The shelves aren't curated by a marketing department; they're curated by necessity. By experience. By knowing what your regulars will come back for next week. You won't find polished displays or self-checkout kiosks here. You'll find authenticity. The kind that can't be manufactured. Some places are built to attract everyone. This one was built for the people who already knew where to look. And somehow, that makes finding it feel like you've been let in on a secret. Five stars. Small neat store on First Street. Staff is friendly. You can find a lot of Filipino items like small shortbread cookies that you didn't know you needed. There are Filipino brands of chips and sauces. There are also some things from other countries like South Korea. read more

I live in morgan hill and this is the closest Asian mini market close. They have your Filipino vegetables, condiments, and pastries. Pastures are from Valerie's but they are picked up to be fresh. I enjoy the frozen section for the lumpia wrappers, longanisa and milkfish. They also have the pancit noodles I like as well as the mama sita seasonings! This is Filipino owned and the staff there Al are quite helpful and friendly. Anything you need they can assist you helping find something. I purchased a parole here and they were able to order the one I wanted specifically. It is quite small but definitely has what you need. Ambiance is quite cozy. It is a bit on the higher side of pricing but you would pay the same driving up to San Jose. read more

Pros: Fairly clean (spotted a couple of flies inside), variety of items needed for all your Filipino cooking ingredients, and a few snacks to boot. Cons: Not quite as friendly as everyone claims--When we first came in, granted he was ringing up customers-not an ounce of greeting came our way. Mind you, it only takes a second to look up and say hello/welcome/Mabuhay/ whatever welcoming gesture it takes would have been nice. Moreover, when the store emptied out, he (the owner) just continued to do whatever he was doing without a word. Upon checkout, still no hello. Just started ringing up our stuff. I'm the one that started a conversation to give him the benefit of the doubt. Meanwhile, my husband was bagging on the other side (Not something he was obligated to do), no reaction there, either; or help in pushing the items towards my husband's way. Lastly, adding salt to injury--the lady that was in line after me was asking all sorts of questions, and the owner engaged in conversation with her, (talking over me at one point), continually as I was finishing the check-out process. As all others are saying -- finally a Filipino store nearby in Gilroy! It wasn't too long ago that I had to drive all the way into San Jose just to get certain Filipino things --- seasoning packets, bananas for turon and bagoong. Now it's here in Gilroy! I went yesterday just to check it out and yes, they have all the Filipino staples -- what I mentioned above and also bakery items from Valerio's, pan de sal, so many snacks/candies, canned/jarred goods, frozen longaniza and lumpia and I scored ube ice cream (which he said has been selling fast). I left with a bag of assorted ube goodies. Very nice and friendly in there, too. Let's support this local Asian grocery store so that they stay! read more

My first time getting some goodies and groceries here after my Dental Appointment at Gilroy Dental Smiles (love them!!!) I spoke with Rod and he was very Welcoming , nice and helpful by giving me a basket to put my groceries in. Elay's to me is Perfect, they have an AMAZING selection of Everything you need from Valerio's , Snacks , Canned food, Freezer foods and Fresh Vegetables! I needed some lumpia wrappers and saw on the reviews that they had frozen ones here. The cashier was a very nice. This place is very small but they do have some very nice specialty items. I have gone here a few times now and I am very happy they are located in Gilroy. read more

Great location and great selection. We grabbed a few things we needed for cooking and done snacks that you cannot find anywhere else in the area. Very happy we have this small market in gilroy. Shrimp chips, avocado ice cream, sardines dried, different types of noodles, canned goods etc. And can't tell you how much money i saved on prices. Very happy! Thanks read more

THE ONLY ASIAN/FILIPINO STORE IN GILROY! We used to go to San Jose or Milpitas for all of our food. My fiancé is Filipino and he loves it here. The owner was very friendly with us our first visit. We got frozen tocino (which I was skeptical about) but it actually tasted really delicious! We got pastillas, ube cakes and many more. This is such a great addition for our little town. read more

Please send them some love, since they're new and upcoming. It has all the neccessary items like asian vegetables, soups and spices here. the store is very clean and most shelves are empty but maybe when they settle in, they will have more inventory. Girlfriend says she will visit this store more often. I hope they will have more customers....please support our local shops. read more

Staff is super friendly and helpful, store is clean, they have a great selection of pastries and snacks you gotta come on the right days to get their ice cream though, they sell really fast! What an amazing store! It's clean and well organized. I hope they will continue to prosper because we are in desperate need of a Filipino store here in Gilroy, which I consider my permanent home. Due to mobility problem, I get helped from my youngest son, he always picked-up something for me at the store. He is the one person who helped me a lot. He will never stepped his foot in any Asian stores but Elay's is clean, its different and I'm happy that he likes this store. I just hope that they stay safe and well while Covid is on the rise again. Good luck with the business. read more
