Good fresh produce
Dimitri A.

Nice clean store. Has a wide variety of options to choose from compared to other Safeway's I've been to. A big store with a lot of space. Not overly crowded and a simple layout. Pricing at these places makes no sense to me. I have bought some of the exact same items at Walmart for less, and there's no noticeable difference in the expiration dates, taste, or anything else. Maybe someone can explain this to me! *Pro Tip* If you don't have a Safeway/Raley's app, you NEED to get one. You'll save some $$$ with the deals they have which you can snip, pin, and once you check out at the register, the price will adjust on its own when you are about to pay. Hope this helps!

Red and yellow onions.

Safeway is my go to grocery store. First time visit to this location on my way home last night. A good stop. I think I will be going here instead of my closer one. Parking is able but I really like that there are lots of other useful stores close by. Easy to get a few things done in one trip. My closer store has the Safeway Gas which is great. This location does not but there is a gas station on the corer. Interior is laid out flowers and veggies on the left to bakery on the right side of the store. This is opposite of my usual location but I'll get it down soon enough.

We stopped by to pick up a "smash cake" for our niece's first birthday. Never heard of the concept until recently. Anyway, this Safeway was clean and relatively organized considering it was a chaotic Saturday afternoon in the beautiful city of El Dorado Hills. Employees were helpful and all of them had a face covering on. Most customers had a mask on too but I saw some without so perhaps it isn't 100% enforced at certain Safeway locations? Nonetheless, we found what we were looking for and was in and out within 20 minutes.

Safeway Tri-tip

I usually don't by my meats at Safeway. However, I was in close proximity and had to pick up some tri-tip. After looking lost at the butcher for few minutes, I was helped with the tri-tip. It was weighed, wrapped and tossed to me. Got home, unwrapped and noticed that half of the hidden bottom portion was fat. Never again!!!

Sweet Purple Ube Bun

I was on my way home, having picked something up from Granite Bay, my Waze app chose this particular Safeway as it is on the way home a little bit more up the hill. I needed pricey ground Angus beef (that I've only seen Safeway carry) because my cat who eats raw meat is a great big pain in the rear. She will let herself starve to death, otherwise. Anyhoo, on my way to the self checkout, the color purple caught my eye. No, it can't be (I tell myself)? But oh my goodness IT IS!! UBE FREAKING BUN!! It wasn't on my grocery list and honestly I'm on a strict budget at the moment, but it was a magical unicorn in a sea of chores and to-do lists. I HAD TO GET IT. Oh, and I'm on a diet right now (boo!), so I didn't get it for myself. I got it for my hardworking family at home. And I frantically urged them to try it right away. They said the bread faintly had the ube taste, very light, but it had the same sweetness and texture as your regular white siopao bun. But then, IT HAS UBE FILLING IN THE MIDDLE. My child who is stingy when it comes to praises said it was REALLY GOOD. And the bread itself smells like ube ice cream. Whoever it is in your that bakery made this, please please please give this person a hug from all of us. Please tell him/her/they to never ever move (unless you plan on being closer to my home). If your Safeway is the only one carrying this product, I will happily drive my $7/gallon diesel carriage weekly just to get these. I have a lot of family that have requested I bring them some. You're going to be my new hangout. You guys rock!

The elusive Narwhal cake!
Jason A.

This is a pretty big Safeway. With mother's day nearing, they had a bunch of displays up for the weekend, and still had plenty of room to navigate. The produce department looked great! With a much larger selection then I'm used to seeing at Safeways. We only interacted with a few employees, but they were great interactions! The Ladies in the bakery department were amazing! Amazing customer service from them! We were just kinda peaking at some of their pretty cakes and I was immediately (as if by magic, I didn't even see her back there) greeted and asked if I needed help with anything. Then I was very discreetly asked if the kids could have a cookie. (Kids take on the cookie, "ohhhh ya! It had a lot of frosting, I liked it. She was nice!") We ended up with a Narwhal cake! Haha Nice! All in all, it seems like a well run store. We had a good time, people were nice, the store was clean, and it looks like they work well with their vendors. Good job guys! Keep it up! So long and thanks for all the...cookies!

This particular Nugget has a fairly large upstairs patio area with tables, chairs, restrooms, water bottle refilling station, microwave, etc. Lots of grocery stores in this area have a downstairs lounge area, but being upstairs (but still accessible via a ramp and elevators) gives it an extra edge. Plus you can't beat that view of the Mercedes dealership. The salad selection is some of the best I've seen anywhere, although they are very pricey at about $10/8oz (which is why I haven't actually tried one). I came here in search of some tampons that I couldn't find at Target, and was thrilled that this store carried small boxes of single sizes, versus the huge multipacks they had at Target. I remember visiting Fork Lift like 10 years ago and really liking it - it is a sister store of Nugget Market I believe. The inside was massive, clean and well organized. My husband and I wanted to buy one of everything! Their produce section had every fruit and vegetable imaginable - it was also very visually aesthetically pleasing! I loved seeing their bulk spices, nuts, teas and candy options! Their butcher shop and fish section looked very fresh and can we talk about their massive cheese selections!? I was very impressed and they even had my favorite coffee for sale which is hard to find - the Blue Bottle Nola milk cartons. Overall, this would be my grocer of choice if we lived in the area - check out staff was also very friendly! Check them out!

Brought to you by the family-owned, upscale and very successful, Nugget chain of grocery stores. I became very well acquainted with the Nugget markets living in Davis. There were two stores not far from each other and they were always packed. I shopped at the smaller one as it was closer to my home. It is literally the only place I ever shopped for food.I cannot imagine shopping anywhere else. When I moved to El Dorado Hills 5 years ago... thank goodness there was a big and beautiful Nugget a mile and half away. My point is all Nugget markets are quite incredible. Nothing compares to them. Excellent quality, in-house prepared food, bakery... TDF, floral, meat department, liquor, and fabulous fresh produce section. Fork Lift is to me like the Nugget markets on steroids! I was astonished at the size of the store and cool inside architectural design. Yes it is hip! Super clean, well stocked in everything. Organized. Quite impressive. And the same great departments as I mentioned above that are available in the Nugget stores are right here too! The chatter is that the Fork Lift offers many discounted prices but honestly, I never see them. Then I heard the lower priced items are strategically placed in and around the store. Who knows. I enjoy taking the drive up the hill to Cameron Park occasionally just to wander around and marvel at this shopping mecca! Easy exit off the freeway and fast to find. Plenty of parking. Worth checking out if you are in the area or on the way to or returning from Tahoe. Did I mention super duper customer service!?! And weekly specials! Geez... a girl cannot remember everything.:) Here is to good eating!

I also am drawn to their frozen food aisle. It's like taking an international food tour... branzino filets from the Mediterranean Ocean, Portuguese custard tarts, tamales, simit Turkish bread, baladi Egyptian pita, Korean japchae, okinomayaki, tayaki ... just to name a few. Think about it; you can try a new international dish at a fraction of the price of making it yourself or going to an eatery. This location seems a wee bit smaller (square footage) than some other Sacramento area TJs I've been to. Not a deal breaker for me.

I've been to at least two dozen different Asian grocery stores across the Pacific Northwest, and this is one of the cleanest. I was so confused by this store's low Yelp rating that I had to go and read all the one star reviews, and I have to say, they're honestly all petty. One of them actually shows a picture of a perfectly okay apple with the caption "rotten apple." While it is a bit on the small side for a "supermarket," they seem to have all the normal staple items. Since my last review, they've started carrying kaffir lime leaves, and have added pre-packaged meals to their hot dim sum line.
