This is NOT a 5 star review for this location, rather a rave session for the employee by the name of Diana. She's a courtesy clerk at this Safeway. I was in there the other day and she gave me very interesting information that was vital to correctly utilize the Safeway app. I've been shopping there for 30 years and I got the most information from her in the least amount of time! Thank you so much, Diana, for helping me see the light and understand that I'm not so computer illiterate! This particular Safeway has drastically declined in the past year. Horrible service from many of the workers, their are some great staff as well. I get charged prices that don't match their sale prices, they rarely have carts available for shopping, and the last time I was there, no one in the bakery department working. There was no fresh bread and the manager told me no one showed up for work to make the bakery items. The woman that works in customer service is so rude. She seems to hate her job, seems to hate the customers she has to help, and 100% unpleasant if she is asked a question. I would give zero stars if possible. read more

**This is for the DELI** Stood in a non-exsistent line for 5 minutes with no help and no "we will be right with you". I requested a Turkey Pesto Avocado sandwich and the person who assisted me said they don't make a "Chicken Pesto Avocado". Well, duh! It's because I said "turkey". The person then started the sandwhich with the look of cluelessness. Almost 10 minutes later, I'm handed a sandwhich that is falling out of the paper due to lack of proper wrapping. So yesterday we went shopping and as we walked in, these 2 ladies with their son refused to wear a mask even though they were asked to. And they walked around the store like they owned the place. It sucked that none of the employees stepped in to tell them to leave or to purchase a mask. I get it, it's annoying wearing them but those are the rules we have to follow for now for our protection and others. The staff at this location they are so amazing ...after buying a basket full of groceries I was waiting I'm line when I realized I forgot one item .the cashier was kind to have someone go back & pick the item up for me . After the transaction was completed they took the basket full of groceries out to my car & help me unloaded it . This store could care less about service. This was the third time this year I placed an order with the bakery, showed up to pick up my cake and either the names were spelled wrong, they forgot to decorate, or they completely didn't bake the cake at all. The balloon section isn't any better either. Placing balloon orders have gone wrong twice now with extra small balloons with hardly any air in them, the wrong color or not having them ready at the requested time. This store offers floral, balloons, cakes for special events but they will absolutely be sure to mess up those special events by getting details wrong or simply not giving you what you paid for. read more

The new remodel is awesome! (even though I'm having to re-learn where everything is now :) The new meat & poultry dept not only looks great, but they're offing some INCREDIBLE ahi tunas, ceviches (both ready to eat and delicious), bacon wrapped everything, raw & pre-marinated meats, etc. Butcher Daniel is friendly and knowledgeable and takes great care of his customers and the presentation of the department. I went to exchange propane gas around 6 pm. First I received one with much rusty handing so I asked him if I could have with a clean one. He said bad words and throw one at the bottom one intentionally to the ground. The tank was laid down and he never picked up. He is skinny tall young man and very rude. Let me preface this by saying that I am a night owl, so when a craving hits, or need last minute groceries, this is the only place in Gilroy that is open 24 hours. With that said, in the past week on couple of weeks on 4 different occasions, this place was closed from 1-5 am. The first excuse was that their registers weren't working - understandable. The next few times, no explanation whatsoever. There really is no excuse for this as I've seen them open during construction and remodel, so if it is a staffing issue, that is their problem, and the managers should find appropriate help, or cover the shifts themselves. I'll be going to Morgan Hill for my late night shopping, and to Raley's for my day time needs from here on out. read more

The store is clean, the bakery is very good , Starbucks has great coffee, and the staff for the most are helpful. How ever the kids in the deli, never loon up to see any one or the next customer. I went to safe way in Gilroy to purchase few items and picked up few Bananas, two potato and two apples. Lines were long on the check out so decided to use self check out. I had difficulty putting the item numbers in the machine and ask for help. Lady was attending the two self check out and was not busy at that movement. She got real upset and told me that if you don't know how to do this why you are in this line. I explained that I am over 70 years old and do not feel good so need help. lines are long on other check outs She continue with her rude behavior and I left without the purchase. Let me preface this by stating I have been to more than 12 different Safeway stores, so am not biased towards this chain on the whole. For the most part, I seldom shop elsewhere for groceries save for Costco, as I do like their lines of generic products, but I digress... I recently moved to Gilroy. Great part of town, fresh air, everything looking grand. The Safeway here looked decent, newish even. Well, not so great. Here is why: 1) No matter what alcohol I buy here, I am carded. Every time. And, by the same people multiple times. The same goes for the self-checkout line, which is an entire story itself, 2) Bums in the parking lots, bums asleep on the benches near the carts, drunk bums in the deli line swearing at people, two different kinds of people trying to sell me bird houses and tamales in the parking lot, 3) The self-check out area. *shudders* I have never had a problem using this service at my last two previous Safeway stores in San Jose. But this one, for some strange reason, is managed 90% of the time by a raven-haired middle aged woman that counts, YES counts what you put in your cart, tells you what to do in a condescending tone, and threatens you with invalidating your whole ringing-up process if you don't do it exactly right, which would be "her way". I'd hate to have to stop coming here, but I certainly have started going to Costco more frequently for basic staples, and farmers markets for fruits and vegetables. read more

I had my wedding cake and cupcakes made by Nancy at this Safeway, which turned out AMAZING. Not only were they affordable, but Nancy and her staff went above and beyond for us to make sure we had what we were envisioning. All of our guests asked where we got the incredible cake and cupcakes and were so shocked when we told them Safeway. Brides-- do it, it's so worth it I promise! This review is based on my experience with the store in general. So I finally have had enough of Safeway in Gilroy. I was looking for regular French bread but the bakery was out of it. Right at the check out stand they have a kiosk with Safeway french bread with a sign that say "if it is not hot it is free" with two different hours: 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. And to my surprise there regular French Bread. I put it on the little conveyor belt and started the check out process at 4:51 p.m. For the heck of it I asked the clerk if it was free since it was not hot. She told me the lady in front of me had hot bread. What the heck does that have to do with my questions??? I said, "That may be but mine is cold so it is free"? She said there was hot bread in the back of the store if I wanted it. I again told her what the sign said right above the bread I pulled and again she said there was hot bread in the back of the store. She had it in her mind that I would have to go and get some hot bread so it would not be free. I felt like I was in a stage act of "who's on First"!! Nob Hill here I come. I grew up going to Safeway and I still go there. It's for sure cheaper than nob hill. I also know where everything is because the store hasn't changed since maybe ever. There is the one cashier, you know who I'm talking about. Talks way more than she checks out, I avoid her line. She's really nice but most of the time I'm trying to get in and out rather quickly. I've never really had an issue with the store except the huge lines! At dinner time and about 10pm when they count out the drawers and shut everything down. Maybe my review is based more on the fact that I grew up here and I know it well. But I personally come here over nob hill all day but those reasons are my own read more

Worst Safeway ever. Today I went in to use my WIC being 8 months pregnant and was treated horrible. Everything I got I've been getting the last 8 months since I gotten WIC. The cashier was rude and denied everything I was getting even though I have receipts back till April with the same items I have to get every month. she was rude and had a smerk I wanted to slap off her face. Have been coming to this Safeway for a week getting sandwiches from the deli, I have had excellent service every time. I didn't speak clear enough ordering today and I had to stop the sweet lady to tell her I had meant something different. She clarified what I had meant with me and continued to make my sandwich without any fuss. She has been sweet every time I've been in, thank you Domiltila! They recently remodeled so it's a lot better now. I come here every week to do my grocery shopping and their customer service is good.

I love the remodel! Especially more butcher meat options. The butcher, Daniel? , always is so helpful and orders the bison and Kobe which I LOVE! He also is always on top of Argentinian shrimp when it's on sale and those things are amazing! I try to go when I know he's working because he goes above and beyond. I'm there every other Monday and most weeks it's pretty fully stocked. I still have a few issues with expired products left in produce or dairy and sometimes meat but I'm careful to check. It takes me so long to shop trying to plan for two weeks and getting things for my neighbor that I do get frustrated trying to find some things in code still but overall I see a great improvement since the remodel! read more
