My wife and I shop here weekly for our grocery needs. Parking is plentiful and the shopping carts are lined-up outside. Their Produce staff are helpful and friendly, as are the Meat Department staff. Their checkers are OK too. However, the wait and the lines at the check-out counter get long. We typically have to wait a while to get thru the check-out counter. There are a few Checkers who aren't familiar with the codes for produce, since we've had to wait some time for someone to assist. I am pretty gosh darn upset right now. I have been here maybe 20 times in the last 10 months. Yes, I come here about twice a month for lunch. I get a sandwich or one of the prepared deli things like tuna salad, seafood salad, broccoli salad, etc. (I also get stuff for home too. Lunch meat, potato salad, soda, chips, whatever.) Today, I wanted to get a sandwich. So I'm waiting for one of the Safeway people to help me. I'm in the sandwich line, below the Boor's Head sign. But then the guy who was helping people at the fried chicken, french fries counter says, "one line". And he motions over to *his* line, which has maybe 5 people in it. What!?!? I've been here many times before, and the two lines are *always* separate. I've been to *other* Safeways as well, and the lines are *always* separate. So I left in disgust, as I wasn't going to buy *anything* here with that poor customer service attitude. I won't be back. BAKERY REVIEW: This review is specifically for their bakery, but as a side note, this Safeway has deteriorated in recent years. There are some friendly workers here, but usually all lanes are closed except for the one by the liquor area. And you're expected to bag your own groceries. I digress... back to the bakery. In short: - bakery service - 0 stars - customer service - 4 stars - cake - 4 stars The details... I came here to order a birthday cake and there's no one at the bakery. I rang the bell for service, and waited over 20 minutes. Finally I track down a customer service person to take my order. I came back to pick up my cake and there's no one at the bakery. I rang the bell for service but only waited 5 minutes this time before looking for customer service. A nice guy came to help, but he doesn't work in the bakery, so he didn't know how to box up my cake or ring it up. He calls a manager over to finally box up the cake and ring it up. The cake itself turned out really good. Light sponge with fresh strawberries. A bit on the sweet side. The design turned out even better than the picture (see my pics). The writing was accurate, so no complaints here. I find out that the bakery is short staffed. They leave at 1pm, and they are trying to hire someone for the afternoon shift. I would order from them again, but will come before 1pm. read more

Short Story: One of the cleaner and bigger Safeway's in the Fremont area! Long Story: I've been coming here for a few years as it's on my way home from work. I started coming here during the pandemic to get essentials such as milk, eggs, and bread. I then continued to come here. Andre has the worst customer service skills. For starters, he did not greet us. Secondly, he rudely interrupted us and said "Take the items out of the bin," not even a please or thank you. I was taken aback, I thought he was joking at first with how rude it was. Then, Andre carelessly threw my bananas to the bagger. They literally landed with a thud and I'm sure there will be bruises on them later. Andre then spoke rudely to his associate. Andre did not offer the receipt to us and did not acknowledge that our transaction was complete. He was so incredibly rude throughout the entire checkout process, I have never received such awful service in my entire life. I appreciate that this Safeway was open before 10 AM because I really needed to use the bathroom. I can't say much about the store itself since that wasn't my focus, but I did appreciate that the bathroom was easy to find - it's near the entrance, on the left-hand side if you're facing the store. The bathroom itself was okay - nothing fancy, but it had multiple stalls and got the job done. Grateful for the convenience! read more

I've been shopping at Safeway literally for decades. I think I have asked for a role of quarters only a few times. After Shopping, I very politely asked the lady at customer service if she could sell me one roll of quarters, and I was told they didn't have any to sell. I just can't imagine after two trips to Safeway today spending only about $80 on this trip that they would not make an exception to sell me one roll of quarters. I will absolutely go out of my way not to shop at Safeway anymore. There's plenty of other places to shop I think. No thanks. read more

I had to come back and update my review. There has been a huge improvement in the last year or so. I was going to new safeway further down to avoid this place because of previous experience. I love their floral department, they always have cute little items in the floral department, lots of varieties of flowers and plants to choose from. But what if don't like is that they separate their pharmacy from the other regular departments. So if I have to buy anything healthcare products or any OTC drugs, I have to wait in that long time that is usually manned by one person. It's very inconvenient to me. I wish they will consider consolidating all departments with one checkout. read more

Wow the service here is awful and the produce is rotten. Do not come here if you are in need of fresh produce as it is usually moldy, wilted or low quality. The black customer service woman is unfriendly and straight up rude. The white manager tomboy woman looks always pissed off and if you ask her for help then you're a nuisance. The Zombie Apocalypse is here! If you're looking for a fun apocalyptic experience, try the Safeway on Mission in Fremont! From the moment you enter you have to carefully look both ways. Not because of Zombies, but because there aren't any shopping carts. Or even hand baskets. It's part of the whole "scavenger experience" Safeway has curated for the necessarily wary customers who make the mistake of wandering in. There are Carts, and they are located in the store. Your mission? Find one! Once you have secured a means to haul out anything of value, good luck finding anything of value, with a reasonable expiration date. Most of the food items are close. Too close! The end of days thrill ride illusion Safeway has perfected is for all practical purposes, at first glance, the store looks totally normal. But like all Zombie districts, that's how they get you. Which brings us to the Zombies. Safeway has apparently selected the best staff to mimic what it must be like. You simply don't know who's friend or foe. Or the manager. But what you do know is checkout lanes 1,2,3,4,5,6,8, and 9 are forever dark and forever chained closed. Only 7 is open. Obviously. And what appears to be a hidden one in the alcohol section. Which is a dead end if you don't know how to escape it. (Survival Hint: Turn into the toothpaste aisle and scootch past the condoms and jog back to the center of the store to avoid getting trapped.) You're almost clear! But beware, the self checkout section is always busy, as shoppers damn the 10 item limit and frantically try a code, any code to get out of the store before the attendant can get to you to "help you out". Once through the self checkout gauntlet, don't let the warm familiar embrace of the Starbucks counter fool you. They're always out of whatever drink you can make the mistake of asking for. Because like this Safeway which is not a real one, the Starbucks isn't a real Starbucks either. Once you're out of the store with whatever temporarily unexpired purchases you could find, you breathe a huge sigh of relief. Like after surviving a scary rollercoaster ride. I was just visiting the store on a normal day, minding my own business and trying to get my grocery run overwith, when i see two people who look like managers walking alongside each other, a tall man and a woman with a cane. They were yelling at their employees and taking what seemed like a prolonged period of time lecturing their employees. Honestly concerning to me when the store seems fine as is. Im not sure what they talk about with their employees, but it makes me feel extremely uncomfortable seeing that the store seems to be run by managers who cannot display courteous professionalism around customers, and probably not even their employees. Prices skyrocketing and there is little reason to show for it. It's a shame to see how poorly this place is run and it feels hopeless that it'll ever get better. Outside the poor prices, this complex feels unsafe compared to nearby counterparts. There are usually beggars or people clearly under-the-influence asking for money throughout the entire parking lot. Nothing feels safe and secure here. Lastly, there feels like there no benefit shopping at this Safeway location (or just Safeway locations in general). Compared to the diverse complexes nearby or superior grocery stores like Trader Joe's, I just don't see the value shopping at Safeway locations. Anecdotally, this downfall tracks internally at the corporate level too. My close friend spent over a decade at Safeway corporate and it has been a hellscape the whole time. No one seems to work here! It is eerie! There are no checkout lines open except self check out and a weird one lane in the liquor aisle always with 10 people waiting in agitation. If you want to buy groceries and not spend 2 hours checking out, try somewhere else! They have these staffed "desks" like the customer service desk (for what??) and flower desk and bakery and deli etc which seem improperly prioritized in staffing when there is no one working the check out! Hello!! Common sense is calling! It's so unbelievably badly managed! Also the bakery doesn't take any orders. They just bake at random and hope someone buys what they put out. You can't even order just regular chocolate cupcakes (which they make normally) to ensure you have enough for a birthday party. Absolute shit show this store! I went in this morning to do a quick grocery run. It would've been a quick grocery run had I gone to the Safeway in the Fremont Hub, they know customer service. I go in through the first doors located by produce, the entrance to the store is blocked because they have restock carts. Fine, I'll go around, no big deal. I go around to go through the floral area. There are random carts that they use, the small gray ones all over the place with nothing in them. It was a maze to get through the area. I had to move the carts myself because none of the employees were even present. Okay fine. Now I go to the produce area, well stocked. However, there were tomatoes on the shelves that were bad and a damn mess on the floor over by the onions. Again no employees were around that looked like they were doing anything about it. Finally, I go to pay, what do you know, there are no Cashiers. WTH?! There is a special fenced up area they just opened, they have a cashier. You have to pay for your stuff there before you exit that area. Don't know why but that's ho they have it. By this time I'm pissed. I'm stuck scanning ALL my groceries which was a weeks worth. Were talking 70 to 80 bucks of food. A cart full of food. Let me tel you something, no one wants to spend their time scanning that much food! I don't care how much time you have on your time. I am a horrible bagger and its just too much for me. I was so pissed. I couldn't find some of the food items codes in the self check out, it was a damn mess. All in all, DO NOT COME HERE! The best safeway in Fremont in terms of size and products. That said, workers are always chatting with the person manning the self check out as it now seems to be the new water cooler. What took me over the edge is that January 2 2025 around 240pm a lady is walking around with a Large dog 50lbs+ who looks as it needs to bathe. By far, this is the worst Safeway I've ever been to. 1) You have two choices to pay for your items: The booze counter or the self-checkout, and both times I visited the store, the people at self-checkout were jerks. You can tell the difference between a person who is a jerk because they're in a bad mood and the person who is a miserable, human being. These two people were the latter. 2) I'm my stay was extended for work by a week. Restaurants were getting expensive, so I thought I'd get something from the deli. First time it was 6pm. Nope. Deli's closed. Second time (on a Sunday) was 3pm. Nope. No fried food. I'm shocked this store actually has customers. I cannot emphasize how poorly staffed this Safeway is. Regardless of time of day, there is always a long line and one to two check out counters. It is hard to comprehend why this location is always so understaffed. To make the shopping experience worse, the employees don't seem very happy here either. I have been here in the morning, at lunch, evening and even in the middle of the night a few times to pick up a missing ingredient before a holiday party. There is ALWAYS a long wait!! We finally gave up on this store. We had been loyal customers since they opened years ago at this location. In the last year or so it has really declined and gotten worse since the Manager, Iris, left. The carts are poor and hard to find, the store is dirty, there is less selection and the vegetables are not as fresh. I noticed the other day that the receipt had a section of random letters, numbers and symbols. I waited while the self check out manager was on the phone to inform her. It sounded like a personal call. When I showed her the receipt she just waved me away like I she didn't care. When I went back a week later the receipt had similar errors. This week we tried the Safeway in Milpitas. It was better, but I think we'll end up doing our weekly shopping at Raley's. read more

I have shopped at this Safeway for about 14 years now and have seen it decline dramatically in the past year or two. Notice how almost all of the 5 star reviews are from years and years ago when the staff used to be comprised of normal, well adjusted human beings. I am tired of the poor customer service and cashiers that look and smell like homeless junkies. I can tolerate an unkempt cashier with hygiene issues, but I cannot put up with those that are also rude. Whenever I've shopped here and had an encounter with some of the sub-human cashiers, I leave the store infuriated and vow to not shop here again. Me and my husband on separate occasions had bad experiences with a cashier named Robert. This guy is a sociopath that gets off on insulting the customers. For a middle aged grocery store employee who obviously failed in life, he is aggressively arrogant and condescending. When my husband checked out with him on an earlier occasion, he proceeded to criticize my husband's purchases and parenting. His jabs at my husbands purchases were a little too personal and frankly, it's strange. We've never had a cashier over-step and insult us like he does. Tonight I had the displeasure of going through Robert's check out line and after I paid, he asked me rather loudly if I have WIC or EBT in a mean-spirited way! I replied that I don't and he gave me this doubtful look. I have never been asked that and he was clearly trying to insult me (perhaps because of my race) and was trying to get under my skin. The Indian woman in front of me in line was also subjected to his snarky and condescending comments. Safeway management: This cashier is a sociopath that is prompting a longtime customer of 14 years to shop elsewhere. Where are the friendly, professional cashiers that used to work here?
