Stayed in Estes, not sure if this is the only grocery store in town, but maybe it is. It's always nice to be able to go to a grocery store and cook while on vacation. I mean we always get breakfast and snacks from the store when we get to the cabin so this store was great! read more

Safeway needs to get their act together but locals know there is little hope for that. Too many items out of stock and employees that don't seem to care about helping customers. read more

Has most of what you need but lacks quantity in the fresh vegetable department. Lots of juice, basic cheese, fruit. Deli is on the small side with meats. Sells wine, and there is a liquor store in the same shopping center for harder stuff. It's always crowded and lines are long. Seems to cater to the tourist crowd who are cooking in cabins and on grills. Okay if you are staying for a week. It does have the most beautiful view from the parking lot. read more

Overall the store was pretty nice! The staff were very helpful, the isles were pretty organized, but when you go to check out it'll take you 30-45 minutes just to get through your whole cart. The register stops you every time you don't put the item in a bag, and then it'll alert a worker to help you, and it went on for a long period of time. I wouldn't recommend this store. Unless, you are just going there for a few items. read more

All the other reviewers are spot on. This place is terrible - filthy, low stock, rude unhelpful employees, outrageous prices. When I first moved to Estes and attempted to transfer my prescriptions, the pharmacy wouldn't even answer the phone. Ever. I lived in Estes Park for a year, after a couple of miserable shopping trips to this place, I started doing my grocery shopping in Loveland, where the two Safeway stores along highway 34 are notably better. Not perfect, but better. What Estes Park needs more than another tee shirt and taffy shop along main street is a full service grocer to compete with this poorly run operation. Kings Soopers perhaps. There's plenty of space at the east end of Estes for such a store. But the residents won't go for it. They seem to like bad service, high prices, and limited options. read more

Everyone here is nice. There is plenty of parking and the store is clean and organized making it easy for shopping. Thankfully they have self checkout too. It's conveniently located in Estes Park at the bottom of Rocky Mountains entrance. If you're going camping or staying overnight it's a great place for last minute needs. read more

we call it Sleezeway. Richard the cashier is rude unless you are young, tank top, lots of eye lashes. I do not bag well due to an injury, he said he would help but then ignored me. items fell out of bags, broke open ( yeah bears). A nice young man helped but several items ruined. probably a bit of ageism here plus rudeness to locals. Shop before you get to Estes. read more

A fairly standard Safeway for a small town with only one grocery store. The stock is often limited with only a few of each item. The produce section is more expansive and fresher than I would have anticipated. There is also only a limited selection of wine compared to the beer. The self-checkout system is super buggy, so be wary of using it to escape the lines for the normal registers. The gas station is typically the cheapest in town, so be sure to fill up! read more

Pretty good selection here and it was clean. The only thing is the self checkout lanes are all mostly broken and it took forever. Staff seems overworked and could use some help. read more

The only real grocery store in town and located within walking distance from the Stanley Hotel, in which we were staying. Typical Safeway/Tom Thumb store. Clean and spacious with a nice variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. The pharmacy area is small but had what we needed, like cold medicine and decongestants. They only offer beer instead of the vast wine varieties most groceries usually provide, which was a bummer. The employee at the register was very nice and welcoming. read more

this is the worst experience I have ever had at any grocery store. They claimed to be open until 3 PM on Christmas and tried to close before the given time. They weren't letting people into the store and were also kicking people out. They even threatened to put hands on people. If you didn't know, it is actually illegal to close before a promised time. I would not recommend going here and would go to other supermarkets in town. read more

Saw a large mouse scurry under one of the aisles in the middle of the day. Couldn't believe my eyes.

The pharmacy at this location messed up my prescription, charging me $5.65 for something that costs less than $0.50. I only noticed after I got all the way home that they gave me 2 instead of 30. Got to remember not to trust retail pharmacies, especially when they have a sign like this taped to their front counter. This is not the first time this store has messed up my prescription. I believe that if they projected less attitude and focused on delivering a positive message in these times, the long lines elsewhere in the store would be tolerated much better. A "Blame the Customer" attitude is not something a publicly-traded retail store should be engaging in. read more

Safeway - This could be have been worded in a positive, non-passive-aggressive manner. - Grocery Near Me - Estes Park, Colorado

For mountain getaways and Estes Park vacations, this Safeway is a godsend. Especially when you get inside and see what a nice, updated store this is. The management does a good job up here, and it shows! We found everything here we needed without exception, and it all seemed to be priced identically to our store in Denver. Used my Safeway cats abs then got gas later. PS: The folks in the deli were really helpful! read more

If you want good customer service, the Safeway in Boulder is much better. You might as well make the 30 minute trip there instead. If you visit the Safeway in Estes Park, it's better to avoid Richard, the Cashier as he was super rude. He did not know at all how to work the Safeway app and did not even admit to it. He kept telling me he "was not able to help me at this time" despite there being no customers in line after me in a rude and condescending tone. read more

Just wanted to do a quick shout-out to Graham working the cash register this morning; being an absolute legend (as we say in Australia) enforcing covid guidelines politely and professionally therefore making us feel very comfortable. He also very thoughtfully packed our shopping! If we had more people like Graham in the US y'all would be out of this pandemic in no time. Good on ya Graham! read more

Great beer selection - all cold. Good location to stock up on provisions for a day in RMNP.

Midweek after July 4th weekend. Shelves are well -stocked, but checkout is torture. Plenty of floor staff, but only 2 checkouts operating of the 7 possible. 12 cart backup in both lines and self-service is just as bad. We were in line for 25 minutes. Our checker was pleasant but wears his mask below his nose. Welcome to summertime in Estes. read more

Seriously understaffed. The whole front of the store is two lines. One for self serve and one for the two lanes with tellers. A local said new management came in and let the good people go. Since the are the only grocery store in town, management does not care. read more

I have lived in many towns in the country and gone to many Safeways. The Estes Park Safeway is by far the WORST food store I have ever gone to. I understand it is not the frontline staffs fault. But the understaffing, ridiculous small parking spots and generally negative experiences I have had at this store are draining. Waiting 30 minutes in line to checkout is atrocious and unacceptable. Time for the town of Estes to consider other food store options read more

Again, I'm finding myself writing a bad review for Safeway! The Customer Service Manager lied and blamed Redbox for placing their box outside, when in fact it's Safeway who wanted it outside. So now it's sleeting and raining outside with predictions of snow and instead of the red box inside they have charcoal bags into old place. The main reason I go to Safeway when I do is for the Redbox. All the other Safeways have their Redbox inside, but no we're at 8,000 plus feet and our Safeway puts their Redbox outside. Not to mention there is usually a line at the Redbox. Who ever made this decision really doesn't think things thru! read more

Horrific customer service!!! I ran into buy a bag of ice and got in line behind one other customer that was just finishing up with their transaction. The cashier looked up at me and I said hello. No response. I stood for another couple of minutes while he finished up and took his time putting the cash in the drawer, still not acknowledging me. I waited for him to finish and then said, "Can I get a bag of ice please?" He looked up at me, turned off his light and said, "I'm closed. You'll have to go see her down the way." Then turned his back and walked away, leaving me standing there. I can't recall ever being treated so rudely. I guess when you're the only game in town you don't have to be kind to your patrons read more

Only 1 checker working at 6 pm on a Monday. Literally 100 customers in line while 7 employees in bakery were unable to help. I know staffing is hard these days, but this management is ridiculous read more

We were staying at a VRBO cabin in Allenspark. There were 12 in our party, ages 3 to 66. Safeway offered the best option for all the groceries we needed during our week-long stay. Our dinner entrees included spaghetti and meatballs, hamburgers, hotdogs, grilled chicken and chicken wings. Lunches relied heavily on meats and cheeses from the deli. Meals were rounded out with a variety of fruits and veggies. I'd recommend getting the customer savings card, if you're going to be in the area for more than one trip to Safeway. One example was 17 cents per ear of corn versus 59 cents without the card. Most items purchased had a store discount with the card. All the cashiers were friendly . . . downright chatty actually. The counter crew in the deli were helpful as well. We never had a problem with parking . . . always close to the entrance. read more

I normally wouldn't review a Safeway but Ken the butcher was so outstanding I felt he needed a shout out, I hope safeway knows what a valuable employee they have. read more

Very long lines at checkout..only 1 cashier station with a long line of customers and the self checkout line had more than 15 customers with full carts. This happened every time I went to the store..will this issue be addressed or the store management just doesn't care? read more

Me and The Hubs came to Estes Park this past November for a mini-vacation and stayed in one of the local cabins. We stopped in this Safeway to get some supplies and I was surprised by how well stocked it was and that it had a great variety of nicer gourmet-type food items (as opposed to just basic stuff). For the times we actually ate in our cabin, we ate very well! read more

Great people work at this store. My 90+ parents were living in Estes Park during COVID and because of the employees at this Safeway especially Bill Reorda they were able to spend this time at their own home safe and sound. This place totally blows, except that it's the only real grocery store in town. Oh, and the checkers are nice. But other than that it sucks. Especially in the summer, when it is overrun with tourists. The prices are WAY higher than the Safeways in Boulder. The produce is questionable at best. They don't even carry shallots. But, sometimes it's better than driving all the way to boulder. So, if you don't live up here, and are just visiting, do yourself a favor and do your grocery shopping before you come to town. Oh- one last thing. They do have a fast, reliable pharmacy if you need a prescription filled. Still just a two star joint though. read more

What's not to like? Big supermarket with everything you need- great fresh produce and meat, a bakery (donuts!), a deli, a pharmacy. Ample parking. Yes it's packed! You are in a tourist destination and this is the best grocery store in town! Peanuts, firewood, bandaids, aluminum foil for the campers, real food and groceries for the local households. Organic food for those who care about their temples. We always make a run when we first get to town, then it seems like we need *something* everyday. Safeway to the rescue! read more

Not a lot of options for groceries in town but I'm glad this location is here. The employees are wonderful. Very helpful and friendly. Get a Safeway card. Even if you only use it once. It will save you money. They have a great selection of anything you would need. A pharmacy, meat counter, floral, Starbucks and bakery. Yes... As another reviewer said: it is more expensive than if you went outside of Estes park. But that is a long drive. You pay for convenience. Until there is another option in town... You deal with it. read more

This was a great store with great selection. Great produce section and other normal grocery store items. The prices were good and with the Safeway club card the prices are even better. The bakery items looked nice and there were many things to chose from. There were many fresh produce items to chose from. Many fruits and veggies to chose from. The best part was the stock boy who knew were every item in the store was. He was a machine!!! The store was clean and pleasant. read more

For first of all this grocery store is by far the busiest one in northern Colorado especially in the summertime the hours that are posted on Yelp or wrong it's 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. they lock the doors at 10:55 all the employees are very very helpful anybody posting negative comments about this group of people working at the store obviously has had a bad day because they have no idea the trials and tribulations that every employee has to go through to accomplish good customer service on occasions some people get mad you can't read the comments of one person for one incident please be patient and going to the store they try their hardest and do their best read more

Went to Safeway in Estes Park and it was the worst experience I've had at a grocery store ever. Everything in the store was completely picked over which I can deal with but the person who checked us out was so disrespectful. Michael was not even at the checkout when we went over there so we asked for assistance. He came over and we bought beer and he was downright nasty to us. He proceeded to literally throw our groceries at us and couldn't even lend us the decency to say have a goodnight or something when we said it first to him. How rude do you have to be to work at Safeway? Needless to say we will not be shopping there again. read more

Nothing amazing about this location, but nothing overly fancy. The gas station is exceptionally cheap and you'll rack up gas rewards quickly, being that this is the only real grocery store in a major tourist town and the prices (being that they're Safeway's in the first place) somewhat reflect that. They're not astronomical, but neither are they fantastic. The service is good, though for some reason the "Just For U" deals I get "added" to my Safeway card account via their mobile app never seem to transmit correctly, so they always necessitate manual adjustments or refunds in order for me to get the promised deal. That's not really a detractor from the general service of this location, mind you; in fact, it stands in their favor that they're usually willing to get everything fixed as quickly as possible, but it reflects on the business as a whole and the one time that they wouldn't take care of it at the checkstand when I was there was a hassle. It may have only been thirty cents off the price of a can of olives that time, but customers large and small should be treated equally and I, like many other Estes residents, come through the store several times per week. Overall, I'll be back, but I don't really have many other options and if I did, I'd probably at least compare them. read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Estes Park, Colorado

I had a Safeway food stocker tell me off today because I walked 5 feet down an aisle the wrong way (they have those walk-this way signs on the floor. I walked that direction because there was no one that way and a person in the aisle that I would have to be within 6 feet of if I had gone the "right" way. Since Colorado state requirements to stay 6 feet away have greater authority than little stickers on a grocery floor, I went the way that keeps the state-required social distancing. The Safeway employee was really snappy with me, without looking at the circumstances. So to that employee--you really need to get a clue. read more

OMFG I would advise to avoid this place at all costs. Parking - nightmarish. Once inside - there were so many people I felt like it was Black Friday at Walmart when Furbies were popular. Pricing - confusing. They'll list the "membership" price as the obvious price, and the "non-membership" price in tiny font where you don't even notice it. Check-Out - Every line was at least 8 people deep, I waited in line for self-check out in hopes of getting out faster than humanly possible. The people behind me kept touching me and asking if I could go yet so they could hurry up and get out. I've only ever been that ass-to-elbow crammed at a concert. I spent $80 on two bags of groceries, because I wasn't a member and was so close to a break down that I didn't have the emotionally energy to see what I would take to save almost 50% (AKA what I thought I was going to spend). I barely made it to the car before having a complete panic attack, then had to fight my way out between people speeding through the lanes and large groups of people meandering at their leisure, mean-mugging all vehicles with an "I-Dare-You" look. There's not enough prozac in the world to make this place tolerable, and you couldn't afford it after buying your groceries there anyway. read more

We managed to go to this store only one time on our visit to Estes, and that was one too many. The store was packed to the gills with people clogging the aisles. The selection was picked over and very expensive for many items. We waited in line for a long time as one man signed up for a card while he checked out. Not cool. On the advice of friends who had been here we did get their store discount card at the customer service counter to help with the high prices. You definitely want to bring most groceries with you if coming to the area. read more
