It's right off the main boulevard in Lafayette and the parking is tight. However, no charge for parking. They have a pharmacy, which is rare these days, as well as a large bakery department. This Safeway is the best one you will find in the Bay Area and it's not close. There are a total of four premium Safeways...Alamo, Blackhawk, San Ramon, and this location. Just the bakery alone is like night and day compared with other Safeways. The deli is better and all the ready made food is ready early in the day. The store is very organized and well stocked. Customer Service is very good compared to the nonexistent customer service at other stores in Oakland etc. Most Safeway employees ignore me like I'm a ghost at the regular stores. Of the three Lamorinda stores, I do feel this one is the best. My issue, with all Safeways at the moment are the newly installed video monitors that are connected to each self check out register. In the last two weeks, I have visit each store once and have had issues each time at each location. The systems really suck! If you move too fast, they lock you out and you need to wait, "for assistance". Or, they simply won't show a product as scanned, when you have scan it. For example, scanned about ten items. Going along just fine. About the scan the last item and the system licked me out. When the assistant/associate came, they looked out the receipt and it showed I had only scanned three items. The associate said, you did not scan all those items. I said, "yes I did." They then watched me do it again, an again it locked up. The associated blamed it on the heat in the store. My response was that it's not my problem.... Anyway, a very bad system and reflection on Safeway. read more

This store is always clean and has been efficient, but there's eight people in line and one checker. And she keeps pushing us to self serve.

I have nothing good to say about my Safeway DriveUp&Go experience. We always sign in when we're on our way, but it doesn't matter - groceries are never brought to the car in less than 10 minutes after arrival. Today was no different. We gave a 10 minute heads up we were on our way, and then waited more than 20 minutes in the lot for groceries. We called twice, but the number they give you is not picked up. We finally had to go inside and find someone to alert the team we were still waiting. The guy who brought out the groceries had lots of excuses about being understaffed and having a skeleton crew. At noon on a Sunday that just doesn't make sense. The manager agreed that the system doesn't work - signaling you're on the way doesn't speed things along, no one knows if the phone is being answered or who is supposed to answer it, and the wait time is beyond unacceptable. However, she also had no solutions. Overall, this was a beyond horrible experience. read more

My complaint is not with the store or the employees. Just want to know what brilliant corporate executives decided to get grocery bags with no handles. Really? You're the only grocery store I know around the area that decided to save a few pennies a bag and make life harder for your customers. I have bad knees. Now I will have to make twice the number of trips up and down the stairs because I can only handle one bag at a time. Thank you "Diane" front end manager for making me have yet another weird experience here. I walk up, NO CUSTOMERS IN SITE, and Diane is telling another lady (worker) "I can't believe you're 65, you can get $30 more dollars per paycheck...". Yet, didn't think to turn and help me check out. Hmmmmmm..... So I stand there, waiting, uncomfortably for about a minute--which is an oddly long time to stand alone about 7am trying to check out with no one else standing around. All while I'm listening to a conversation about being 65... When Diane finally turned to look at me she never said "Hi," or anything until it was time to ask for my age/ID for my purchase. Alright peeps yes I know the reviews are horrible but let's give this store a hole 360 and see what we can do to put this store in a 5 star store. Well from walking into the store it's clean and very organized. I had the chance to order some flowers and balloons. It was an amazing experience to be honest. Lady's helped me out a lot I picked out my flowers and was asked if I wanted them to be wrapped. I said yes when the lady gave me back my flowers I saw she had put a lavender ribbon and my flowers looked like 1800-flowers had just delivered them to me. The balloons I picked out said happy birthday but I went ahead and mixed the balloons up this nice lady put the ribbon on the balloons so colorful that it made the balloons pop with color and made my flowers look really beautiful. I proceeded to check out the deli department for the sushi. Yes yes I know sushi from a grocery store!! But, wait till you read how amazing this sushi was.. I asked the lady in the counter if she could make me a crunchy roll with extra sauce and crunch she said yes. She took out fresh rice and started assembling the sushi right in front of my eyes when I say holy moly she packed it so amazing fresh ingredients not like other stores that take out ingredients from the freezer and just try to make something called sushi lol. Peeps really come to this deli and ask the lady I think her name is "Mo" she makes the sushi so good I also had the chance to try a sushi with mango on top and chilly flakes on them it had that nice sweet and hot kick to it I had to go for 3rds lol. When she was finally done with my sushi I took the first bite and to be honest it was fresh crunchy and savory OMG!!!!! I also asked for a breakfast burrito I really am not a breakfast person but this burrito has really changed my mind never will I got to mcds and grab a so call breakfast burrito from them. My burrito had egg, sausage, fresh potato wedges, pepper jack cheese, bell peppers, freshly cut onions, and yes lots and lots of chipotle sauce because according to the deli lady "this is what brings the hole burrito together. But wait there is more!!! She cooked my toppings first before putting it in the burrito oh yeah! Then she put the toppings on the tortilla and heated up again doing this the stuff inside is hot in every bite. Not only that the tortilla had a crunch to it. When I said OH MY GODDDDD!!! This is something to try you must try this breakfast burrito, and yes they serve this burrito anytime this is not mcds that at 10:30 they stop serving breakfast. Lol peeps really after walking all over the store I left with amazing flowers delicious freshly made sushi and a bomb AF burrito and andddddd a fruit tart wow this Safeway has it all not to mention I was told that this store is the only premium store in the Bay Area so of course peeps this girl will be coming back to shop here. I think the chicken isn't prepared enough to be eaten. They don't make fried chicken properly. What the company decides is to shut down this location for the foreseeable future until they locate chicken cookers who fry chicken prepared for consumption. A Safeway that is not far from Whole Foods Market. It is amazing that two grocery stores not far apart doing great business. I only gotten a sandwich from this location. Manage to go through self checkout right away and was out ASAP. The inside of Safeway isn't bad. Plenty of parking at this particular Safeway. With Whole Foods Market nearby I have not seen all the spaces being filled up. Not much I could say about the service since I only came inside for a sandwich but I will still give this location five stars. read more

This whole thing with digital coupons and needing the app on your phone is absurd. It takes twice as long to check out, sometimes longer, and usually involves needing to hand your phone over to the cashier because the user interface is trash. It's bad for customers and bad for business. read more

The cashier was apologetic but the two senior staff members were Complete Tools about it. They would not make eye contact with me. Worst customer service at a grocery store in the area. Denise (mgr.) and Dante are two of the only friendly, helpful people here. Raphael (?) the mgr. is rude, dismissive, and clearly hates his job. For YEARS I stopped going here, even though it's the closest store to my house, because of the unwarranted hostility these employees have toward customers. I'm a polite, respectful guy, giving these employees no reason at all to be rude from the jump, but they are. Moreover, I've consistently heard employees drop MANY "F" bombs at a loud volume in front of customers, complaining about random personal problems. I'm not a prude, but... social contract, people. No one wants to hear you say "f" this and "f" that at full volume. I will resume my plan of never going here again, despite the inconvenience. This store SUCKS!!! Do not give them your business. I went to this store as it was en route to restaurant where I was hosting a birthday dinner for 15. In approaching the bakery counter, there were 3 of us waiting to meet with clerk. She approached me and then asked me to wait a minute as she made a personal phone call on her cell. All of us were rather taken back. I pointed to the size cake I wanted and asked to place order for 25 hrs later for pick up. She fumbled but found a pad - she said there were no pens so we provided. By then, I was a bit exasperated and offered to complete the order form as others were still waiting and she seemed lost. She said the only unclear item was color of icing for message - I said it did not matter Morning of pick up I get a call from Elsie that there was a problem - she was kind and professional but I indicated a filling and since it was a carrot cake not possible - no big deal so I reconfirmed pick up. When I got to the store I was advised that in lieu of the 1/4 sheet I was to pay for a cake that would serve like 80 people! Needless to say, I said no. The clerk called Elsie who recalled my call and charged me what I asked to purchase $36 vs $79 - a big difference. While everything was delicious and all guests took home an abundance of leftovers, I was totally impressed with how Elsie handled the matter. I quit using virginia hills Safeway due to 45 yrs of blunders and will certainly continue to use this store. I went to Safeway this morning to buy some flowers. I found some Valentine's Day flowers on sale for 75% off. When I got to the checkout, they didn't ring up at 75% off so I asked the checker to check because she didn't think the flowers I had grabbed were the ones on sale. She went to the flower department and upon her return confirmed the price was correct. When she went to make the correction, she asked the manager for an override. The manager came over and proceeded to question her about the price. Good lord you cannot believe your employee! Then the manager rudely made us wait while she also walked to the flower department to check - She shouldn't question the checker in front of a customer like that very rude and unprofessional!!! I called the bakery looking to order a Vegas themed birthday cake, but sadly they didn't have such a theme in their portfolio. I requested that whoever was in charge of my cake take liberties to decorate the cake with something/anything in a Vegas theme. I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked it up, my expectations weren't high. Shalita (my cake decorator) brought the cake over to show me before she boxed it up and it looked fantastic! No one was available in customer service .I had to ask the other employees to call someone. After 3 times and 15 minutes waiting, a guy named Tim showed up. He said he had things to do. He didn't even apologize and he said he is the manger. He didn't care about my frustration and he was being sarcastic. Costumer service in Safeway is a nightmare. While at Safeway Lafayette today I see majority of workers with mask on but noses uncovered, then what good does the mask then do. Store managers need to talk to their workers and make them wear the masks correctly. I will not go to that Safeway any more during this pandemic as I do NOT FEEL SAFE there.
