Safeway is clean, big and staff is usually friendly. I'm giving it 2 STARS because I have experienced bad produce here on MANY occasions. I have gone there a couple of times and their basil was all wilted and they never have any new ones in the back. I have also found Zucchini and Bitter Melon that have had mold on them. NEVER ORDER DELIVERY FROM THIS STORE OR FROM SAFEWAY EVER!!! I have had the WORST delivery experience I have ever had with Safeway. On Sunday I went through and spent a lot of time looking for deals and putting together a cart. I was signed in, but the app crashed and I had to redo everything. Then on Monday 15 minutes before the delivery window, I received a call from the store saying they had canceled my order, with no explanation. I asked if I could reschedule and the women said no and that, "that's the way it is". I then added everything to the cart to order again but was unable to use my promo code. I called the delivery hotline and after waiting on hold for TWENTY minutes someone picked up and after another 5 minutes on the phone, gave me a new $10 promo code. Moving on to today (Tuesday). I received the order, but I was dismayed to find that over a third of the order (around $75 worth) was missing. These are items that they said they filled. Not only that, many of the coupons I was supposed to receive never got reduced in price, even though it showed on my order confirmation the adjusted price. I called again to get a refund. The woman on the phone processed the order was very terse and had a dismissive attitude. After going through the list of the refunded items at the end, I wanted to explain my experience and frustration with this process. Her response? She said goodbye and hung up on me. This has been a DREADFUL experience and I will never be going or ordering from a safeway ever again. read more

I have been using this Safeway for a long time and yes they carry all of the things you'd expect in a grocery store, but the people really make a difference. They're good at opening lines when it gets busy and I can get people in different departments to help me find items. I know most of the workers in the store after shopping there for so long and enjoy talking with them. Everybody has a story or a kind word. Since the Covid lockdowns, it's good to see people going about their business. This is like a family grocery because of the people. The store is nicer after the remodel. Love the self checkout lines. I think the store is safer now too after they moved the alcohol and small hygiene products into a more secure section. Yay! I can get razor refills and shaving cream. Whether you're there for the convenience or the people, this store works hard for your business. read more

I feel weird writing a review of a damn grocery store but I can't hold my tongue any longer. 1st complaint, THE HOURS ARE NOT POSTED ON THE DOORS ANYWHERE (this will come up later). I read another review where they said no one seems to care working there, with the rare exception this is absolutely true.. customer service dies when you walk in the door. So going back to not posting hours. At some points during the day, they close one side of the entrance and don't post any signage or anything explaining why, or that the other doors are open causing people to see the locked door and LEAVE because they think the store is closed. The customer service at the Starbucks located in the Safeway is HORRIBLE. They're never able to get my drink correct and have to ask multiple times throughout making the drink what it was I wanted. Get a sharpie so you don't have to keep asking the customer. Also, if another customer is waiting, it's generally nice customer service to at least acknowledge the customer with an "I'll be right with you" or a nod...anything. And thank you to the young barista who made herself a drink while making mine and couldn't acknowledge the person next in line. I never seen you make 2 drinks at once before. Today will be the last day that my husband and I ship at this location. There were no checkers open. Only self checkout. We shop every three weeks so we always have around $800 worth of groceries. The woman that was at the self checkout had the worst energy and hovered over me and my husband as we were scanning our groceries. We are a young couple and couldn't help but feel like we were being especially focused on as we were scanning our items.... Then confirmation when she came up to the check out and made a comment that there was an error. We responded, " we would have gladly went to a checker who is paid to scan and bag our groceries, we're not professionals". She responded with a rude tone "excuse me....Don't have an attitude... You need to pay attention when you're scanning... You're on camera" then she proceeds to the phone and calls security on us.... Done .. we left the remaining items and the scanned items right there, smiled and waved "thanks for your great customer service" sarcastically of course. Never again. I will take my $800 elsewhere. Customer service at this Safeway is awful. I was racially harassed by not 1, but 2 employees on separate occasions. First off, the old white male cashier greeted me with "Nihao Konnichiwa" in a very rude, mocking tone and then proceeded to make an innapropriate remark about my appearance as if I couldn't understand what it meant because I apparently can't speak English. On my way out, the woman manager with glasses gave me the dirtiest look Ive ever seen and tried to accuse me of stealing even though I clearly paid for my items at the register and was literally holding my receipt. I have been going to this Safeway location for the past two decades, and even though the quality of staff and customer service have declined, it was still our neighborhood Safeway. However, after this week's terrible experience, we won't return anytime soon. The poor experience solidified how rotten things are internally at the core. Some of the staff there have little understanding or concept of what customer service is really about. One of the staff was exuding her nasty attitude and annoyance with the customers, including me. When I confronted her, the manager stepped in and escalated the situation by shifting the blame on me without understanding what had happened. And when I tried to explain the situation to her and share my experience, she called me names. So crazy! The situation could've been resolved within minutes if the customer had been heard and the manager was doing her job. I have never seen a manager in customer service who is so ignorant, biased, and quick to jump to conclusions, and completely disregards and underestimates a customer's concern, then accuses the customer of the incident. Lastly, when I called corporate to report the incident, they said a District Director would call me back within 48 hours, but nobody ever did. I am unsurprised because if corporate leadership isn't doing its job, how can I expect the managers to? There are many grocery stores in the area, and unless Safeway steps up their game and improves, they will continue to lose business, loyal customers, and reputation! read more

This Safeway is just too big. Even on weekends it never feels crowded. Often I am the only one going down an aisle. You have to get to the checkout area to see most of the other shoppers, since so few of the check stands are open. But I prefer it this way compared to the crammed conditions at the Irvington Safeway. A few negatives; They are often out of fresh deli foods like rotisserie chicken or it's not ready yet. Produce like strawberry's, berry's and grapes have turned rotten, and they are still trying to sell them, and of course long checkout lines. Positives are that the shelves are always neat and well stocked. very clean store, from top to bottom. Employees say hi to you when you pass by them so you feel welcome. Good selection of magazines. They are also willing to go the extra mile for you. They were out of garlic bread, and I asked if there was any more, and one of the bakers took a loaf of regular bread and made garlic bread out of it for me on the spot. Considering all, a better grocery shopping experience than most stores. read more

Here's the thing. I've been going here since they opened, and will probably continue to go because they are really the only choice nearby. I have gotten to know some of the checkers,and really they're quite nice. Parking is always available, and the strip mall feels very safe, day or night. The store is clean, well lighted and modern feeling. However over the last two years, the line situation has degraded to truly terrible levels. My sole complaint is the lines. They have over a dozen checkout registers, and never have more than three open. The lines are almost always four or five carts deep, often more. Furthermore they don't have adequate numbers baggers, so much of the time, the checker does the bagging, further slowing the already long line. I often do my own bagging to speed things along. It's clearly a case of inadequate personnel (at least those that are qualified to do the checking). They don't employ self-checkout ... so people with a few items are often giving up, and walking out. I see that every time I go now. The customer's annoyance is stressing out the checkers (I have a feeling it's not their fault) which is leading to an overall stressful and unpleasant experience for the shopper. So why do I keep going? Purely economics of time. I figure I waste 10-15 extra minutes in line over a well run grocery store, but the closest non-Asian grocery is further than 10 minutes away, even more in traffic. One _good_ side effect of this situation is that I have discovered how fun it is to shop at the Ranch 99 and Marina markets. No, I cannot get everything I usually get, but it has expanded my cooking repertoire, particularly in seafood! read more

This store needs serious upgrading. The place, while never really crowded, never seems to have enough employees to handle the traffic at the checkout stands. The store need to install self checkout stands. The deli needs more than one employee especially at lunch time. It's a shame this is the only grocery closest to my office, but I am willing to drive further for better customer service. read more

What happened to all the checkers? To keep customers happy there should always be at least 2 checkers available (for those who don't want to self check). Also, self check registers don't work well and continually lock up requiring assistance. Being stuck in traffic on the way home on Mission Blvd. is the worst! I was starving and knew there was no way I would make it back to San Ramon with out eating my own arm. So I came here to stop and rest from traffic and then get something from the deli. They had a nice looking Apple and Brussels Sprouts Salad and a side of Chicken Tenders. I only wanted 2 Chicken Tenders and the guy pretty much forced me to get more because they were on sale. I didn't want more because I was going to be in my car for so long. The Brussels Sprout Salad was terrible. I would kick who ever invented this salad in the shins. It consisted of pretty much hard stem ends of the Brussels Sprouts. They were hard as a rock. It was impossible to eat. The only being that could have eaten this would have to have been a low land gorilla. Sorry I don't have the mandible strength to chew through raw Brussels Sprout stem ends. My one joy from this visit was the Iced Americano from Starbucks, which is located inside this Safeway too. I took the rest of my now soggy Chicken Tenders home for my kids and didn't even eat more than one bite of the salad. Bleh! read more

Man, been going to this Safeway forever. Of course, very convenient. I never went to the Butcher but tried getting some fresh cut Ribeyes today. The short white dude with balding white hair was such a waste of time. He first looks at me like I'm bothering him... then this unprofessional d-bag tells me to look at the packaged section for my meat. He then turns to this dude Mikey and they grab some pre-packed stuff that they claim is freshly cut. I'm not one to argue so I was about to take the packaged cut (that btw looked like shit). but when I was about to leave I hear these two guys snickering at me like they pulled something over on me. Wait until I'm gone before hi5ing each other, goofballs. lol I just tossed it back to them and asked for a fresh cut but then they wouldn't do it saying that they ran out of that meat type. Which is fine but don't be there like a couple of low lives trying to pulling something over on a customer. Definitely, som high school stuff for some grown-ass men to do. I had the worse experience at this particular safeway. Usually I go the one in Newark because they are very friendly here. Sunday night my husband and I were shopping and he had wanted to get a mylar balloon that was in the flower department. As he tried to move the potted orchids get the balloons, he knocked over 2 of the small potted orchids. Immediate the "evil chinese florist" came with her broom, and she gave us dirty look. My husband tried to help her pick up the glass pot and she never even once said, "maybe you shouldn't because you can cut your hand. She let him pick up the pot and then again gave both of us a dirty stare. I said this is a accident and she looked even more annoyed. I told her "okay, I will purchase both of the plants since the pot broke. She handed a potted orchid to me and told me to tell the cashier to ring it up to 2 of these. She was so rude. After walking around the store I thought "this is not a chinese place, do you really "BREAK AND YOU BUY" that so China town. Sure enough when I went to the cashier and told him what happened he said, "yes, you break and you buy". Never knew safeway operated like that. It is our fault that we broke the potted plants. Safeway - Specials promoted on flat screen - Grocery Near Me - Fremont, California

One of the newer Safeways in the area. However, it is one that is not too busy no matter which time of the day I visit. Great for getting in and getting out! I usually will pick up my gifts of liquor at this store because the liquor selection is well presented and the selection is huge. The wines, beers and proof beverages selection is excellent - sometimes there is too much to choose from. Prices are not the reasonable. I have been to the other departments and like their selection but the prices are not as competitive for the area. There is a lot of competition in the area for groceries and I hope they get a chance to look over the other markets in the area! They do have a pharmacy in the store. However, there is a Walgreens Pharmacy right next door to this one. It does make things interesting for the pharmacy customer. It seems like each time I visit his store, I have to pick-up some rolls from their instore bakery for eating later. I enjoy the freshness and ease in picking up the rolls. Makes a great meal at times with the indoor Starbucks. Service has been great from the clerks in all the departments I have visited! Overall, a great place for the specialty need. I just wished they were more competitive with the others in the area! read more

Stopped here last night - there was hardly anyone in the store, but the store was fairly clean, neatly stacked and staff helpful. So the reason for stopping was a last minute baby gift I had to pick up.. yeah 10pm at night not going to find my places but to my delight this safeway had some great premade gift baskets! I picked a pink one up for $20 for a baby girl for a colleague at work. It was a bit pricey for 4 things (receiving blanket, wash cloth, keepsake hand/foot print thing and a little teddybear), but very cute. Absolute worst Safeway I've ever been to! If I could give this store no stars i would. Terrible customer service in store & over the phone. I called in to make a To-go order from the deli for lunch and got transferred 2 times before someone answered and yet still didn't reach the deli department. When I finally did the lady was real rude and said she'll tell someone who's on shift to take the call because she's on lunch. When I got there nobody was there besides a guy making sushi & my order wasn't even made. I called 30 minutes ahead of time to avoid this. You know when you're out on vacation and instead of checking out the city at night, all you wanna do is head back to the hotel and watch reruns of Fresh Prince and eat cookies? I thought so. After a long day of sight-seeing, we dropped into Safeway to grab a half gallon of milk, some donuts and other munchies/beverages. I noticed upon walking in that there was only one register open and a line was starting to form up. I didn't think much of it and continued through the store. Through the overhead intercom, I heard that their system was down and they would be up and running soon. We got in line and waited some 15 minutes or so. It appeared that the register had begun working again. Three, maybe four customers were helped. But then it died again. I busied myself with US Weekly and People, reading about Ben and Jen's failed marriage as well as stuff about Princess Charlotte. Hubby came by and said we needed to go. We'd been waiting for over an hour. I guess my highly educational reads, coupled with the reward of donuts and milk back at the hotel, was enough for me to turn a blind eye to the horrible customer service that was ensuing. In situations like these, if the store cannot do manual transactions, or even cash transactions, then they should continue to notify the customers waiting in line that it might be a while, or close the store temporarily. But no, the manager, or whoever was in charge that night, was holding a phone to his ear for ages without getting any answers and no announcements were being made on the intercom. By that time, the line had become 15+ people long and customers were leaving their loaded shopping carts and exiting the store. We eventually did the same but I actually put our groceries back where we got them from (curse you, OCD tendencies). Safeway stores are usually the same. The difference is in how well the store is run and how nice the staff members are. The staff here are usually pretty nice and the store is pretty well stocked for the most part. The only time I've ever seen them run low on things is on New Years Eve when we tried to get champagne... For obvious reasons lol. You know how you become a regular in a Grocery store, and you know the ins and outs of everything and the location of where all the items are? Well, I've developed this type of relationship with this Safeway. I think I know it so well that I'm catching the little things that are now starting to annoy me. I made a rush visit here one time to get a few items on my list. First, they didn't have 'Extra Thick Bacon' and the bacon they did have was the 'cheap' kind...so I realized after purchasing this type of bacon for over a year. I came into realization of this tragedy when I bought bacon from Lucky's, a few blocks away...that's when it really struck me! Second, they didn't have my hairspray on the shelf (out of stock)...it's TreSemme Extra Hold - EVERYONE has that! And Finally, the strawberries weren't listed as 2/$5 - as the Safeway in San Jose. Random Thoughts That Run Through My Head While Visiting This Safeway: {This Safeway is a bit smaller than the other ones I visited. Some of the items can probably be better organized. Why is there ALWAYS someone smoking outside! Oh Gosh, not this cashier again! Really?!} On a positive note, however, it is one grocery outlet that is not too busy no matter which time of the day I visit. Great for getting in and getting out! Simply put, STAY AWAY from this location! As the negative reviews continue to come in, let it be a sign to avoid this site at all cost! The setup of this location is far more different than the other sites, as they have the alcohol and medicinal products barricaded and expect to check out in this section. I had the pleasure in waiting 30 minutes due to the incompetence of the cashier, Gavin. His tone towards the customers and how he carries himself customer service wise was truthfully cringeworthy. Almost every customer, he had to call for assistance for a void and or an override. This was no exception for me. When it came to my turn, I had 5 items but somehow was run up as 8 items totaling to $35 over the cost of what my actual total was. Apparently he rung me up twice for two separate items. Luckily I was able to address this before walking away, and when explaining the situation to him, it was as if I was talking to a mute. He simply couldn't comprehend the mistake and wasn't fully engage with the situation as he was more concerned about "going over my 5th hour for lunch." Now don't me wrong, I can understand the situation to an extent as I worked retail myself, in which groceries was one of them and now currently in healthcare myself, stress and workload can pile up but I would never let it detour my work ethic or customer service. I would simply continue to work and figure it out down the way. May I add, he now has a HUGE line building up. There's obviously a staffing issue, as no one bothered to call for extra checkers. Gavin's attention surely was missing as he overcharged me $35 more than my total, didn't understand his mistake until I took the time to correct him, then when processing the return, didn't give me clear directions on what is needed from my end (first told me to insert my Card and put debit, then said sorry it needs to be credit) to my surprise, I have 3 pending charges and am currently waiting for it to adjust. Such an inconvenience... poor me. Lastly, they are "out of bags" so if you're purchasing more than 5 items, you're fucked. Hope you can carry your groceries. The customer in front of me had quite the conversation with the manager, Gina, who insisted that all Safeway's are in a similar situation and are out of bags. (This is false as the Washington location had bags, as well as the Mountain View. )What could have been responded in an apologetic way, she simply took the petty route and gave off a rude response and decided to write off the customer. She told the customer that she can grab a box as if it were Costco. Rather than retrieve a box for the customer, the customer herself (who is a healthcare worker) goes off and grabs the box which was a banana box intended for recycle which obviously had a hole in it. I mean what purpose does it serve. Goes to show what type of ethic is carried here. Did I forget to mention, there's a ton of bums here. I managed to witness one, belligerently walk into the alcohol area and grabbed some alcohol and told the security guard lady to fuck off and she proceeded to walk out. Word to this, the Warm Springs Safeway. Part of the "Safeway 2.0" movement of having the stores have a natural feel and a farmer's market-type produce area, this Safeway was a welcome addition to the neighborhood, especially as the quality of Lucky's/Albertson's across Mission Blvd stayed on a perpetual decline over the years. Service such as the bakery and the florist at this Safeway has been nothing but top-notch. Unfortunately, Fremont's other Safeways (such as the one in Irvington or the other at the Hub) pretty much suck in all their fluorescent glory - so head on down to this one for as close of a Whole Foods feel as Fremont's going to get (until, rumor has it, an actual Whole Foods opens up across the street). read more

I'm very hurt and saddened by today experience with the manager (Rodriquez) at Safeway in Franciscan Center. I'm a regular customer of this Safeway because it's my neighborhood supermarket. I never had any issue or problem with this location except today. I purchased many items including the sale on Haagen-Daz ice cream bar; the advertised price for this was $2.78 as Just for U item. When I went through the self-check counter, it registered as $3.50 so I asked the staff (Rodriquez) why it's different. His answer was 'I don't know' and I asked if he can adjust the price. He answered 'no' without any further explanation. At this point, I asked for refund and he said he cannot do it at the self-check and that I need to go to the 'customer service' counter. I went there and waited for at least 5-10 min and no one came. I went back to the self-check counter and request to speak to the manager. That same staff (Rodriquez) finally told me he is the manager, then I ask if he can help me at the 'customer service' counter. He answered 'no' and said he cannot leave the self-check counter. At this point, I'm beyond frustration. As I walk out, he yells out 'have a nice day'. I believe that was a sarcastic remark. I'm a 60+ yo Asian woman and Rodriquez just brush me off because of my ethnicity. If I was a white woman/man, this whole incidence would have ended very differently. I truly believed Rodriguez would handle this in a different manner if the customer is white woman/man. This is no longer a money issue but rather a discrimination issue. To many Asian out there who had been discriminated due to COVID-19, I feel your pain. We cannot stay silence; please share your experience so we can be heard. I apologized for this long post but I will continue to share my experience to as many people/social media sites as I can reach. How did Rodriquez get his management position? Bad customer service! Ordered my daughter's 16th birthday cake. When we were ready to cut the cake, it was someone kid's 4th birthday cake and it was not even the cake we ordered! Basically they screwed up two different family celebrations! When I went to talk to the store manager, he had no remorse and on the top he said since I did not bring the cake back, nothing he can do.
