Ugh, I hate grocery stores. Seriously. Grocery stores are the worst. And this Safeway location doesn't do anything to combat that stereotype. Look, grocery stores are poorly laid out, this Safeway is poorly laid out. The parking lot is a shared parking lot, it's not good. But the biggest reason that this location (and all other Safeways) gets a poor review is how expensive it is. There are so many other less expensive options for groceries within a 5-minute drive of this location. Other than strict convenience, why would anybody go to this grocery store? It's so expensive! The only thing that saves this from being a one-star review is that everybody who works here seems to be super friendly and helpful. read more

I popped into this Safeway over the weekend for a few essentials for Sundays marathon since I'd just flown into town. Smartwater, Advil, Cheez Its and a Cola. My recipe to 26.2. Service was exceptional! As I was glancing around at which aisles to find my items and fine to wander the sweetest gentleman asked if he could help me, I rattled this list off and he wrote down every single aisle I'd find the item on. I have shopped here fairly regularly for about 4 years. It's small, but clean, usually not too busy, convenient for me and easy parking (except Sunday church mornings (but no big deal)Sadly, the thing that stands out to me most is I have yet to interact with a single friendly employee. It's odd to me, usually at least a few employees are friendly . I used the Safeway Appand ordered groceries for pickup. After pickup I went home to unpack groceries and just look at the celery they chose for me.... Did they get it out of the trash? I have had the best results with order and pick up from Albertsons and Smith's but I won't use Safeway again. I tossed the limp, moldy celery! read more

Please avoid this Safeway if possible! We were visiting Coeur D'Alene and shopped here. We got coconut water for our toddler. On our way back, I tasted the water and felt it tasted weird. On checking the expiry date, it was 6 months past it's expiry date How can someone be so careless? It's a shame that this store is still open! We are just glad we did not give the coconut water to our toddler. We went to the Safeway in Spokane Valley and reported this issue so that no else is affected. The manager replaced our bottle with another one. He also offered to give us a gift card which we refused. read more

The store met all expectations of a SafeWay. However our attendant blatantly told the woman in front of us to go to another store, and chastised her for being "from the resort." To us he complained about all of the tourists. We too were tourists and were shocked and offended by his remarks. What should have been perfectly nice family trip to the grocery store became a dramatic ordeal leaving us shocked and offended. read more

I'm surprised no one has reviewed this Safeway yet. I personally think the renovation was an absolute success, matched that with amazing friendly people then you got one heck of grocery store. I always like coming in here when I'm in CDA, clean aisles with well stocked shelves, product availability is great and check-out is always a breeze, the parking lot is also good, well marked compared to before. Next to the Holistic grocery a few blocks away (*wink) I highly recommend this friendly neighborhood grocery store. read more

Kinda small considering I'm from a larger city and used to larger stores, but very happy with the selection of everything. Store is close by to where I am staying so very convenient. We stopped for lunch while cruising along the lake shore..Great location, about an hour's boat ride from Blackwell Island. All four in Our party loved the food. I personally had the fish and chips which was very good. Loved sitting on the patio. The inside was nice bar/cafe like atmosphere. Very casual and comfortable. If you are looking for some basic ingredients or something quick this place may be what you need. I avoid the produce section like the plague as it is rarely fresh or well rotated. Prices tend to be higher than most of the other grocery stores in town but as with other stores with locations like this you are often paying more for the convenience. Went in with my husband to buy wine. I had a GOVERNMENT issued replacement paper ID, as I had lost my wallet and my license with it. My husband had his regular ID showing we are both 28. The store manager Debbie would not approve our purchase because "my photo wasn't on the replacement ID" ; even though I also had a credit card with my full name, and a photo of myself. Worst customer service ever and she was also very rude. read more

The nation is still in the middle of a pandemic. I visited the store on 4th street, in Coeur d Alene, early on Friday morning (7:00am) and most store associates were not wearing protective masks, as recommended by the CDC. Also, there were other patrons in the store without masks. The only people wearing a mask was myself, the cashier, and a person retrieving shopping carts from the lot. I have been a loyal customer of this store for over 20 years. But, I no longer feel safe shopping there. So, I will continue to use the pharmacy on a very limited basis, but will start shopping at a different store for my groceries. Note: both Fred Meyer's and Costco, in Coeur d'Alene require all associates to wear protective masks. Costco takes it a step further requiring customers to wear masks as well. Just close this store. Honestly- what a waste of a Safeway. Selection of anything is horrible. I have to agree with other Yelpers when they say the employees are not friendly. That is an understatement, quite honestly. And for real- what grocery store doesn't have dry ice ?! Not only do they not have it, the cashier was super annoyed I even asked. She interrupted halfway thru my question to tell me they don't carry dry ice. Whatever . Lesson learned . This store sucks. read more

Except for the pharmacy, the customer service everywhere else at this particularly Safeway is AWFUL. I think management needs to do some retraining in that area. People are rude & if you ask for help, they act like it too much of a problem for them. Sad because it didn't used to be this way. read more

Clean well stocked grocery store. We stopped in here while on vacation in CDA and found it to be a great little store. It had everything we needed. Fast friendly checkout. It's small so it may not have everything but it has a good variety of the essentials. read more

Just got my first Instacart order delivered. Received almost everything I ordered. However.....my delivery drivers where not wearing gloves. Go to the NEIDER location! Most of the employees here seem to hate their jobs and dealing with people. What's worse is the the literal worst one- an old lady with a terrible attitude and lack of friendly customer service is the front end manager! She's so awful! My guess is she's the only one to stick it out there long enough and knows the ropes so they gave her manager. She's not personable or approachable at all. She seems in a perpetual state of hating being there and I don't like that she's almost always my cashier. As for product, they're limited. There's barely a variety. There's no bakery. I was looking around and noticed the sandwich board at the deli. Just looking at the options, was approached by an unfriendly employee who said, "We're closed." No, "Hi, are you finding everything okay?" Just assuming I wanted to by something during closing. If I was a secret shopper, this place would fail every time. There have been a couple of good experiences like when a guy there noticed me looking around and immediately TOLD AND WALKED me to where the item was across the store. This must be a horrible place to work. I know it's a horrible place to shop at. I frequent this store often. It's the only grocery store downtown, and I work in a restaurant downtown and need to pick up stuff on the fly. This Safeway is constantly out of the things I'm looking for- fresh basil, romaine lettuce, parsley, veggie stock soup base, and other items too, . But the employees are the worst part. I've probably been helped by 15 different employees in different departments. There's literally one younger girl with big hair that works the check stands and one awesome dude in the deli that seem to not hate EVERYTHING in the world, their job, rainbows and kittens etc. Maybe it's bc I've been trained by the rest of the checkers to expect a sour look on their face, to not expect a greeting or thank you, or even an acknowledgment I'm alive by eye contact that those two employees seem to be going above and beyond in their customer service- but they are stand outs. Here's tonight's saga. After 14 hours working in a hot kitchen, I pulled into the parking lot at 10:45 and was eyeballed by a bagger? while he smoked a cigarette by the entrance. I hate cigarettes. As I walk in thru his cloud of smoke, I get a "just so you know, we close in 10 mins" in a petulant teenager tone of voice. Me- Ok, but you're not closed now right? Him- "Yeh". I grabbed the couple of things I needed, saw the floor polishing dude who's always cool and funny and hit the check out. The checker had a bit more personality and I got a "hey" in between her conversation with the bagger? I was in and out, after waiting on the bagger to let me out of the already turned off doors and in my car driving away by 10:55. I don't know man, my first job was as a cashier. Everyone got a hello, eye contact and a have a nice day at the end and no one knew I hated my job or was having a bad day. Sorry for sounding so "I'm my day..." but it in my day customer service was something else. read more
