La Plata Farmers Market is a cute, small farmers market with a lot of neat items to purchase…read more I decided to pop in for my first visit recently and enjoyed it. While the market is on the small side, they maximize space and have quite a few vendors and plenty of parking. Despite being able to conduct a rather brisk walkthrough of the market, I was also able to pick up several items along the way before I headed to another market. Overall, if you're in the area this market is worth a visit. It's also worth considering if you're not in the area but keeping in mind that it's small would be prudent.

Came here in early May on the recommendation of some friends who live in the area. Since we were…read morevisiting La Plata, we figured we'd see what the locals recommend. Pretty respectable-sized establishment! There were a lot of vendors selling things that were not food/produce. I think I saw more people selling soaps, creams, and body butter than any other product. Great selection to choose from if that's what you're looking for. I ended up having a nice chat with one of the guys who had a nice variety of soaps both scented and unscented. Several vendors were selling potted plants. I imagine the produce stands are more represented in the peak of summer and fall. There were a few when we went (early May) selling some cabbages and other leafy greens as well as some apples and root veggies. At the one end of the parking lot were several trucks hawking food and drinks. I had been told to look for a donut truck, but none to be found the day we went. There was one selling coffees, another selling cold-pressed juices, and another selling pizzas. Bonus: there is a port-a-potty available to all. I've been to bigger markets without one and I think it's brilliant that one is available.

Down near the Annapolis harbor you can take in the visuals of the boats that are docked or sailing, people watching, the multitude of restaurants or shops. Or you can stop by this quaint little farmer's market just before you do all the the other things. Although small, this farmer's market has a small town appeal with just a few vendors, but I found them attentive, personable and and plain old nice. We ran down this morning for the inaugural launch and they did not disappoint. Criteria for vendors at a Freshfarm Market include, that you must be located within the Chesapeake bay region and you may only sell what you have either grown or made yourself. With that said, there is a definite slant towards sustainable and organic product of high quality. Today's offerings included: Quail Creek Bakery, Cherry Glen Goat Cheese Co, Flower vendors, Springfield Lamb, Local produce featuring early tomatoes, mini cucumbers, herbs, sweet cherries, asparagus, strawberries and much more. We also scooped up a delicious homemade gazpacho and mushroom empanadas for later. Local favorite, Chef Jim Wilder of the Wild Orchid Cafe was on hand for food demonstrations. We watched as he prowled the market for his ingredients but were unable to stay. There is plenty of room for expansion and we have hopes that as the season progresses, even more vendors will join in. The market is open Sundays only, June 1 - October 5. 8AM - 12PM. If you live in the area and you are serious about food, then PLEASE don't miss this opportunity for yourself and for Anne Arundel County. www.hardypartyreview.blogspot.com

Either time the farm has a friendly team who will go out of their way to greet you and help. It has consistently been a great experience and there's always treasures to purchase.
