Clean Safeway. Organized departments and easy to find products. As for the deli, all of the warm foods are great. Although I'm not impressed with ability of the sandwich makers. I ordered the pesto Turkey sandwich and received it on a burnt roll :/ This Safeway location still gets four stars for me. Just because of one for sandwich on one visit I will not hold that against the entire store. Augustine tire deli department. The staff at the store is very helpful and knows where things are located in the store. I will shop at the Safeway again. I've noticed there is a better selection of organic and natural foods/products here as well. Had an interview down the street and was super hungry. I just happened to see this Safeway and thought. Yum a breakfast sandwich would really hit the spot right now. When I approached the counter, there were three ladies having a full blown conversation in Spanish. Two deli workers and one customer. I patiently waited 5 minutes while they finished talking. Finally one of the women asked me what I want. I began ordering, but before I could even finish asking this woman the type of sandwich I would like to be made, she quickly interrupted me to say that they didn't have sausage and that I need to pick something else. Named Vincent is so rude! I have just for you club card more than 10 year and this guy saying my number doesn't work. I moved to another cashier after arguing with him. He doesn't want to go an extra mile service. The lady at the customer service is nice enough to help. Good rating for the gluten-free section. It's better than Whole Foods. This Safeway has better products and better brands of gluten-free than Whole Foods. MUCH better cookies for sure. They have a good organic section too. I've only been a couple of times but it seems true what the other reviews say about the lines. I didn't know it was consistent. Still, so far I like this store. I haven't needed customer service yet though. We'll see what I say after that happens. Love the gluten-free section though. I'll be back soon for that. read more

I've been to this location a handful of times and had noticed that the lack of cashiers was a problem. Well today sealed the deal on never ever shopping at this Safeway again. Yet again lack of cashiers and then a patron accused me of cutting in line. Meanwhile the cashier kept saying over and over "when is my break coming, when is my break coming and will the person actually come." Right now, I would give this no stars if I could. Yes, it went under a great renovation. My question to them is, if you go to such great pains to make this better, why is the deli person ignorant and unknowledgeable? Last night I went there, craving melon and proscuitto. Went to the young man and asked to have it thinly sliced, and 4 ounces, since it is 13.00 a pound and it goes a long away. He was slicing and slicing. Weighs it first, over 3/4 pound, then shows it to me, and it is as thick as fat ham slices! no no no. He tries again, this time a bit better, but weighs over a pound of it! Come on already! So he weighs out 4 ounces, balls it up, I am not kidding you, and hands me a plastic bag with this baseball size amount of it. Fed up, I went to the store manager. He was apologetic. I mean come on people! Hire staff that know what they are doing! I don't know what he did with the $25.00 of wasted meat, and don't care. This store has not improved. In some ways, it has declined since my first review. Compared to the Safeway located in the Strawberry Shopping Center, this store is almost depressing. As always, their inventory and shelf organization is below par. How can you be out of sour dough baguettes at 5:15 PM day after day? The produce section is always picked over by 5:00 PM. I HATE going into Safeway. I'll do anything to avoid it. For example, if there is ANY chance that Rite-Aid will have it, I'll just pay whatever premium they charge to not have to go into the huge and somehow still crowded-in-all-the-wrong-places store. I give it a two star instead of a one because despite being annoying to get in and out of, and despite REALLY slow delivery on deli items, the food is decent and the prices are cheap. For example, a couple of days ago my friends and I were on our way to a long hike and wanted to get some meat to grill at the beach later on. We didn't have time for a proper breakfast so we stopped at the deli. They have $2.99 breakfast burritos and English muffin sandwiches. The breakfast burritos were HUGE! I think part of the "issue" is that the deli doesn't keep all of the materials handy. For example, I ordered a whole wheat English muffin (it was on the menu) and the lady helping me had to go to the store and grab a bag. I haven't had any issues with unfriendliness. I tend to be a pretty friendly person to begin with, and I believe that usually when you put your friendliness out there, people like to reciprocate it. Regarding the rest of the supermarket - I try to buy as little as possible here anyway. I think the produce is really overpriced. One time I went to Safeway and Whole Foods on the same day, within a couple hours of each other so the prices were still really fresh in my mind. Strawberries at Whole Foods were about $2 cheaper. I came here a couple of times when I was dog- and house-sitting in Larkspur. The store is clean and pretty well stocked, especially the produce section. Both times I came, though, there weren't enough checkout lines open, and the workers seemed especially slow. I was really surprised that they didn't have a lot of the organic and meatless items I regularly find at most Safeways in San Francisco. The sign in the sandwich department says if the sandwich isn't made in 3 minutes it's free. It took them 15 minutes to make my sandwich, and they didn't honor their policy. I didn't really care that it took 15 minutes (although for a sandwich, that's ridiculously long), what I hated was when I asked a simple question I got a judging stare and lashed at by the woman behind the counter. The store looks nice, and the staff is relatively friendly. However, they do a shockingly bad job at managing their inventory -- I'm constantly running into out-of-stock items. My last three trips here have been exercises in frustration, with about 20% of the things I'm looking for being out-of-stock. It's a bad sign with you start your trip and 3 of the first 4 items on your list are unavailable (and to be clear, these aren't obscure items they don't carry - these are items they carry, but apparently not very well). On the plus side, I always wondered what it was like living in the eastern bloc countries back in the day when there were shortages of many staple items. Now I'm lucky enough to be getting a chance to live it on a weekly basis thanks to Safeway's bad management. (And I thought the History Channel was where "History Comes Alive"...) We come here occasionally when it's convenient and every time we do I swear we're not coming back. One thing that bugs me is how they man two check out lanes when they have so many more vacant. If you want to use the self-service check out lanes, there's a line and you have to wait for people who don't really know how to do it themselves. Then, when you have THEM check you, they fiddle about clearly waiting on you to bag your own groceries. It's almost like a blinking contest to see who bags the groceries. For lack of a better way to identify this particular cashier, I'm gonna call him the big black guy. He has some name that starts with a "K" or something and it's some kind of african themed name. Anyway, he seems to really like the ladies. I've been in his queue a couple of times when there were women ahead of me and he'll do this thing where he looks at their receipt for a long time and gazes into their eyes, completely ignoring the line of customers waiting to pay for their groceries. He'll say something cute and flirty and, to me, it looks like the woman is kinda uncomfortable before she can get her receipt and escape. Yesterday, I was in his line and he was looking my wife up and down. I cleared my throat to try to avoid a scene and he stopped staring at her chest. Then when I've paid, he turns his back to me and passes my receipt to me over his right shoulder. Unbelievable and incredibly rude. This store is rather atypical for what Safeway has become. None of the other local Safeway stores are much better. However, I haven't caught any of their employees "eyeball raping" my wife. I WILL commend their floral department. THOSE employees have gone out of their way on several occasions to help me when I'm trying to buy fresh lilies by going in the back to get them. We'll continue to avoid this store when we can and we'll definitely stay out of "Playa's" check out line. To the manager: Get control of your staff! read more

Hey, it's a grocery store. It's close to my house. Fairly helpful, friendly staff. The bad- they're always out of at least one thing on my list, and it's never some esoteric thing, like foie gras or blackberry soda. Last week it was bananas. And they must have been out for awhile, because even the mostly brown mooshy ones and the organic ones were sold out. I have to be suspicious of a place that runs out of bananas, and still calls itself a grocery store. However they're close, and until Trader Joe's moves into its Larkspur location, I'll be there bi-weekly. And there better freaking be bananas next time! read more

The place is generally ok and they have a decent wine selection, but I have bought food here gotten home and then noticed the food is expired... by more than week... for realsies?! Also when I first came here my phone number associated w/ my safeway card had not been added to the system. So i kept missing out on my safeway discounts. but if you keep the receipts you can bring back your safeway card and get the money off on future purchases. And so after a couple months i had over $60 worth of discounts. and when i went to claim them, a rather bitchy manager attempted to refute my claim stating they were expired, when there is no expiration date or mention of this in their policy . had to go through customer service to get my money. -_- that being said, its a grocery store... nothing special. it is hard to find people walking around if you need help finding something. read more

Three years later and as bad if not worse than it was. I now will go to any supermarket other than here and it is within a mile. Staff are so rude. It us painful even to use self checkout. You would think either the store manager or corporate would take a look at these reviews and try to change things. This is a mess of a store; I have long since given up on buying any fresh produce (milk out-dated, bread stale/moldy) and only pop in for one/two things at a time and generally when the place is empty. The checkout lanes always seem to be backed up wouldn't hurt to open more lanes when they are busy. The staff when I have talked to them is truly surly. The only thing this store has going for it is location. Safeway seems to be where Lucky and Albertsons were and we can hope they either change or die and we get a Molly Stones or even Whole Foods or dream or a Trader Joes. Parking - they just re-lined and I know most of the blame goes to the mall, but can you 1. create larger spots so folks don't double up just to get their cars parked. 2. Remap the mall parking so there are actual spots close to the stores read more

Needed to replenish the coffee creamer supply at the office, so I stopped by here this morning. Went to the refrigerated display case in the back and was pleasantly surprised to see my brand was advertising an "overstock" sale price ($1.40 off per bottle - nearly 50% off). Proceeded to the self-checkout, scanned the items and punched in my club card. Was bummed to see that the computer was not acknowledging the sale. James, who was overseeing the self-checkout section, came to help me out. After leaving for just a few minutes to double check the sale price, he came back and corrected the error. My wife has always liked the customer service at most Safeways in general and this was no exception in my opinion. Thanks again James for the assistance! Okay this review is based off of the two times I have been here and since I am moving in to the area I am sure I will be forced to come here again for lifes emergencies though I am going to really try not to. I dont know what it is with Safeway and leaking freezers that are a hazard to customers ( See my review for the san rafael safeway) The first time I came here the aisles were clean and well stocked. Found my items,did self check out and left. The second time the store looked like it had been hit by the san rafael zombies. it had been raining outside and apparently no one was delgated to mop the floors. The floors were wet and muddy. There was also a freezder leaking in another part of the store. There was also a large mess where some person broke a wine bottle. There as a 'wet floor ' sign there though amongst the shards of glass. When we came back though it looked like someone picked up the broken glass and ran the mop over the area once. The floor was still purple. There was a long lines everywhere and people clogging up the aisles everywhere. I got some of my items and just got out of dodge as qucik as I could. read more

Customer service is nonexistent if you call on the phone. No one picks up. They should call it "Customer Disservice". Instead of wasting my time trying to get someone to pick up, I'd rather they not even have a phone number to call. It's a joke. I called at 8:00 pm and was on for 20 minutes trying each department before it rolls over to default "Customer Service" not to answer. I visited this store on New Year's Eve to buy myself a 6 pack of beer. I'm 27 years old and presented my California state Id at time of purchase. The first cashier denied me. I didn't know this could happen at this time in my life. She refused to share why and kept telling me she has the choice to sell it to me. After that I proceed to check out in the adjacent line. Before my new cashier "approved" my purchase she needed to know why the first one denied me. I almost got denied a second time but I think she realized there was no reason not to sell to me. Avoid this Safeway. The women was on a power trip and it sounds like they are trying to become a dry grocery store by judging people who stop in for only beer.
