Sushi Bar at Safeway on Nave in Novato is the BEST!! I don't shop at this Safeway too often, So I can't tell you about the rest of the store. But I come here for lunch 2 times a week. The person that owns this particular Sushi bar is so awesome and helpful. She puts aside my favorite order. Or she prepared it in minutes when I arrive! The fish is fresh, the rice just right. The price can't be beat. I highly recommend this Sushi Bar. I don't even know if it has a name other than the Sushi Bar at Safeway on Nave Lane in Novato, but go here and go here often! Safeway offers pretty good prices on stuff that is normally overpriced elsewhere. I highly recommend getting the rewards card to save money. Otherwise, you'll be spending like $100 for 2 bags of groceries. Plus the $0.10 for each bag lol I use the self checkout often if I'm only getting a few things. Otherwise, I just go stand in one of the long ass lines. How quickly you get through depends on the bagging. Most of the time there is no bagger so it's me and the cashier having a bagging race, basically. A lot of people just stand there while the cashier bags everything. Don't be that person. The only part of the store I have any issue with is the sandwich counter because it has taken me over 30 min to get a sandwich in the past. Other than that, the gas station is cheap and convenient. The pharmacy is fast and efficient. The meat counter, sometimes takes a while for them to see me standing there but I guess I could holler at the dude and he may get there faster. They have a large wine selection from very cheap to ... moderately cheap. The bakery never disappoints. I do wish there was a water dispenser at this location so I removed one star for that. read more

I'm very frustrated with this store and the management who has excuses for everything. The store is never fully stocked. They offer complaint sheets, you fill them out and nothing changes. Great grocery store, I shop here every week. Some of the sales are deceptive if you shop here often though, they will seem like a great deal, when in actuality it's not. Produce section is pretty large, I especially like the selection of chiles, onions, and the quality of cilantro since I make a lot of salsa at home. The gas station is the cheapest in Novato normally. read more

Today I have the worst experience in this Safeway location my wife and I where here buying groceries and for the fists time we where using some coupons, and when We got to the register to pay for our food the register at the time was NORMA treat it us so bad with saying things like there was no time for her to apply the coupons and if we wanted to get prices cheaper go to dollar three I felt so bad and angry at the same time because I have never had someone theatre me the way this lady did, honestly I don't think Will come back here ever again I can believe there is people like that working here so unprofessional. Ever since this Safeway opened at Hamilton Landing, I've been a big fan of shopping here. The aisles are wide enough so you don't feel like you're trapped in the store. If I'm in a hurry and I only need to get a few items, I cut down my wait time by using the self-checkout lanes. I usually find myself shopping at this Safeway more than the one in the Northgate 1 Shopping Center in Terra Linda because I find the employees to be more friendly at Hamilton Landing. read more

Shopping at this Safeway is not a good experience. The staff are non existent and when you do have to interact with one them the experience is not pleasant. You can tell they just don't want to be there not to mention they have no interest in helping you out. Lines are always long and there are never enough check out employees. The self check out technology is horrible and constantly asks you to remove items from the bagging area. The parking lot is terrible and always crowded. I'd much rather drive the extra 5 mins to the downtown Safeway location as it's an older store, but a much better experience with friendly employees, easy parking and no lines at check out. read more

Yesterday as I was walking in the parking lot making my way into the store, I was assaulted by a store employee. The assault took the form of the employee ramming a bakery cart into me. It was not an accident. He knew full well what he was doing. I complained to the manager. read more

The selection here is great and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The lines can be quite long at times but they are usually good about opening more lanes when that happens. Went into my Safeway today with a unique problem. I'm a vegan and had to buy meaty stuff for a guest. So, I'm thinking this is going to be horrible and I head back to that area to check it out. As I mosey around clueless an employee approaches me and asks if I need help. I explain my dilemma to Jacob and he says no problem!In like 2 minutes I'm done and on my way! I have to wait in line all hours of the day. Often 30-60 minutes waiting because of insufficient number of checkout clerks, day or night. This is a large and very busy store. At night, there is often only 1 checkout clerk - worse than 7-11 stores!! The fault lies with Corporate, Regional and District levels, who pressure store manager to cut costs. As a result, I will not shop this Safeway store. The store gets traffic only because of a discounted gas station (based on store purchase volume). Without that, nobody would shop there. I have two stories of employee abuse, but since Yelp does not allow for third-party anecdotes, I cannot report it here. Products requested by me are not ordered or stocked. This store is large and modern. The employees are excellent, but working under difficult conditions. The store got off on the right foot, but because of dysfunctional management, has deteriorated to the point where everyone complains. If Safeway wants to compete with Paradise, Target, Whole Foods and other local competitors, it had better get it's act together! read more

This store -- consistent with all Safeway stores -- is disgusting. It is filled with genetically modified pesticide-ridden lowest quality food. Even the lighting is depressing when I go in to purchase kitty litter or toilet tissue, which are the only things I buy there. When I am in that store, I do NOT feel good -- so I don't go in that store. I shop at Good Earth Market in Fairfax, California which specializes in highest quality ORGANIC food from local growers. Their produce section is exquisite. Most of the produce was picked in the early morning hours, delivered before the store opened, and they sell it through that day for the most part. I absolutely LOVE this market. I'm worth it!!! read more

This Safeway is awesome. They have everything stocked all the time, and they always have great sales, especially on one of my necessary items, sparkling water. The clerks are always friendly and helpful and even late at night it's not hard to get out of there fast. It's only during rush hour and early in the day when the line is long as hell. But most of the time they'll call more cashiers. It's the San Anselmo Safeway that's horrible!! Novato Safeway rocks :) I shop there for all the basics. I even trust the sushi rolls. I love all the doughnuts they Have and the breads are freshly baked too! Plus even their potato salad isn't half bad(and I've had my fair share of potato salad). I like that they have coinstsr and red box machines too! I just wish they had one of those resell gift card machines like the San Rafael Safeway. We visited 3-4 times this past weekend as we were staying in the adjacent hotel. Nice that is is open 24 hours however it smells terrible! Like rotten meat that has not been cleaned up. This Safeway is pretty major. The deli section has a ton of pre-made sandwiches/sushi/food above and beyond other locations I have seen. They also have a bulk section with raw nuts, so that was pretty cool. Checkout has been a pain a few times though. read more

Great people - not that customer service was ever a problem in the past. But there is something a bit more relaxed, or should I say genuine...? Customer service, (i.e. being helpful and polite) is always a must in this type of job situation, but there are times when it seems like the willingness to provide exceptional customer service seems 'forced'. in comparison to the Corte Madera and Mill Valley Safeways this place is golden! First off, the aisles are nice and big. The store is a large Safeway, complete with Jamba Juice and Starbucks? Good size produce, meat, and wine sections. I also noticed the ethnic food sections in this Safeway have more to offer. Wish I lived farther north so it could be my regular Safeway! read more

Lots of choices , try's to hard to be up scale . And the baker in the bakery needs to learn how to cook with a brick oven . You just can't follow the same instructions as cooking in a conventional oven . And that's why most of the bread is burned on the outside and to soft inside. read more

Great store with very friendly people and well stocked. We usually shop at Mollie Stone'd but this Safeway had everything we needed and more. We found Prime beef, & two sizes of King crab legs. Found out that on Fridays, they have $5 specials. Today it was USDA Choice bone in NY Strip steaks for $5/lb. The checkout lanes were fast with lots of people helping bag. read more

I went to Safeway at 1PM this afternoon to get a quick Starbucks latte. I was fourth in line. Twenty five minutes later, I was 2nd in line. The woman behind the counter was working alone but at a distinctly leisurely pace chatting up customers and passing employees alike. After the woman who was 1st in line placed an order for four different espresso drinks, the woman behind the counter quietly left without a word. After a few minutes, she returned carrying supplies that she then began putting away although she had yet to start on the four ordered drinks. At this point, realizing that it could be another 15 minutes before I would be able to order, I left without a latte. Consider this: It is one thing to be short staffed, it is quit another to be staffed by incompetent personnel. This Safeway earns one star on both counts. read more

Wow, no words for how f'd up this gas station is at the Nave Dr Safeway. I pulled up to their gas lines tonight around 7pm. I was in the second to left line, and I had to pull forward, slightly to the right of the driver in front of me, to get out of the way of the entrance road behind me. The line to my right, for cars with their gas caps on the right, was 2 car widths away to my right. A few minutes later, I look up and an attendant at the front of the line is waving his hands to me to move forward. I move forward a bit, and then signaled to the car to my left, that there is a space up front. She waved her hand at me. So I pull forward, to the front of the line, in front of a large camper. I pulled forward and then back in to clear his vehicle. Next thing I know, the attendant that signaled for me to move forward, is standing at my window, complaining to me that I was supposed to go into the right lane. When I told him my gas cap was on the left and I was in the left lane, he argued with me and told me that I was waiting in the right lane! That line was two car widths away from where my car was. He is an incompetent liar. I voiced a few curse words at him, then pulled all the way around to the back of the line again. He didn't stop then. He yelled at me, with his broken balls of disrespect, "Ya, now you are in the right lane!" I'm lucky he wasn't standing in front of me when he said that. I might have driven my car right into his mouth. Safeway must have video cameras in the gasoline area. The managers can watch his bullshit for themselves!! read more

The folks at the pharmacy are amazing! The pharmacists (Dr. Khaled) are very professional and knowledgeable. It is a very busy pharmacy considering it is the only Safeway pharmacy in Novato. I am a physician and I always recommend this pharmacy to my patients. The deli selection is decent but could be better. The organic veggie and fruit selection is great. read more

Have been going there for years, but it time to change. I am so totally fed up with the errors, lack of knowledge, waiting and waiting.

For weeks now, when I go to Safeway on Nave Dr., Which is usually crazy busy, there is only one checkout line open for more than 15 items and the self check-out, that's it. It's painful to shop there. I waited in line for 20 minutes tonight to check out and then I had to bag my own groceries. Is Safeway a poor co-op now? Life's too short for this store, stay away unless you have time on your hands! read more

I have shopped here exclusively for 11 years. Loved it. Knew to stay out of one checkers lane (WM, 40s, nice dark hair) but he cannot multitasks. If he talks, he stops checking. Well now they have the automatic checker and even less employees. I hate them, especially when I am buying $200 worth of food. But it is the only choice when there are 2 aisles for 15 items and a really long one for full carts. There is not enough space to unload all the groceries so you have half the groceries that you have scanned and half full of bags and a stupid voice telling you to put an item in the bagging area. I already have a job, I don't want to ring up my own groceries. Hire some damn people, the store is very nice in every other way. Will never shop there again. read more
