It has easy access to and from the parking lot no matter what corner you're coming from. It is a larger station so plenty of pumps. Ah, Buc-ee's. I'm from Texas so I'm very familiar with this Texas institution. I've been to…read moremultiple locations countless times. It's a non-negotiable on a road trip in Texas. So I was more excited to hear that Arizona's first location was opening in Goodyear. Knowing the popularity of Buc-ee's though, I wanted to wait a bit until the hype died down. I stopped by on Labor Day on a somewhat odd hour, around 3 p.m. Despite the time, Buc-ee's was still completely packed. It was a madhouse. I've never seen anything like it. Swarms of people. The main area where you can pick up brisket sandwiches, and other hot food, had a line about 100 deep. There were also long lines for fresh jerky and fudge. Madness. With that being said, if you avoided these areas, you could get in and out quickly. Which is what I did. On this visit, I got a Cuban sandwich, brisket mac & cheese (both located in a different area), a chocolate bar, and a Halloween Buc-ee's t-shirt. Buc-ee's is known for a couple of things: (1) the quality of their hot food and snacks; (2) clean bathrooms; (3) the iconic beaver mascot; and (4) the sheer size of them (everything's better in Texas). I would say the prices are on par with other gas stations, but you are getting better value. My only real gripe with Buc-ee's...they don't allow animals. If you're taking a road trip, you have a met, and you're riding solo, what are you supposed to do? A bit ironic given that their brand revolves around an animal. And the fact that every gas station in America (many of which also have hot food) allow pets inside.

Getting to watch them make the sliders, fudge, and all kinds of other treats right in the center of the store is a nice touch. However, I feel like this place might have been a little overhyped because, honestly, my experience felt pretty bland. The sliders were really good, but not for the price. I understand the meat is probably made there, and they cut everything right in front of you, but $13 for a slider that was dry is kind of ridiculous. I got 3 sliders, Beaver Nuts, mac and cheese, and 2 fountain drinks, and my total came out to $57. If I'm being completely honest, that $57 would have been better spent at an actual BBQ restaurant or dedicated smokehouse. At that price, I expect something really delicious, and unfortunately, these fell short for me. The plus side is that I really enjoyed the Beaver Nuts and the mac and cheese, so it definitely wasn't a total loss. Overall, I'm glad I got to experience the place and see what all the buzz was about, but I honestly felt a little oversold on the experience. I probably won't be returning.
