This new locale is a frigging disaster. Frequently coupons don't scan correctly, even the in store one's they slap on things. Their customer service is disasterous. It's either aggressive overkill, or a complete lack thereof. As I shopped the last area which was bakery / booze / deli for fifteen minutes, I saw a guy waiting @ the deli counter getting no service whatsoever, even though he was waiting patiently. It was no wonder he was upset when someone finally came along. All the meanwhile you're hearing over the intercom that there are employees roaming to talk you into a Safeway card. That turned out to be a bit of a high pressure sales technique. They were also oddly overstaffed, even though people couldn't seem to get help when needed. They're obviously also treating the staff like garbage. As I was checking out a supervisor came along n forced the clerk to sign something saying she was greeting customers properly or she'd be reprimanded. Corporate greed at it's best. I also agree with a previous poster who stated parking is a nightmare. Despite them wasting a bunch of money on a new street light. Treating customers n employees like crap just won't work in this town. Just sayin'. read more

This Safeway is lovely. The store is well-stocked, modern, clean and has a cozy seating area where you can consume your food and drink. The Deli has the friendliest folks, and they can whip up a mean sandwich. Love the hot case too--my only wish is that they had China Express or at least Chinese Food like in the Washington locations. I could care less about the Parking Lot however--in fact I pay no attention to it because I'm a cyclist! And it has a really nice bike rack out in front of the store that is right off of the sidewalk so there is NO need for me to even walk an inch in the parking lot! It really baffles me how many car consumers are in this town, Eureka is insanely small and easy to walk and bike in! Historically, Eureka's roads were meant to accommodate trolleys, therefore streets and parking lots are super narrow--and are not meant for a metropolitan populous. read more

Okay, the parking lot is less than ideal, but inside the store is lovely. Wide aisles, good selection and friendly workers. I live in Arcata but drive down here because even with the commute, the trip is both shorter and more pleasant than shopping at the Arcata location. They also are one of the only places in Humboldt county that has self checkout which my kids LOVE! I am never disappointed by my shopping experience here- highly recommend!! read more

Horrible service. Lady in signature cafe printed wrong ticket which charged me too much I didn't notice until after I paid. I took it back to her she laughed. I couldn't get anyone to help and customer service was closed at 7pm. The guy at the register watched as I waitged at customer service and didnt say a word..ie they are closed. The just for you card promotions are alright and they do have the best breakfast burritos but that parking lot is dangerous and a nightmare. The corporation doesn't seem to be to concerned about the well being of it's customers once they reach the parking lot. My car was keyed all the way down both sides in their parking lot a while back and the camera caught nothing even though I was parked two spaces away from the entrance it was located at. Also, leaving that parking lot is a way bigger challenge than actually finding a parking spot in the first place. read more

Safeway on Harris is my neighborhood grocery store. I have been shopping there for years. My complaint is not about the horribly designed parking lot...that is another issue. My complain is about the lack of white arrows on their parking lot....they have totally faded, and thus is putting many of us at risk. Just yesterday, I watched as two people walking from their car into the store and they were almost struck by a large truck turning directly into the wrong isle. Today, I had two cars, both driving in the wrong direction pin me in so close I thought we were going to be scraped by one of them. I have contacted the Corporate office in the bay area, to no avail. Now even the white lines that are in the parking area are fading...but nothing is a dangerous as the arrows totally gone. I have spoken to 2 managers in the last 3 months, they insist a work order is in, yet no work has been done. As Safeway is in process of leasing out this land, they are simply waiting and hoping that the new owners will do the work. Shameful on their part! Putting Profit before Safety. There is not one Grocery store in this town of Eureka that has such a poorly cared for parking lot. One day, as a result of their careless approach to safety on this parking lot, someone will be injured. Just shameful. PAINT those arrows and parking spaces! read more

It is always has a very clean environment with friendly employees and great service. We are not big fans of the prices and the parking lot is confusing, poorly labeled, and not safe due to people driving the wrong direction on one way lanes. but the signature café is a great choice for a quick meal. read more

Wow, new Safeway in Eureka! Way better than the old location across the street. It includes a starbucks for all the coffee drinkers out there. They lost a star for poor customer service. While visiting a friend and I stopped there for lunch. The guy making my sandwhich ingored me the entire time. My friend got some jojo's and was ingored when she asked for dipping sauce. Other than the poor service, its a nice new store. read more

Tyson is an absolute joy to be in line with. Friendly, fast, and always positive attitude. He deserves recognition! Every single time I come in, I get in his line regaurdless of if it is a tiny bit longer. Most staff seem to be equally as helpful and pleasant. Great Safeway with quality food and staff! read more

Always check the expiration dates on the things you buy here. My wife and I have purchased far too many items from this store only to realize they were expired when we got home. To their credit, we were always able to go back to the store for a replacement... but it really shouldn't happen so often. read more

My 11 year old kid could have designed a better parking lot. Whoever designed this should be kicked repeatedly in the private parts. The only logical explanation is that they must get kick backs from the body shops from all the accidents that constantly happen. I dont care how good the prices are or if they cashiers are nice or not, as soon as your done parking your in a bad mood the rest of the time your there. read more

Another unsatisfied customer that hates the parking lot: I come home with over priced groceries that become completely unfrozen while waiting in line BUT received at least one new FREE dent in my car with every shopping trip. I normally really dread having to go through the checkout line. Mainly because a lot of cashiers make me feel like an inconvenience. Alot of the time they're not smiling and they're a little bit rude. This evening I had an armful of groceries because I had forgotten to grab a cart and I asked a girl employee if you could please get me one from outside real quick I was standing right by the door but didn't want to put down my arm load of groceries to walk outside and grab a card. She told me to hold on and she walked away I stand in there for a moment and then realized she wasn't coming back. So I put down my groceries and got it my own card then it was the dreaded checkout line. But to my surprise cliff a cashier there made my check out experience very Pleasant. He was helpful and nice. He smiled. He engage me and polite quick conversation as he's quickly checked out my groceries. He didn't rush me when I went to pay. He was helpful and nice. He smiled. I should really give this dump a 1/2 star, but I feel inclined to go for the attempt at trying to be a little better than the old joint. 1-the parking SUCKS! Even after most of the town has gotten used to the rat-maze design, its still a b!tch to park, unless you happen to go at some time when everyone in town is drunk, or napping. 2-the LACK of selection. Ya gotta notice that 1/2 of all your favorite brands have been slowly replaced by 'Safeway' brand junk. Requests get filed in the circular as soon as you look the other way. 3-Yesterday my wife went to get something, and the ENTIRE meat department was GONE! No meat coolers, no butchers, no fish, nothing! Looked like a disaster warning had hit town 3 hours earlier. So, I called today, ask for meats, and got some guy named Jeff who claimed "hey, I'm not the refrigeration department, I'm just a meat cutter, so i don't know WHEN the coolers will be repaired." I asked if he thought tomorrow they would be back in service, he again, in a pissy sort of way said "I don't know. I'm not in refrigeration, I'm ONLY a meat cutter." I WILL say they tried to get it right, a small deli with nice cheese, some deli meats, etc. A bakery with an occasional good item or two, including breads. But thats about it. A last flaw-fresh fish. Everyone around here knows that Pacific Seafood supplies everyone in the area that sells fresh fish. GGRRRRR! Saffeway has Pacific Seafood ship everything to their distribution center in Tracy, CA, (about 250-300 miles south) so they can stamp it, and send it back to Eureka where it finally goes into the cooler. So, that fresh fish would have been about two days fresher if Safeway could figure out how to take delivery here, instead of trucking your (less)-fresh fish halfway down the state and back before selling it to you! They get about 15-20% of my business. I use the Co-op for about 80% of my shopping now. Its a little more cost, but hey-its better food, fresher, better tasting, and much nicer staff! read more

I went into this Safeway to get my girlfriend a cup of coffee from the Starbucks. The lady "Sara" was busy talking to another employee whole I was standing there waiting for her attention. When her friend left she ignored me for another 2 or 3 minutes before turning to me. She then asked me rather rudely "What do you want?". When I listed the drinks that my girlfriend and I wanted, (A tall Caramel Eggnog Latte and a Venti Strawberry Asci blended) she said "We don't make those here!" I asked her why and she said "we just don't." I let it slide and ordered a peppermint mocha. While she was making my drink I asked again "is there any reason you don't make the blended asci" she said very rudely "we don't make them Okay!?" then ignored us and made the drinks. I understand working in a food service business and it must be hard but her attitude is really what got to me. If I were you I would walk across the street to Jitter Bean and work with there great staff. That or drive the 3 miles to Dutch Bros. read more

The eureka safeway has 98% of the time, made me feel horrible by the time I leave. You would think working in customer service they would make a working mother who's doing right by her children, feel like trash because I have wic? You're going to roll your eyes at your customers, huff and puff because what, you have to do your job? Unacceptable. Absolutely hate going here, specifically look for one older man that's nice to me. I'll wait specifically to be helped by him. I bring my children shopping, they always get a balloon. Now I'm being charged for their balloons that take an hour for anyone to even fill and their so bothered their making my 2 year old smile? This place is literally the most negative uncomfortable place I've been. I've never been so embarrassed, confused and just down right treated less than. I come in each time with a smile on my face, child on each hip, my own bags and respect. And each and every time I leave feeling worse then when I came in? Sad world. read more

Nice big store but never completely stocked, found 2 out-dated things, the deli is useless, always 5 people in the back but no one wants to serve you. I went at 11:30am and there was only 2 things in the hot case. the meat department is beautiful and so is the produce. the parking is the biggest nightmare ever.Check out is Always lacking help, last time there was 6 people in line with only 2 registers open. when I asked if they had anymore checkers I was told that I could use the selfcheckout...so that was my last trip to Safeway. read more

I was in the store while they were busy, looking for jellied cranberry sauce, they were out, an employee named Cory spent over 10 minutes finding them for us ,there were more than 6 customers looking for the same item that was not in the shelf, Cory, Cory not only looked everywhere but kept coming back saying im going to check another place, finally after a serious search by him, he found them and passed out more than 12 cans to waiting customers, there were however customers, a few that were looking elsewhere i we promised we would ask the manager to announce the availability if found so myself and another customer who's friend was looking somewhere else we all figured they just did not carry them) when we approached the customer service they called the manager ,we explained that she had a few customers looking and waiting, she (LEE) said she would oblige and never announced it or even tried, 3 minutes on my way out , she was sitting drinking a beverage, I mentioned that Cory was still standing were the space for them should have been but there was no place for him to just stock on a shelf so he stayed there and passed them out and informed customers, Cory is amazing, I will never seek Lees help even for change, shes rude and condescending seriously needs training, this is the 3rd time I've been referred to her and ignored, Cory should replace her ,and to say the least be put in charge of customers, someone that works that hard should be recognized, , He even stopped to clean up some spilled coffee and never missed a beat, I will find the other customers that are extremely upset with lee and you and corporate will receive our thoughts, Replace Lee your store deserves it (one bad apple, you know) 5 stars for Cory! Went through tonight. Tyler was exceptionally nice to us, even though we had wic checks. I've been treated really bad at winco. He is a great checker I hope he is there for a long time. He told me he has been there 17 years. Go Tyler, you definitely deserve a raise! I will be back to safeway just because of the experiences I've had cashing my babies wic checks. Any where else I've been to act like the wic is coming out of their pockets, hey I am a tax payer too! I appreciate you safeway. The new store is nicer then the old one that was across the street.
