SAFEWAY @ KIRKLAND This used to be one of my favorite Safeway locations in Washington! It's spacious, has great produce, and items. It has however changed over the time, the staff don't seem friendly, I've walked in a couple times and just been fully glared at by staff in the front. Bathrooms are dirty and it's pretty sticky floors. There is also workers smoking on the side of Safeway outside right by the Handicap, no issue with smoking, but they are ALWAYS lingering around where customers are walking to the car. There is also homeless people always out front where you enter 124th street. Other than that, the selection is great, there is a Starbucks in the store as well, and the produce is fresh. I really enjoy the bakery items, they are delicious and the workers are always kind there! read more

Not sure why the rating is low for this store. I actually thought this location was great. This Safeway is larger with a better selection than other Eastside locations that I have visited. Parking is plentiful and easy. And the location is right on a busy stretch of NE 85th Street that is close to I-405. The customer service was great. I had mistakenly picked up the wrong box of berries that were not on sale and told the self-checkout clerk that I would run back to the produce area to grab the right ones. When I came back, the clerk offered to ring my groceries up herself. I really appreciate how she went above and beyond. Little gestures like this help to rebuild customer loyalty. read more

Most workers at this Safeway are very unhelpful and rude. Moved my prescriptions from the pharmacy because pharmacist called me a liar and said they answer the phone after I tried multiple times to call and couldn't even leave a message as did the CVS pharmacist and the Safeway pharmacist said I was wrong that they always answer their phone. Even the store's assistant manager said they don't answer their phone pharmacy's phone. Today, 7/3/26, there was a bag of two trays of chicken in my cart. I walked it back into the store and asked the gal standing at the exit to the self check and asked if she was a supervisor or manager. She wasn't even kind or smart enough to speak to me, she just pointed to customer service and pointed to a line of customers she wanted me to get into. I moved the cart closer to her and said, "I'm not waiting in that line" and walked away. My blood sugar was rapidly dropping and as I walked away I took 2 glucose tabs. She never did say a single word to me. There are only a couple of competent employees at this store and I only shop there because some of there prices are good. I have transferred ALL of my prescriptions to CVS where everyone is far more competent and friendly. I suggest you do the same. And, as for your groceries there's Fred Meyer, QFC, and Trader Joe's. Forget Safeway. And, I have been a Safeway customer for over 30 years while living in California, Arizona, Washington (multiple times). Stopped by the Safeway in Kirkland, and the large parking lot was a plus, especially for a store in this area. Inside was neatly arranged, and things felt efficient from a layout standpoint. However, I was disappointed by the amount of trash around the parking lot and I was kind of aurprised given the otherwise clean interior. The flower display at the entrance was a welcome touch and added some charm to the visit. Checkout moved quickly, but the staff didn't really engage beyond what was necessary. Unfortunately, the Safeway on 85th would be my last choice of grocery stores within 2 miles of my home. My last visit was very frustrating primarily trying to make their digital coupons work which I feel is discriminatory towards people who can't or don't take advantage of so-called discounts. read more

Safeway is getting worse. Hardly shop there anymore and today reminded me why I don't. Their coupon discount wouldn't come up at check out. I showed them on my app I had it "clipped". Cashier tried a few different things. Then brought a manager over. At this point QFC would have pushed it through to expedite but no, not Safeway. I then had to go to customer service and let the manager do something with my personal phone to get a QR code. All of this was a time consuming hassle. If the savings hadn't been significant I would have walked out without the groceries. I'll stick to QFC. read more

I ordered my groceries online for a 5-9pm delivery slot. Nothing arrived. Online customer service rep told me I couldn't ask for a refund at that time. I called the store, the staff there said it's on a delivery truck and they don't know which one. Wasn't helpful at all and said delivery drivers are back at the store by 11pm and if I haven't received my order by then (telling me to wait another 2 hours after the initial 4 hour window), I could call the next morning and ask for a refund. 9am the next day, no emails, texts, no groceries! I called the 1-877 number and the lady there had no idea what happened and issued a refund immediately. This store keeps going downhill! Can't say I'm a fan of this Safeway (or most Safeways really). I can't put my finger about what it is that turns me off. Their offerings are 'fine'. This is a Kirkland location, which is a higher end zip code so to speak and they don't offer much to draw the bucks. I like mixing normal tier food with higher end products, and they don't offer much on the latter. Their sales are 'ok' but not practically attractive. There's a decent chance they'll have what I want at the normal tier, so I'm not complaining there. It's a thinly staffed store. If I can't find something, it's difficult to find help. The only people I see are around the perimeters, i.e. the registers at the front, the meat/seafood case in the back, the hot foods at the corner, and the occasional florists. No one in the middle. Their lack of staff is really the only ding making this store feel like a straightly self-service supermarket. So hey, here's a bonus. Nice Safeway with great produce (fresh and not going bad like it sometimes is at QFC or Fred Meyer). Be sure to check your receipt! I got double charged for an item and need to go back to the store, which is time consuming as a busy person. Staff also were not familiar with the Safeway app which has a digital copy of the receipt (for both online and in-store purchases) and they kept asking me to bring in my paper receipt. The app is also glitchy, the QR code doesn't always work even if your phone number works. Great store otherwise, and the pharmacy is always awesome! read more

I was shopping after work at Safeway the other night and when they closed at midnight, I was one of the last customers in the store. Rather than treating me rudely and ushering me out the door the two cashiers, Illiana and Vanessa, helped me to check my groceries out, bag my groceries, and were very polite and considerate! This is especially amazing, as it was closing time. I loaded up my car with my groceries and then discovered I had a dead battery. Within just a moment or two a car pulls up and a lady with a smile on her face sticks her head out and asks if I needed assistance! Illiana, the kind cashier who assisted in checking out my groceries, had come to assist me with my dead battery. Not only did Illiana insist on waiting with me until AAA was to arrive, but She also tried to help me get the car started! It was 38° outside and she didn't have any sort of jacket or sweater and yet she was willing to help me when she should've been home in a warm house! She insisted on giving me her phone number and asking me to text her and let her know that I got home safe !!! This is so far above and beyond the call of duty,I hope that Safeway recognizes this and commends her for her gallant behavior! It's a Safeway. There's a big parking lot, and a decent selection of stuff. The store actually doesn't have a weird layout that some Safeways have with the half aisles. It has a lot of the standard stuff you'd find in a Safeway, and the produce isn't too bad. I would like there to be more organic produce but that's not a huge issue. Service was actually pretty good, considering we came here pretty late at night and the staff were still chirpy and friendly. read more

So I don't usually write reviews for grocery stores because I don't think it really matters. But.... I bought a case of Hefeweizen beer, brought it to a party and cracked a cold one. Little do you know, I'm like hmmm, this smells funky, but ignored it because whatever. After my second one I decided to ask my boyfriend if it was only me smelling it or it was the beer. And it was definitely the beer, why you ask? It's been expired for 2 months. I actually wouldn't have cared but since it smelt I was pretty upset especially because I brought this item to a party. Anyway, the store looked really nice, they had a very big pretty UNLOCKED section selling $125 wine, something I'm not used to LOL but anyway, SAFEWAY, just check your expiration inventory, is that too hard to ask for. read more

I have shopped at a number of Safeways in various states and this location is not the best and not the worse let either. This Safeway appears sad, dated, old and there to serve a purpose not provide an experience like so many other types of grocery stores. I would rank this Safeway one step above those discount grocery stores and not my first choice to shop. However, this store has the basics so in a pinch when you are out of milk, butter, eggs etc..then this is the place. They have fresh French bread which is cheap, warm, crusty and tasty. The meat selection is fine with the basic poultry, beef, pork and packed with hams and turkeys during the holidays. And you can always count on this store to be open on a holiday. The best part of this location are the salt and vinegar wings at the hot bar however recently the hot food bar has limited hours meaning you can't get wing favorites after a hard day at the office. There is a lot of room to improve the customer experience. And let's be honest..I rather drive 2-miles farther to the more expensive organic like stores just for a fresher, more entertaining grocery shopping experience. read more

Returned 2 weeks after my last review about Safeway allowing employees to wear fake masks, since corporate replied to me. The two women who are cashiering are still wearing the rhinestone masks and they are definitely mesh. If you can see their lips through the mask, it's doing absolutely nothing to stop Covid. Fish for sale in the meat section is soooo old it is almost dust. Fresh fish is not what they sell. The salmon fillets are cracked because they are old and dried out. Disgusting. I just observed the deli employee handle someone's money and loose change then prepare my food with the same dirty gloves. Yuck.

I was at Walgreens across the parking lot and wanted to get some peppered Turkey for sandwiches and thought I would give this store another shot. I quit shopping in their deli a few years ago because the employees go from stocking shelves to working with deli food without washing their hands. This time the guy was doing something with boxes on a cart. I waited for him to wash his hands but he stood there then grabbed for gloves. I'm not sure where these people got their food handlers permits but hand washing is an important part of that. I won't make the mistake of going back to this deli ever again. read more

Another tired old Safeway. Waited in line for 10 minutes to check out. They had three lanes open and people still waiting. I just don't get Safeway's mentality on having customers wait so long to check out. If you know it's busy throw someone in a check stand for 10 minute and get people out. Each time I come back here (it's on my way home from work), I hate it more. 1. Every single item I've ever purchased in the deli area is spoiled in some way. Either it's burnt, or the flavor is really bad, or the bread is soggy. You name it, they got it. 2. Produce only goes on sale when it's warped in some way. Seriously. $0.69/lb for onions, sure.. EVERY single onion in their giant pile had some big ol' moldy spot or some crazy mushy part. It took me like several minutes of picking through all their tomatoes to find a single Roma tomato that didn't have some crazy black spot or mold. 3. This was the last straw. I'm planning on making up a huge batch of pot stickers and I called around for prices on ground pork. It's usually like $4/lb, and hey, call me cheap, but it adds up. I called them yesterday and they told me the pork was $1.79. No, I didn't hear them incorrectly. The guy said "$1.79" twice. He even looked twice because he had to check how many packages they had left. I show up today and as it turns out it's $3.79/lb. Thanks for wasting my time. If a grocery store can't have good produce, a decent deli, and their meat department is incompetent with numbers.. well.. you know.. there are lots of other grocery stores out there to shop at. read more

Use this Safeway for convenience and urgent items only (like lunch for Satan). Staff is mediocre and unless something is on special their prices tend to be on the high side. Also, tends to be on the dirty side with overflowing garbage, etc. read more

This store is not what it used to be. Since they hired a new manager ,the place has really changed and many good employees are no longer working there. The new manager forced many of them out by changing their work schedule around and making it so hard for them to work there. That manager should have done something about the smokers that are constantly smoking near the entrances to clean the place out but instead he only targeted the employees. read more

If you've never had french bread from Safeway, steer clear because their loaves are insanely addicting. So much that I will wait the 20 minutes for them to bake them! Warm, soft, and the perfect slight-crisp on the ends. And as the story goes from many friends of mine, the lifespan of that loaf ends before mid-drive back home. True story! Tip: Safeway's Just For U program lets you download really helpful coupons that you can use electronically when you input your phone number at check-out. I was really lazy in registering for this, and now I'm regretting that because I probably could have saved several dollars each trip. This program is going to make me a more loyal Safeway customer! Their bakery department is a little lacking - I've seen more treats at other Safeways. But their service and fresh produce compensate for that! read more

This is a review for Safeway's Bakery - especially for special order cakes. We ordered a cake for my daughter's 1st birthday two days before the party. I'm an out-of-state visitor. I'm frequently in Kirkland and frequently cooking for family. I've been to this Safeway at least 9 times over the last several years. I've always been impressed with how clean the store is. The employees are always helpful, which is important when your unfamiliar with the store. The meat/seafood department has always been extremely helpful. I'm from California and primarily shop my local Safeway, which is hit and miss. This store is alway spot on. Thanks. read more
