcohol from our purchase, go to the car to put our groceries away, come back in to grab the alcohol from the shelf again, and go to a different cashier (who accepted the mobile ID with no issue). Kinda bizzarre to have a "Karen" on the other side of the cash register. Usually customers are the ones being difficult...not the cashiers. Super unprofessional and makes my shopping experience drastically worse each time I interact with Peggy. read more

I know there is no mask mandate, sadly so, since very few practice personal responsibility they would not know what that was even if it slammed them in the face. So I'm at the check out & the bagger is unmasked! So, I said to the cashier, she is not masked, I don't want her touching my food, so the bagger walks away, good, until another maskless bagger shows up, I stated the same thing, the dunce just stands there breathing on my stuff. I usually post positive reviews on my grocery stores as times are different right now. BUT, have to post this as I'm really angry. Sent my husband to the Frys at Rooney Ranch in Oro Valley to buy Choice sirloin steaks, on sale for $4.99 a pound. I fully trusted the butchers there to help him, (yes, he asked for packages as none were on the floor) Yes, too good to be true. Almost half was fat. 1 pound of fat, 1.5 lbs meat!!!! To be fair, I'm sure Frys would have refunded me if I had brought it back, but I was in the middle of cooking and was pressed for time. Had to cut my recipe way back, though. Frys, if the meat is crappy, please don't try to sell as "Choice" on sale. read more

This is about the pharmacy, not the grocery. I liked that they had the COVID booster available within a day of the announcement of expanding to front line health care workers and scheduled the appointment. But I ended up walking out without getting it because it was so completely disorganized. I arrived 15 minutes prior to my scheduled appointment and waited 20 minutes behind a single customer having a prescription filled. Yes 20 minutes handling the customer ahead of me, and it took two people at times. The woman handling the computer just didn't seem to know what she was doing, and ended up soliciting assistance from her co-worker while checking me in as well. She asked me the same questions I'd answered online (allergies, insurance provider, etc.). And the physician/pharmacist/technician who would have been actually administering the vaccination even joined in but seemed equally confused even about what type of vaccination I was getting (again, booster, as noted on the appointment). And after all that there would have still been a wait behind other people - which means they had to have been waiting there at least 25 minutes already since I waited 20 behind the one person ahead of me. I guess I shouldn't expect them to handle it like a CVS or Walgreens but I did and I was not happy at all about the experience and won't go there or any other Fry's for vaccinations of any kind. They just don't seem set up to handle it. read more

We live in the area and go to this location all the time. Today me and my wife went to buy some food and beers for a bbq we were having. We went through the self checkout and a girl named Jessica refused us to purchase the alcohol because my wife had a Mexico Passport "which is her only ID currently as we're going through the immigration process." She said "we don't accept any forum of foreign ID's" I called her out on it and said she was mistaken. She then got extremely rude and sassy. We went and complained to the manager after this experience. Jessica is a horrible example of what a employee should be. Rude, unhelpful, and racist. I managed grocery stores for 4 years through college and I'm a current business owner. If this was my employee I would have her terminated immediately. I just left this store and promise I will never go back. I have been avoiding it for some time, but it is the closest to where we live. It looks like all the things that I want to post have already been posted by others over several months. Obviously, these concerns have not been taken seriously for it just continues the steady decline. It has always been a dirty store and in the past I would ask the cashier to wipe down the belt. It's our food people! Don't even get me started on the whole check out your own groceries issue. There is a sign at the front entrance stating they require masks. I saw a grand total of one employee (bakery) wearing a mask. I walked away from the deli last week because they weren't masked. Really??? It seems like even in non covid times, people cutting your meat should be masked. As if that isn't enough, they have a message playing over the loudspeaker stating that they are concerned about the Delta variant and strongly encourage associates and customers to wear masks. It's laughable. The girl bagging our groceries had a cough and proceeded to cough all over my groceries- probably 5-6 times. I'm sorry...of course she couldn't help it but that's why we wear masks!!! I get that we're all vaccinated; however, we're learning that these vaccines are losing efficacy. Here's the bottom line: This has been one of the worst periods of our lives. We are all sick to death of lockdowns, isolation, masks, mandates, politicians fighting over this pandemic to garner votes, blah, blah, blah. I have not seen my grandchildren in 20 months. horrible experience at self checkout w/ Bobbie. was refusing to sell me alcohol since my sister happened to be with me despite myself clearly overage, giving her my ID. she insisted it's an AZ law yet there's no signage in the liquor department stating you cannot have anyone under 21 with you if you intend to purchase. she was clearly on a power trip and looking for an argument. lucky for me she "made an exception" despite her insisting she could lose her job over the situation... i made sure to let the manager i spoke with on the phone aware of this and her awful behavior. read more

Good Frys- Not a super store location but nice, clean, and really good produce, deli, a huge liquor section, and LOTS of self-checkouts and tellers so minimal waiting, if at all. I like the flowers area- lots of sales on plants and things so a great value if you need bouquets and things for co-workers or loved ones. Nice little seating area with a Starbucks. read more

This is the Fry's I shop for our groceries on a regular basis. There are two other Fry's, a Safeway and a Basha's that are closer to our house. Yes, I go out of my way to shop here because it is worth it. Earlier this year I tried to switch to the newly remodeled and expanded store on Ina Rd at Thornydale but I switched back after several shopping trips. I do not fault the store on Ina but for other reasons I will not discuss here. The Fry's on La Canada at Lambert is also closer but I find that store too small, aisles more crowded, arrangement of goods illogical, and less items in stock that I need. So after shopping there for a year and during a mini-remodel, I finally switched to this Fry's and I am so glad I did. This Fry's is more logically laid out and there seems to be more room. The other customers at this location seem to be more friendly and pleasant when maneuvering through the aisles. To me, this can be important in reducing the stress of spending a couple of hundred dollars on food as quickly as possible and getting the best deals, i.e. taking advantage of all the coupons. I like the friendly meat dept staff as well. The cashiers know me and the baggers are helpful. I've also found some great deals on non-food items on the sidewalks in front of the store. I also try to shop as early in the morning as possible when the least amount of people are shopping to make the trip go smoother. Half the time I have to bring along my 3 yr old so the less people around the less chance of her getting hit by a cart since she likes to walk with me so much. Another plus is they seem to have more cart returns in the lot so you don't have to walk as far to dispose of your cart safely. read more

Today, I was a little upset when they announced over their PA system that everyone must wear a mask because their statement doesn't line up with the county mandate which states there are exceptions to the mask rule but after reading two comments below I understand why they made the silly statement. The selection is OK, but the store looks run-down and dirty. They charge if you want cash back. I guess handing out a $20 bill is a lot of work. They frequently have few checkers, and so you're forced to use the self-checkout. Many of the cashiers are rude and not very helpful. Nikki is the worst. She's downright snotty and disrespectful. The Fry's on Lambert is much better. And the Safeway at Tangerine doesn't have as good a selection, but at least the staff are friendly and helpful. read more

Well we've been using this Fry's for years now and in the past 6 months we've seen it go from a "friendly let me help you store" to a whiney "we don't care, we just work here store". Today we shopped there and were booted from two lines because they closing those checkouts. With melting items we were forced once again to use the self checkout. Don't really mind it if you've only got a few items so.... We pushed on until: Not enough room to hold what you're checking. Complaining computer voice. Having to wait for a clerk to come over and act like a jerk, press a few buttons and fly away. Complained to manager about these problems, who like most managers could care less. The best part was leaving and having the same jerk-clerk smile and wish us a nice day. read more

Susanna, the bagging girl had her mask below her nose. I asked her politely if she would put it over her nose while she bagged my groceries. She said back to me very sternly, "No, I will not!" Her manager was checking my groceries and I complained to her. She did nothing. I asked for the store manager. Susanna, said "Yeah let James come, like he's going to do anything" as she laughed with her manager. James came. He was wearing a mask properly and was very nice with me as I'm sure he's trained to do. Was he sincere? I think not as he did not approach Susanna as I left. I do not like this store. The aisles are too close together and they always put displays into the aisles to make them even harder to navigate. I'm hoping that a new superstore of another company moves in as close so I don't have to continue to shop at Fry's. Most of the time I will go out of my way to avoid going there. Wow! have been a customer of this Fry's for 20 years... Just totally amazed at the quality of the meat. Bought what was listed as a " skirt steak " had friends for dinner, started to prepare the beef, as I opened the package it was rolled and appeared to be a large round steak, rolled up. Against my wonderment, I continued to cook it.OMG, absolutely the very worst cut of beef , EVER! Stringy, is the only comment. The entire meal was thrown out..... this is not looking for a refund. I have come to this Frys for years, it was always a pleasant experience. In the last recent months there is an unkind person working here. She is rude and not happy at all. She seems to be on mainly in evenings. They may need to take some Studer lessons for Customer service. I unfortunately don't think I will be back. I will drive a few miles to get good customer service. The Lambert store is happy and welcoming. The Thornydale Store is busy and very kind regardless. We all work hard and all have to show respect and kindness in the workplace. Smiles instead of frowns will keep a store busy. read more

I used to love this store up until about a year ago. Customer service has completely went downhill. They have closed all the express lanes forcing customers to scan their own groceries. This is always a challenge since I buy lots of produce, equipment is sensitive and always requires that I wait for an employee to push a button to allow me to continue scanning. They don't seem to care any longer about their customers. This store has become so crowded that I tend to go later on Sundays. By then, many of the products I'm looking for are stocked out. I'd rather spend a few dollars more and go to Albertsons!! read more

I enjoy shopping at this fry's, a lot of the negative comments here are beyond what people can do in retail. One you can not bash a place because a lot of retail stores are not able to force you to do anything. You have ever right to be disappointed in the man kind of humanity but writing a negative view because of what a customer is doing and staff being told they are not be able to approach a customer because of rules and lawsuits really could happen of maybe discrimination if they corner someone because they believe in something else is ridiculous. I know Oro Valley is a lot of older folks but bottom line is look around it's not just grocery stores that are in this same predicament it's all retail and if you complain because your food is being coughed , or sneezed like bag the food yourself. And also do people not clean their food now days? Yeah it's an inconvenience to you to bag it yourself but people need to realize that during the pandemic people were so ugly to retail workers and people are probably just as tired from hearing you complain about things that they can't change if they wanted too! Just a friendly reminder when you want to write a bad comment it's not the workers fault but the ceo of that actual branch if any. The folks at Frys are friendly and helpful and they have some good produce. However, when shopping at food stores it is convenient to receive some cash back rather than having to make an extra trip to the bank. Recently, as if Frys don't receive enough profit from sales, they have begun to charge for some cash back, even $20.00 to the tune of .50 cents per request. This "nickel and diming" by Frys seems petty and cheap. However, I am thankful to them, because I shop now more at Trader Joe's, where cash back is not a problem. This helps my busy day. read more

I was in this frys waiting in line for a deli order. I couldn't believe I heard a deli guy call a customer an asshole. I was beyond shocked. This kid I hope was fired. This used to be our go-to grocery store since the Albertson's in the next shopping center over shut down about a decade ago. It's reasonably priced and it's close to my abode down Palisades. Over the last few years, I find myself avoiding it. Between the loud music, rude personnel, and worst of all, crowds. Aisles, crosswalks, parking lots, etc.... All crowded. I'd rather go almost anywhere else. Even if it means spending more money. I'm that done with this place. Could the crowds be blamed on the sudden surge of development of apartments and housing developments, with more on the way? Quite possibly. Maybe another grocery store should move into the area. read more
