Seafood is not cheap so if you are going to invest, you want good quality, and that's what you'll find. I came here for the first time on 06/22/2025 because I needed a few items to make sushi at home. Got here at around 5pm and it wasn't busy at all. The first thing that struck me was how well-organized it was. Fresh produce was on full display both inside and outside the business. Once inside, there was a fish counter on the left side that featured live seafood and sashimi grade fish. I got some bluefin tuna at $29.99 a pound. Quality was good and the price was comparable to other specialty markets. I also got some ripe avocados for $1.19 each, which was way cheaper than Safeway. Aside from fresh seafood and produce, they appeared to carry a good variety of Asian staples. However, I was unable to check out that area because a shopper lost her pearl earring and multiple workers were helping her to find it. :-P This is a good place to shop if you live in the area, especially if you don't want to drive to Concord or Dublin for Asian items. 4 stars.

Every time I go to the Lafayette store I have the worst experience. Especially if I have any interaction with Denise- Assistant manager. She is rude, unprofessional, absolutely not helpful. She always walks away, ignores you when you try to talk to her about any issue and she never resolves a problem. She is not only rude to the customers but treats employees very poorly too. Noone in this store likes her or respects her. The store was not bad until Denise and JJ came around. These two took the store from okay to bad. Honestly, the store would be better off without Denise's "assistant manager' and JJ's so-called "store manager". I never received that treatment from any store I was in. It's just unacceptable. And if the upper management just ignores this post and doesn't do anything... well shame on them. I swear these people are a joke. And my family lives in Lafayette, I live in Alamo, so I hate not to shop there ever again. We have been going to these two Safeway stores for 20 years. On 3.27.2022 I went to the Lafayette store. The store was busy, as always. There was only one cash register open as always. Denise, who was supposed to be the assistant manager took My husband and I from the line we were standing for a while to the self check out. Then she saw that we have a rain check for Turkey, which was just $2 or $3 cheaper than it was selling. She said " Oh No, Go Back to the line. We have to go all the back in the line to the same cash register. So we did. When it was finally our turn, the cashier calls Denise, once again the assistant manager, Denise comes to the register and took a long look at the rain check again. Then she calls JJ who is supposed to be in charge. JJ taking a very long time talking to someone on the phone I guess about that. The people behind us were furious and very upset. I am sure they also will leave bad reviews about these two and this store. Then Denise whispered something to JJ's ear and JJ comes to us and says that he can't help us. That is after almost an hour of us being in this store. I asked her what was her name, She was extremely rude and walked away. She always walks away when you try to talk to her if you have a problem. Then I asked who was the store manager. She said it was JJ and I can't speak to him anymore because he is at lunch. That was the guy I just talk to a minute ago. I finally spoke to Debbie at the customer service desk and she honored the rainchecks. I was going to buy a lot more groceries but at this point, I just wanted to leave and never come back. I just can't believe how Denise and JJ acted. So unprofessionally. So many people waited in line and they took so much time and never resolved it, never apologized, smiles as we were walking away without any groceries. I always have a bad experience when Denise is working but this tit was the worst. By the way, I looked at the check and the store manager is not JJ what Denise said but Tim McDonough. Honestly, I never want to go to that store ever again as long as Denise and JJ are in charge. These two make the worst experience every time we go there. read more

This Safeway supermarket truly stands out as a gem. It's not just your typical grocery store; it's a place that offers 'extras' that make your shopping experience exceptional. First and foremost, the organization within the store is impressive. You can easily navigate the aisles and find what you need, making your shopping efficient and hassle-free. The inventory is nothing short of incredible, offering a wide range of products to suit every need and taste. What truly sets this Safeway apart, though, is the outstanding customer service. The staff here goes the extra mile to assist customers and create a welcoming atmosphere. Their friendliness and helpfulness make your visit a delight. In a world where grocery shopping can sometimes feel like a chore, this Safeway supermarket manages to turn it into a pleasant outing. If you're looking for a well-organized store, a fantastic inventory, and a warm and friendly shopping environment, this Safeway is the place to go. It's a true standout in the world of supermarkets. read more

The people who work here are incredibly rude and there are usually only ever a few checkout lanes open at most, so I've rarely had an experience here that hasn't been unpleasant. As such, I try to avoid going here as much as possible. Thought the installment of the self-checkout lanes might help these issues...however, that's not the case. The washed up older lady with long brown hair (didn't bother to get a name) who was "attending" to the area today was both rude and racist. Not sure if it's because I'm not white or look young, but this lady hovered over me the entire time I was checking out. Never once did I ask for help, or need it, yet she insisted on standing over me and speaking to me like a slow child throughout the whole process. There were plenty of other customers also checking out, who might've needed help, but I guess I looked like the one who'd be most likely to shoplift or something? read more

I usually go to the store in Orinda. But today I dropped in here because it was on the way between my sons' schools. All Safeways are pretty much alike. Things are kept roughly in the same aisles because its a corporate establishment. But when you are in a store you're not used to it is a little bit like being in Bizzaro land (like on Superman--those of you who know Seinfeld might remember the Bizarro Seinfeld episode). Well it is a little bit like that. Very similar yet not quite. And when you get up to the counter and see all the alternate counter parts to the usual checkers it kind of weirds you out a little. The one thing this Safeway has that my other one doesn't is newer shopping carts. And a Starbucks, just in case the walk across the street is just too much for your lazy derriere. Otherwise it is a regular supermarket. read more

Well the place more than suited my purposes. However, a life form there by the name of Kimberly Hedemark has me wonder well just how did she come to be regarded as an asset to the store? Oh if you're looking to employ a bully you get an A+. But given her habit of gabbing like there's no tomorrow, for her to go off on others for same is really the epitome of ridiculous. Apparently the prior director (who is now at Orinda) had no problem with her being a BULLY. In fact in a report filed against Kimberly consisting of 5 instances of bullying, the prior director apparently did not think that the complaint merited any sort of action! read more
