Staff not trained, management is rude, and the price is not always the price. I tried to buy cherries marked at 2.99 lb. The staff couldn't figure out how to ring them up, so she called over another checkout person. He couldn't figure out either. So they called someone named "Sheila" over the intercom. When Sheila arrived, I needed to move to another register, where I was informed the 2.99 price requires me to download an app. also, it's only 2.99 for the first 3 lbs. I commented that when something is marked at a certain price, I usually expect it to be that price. Sheila must have thought I was being rude, because she responded to this by rudely saying that I need to read all the writing that is "around the price." I told her my point stands, and she said, "mine too." Overall, I left the place feeling like garbage. My advice is to go get your cherries somewhere else. And if you see Sheila, just walk away. read more

The deli here is useless. Sometimes they have stuff out. Sometimes not. Getting service there is spotty as well. Maybe you get someone. Maybe not. The food sometimes runs from great to tasting old, cold, and left out too long. Unfortunately in Dunkirk - the other grocery stores are hit or miss as well. read more

There was an old woman working closing shift that was very rude to me. I came in a little late to use the coin star and she started screaming at me that I needed to leave. She started clapping her hands in my face after I asked a few questions and talked down on me as if I was beneath her. As I walked out She told me f*** you. Yelp may have been listened to from what I saw. The previous reviewers complained about freshness, but what I saw recently was the opposite. Normally I shop at the Giant I. prince Frederick, but on the way home one day, I stopped by this Safeway. The Giant's vegetable section is always hit or miss. Most stuff is on the verge of being thrown out. Now this is from only one visit to this Safeway but WoW. The produce section was akin to a whole foods but without paying triple. This section must have been remodeled because it had the faux wood vinyl flooring. Usually at the Giant, you have to quickly eat the produce or vegetables or they will go bad. This store's produce and fruit stayed good until it was all consumed. Also I got a rewards card without any problems from a manager who was standing at the checkouts up front. Also Michelle W. Is right about the firehouse horn. It scared the crap out of me and my daughter one day. It is so loud it will make your ears bleed if you are closer to it at the Wawa. read more

It is sad that this store has gone so downhill. The store is a wreck, the people who work there hate their job, won't help and forget about getting anyone to help you at the deli counter. Nothing but crickets there. The new deli manager has anger issues and really shouldn't be working with the public. Must say Renee and her pharmacy team are the best I have worked with. Love them....they are truly a gift. Hope managements makes some changes with staff for the better. read more

Very very displeased with this product. I called yesterday to ask if they had an Over The Hill themed cake in their kits and they said they didn't I spelled the name of the persons name to go on the cake clearly and they even spelled it back to me. I go in and they spelled the name wrong, told me they didn't have any boxes and then they proceeded to SCRAPE the name that was spelled wrong off and rewrite it. I will NEVER get another cake from this institution again. Decorations were definitely NOT worth 40.99 and I'm assuming the cake will not taste like 40.99. Very very displeased. Store is well stocked butany times still on shelp after pull date Staff is not too knowledgeable and most can't be botheref to try to find answer to your question or just flippant. Never more than 2 or 3 lines open with employees standing around chatting Deli is the worst because there is usually one person to wait on 6 or 7 customers at a time. it Is amazing that they have added delivery during Covid! What is more amazing is that they confirm your order, charge you, mark your order delivered, and unapologetically DONT deliver your food. Save your self a headache and use Instacart, Giant, or Harris Teeter! This is a great little Safeway!!! I would not recommend going to the Starbucks, but the Safeway store itself is awesome! I usually go to the self check out and they have the coolest guys working there who are so helpful because those self check outs tend to have a little glitches sometimes They even sold fireworks for 4 July which I noticed were marked way lower in price then the people at the stand right outside of the store! The only problem which really is not a problem for me but for my son is that there is a firehouse pretty close and the alarms are pretty loud (my son has sensory issues) so I usually come by myself Like I said it's a great little Safeway I've never had any issues and everyone is friendly great store read more

Always enjoy going to Safeway until I had an awful experience with a young man who worked in Deli. He was rambling on about how these new PlayStation 5 SSD's are gonna be faster than any computer on the market. I was furious and THREW my Reuben at him and he ducked and started making Half Life Combine laughing noises at me. I demanded for his manager but was just called a Karen instead. This comment is about calling Corporate with a complaint. My complaint was about the manager Michelle and I was told my complaint goes right back to her!! Today, I was fed up with her berating employees in front of customers. She did it this time during the "roundup!" The person she berated was right in front of her and she screamed so loud you could hear her throughout the store!! She has done it on numerous occasions to various employees..another time it was Marla and Alex at Pharmacy. This behavior is so unprofessional!!! I am livid!! I go in there every day and know 95% of all employees. Although the majority of workers are very courteous to customers, they are very unhappy. I have talked to the DM about the manager but to no avail. What does it take????? read more

Starbucks in this store has really bad service I just met the new manager of Starbucks. She is very. Rude I ask for house blend she gave me pikes place then lied and said it was house blend. I work nearby so this Safeway is convenient but i will now drive further to not have to shop here. Let me tell you why. I used to get salads from there from their salad bar until I noticed gnats one day. I told the deli staff about them and they said they would take care of it. Being the OCD person that I am I stayed around to see if they did anything... NOTHING... They did nothing. Soups are always nasty with a film over the top and left there all day. The staff (all except for John in the deli) are rude and not helpful. I was looking for pizza crusts one day and was bounced to four different people before giving up. They just say "I don't know" and leave you. Even the management team is horrible. I tried to purchase an item that was marked down on clearance from the floral section and even though the price tag marked clearance and had the description on it he said (after ten minutes of waiting) that it "excluded that piece" I get that sometimes sales do but this time he just couldn't figure out why it wasn't ringing up properly and didn't want to bother finding out. The nail in the Safeway coffin and the reason i am writing this review is that I (against my better judgement) bought pork here yesterday for a big cookout today and just opened not one, but three packs that were all rotton. Fifty dollars down the drain. stay away!!! read more

I'm new to Huntingtown -- moved in about a month ago. I work in DC, commute along Rte 4, and needed to choose a grocery store along the route home. Pretty easy -- either Giant or Safeway. At my old Montgomery County apartment, Giant was always the go-to store. I've been going to Giant for years and years. But I wanted to try Safeway instead, (1) just to try a new grocery and (2) because it's on the right-hand side of the street going home. Easier in & out than Giant's parking lot. So I went into Safeway a few weeks ago and went right to their customer service desk, to ask about a frequent shopper card. Two young employees came and went but couldn't help me -- they had no idea how to set me up with a shopper card. Bad news #1. The manager then came along and spent 5 minutes -- no joking -- looking for a frequent shopper card application. She and a young man looked everywhere -- back office, drawers, under piles of junk -- with no luck. So she gave me a generic shoppers card and told me I'd have to come back another day, since it was only a temporary card. Seriously? They can't even issue me a Safeway card. Bad news #2. I took the temporary card and went about my shopping. I only needed to buy a few things anyway. First stop was the produce department. I needed only ONE ITEM there -- chives. I found the shelves where they stocked chives and other herbs and was pretty damn shocked. At first I thought, "is that a new exotic type of chives? Why aren't they green?" I looked closer and they were yellow and brown and rotting. Beneath that package were 3 other containers of chives, all in similar rotting stages. These things must have sat there for many days to get to such a condition and not one employee could remove them from the shelves? Bad news #3 3 strikes and this Safeway is OUT. These may be petty complaints but that's all it takes for this shopper. Sorry store, but this experience made me a permanent Giant shopper. read more

I use to shop here all the time. I have recently quit going due to the fact that the produce isle are not being stocked. It is impossible to find anything on a Monday morning(when I do my shopping) When you are able to find something the life span once you get it home is greatly reduced. Items I get all the time are no longer being carried. There is no one working in the bakery. I was told by an employee that the store had made a bunch of cuts by scaling back hours and cutting products. I now drive 10 minutes further for me to go to Fresh Market. I love the produce and the organic selection. My produce also lasts longer that a day or two. And the bakery is wonderful. The prices are just as competetive as Safeway's, too!! read more

I'm really surprised at all the negative comments about this Safeway. I was always a Giant shopper, but one day went into Safeway with a friend. From that day forward I never went anywhere else. The produce and meat is so much better then Giant! My only complaint is the self checkout, the machines are very sensitive and always seem to glitch. I absolutely love Renee, the pharmacy manager. She and her staff are the most wonderful people! They always have a big smile on their faces and are so helpful. read more

They have a good amount of produce stocked. They barely have any tills open or cashiers working. The lines are kinda long. I've seen a lot of times cashiers just standing around not doing anything when they could be at an empty till. read more

My wife went into this store today and the cashier was extremely rude to my wife. They have confusing sale signs in the store and they talked to my wife like she was stupid. We will never shop at this Safeway ever again. read more

This is a pretty good store. They're not so hot on baked breads, but otherwise it's ok. They have a gas station with pretty cheap prices.

Visited the seafood department and the lady working there was so rude never said hello and had an attitude when I asked to have my seafood streamed she said I should've said something earlier and rolled her eyes. Will never visit this Safeway again read more
