Monopoly game is a worthless waste of time. During the last 8 weeks, the INSTANT WIN product has been wiped out on the shelves. No Aspirin, No Tomato Sauce, etc. Week after Week. 20 of these INSTANT WINS, and they expire today. Safeway needs to be held accountable for the Product they have not shipped to the stores in a timely manner or offer Rainchecks for the product once it finally ships in. The staff here sucks! The cashier was stupid... she kept ringing up my coffee like 4 times..then when I told her... she had the nerve to say it would be taken off at the end. It wasn't ! I was charged $26 dollars for it! After I checked out & looked at the receipt - I went back to her to correct & she said she was busy..but would call out the Customer Service clerk... I went into the Corte Madera Safeway Deli section and orders two sandwiches. The food in the deli was OLD and they did not have fresh food. The lettuce was old and wilted and they didn't change or replace the lettuce they were serving it to customers. The tomatoes were old as well and the sandwich was POORLY made. I ordered a sandwich that had bacon on it and they had cut one piece of bacon in half and gave me one piece of bacon and said it equaled two pieces and it didn't that's not how it work. One piece of bacon is one piece of bacon you don't cut it in half! The deli in this store is giving customers less of what is advertised and making cheap sandwiches water while charging regular prices. I paid almost 20 dollars for two sandwiches that had wilted old lettuce and old tomatoes and half the amount of bacon. I was very disappointed and not satisfied. Won't be returning to their deli department. read more

Go to this Safeway after 6:30 pm, you'll see why everyone goes to Mollie Stone's. One, amazingly slow, person to wait on 6 people waiting at the deli. One -- ONE -- checkstand open, as six full carts wait in line. Other employees walking around, watching, slowly -- but not helping. Many people prefer Safeway because the prices are lower. But if you want service, or speed -- as well as far better quality -- head to Mollie Stone's. read more

I just must compliment the staff at this Safeway - it doesn't matter what hour I am in there (5:15am after the gym, 11:30am Sunday morning, 6:45pm Monday night), the people I have interacted with have been unfailingly kind and helpful. This evening, the assistant manager, James, was filling many different needs, including working as the "deli guy" to give his employee the time to take his lunch break. James cleared a queue of customers waiting in a zip and gave each of us his full attention and 1000-watt smile. Even when it is super crowded with check-out lines down the aisles, as it can get, all of the people who work there are just nice. Inventory issues, limited meat choices, always a long line (used to be TJ's specialty but this Safeway is worse), never anyone around to ask questions. Exception: produce. I called in advance to verify that Western Union service operational at Corte Madera store, they said yes. I arrived at the store and they told me that web side is down. I went to another location and web site was fine. Not only they didn't apologies for wasting my time, they also had this attitude " don't bother us with your nonsense", their sandwich area didn't have utensils and I had to wait while two employees finished their discussion and attended to my request. read more

The DELI department... TERRIBLE!!!!!! Almost 15 minutes for a sandwich?! Really?! I lost track of how many times I have wanted to jump behind the counter and make my sandwich my damn self!!! Why must they move at snails pace and Uggh.. why must their sandwiches be so good?! *vent session over* This store is always clean so that's a plus. But I usually come here just to grab something to eat real "quick" while on my lunch break. I usually go straight to the deli counter and either grab a sandwich or some mac and cheese or something. It's a nice Safeway in terms of size and selection. The main challenge is parking. It's in a busy mall so it can be hard to find parking.

I have to agree with the majority of comments on here... this Safeway is really, really poorly managed. There is never anyone at the customer service, never a manager available, and the deli is the worst! Always 3-4 people working there who studiously avoid any eye contact so they won't have to acknowledge your existence. Someone mentioned a bell at the counter? I've never seen it, I guess they took it away as that would make them have to acknowledge you. Get a bell and also a ticket system so everyone knows who's next! Train your people in customer service, such as "I'll be right with you!". Also the stocking is terrible.., some things are continuously out while others are over stocked. Safeway, when things constantly sell out, that means you need to order more of it! read more

Starbucks in this Safeway, I can't even. I've never had such an incredibly uncomfortable, downright RUDE customer service experience. The girl ahead of me didn't have 10 cents to pay for her transaction. Here, take 10 cents, I don't care- I just need some caffeine. The girl ahead of me and the barista proceed to get in to an argument, and the barista decides not to make any drinks for the next 10 minutes? I've been a waitress for 12 years, so I understand dealing with terrible customers is challenging, but you can't yell at your customers. Make the drinks and take a walk, or don't make drinks and have someone cover you. I'm not really sure, but what happened was comical, uncomfortable and terrible all at one time. I'd go to a regular starbucks if you need your caffeine fix, this isn't the spot to accommodate that need. read more

This is seriously one of the best Safeways out there. It's like an uber Safeway mixed in with Andronico's. Maybe I'm going during off hours, but parking always seems effortless and the lines aren't usually terrible for check out. My favorite is definitely the huge selection whether it's cheese, teas or even gravy powder. read more

This is a horrible Safeway store. I have thrown out countless items - moldy berries, rotten melons, out-of-date seafood, rancid chicken ... Checkout staff stand idly by as you bag your own groceries; shelves are often left bare. Save yourself the bother and go to Trader Joe's where everything's edible and and the staff don't look like they'd rather gouge out their own eyeballs than do their job. read more

Well I stopped by during my lunch break to get a sandwich for lunch and it took me about 15 minutes to get my sandwich. I only have 30 minutes and that only left me 15 minutes to eat and drive back to work. They had about 5 people working so they were well staffed but the workers were slow as molasses! There really wasn't a sense of urgency to hurry up even though there was a line about 10 people deep including a police officer who probably had better things to do instead of standing in line waiting to order their food. Other Safeway's are not like this so this one gets 1 star from me. Oh and by the way if they really honored their "if you don't get it in three minutes it's free" sign then everyone there would have been receiving free sandwiches! For Safeway, it's a decent store. The selection is reasonably good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Certainly one of the better choices for good prices compared to some of the other nearby choices. Lines are very long in the early evening and on Sunday afternoons (what's up with that????). It's usually very easy to park. Exciting? no. A safe bet for basic groceries? YES. read more

I love having a Safeway by my house. I hate that it's this one. This store is schitzo - it's trying to do too many things in a relatively small space and failing at all of them. It's got a Starbucks, a deli, a butcher area, large wine section, lottery machines, coin star, DVD rentals and the list goes on... the result is that the store is difficult to navigate and often runs out of brand name inventory Recommend taking a page from the other stores in the vicinity and *simplify*. Ditch the Starbucks, focus on mid-tier merchandise (stay away from the ultra-high-end and the off-brand) and get rid of the vending machines. See Marina Safeway for a great example. read more

The selection of items here is not great. The store is an older one and hasn't kept up with the times. The lines at the register are often long and block access to the food aisles at the front of the store. They appear to have a lax policy regarding animals in the store. I saw a young guy walking in the produce department with his dog and he tried to tell me it was a service dog. I think it's the responsibility of the store to enforce the restriction against having dogs in food stores. Clearly this store doesn't do much about it. read more

As a prelude, I usually shop at the Safeway in Strawberry Village which is marginally better. I called this store today (Tuesday) at 4pm. I pressed 8 to speak with a customer service representative. It rang and rang and rang then diverted me back to the menu. I pushed 8 again, waited and waited. Finally, on the 3rd time around I finally got through to a person. When I started with my simple question about balloons (do you carry helium balloons?) she interrupted me mid sentence, snapped in my ear, and essentially hung up on me to transfer me to the floral department. Luckily the person there was nice enough, if a little slow. But seriously, a customer service employee acting like that? Sounds like they need to do some more staff training. It shouldn't take 15 minutes and a negative experience to order 4 helium balloons. read more

I watied 10 minutes at the meat counter - rang the bell three times - no one ever came. No sign saying the meat counter was closed =no hours posted. When I told the girl at the check out she said "Sorry". I responded that she should have said - let me get you some help or I'll call the manager for you - what a dummy! She did call the manager Ronnie whose solution was to offer to get me something on the house. I responded that I was happy to pay but could afford no more time to this shopping task. They don't seem to understand "time and service". I will not return to this store - I'll gladly pay more at the upscale grocery stores to get some service. I work 10 hour days and just don't have the time to waste on these understaffed, poorly stocked stores - I'm tired of pointing out their problems. Staff your stores please. read more

This sounds really mean, but the name of this store should be changed to "Jobs for Charity Cases." The reviewer who said this location is the DMV of supermarkets is right. As I was shopping there were people at the meat counter shouting "Hello" because nobody could be bothered to come out and serve the customers. My cashier couldn't even do the simplest stuff right. The lady in front of me had several large items but apparently leaving them in the cart and scanning them was too challenging. She had to take them out of the cart, look forever for the UPCs, and scan them. Therefore, the transaction took way longer than it should have. And she was rude to everyone in line as well. Although the cashier I had last week was pretty friendly. This week I chose the shorter line and as I was checking out I noticed the lane with the longer line was the nicer lady from last week. I've been shopping here for years because I'm close by. But I've finally had enough and am willing to go elsewhere. MILK! They consistently run out of milk one of the most staple items of any grocery store. Once or twice OK but every Monday? Or Tuesday if it s following a three day weekend. Bakery items perish quicker than it seems they should. A loaf of bread is moldy within a week. Then there is the parking lot. They made all the spaces smaller a few years back just as society craved bigger cars. The result is no one can fit and doors get dinged. I'm movin' on. read more

I should wait until I am not angry but I can't. There is something wrong with this store. The employees are like zombies. They are unfriendly and avoid you. The bakery seems so disorganized. They look at each other wondering where the cake boxes are! Why would the cake boxes and bread bags not be in the bakery? The fish department is small and it smells. The cashiers seem angry. The whole store seems dusty and disorganized. The deli looks trashed. The overall style inside this Safeway is not consistent with the neighborhood. We enjoy shopping around here and we go to stores that we enjoy shopping AT! read more

I shop regularly at this Safeway because it's on US 101, on my way north to a home in Humboldt County. Since I hit the road early, I'm usually there around 8:15 and ready to check out a pretty large order about 9:15. Invariably, there will be ONE checkstand open, with at least three or four (sometimes five or more) loaded carts already in line. I ask the poor, harassed checker to call another one, please. She gives me a hopeless look, clicks on her mic and requests another checker. Usually nothing happens, though every five minutes or so some twit chirps over the speaker system that "there's no waiting at self-check." (Not true; there's almost always as line there, too.) I realize Safeway is trying its damnedest to force people not only to unload and bag their own groceries but to do their own checking, too, so the store can lay off more employees. Guess what, guys: there's an extremely nice Mollie Stone's just down the road. I wince at some of Mollie's prices, but I sure like the quality and the customer service. And I'm rapidly approaching the point where Safeway's aggravation factor is gonna outweigh its price edge. read more

Oh My Gawd... Becky. I had 3 items to check out at 6 PM. Two of the self-check stands were out of commission. Half of the other stands were closed. The clerk at my stand ("Senior Clerk" ) was very, very slow in bagging. The conveyor belt broke, leading to a several-minute delay. This has to be the most incompetant grocery store I have ever visited. read more

They sold Safeway " down the river" Despite that, this location continues to try to bring us good food etc .Yet, their soup is foul and not to be tested.Gross. Most of us can't afford Whole Foods or Woodlands. This spot is for you, the middle class ( hahha) of Marin if one can say that.
