This Safeway outlet is my go to place and kudos to them for keeping a great collection of organic vegetables/fruits, grass fed Milk and vegan cheese, kombucha and other organic vegan version of food items. Recent however, I've noticed a pattern where a single item is scanned and billed 2-3 times on the bill. I'm usually shopping here with my kids and don't pay attention to the bill most of the time. This happened to me 3 times In the last 3 months & I went back third time and called their supervisor ( her name's Iris I think !) to complain - she was nice and refunded the money (they had scanned the peanut butter thrice !) promptly and also gave me a $5 store credit for inconvenience. This isn't the cleanest Safeway location around but at least they keep their aisles clear of clutter and the store remains at a reasonable decibel even through peak hours. This location has some decent quality meats, cheeses and fish and if you watch the weekly updated sales ads, you can save a fair amount of money overall. I go to this Safeway because it's closest and convenient. Unfortunately the last two visits have been very unprofessional. Same cashier lady (I don't know her name ( "Gilly" maybe she is black, racist, and full of attitude) accused my partner of stealing alcohol when he was going to another line since her line was too full. Last time she also made a comment about his race and ID and made it into a terrible joke. She got called out today and my partner talked back. She had the boldness to say "I'm just doing my job you don't pay me bill". Lady you don't pay my bills either. Security is there for a reason and you couldn't admit your dumb ignorant mistake. I just endured the most reprehensible, discourteous, and vile "customer service" in years. "Angelina" at Check Stand #3 was abhorrently unprofessional and mean-spirited. From the get-go she had a cold, short, dismissive attitude. After I accidentally entered the wrong Club Card number, she viciously and rudely demands the correct number to enter herself. Like in a really mean and annoyed tone. She then slaps 2 bags on the conveyor belt, then rabidly demands that I bag my own items because the bagger walked away. There is a tactful and, well, nice way to interact with other human beings - "Angelina" has a lot to learn about being kind, courteous, and being a human being in general. I shortly returned to notify a manager/supervisor, and ended up speaking with "Weli" who assured me my complaint would be forwarded to "Mario", the supervisor. "Angelina" then spews/yells something at me as I refuse to acknowledge or engage with her as I walk out (while another male worker who looks like her twin, laughs and eggs her on). Nope. This is the WORST Safeway I have ever been to. The only employee that appears to give a damn here appears to be some sort of store manager. The rest of the staff here is awful. There are like three younger gentlemen that always appear to be there most days and just kinda don't care about anything at all. There have been times when I stood at the customer service desk for 15-20 minutes will staff looked at me - knew I was there - but still completely ignored me. To boot the parking lot is always littered with shopping carts, they are never collected. I do not know why I subject my self to this? I think this safeway is much better than other safeways in the area. Safeways in general have bad reviews and i think the majority of the complaints are due to understaffed check out lanes. I will co-sign this, even at this location, lines at times can be brutally long but I guess they just don't have the man power to keep more drawers in the registers. This has been my local safeway for 5 years. For the most part I can always find what I need and the Just For You app works well to keep my grocery shopping for a family of 4 under $100 each trip! At first I had a hard time finding my groove with the app but now that I'm a pro I shop easily without worrying about being stingy with our purchases. Most of the time everything is well stocked-- you'll want to ask when the produce is stocked though; sometimes produce displays can be completely bare. The workers are really friendly and over time it's easy to see that they recognize their usual customers. We moved recently and checked out a safeway closer to our new home and it was just NOT worth visiting again. While you may have a long wait in line (all safeways have a long line) at least the help is friendly, the customers you are waiting in line with are respectful (mainly families), and you don't really have to worry about getting attacked in the parking lot or anything. This is a big one! Grocery parking lots can be scary at night or during the holidays and the way this parking lot is set up there is lots of lighting and the speed bumps and turns kind of make it a deterrent for a 'quick getaway' should anything happen. There are occasional homeless hanging around.... a problem that seems to be growing in the area. I've had good experiences with the bakery and deli although the deli is a bit overpriced in my opinion. If they had more help I think the ratings would increase tremendously. I will continue to commute here for my groceries until I can find one closer to my new home :(. read more

My experience last evening, Dec. 28th, around 7:45 pm was shocking! I bought more than $100 worth of products, and found out I was being over charged for $.40. Not a big deal, I was not even planning to waste my time for that tiny amount. On my way out, I saw this woman sitting there chatting with another woman standing right by her side. I casually mentioned to her - here came the UNBELIEVABLE part - 1, she did not believe I was being over charged 2, she could not leave to double check the price, 3. Safeway is a regional chain of grocery stores that typically don't get reviewed unless they are awesome(the one in santa cruz), bizarre(the other one in santa cruz), or terrible (this one). It's nothing against this popular and common grocery store chain, it's just that for the most part they are interchangeable. Chain stores with many many many locations are like that. Anywhoo, it's got a great (ha) location right of that stretch of mission road which is essentially the world's worst interchange between highways. There's plenty of parking, and even though the highway engineers dropped the ball, the local city engineers have tweaked things so there's no real trouble getting in and out by car. Inside it's a typical safeway layout, with all the safeway stuff you'd expect. It's a medium to smaller sized store, totally reflected in the deli and bakery section. They are a tad smaller and in my opinion seriously understaffed. It's difficult to make purchases there, especially at the deli. Among other things, they don't stock some of the items you might expect that are common at other locations, such as rotisserie chicken, fried chicken, pre prepared sandwiches, soups, etc. Regardless of the time of day, I have never seen rotisserie chicken anywhere but behind the counter here. If that's a five dollar friday (weekly special) item, go to another safeway, you won't be able to get it here. Other reviewers have noted the differences in attention you get if you happen to be a member of certain demographic groups. It can happen. The experience when coming with my spouse (who is not the same demographic as I am) and when coming by myself was.......interesting. It's not the worst thing that's happened to us, but that sort of thing is never welcome. So, come here for all your safeway needs, give up on the fresh made items, and keep that receipt with you. This is the closest Safeway to my house and they have been super convenient at 10-11pm when I need something for the next day and can't go anywhere else. Granted that around that time, everyone else in the neighborhood has the same problem and the line ends up taking longer than it took to gather groceries. Typically I have a 4-star experience with customer service, but today was different. Today I received 5-star customer service from Jerry at the front-end and I wanted to thank him for making me smile. Starbucks conveniently located inside. - waiting for someone while they do their grocery shopping? Bring your laptop, they have FREE WIFI. No worries, they have chairs and tables inside (Starbucks). - Discounted items if you have a club card. Deli, Bakery, alcoholic beverage - to your left. Fresh produce, Flowers - to your right. Although this place is the closest Safeway to where I live, it's just a little ridiculous when there are only 1-2 registers open at any given time. I have never seen more than 2 ever open even when the lines are ridiculously long. The stock for sale items go pretty fast here too. It's probably because it's the hub for all the other folks living around. Still it's convenient and it's nice to just walk over. It is hard to imagine that there are already nearly 200 reviews for a major grocery chain, but clearly something is wrong with this store. I'm from Ventura, CA, and down there we have Vons, which is under the same ownership as this Safeway. This store is by far the worst major grocery store I can remember. And you can tell how little they care, since with a 2.5 average review on Yelp, most managers would seek to improve, but clearly they do not care enough to do so. Here are (some of) the strange, bad details of this store: The deli seems like it is never open, even at the high traffic times like 530 pm. Very hard to imagine why this is? No soups, no chickens, etc. They always have the lights at like 50% or lower, as if there are rolling black outs across the bay area or something? Rotten, over priced produce, with limited selection of the poor quality products, plus the costs are ~25% higher than they should be, and ~40% higher than my store down south. Only two lines open, always, as many others have shared. The checkers seem like it is their first day on the job. I am faster at a self check out than these checkers. I heard one guy say to a customer that he wished everything had bar codes so he didn't have to punch in numbers, or remember them. They are slow in their movements too, which is a sort of strange thing to recognize, such as the confidence in which they pick up and set down merchandise. They are also slow at bagging things. It makes you question their hiring policies, how can they all be like this? Is it a culture of complacency? I watched two girls try to think through moving mayonnaise from one shelf to another, and their conversation hurt my brain since the act itself is simply to move the jars from the third shelf to the fourth shelf... I feel bad even writing this review now, but wow, it is crazy. All in all, this is a profoundly bad grocery store. I can hardly believe it. That is not to say all Safeway's are poor performers. On the contrary my home store is a well run, highly functioning, vibrant, well lit, awesome store. I am going to go to their yelp and give them 5-stars now. Favorite Safeway that ever was. Unlike many other locations this one literally always has the items I'm looking for, great staff and plenty of parking spaces. Love their Asian/ethnic aisles because they're stacked with so many items including snacks I've never seen in other stores. Meat and produce are always very fresh and well priced. I also love buying flowers here. Like honestly just a great place to shop and a nice stop on my commute. If there's too much traffic I love killing time doing my grocery shopping here. read more

This safeway is always severly understaffed in general. The deli at lunch rush had one person working both the sandwich board and deli. It's terrible. The checker that helped me today wasn't even looking at the items he was throwing in bags. He was tossing soup cans on top of chips. I had to say something and it didn't help. Last week, I went through their new self check-out and it took 10 minutes for someone to come clear an alert so I could pay. I work nearby, so I've visited this store numerous times for 5 years. This has consistently been my experience. Seems like the store is worried about labor costs, but how much higher is it costing due to poor customer experience? Anyway, I just came into this location for a Starbucks Coffee at around 9:30 a.m. No line. Great!! Coffee wasn't what I asked for. Sad!! I didn't have time to go back and ask him to fix it. Still a great store. The cashiers are a little friendlier than before. Also, the people that work at the Starbucks seem nice, and are extra helpful with the customers. Even the pharmacy is friendly/helpful. The Sushi is freshest after it's made, but by nighttime it's not as fresh looking as it was when first made. It still looks okay. The pricing seems to be a bit higher than some other stores..I suggest that this Safeway discount the sushi after a certain time. Such as making it half or 25% off after 7PM.
