It's not any one store, it's all Safeway Stores since Albertson's took over. The produce department has slipped the worst. I would go back occasionally to the deli because they continued to carry Primo Taglia products. But today when I got home I realized that the item I bought was NOT the same Primo Taglia they had two weeks ago, although it was packaged with their name on it. Deceptive. "Creamy" Havarti, Ha, it was like sawdust. In the garbage. I hope consumers will demand more and shop elsewhere until Safeway/Albertson's gets the message. read more

This store seems poorly managed, the shelves are not stocked the staff seem disgruntled and they do not care. The right doors close very early and I've seen multiple people assume the store is closed and leave. There is no sign saying use other doors. They lost their liquor license for quite some time not sure if they have it back yet but overall this is not a great atmosphere to shop. They also leave sale items up that have expired... just pathetic. read more

My husband dreads this location whenever we are in town. Two reasons: clustered parking lot and long lines. I would not shop at this spot if it was my local shopping spot, but enjoy the variety of items the store has. We bought chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert, they were so good. "surprise & delight" is a new buzz phrase among marketing and customer service types. This Safeway clearly got the message. It's a beautiful store, designed to bring something like the Whole Foods experience to the masses. It's got everything - service bakery, deli, an in-store Starbucks, a Jamba Juice, a gelato bar!, even a nut bar (no kidding) where you can craft your own peanut/pecan/cashew/almond butter concoction. Plus the aisles are wide, everything is lit like jewelry. All in all a terrific job. But that's only the beginning. There's an attached gas station where - and this isn't a typo - they were selling unleaded regular for $3.71 a gallon. Plus, they were giving away random goodies to get buzz going. I won an iPod shuffle! Yippee! Safeway's taken their lumps in the past as a huge corporate entity, but, hey, when they get it right, you've got to tip your hat. read more

Who doesn't love a nut bar? Conveniently located just off the highway, this makes for an excellent stop to get all your necessary Safeway needs. I found plenty of parking, super helpful staff, no more than two people waiting at any of the registers, and a fantastic little nut bar I'm not usually a big Safeway shopper but as far as Safeways go, this one is certainly not too shabby. read more

First and foremost, I LOVE that this Safeway is open 24hrs. Shout outs to a few of the awesome employees: - The store manager, Jamie. She is always a sweetheart and goes above & beyond for every customer. - Concha (I think she's the assistant store manager?) - Porsha, shes one of the lead cashiers...She always has a smile on her face and makes every shopping experience a good one. - Petra at the customer service booth. What isn't to love about Petra??! The store is always clean, everything stocked on the shelves...Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because the lines can get a little ridiculous at times. read more

Beware: after using debit card at the pump this past Saturday, got three charges on my account for odd amounts, at Safeway San Rafael and San Anselmo, adding up to over $100. I was out of the Bay Area yesterday when this took place, so obviously there is a skim device on one of the pumps. Interesting that this person ran up a bill only at other Safeways. It's a Safeway ... so you probably don't expect much. But this one is a step up from most. The store, which was only opened a few years ago, was recently remodeled and although it took some time to get reoriented to where everything is things are better planagrammed. Aisles are wider and I don't feel like I'm in LA traffic. The produce section is mighty and full of fresh items daily. The folks at the seafood/meat counter are helpful and friendly (say hi to Victor). There is a large self checkout area which I tend to use unless i have a full cart. Near the eggs in the back is a large clearance and dented item discount area where everything is at least 50% off - don't miss it! I always find something good there. The staff is generally friendly and you will start to recognize the better ones over time. I like this place. I would give it 5 stars if they had better staffing at the bakery and the water dispenser hadn't been removed. read more

It's 10:50 on a Wednesday morning. I just finished selecting my groceries at Safeway and was very pleased with the selection price and cleanliness of the store. Now I'm trying to buy all the good stuff I selected. Sad face. The only check stand open is the 15 or less line. It's 6 people deep. The person in front of me just complained to the checker she matter of fact said "we don't have another checker till 11". I think they did such a great job on the store, the lack of a checker at check out dropped the rating to a 3. It's to bad they couldn't get us checked out faster. read more

My regular Safeway, some highlights: - the occasional 30% off wine events. This can be a particularly great deal on Napa Cabernet and Ridge Zinfandel. Wish I got notice in advance. - sushi counter, great staff, you can watch them make the rolls, and they may make them to order for you if you don't see what you want (and ask nicely) - Marin Bagels (at the end of one of the aisles; wish the Novato Paradise Foods had bagels) - Organic fruits/vegetables. The remodeling of the interior took some getting used to (several visits before I finally found the mustard). The interior Starbucks seems popular. Lowlight: not allowing us to use self-check-out registers for wine. There oughta be a law... read more

Chip, Cookie Vendors are always blocking the Aisles and rude. FOUR vendors in today. That's 4 carts. One was apologetic and moved her cart prompting the Chip Vendor to make sarcastic comments: "You know with so many of us it's impossible to schedule our deliveries." Safeway at this location your chip & cookie vendor re-stockers don't seem to be clear on why Paying customers are there. Your Novato GM needs to have a Vendor meeting or else require the Vendors to go to Charm School. NEVER A BAGGER in checkout, EVER! Same experience every day in the mornings. read more

I hate to say I don't shop here unless I need to. Since the store moved here the prices went higher, the aisle are smaller and parking is a nightmare. I liked the old location much better. Having been spoiled by my old neighborhood Safeway in Diamond Heights, I am not a Safeway hater. This one is pretty good. New, clean, well-stocked, and definitely worlds above the Safeway closest to my new house - the Las Gallinas store. Still, I wasn't too impressed. The selection was just ok. And the butcher who helped me with two unfamiliar items on my shopping list was just wrong. He lead me astray twice on two things that were the basis of new recipes. Come on. It's ok if you don't know. Just admit it. But don't ruin my dinner. read more

I will not shop at this Safeway anymore. I just spent 20 minutes in line at a self-check (which is still faster than the 30 minute checker lines that go down the aisles.) for a pint of ice cream. I've been going to this Safeway for years and I've noticed a steady decline in customer service, line wait time, and food quality. I believe they purposely understaff this store to keep it's costs down. The employees are no longer cheerful or friendly, and the service is the worst it's ever been at this location. The Safeway on Nave drive has lost a customer that has shopped there since it opened. I will go to the Diablo location from now on. read more

We shop here weekly and for the past couple of months have noticed the store has less and less cashiers or deli workers. This business model doesn't work when people are on their lunch break and work like to pick up something to eat quickly. I waited in line at the hot food bar for almost 20 minutes as the one employee was working himself crazy attempting to help the customers. I also witnessed a second employee in the back opening boxes instead of helping the other customers. Them then we proceeded to the self check out area and out of the 4 available only 2 were open for use. This is noon all 4 lanes should be up and running. This store really needs to focus on the customer experience again. It's focus no seems to be on the least amount of workers possible and totally forgetting the customer. In the end people will start to shop else where if Safeway continues to cut employees and ignoring their customers. read more

This is our local Safeway and we shop here a few times per week. With the club card and coupon iphone app, the prices can be very competitive. The store is very clean, organized, and the staff is very friendly and efficient. The produce is always fresh and well stocked. Our only minor complaint is that they don't carry some of the products we like. But if you ask the manager to start stocking it, they will do so. The pharmacy is fast and friendly. But the beauty and personal care department is just too big now and takes sq footage away from food products. We're not too thrilled with the new layout of the store. We liked the old layout better. Other then those minor concerns- all in all, it's a great store. read more

The only decent service I have received here is from the self check out person. The deli, jamba juice, and starbucks employees look at you like you are inconveniencing them (or, they don't bother looking at you at all). I'm not a high maintenance customer, but a hello or a smile would be nice. Add that to slow service and I can barely stand it. I avoid this place and I work a few blocks away. I've lived in MarinCounty all my life, have visited all the Safeways in the area, and this one is by far the worst in customer service. I'm writing this review as I'm once again made to wait a considerable amount of time before anybody in the deli department can help me. And when an employee does come to help they always seem overworked and tired of the job at hand. The (almost) new Safeway in Hamilton is great. They bake a mean "whole grain bagel." For a mainstream grocery store, they have a good selection of organic berries and other fruits & veggies. They have an organic label, "O Brand," and I particularly like the "O" chocolate chips and the "O" raw chicken. I thought I couldn't wait until Whole Foods opened in Novato, but I'm happy enough with Safeway that I'm not going to Whole Foods much. read more

If there was a rating of negative zero, this Safeway's Employee at the hot food line where customers would order chicken tenders during lunch time would receive it. I was 2nd in line waiting patiently for the chicken tenders to be cooked which was about 3 more minutes and your employee who happened to be a female Jamaican African American lady totally ignored me and helped me last. She kept saying, I have to help this guy, this lady who was there first which was complete BULL". There was a total of about maybe 6 people during lunch time around a little after 12:10 p.m.on a Friday (yesterday) waiting to order & I was the 2nd in line. By the time the chicken tenders were cooked, the line grew more. I only have a 30 min lunch and I kept telling this to the employee & she kept serving other people who came after me. Then when she finally got to me, she kept apologizing. I told her what is your name so I can file a discrimination complaint. I don't appreciate being served last when I came 2nd and then to top it off all the good chicken tenders were gone she attempted to give me a broken piece of chicken tender. So of course I told this Jamaican African Employee to take the broken chicken out, why would I want to buy a broken piece of chicken strips. Then after she finished my order, I told her I wanted to pay for my order right there. She said some bull like she didn't have a register log in or some excuse like that. The people who serve customers at the hot line where they sell potato wedges/chicken tenders are very unorganized, too slow no sense of urgency to help expedite customers orders quickly, & look lost. I mean, if this is trying your best then you're in the wrong job profession lady. Recommendation is to have a barrier where the line is so that your employees can serve customers in the order they arrive. Everyone is just standing around scattered that your employees assume they were ahead in line just because they may be older or some other reason. Again, I don't appreciate being ignored after I clearly was 2nd in the hot food line (check your camera's), you had 1 female employee who had an accent, medium complexion looks to be Jamaican African American & then you also have a male employee who also looks to be Jamaican African American. Cook more FRESH Chicken tenders, fries, macaroni, etc. everyday especially before noon so customers aren't waiting. Time is money, and after this experience I probably won't be buying lunch at this Safeway again. I've given this Safeway a few chances and it's always something, like either no chicken tenders, overcooked or undercooked burnt chicken tenders, no potato wedges, or something. Also, open the cashier register so customers can pay who only buy lunch and not have to wait in a long line where other people are buying a lot of groceries. Ridiculous, why bother to building a Safeway in this area if your employees can't keep up with customers demands. You really can't train customer service, you either have people skills or you don't. Treat customers in the order they arrive first come, first serve. An organized line system like put up a pole barrier so customers aren't standing all over the place (some at the sandwich area, some at hot food, some at Sushi area, etc. that you don't know who came first only that everyone is in a rush). To avoid all this, prepare more FRESH hot chicken tenders/potato wedges in advance to be ready to serve before noon, have a barrier in your line areas to prevent people from cutting in line, a numbering system, or something different besides what you have now of people just standing around waiting). CLOSE THIS Safeway for lack of customer service experience, being ignored by your Jamaican African Employee, another time it was by a male Latin Employee, a male Jamaican Employee, and many more). Too many to remember, but for this experience with this Jamaican African employee who worked yesterday (Friday) around 12:10 p.m. at the hot food line A negative zero the Jamaican guy who was there also wasn't much better. This review is for the Pharmacy in this Safeway. At all COST stay away, faraway from this pharmacy its mass confusion. They call you to tell you your prescriptions are ready. When you get there wait in line for 20 to 30 minutes get to the window and they tell you they're not ready or don't have the item in stock. WTF don't call till the script is there and ready to pick up. It's not like you have to be a rocket scientist to count pills and know what the interactions are with other drugs. Pretty much all the info is on the Internet. Go to Costco's pharmacy to save yourself from pulling your hair out with the frustration of this Safeways pharmacy. 000 stars read more

Had a horrible experience...I couldn't find anyone in the store to help me find more water that was out of stock on the shelf. I went to the back room to find someone to help and got yelled at by Joe. Joe- you are rude. So very rude. I'll never come here again. Who do you think you are?...your "customer service" attitude is pathetic. Yelling at me for trying to find a product that is out of stock on the shelf?...Are you just an angry, disgruntled employee? The girl name Brandi working in the Starbucks stand in safeway doesnt understand what customer service is. Starbucks policy is that if the drink isn't made right, that the drink would be remade. I was very polite through the initial interaction but regardless, she gave a piss poor attitude after I asked her to make the drink again (because it tasted like ice with no flavor). she THROWS the drink in the trash, grabs the blender jar from left side dirty dry containers and such) of the sink, dunks it into the sink filled with old water, and then proceeds to make the drink. I asked her if she was planning to RINSE it (you know, TURN ON the faucet and actually WASH the thing) before making the drink, and she ignores me. I ended up requesting a refund. This girl doesn't deserve a F+, more like a F-. P.S. Brandi, if you dont like your job, maybe you should go back to school for manners, cleanliness, and learn about customer service. I normally have pretty good experiences with customer service and cashiers here, but today I encountered the most rude employee yet. I wish I would've gotten his name so I can call him out personally, but the best description I can give was a man in his mid 20s with a bunch of tattoos and a beard with a short haircut. He was at one of the express lanes and was checking out a lady and me and another guy start to walk towards his line. It turns out his light isn't on and He tells the guy in front of me "I'm not open, he is" and pointed to the other express lane who's light was on. It's hard to tell which light is who's since the express lanes are in line with each other, so it's a simple mistake on trying to tell which express lanes light is on and which one isn't. As I'm standing in line, a couple of guys walk up towards his line, and he raises his voice saying "I'm not open how many times do I have to keep telling y'all I'm not open???" In the rudest douchiest yelling tone ever. He rolls his eyes and walks off. Are you kidding me???? Those men didn't know that you already said it once to us??? It was a simple mistake!!! Luckily The man who was checking out my items was on the other end of the spectrum. He was the sweetest man ever, his name is Richard, and he completely lightened my mood and restored my faith in the better Safeway employees! If you need a pharmacy, KEEP AWAY!!!! You'll wait while 15-20 people in front of you in line try to get their prescriptions, if they are ready. This is the rule and not the exception. I had a scrip' phoned in Monday morning and waited until Tuesday to pick it up. What a shock, it wasn't ready yet. I've complained to the store and district managers to no avail. Today, the assistant manager had a silly grin on his face while I was complaining about this. I understand why they ignore customers' concerns, being the only pharmacy within miles, but they've lost me and I just informed United Health of the issue, recommending they no longer consider these smug bastards a "preferred" pharmacy, They're anything but. This review is in regards to their pharmacy. DO NOT GO HERE. I am not a believer of Yelp reviewing and I think this is the first one I've ever done but the horrendous management of this pharmacy has driven me to write this while standing in a 45 min line once again. Once I get to the front I will most likely be told that they don't have my prescription (even though my doctor called it in) or tell me to wait a couple hours and then wait in an hour long line again. I don't understand how it is consistently this bad without management noticing and doing something about it. This Safeway use to be my favorite. It has gone down hill. Only two cash registers open the last 4 times I've been there with lines going far down the isles. I waited atleast 5 minutes for someone to show up at the deli. There usually is atleast one very slow person back there, but there was not a soul. The isles are cluttered with boxes. I loathe this store. I loathe this gas station. I dislike the layout, the crowded aisles, the lack of organic selections. (Hello, you don't have tri-tip in your butcher dept?) But the worse part about this store, is the cheap gas prices LURES you in, and then out of the countless times I've *TRIED* to get gas since late August, I think I've been successful 4 times. The rest of the time the gas station is CLOSED due to something breaking down. I've had this happen twice as I was about to begin fueling the car. Not to mention people who have bigger egos than they should zipping through the exit to take the next available pump and not waiting in line like everyone else. The layout of this store and the parking lot is funky, and I'm going to stick with TJ's and Whole Foods. read more
