I thought I was still in Mukilteo, but no this Safeway is actually in North Lynnwood. Mind blown right there. I stopped here on the way home to get something light to eat from the to-go section and was pleasantly surprised to find it right inside the entrance on the right hand side of the entrance I entered the store through. I spotted freshly made sushi, went with the Spicy Tuna roll, proceeded to the self check-out area and found it to be quite a large self check-out area. I walked up to one of the self check-out stations and the screen proceeded to the scan item stage of check out without me pressing any thing. Motion detection in self check-out machinery, sweet. That's not something I see regularly. Check out was straightforward and there was a human monitor available to call if one needed help while going through self check-out. The parking lot was large and partially full, I was coming towards the beginning of the lunch hour and I saw a few people sitting and eating in their cars. Pricing was fair and what I was looking for was very quick to find.

Friday I finished working through them, so I was Trader Joe's bound in the morning. After stopping and getting a few things at the nearby Safeway I was on my way to Trader Joe's. The item I was most excited to see if they had was a Lemon Chicken & Arugula Salad. It was my favorite salad from Trader Joe's when I lived in California but I had not yet been able to find it in the Shoreline area. So I decided to go to a different Trader Joe's, this one, to see if I could find it. And they had it! I was so excited that I also decided to splurge and buy my two favorite hot sauces from Trader Joe's, a Green Dragon hot sauce and a Sriracha hot sauce. They also had the other items I was looking for, a Cobb Salad, a frozen tarte, and frozen cherries. Everything was as delicious as I remember and I enjoyed it all. A well earned reward for working through my personal stuff. One of the things I love about Trader Joe's is size of the offerings. Take the frozen tarte (similar to a pizza) for example, the full tarte was only 580 calories, tasty, and satisfying. I have found many of the products of Trader Joe's to be this way, satisfying and exquisitely well executed in terms of portion control. And I have been able to find more than one tasty healthy item in different food categories. Nice to have options to choose from when eating healthy. Prices here are a little higher than they were in California, but not significantly so. The store is well laid out and easy to navigate. Hand sanitizer/cleaning supplies are currently abundantly available due to COVID-19. The workers were very friendly and kind in my experience. The parking lot is very large, though it is shared with neighboring businesses so I could see it being difficult to find a spot depending on what day/time one visits.

The produce section continues to rock, as do the superb meat and seafood sections. The former asian section is mostly mixed in now, and that is fine. It still has a huge variety of top-quality items. Cheese has shrunk a bit since the new restaurant opened, but it's still good. Deli meats are a little less appealing, but still good. This is a wonderful grocer, neck-and-neck with the other local/regional high-end grocer, Metropolitan Market. Of the two, I prefer T&C. Both are great.

We stayed out of the middle aisles, shopping on the edges. The last time we were in, the original sushi people were gone, replaced by some run of the mill contractor with fishy tasting garbage. This time, prices were unbelievable. We all know that Covid affected the supply chain and things got expensive. The supply chain has been fine for awhile, yet everything is ridiculously expensive. I am not poor. I think I have a relatively decent income. When I mentioned that I was likely to stop including this store as a regular option, I was met with death stares. Seriously? We were followed to our car and asked to not come back. Seriously? I actually went back inside and took photos of the staff running away from me. We weren't violent. We didn't cuss. We weren't loud. We just called you out for being a money-hungry conglomerate charging as much as the richest customer will pay. You should be ashamed at how exclusionary your store really is. And obviously your staff isn't trained on anything remotely close to empathy. If they were, there attitude would have been much better. Effen Mill Creek snobs.

There aren't a lot of staff on the floor (like EVERY grocery store) but they are helpful and knowledgeable. Packaged, bulk and organic veggies. Not the prettiest in town but that's ok. Well-stocked, reasonably priced refrigerated salad dressing. Large bulk item section. Smallish bakery section. Reasonably priced meats (some name brands). Extensive dairy section with Darigold FIT milk. Organic eggs. The seasonal aisle is up front. That's where things go on sale. They haven't reorganized in the years I've been shopping here. Once you're familiar with the layout, zoom. Good prices every day. No loss leaders. If you're worried one of the big three has something on sale, price check with their apps. Self checkout (15 recommended limit) is now debit only. You can use Apple Pay if you have a cash card installed. Cash is now (late 2025) taken only at staffed registers. No CCs. May not be the best store for once-a-month shopping as you bag your own (unless there are two folks shopping). I have never seen a shopping cart filled with trash. Occasionally there might be a plastic veggie bag. No boxes like at Costco unless you bring your own. Don't like their bags? Bring your own. (All stores here charge for bags; it's the law.)
