This location is like stepping waaaaaaay back in time. I keep waiting to bump into my car keys, the battery cover for the remote, and my virginity when I stop in here. I really feel for the local residents, as this is a pretty dilapidated store and there aren't a lot of options for grocery shopping in the area without driving to Longview, WA. The store is very small, and dated. Produce didn't seem very fresh as a whole. Very tired looking shelves. Safeway is not losing money at any stretch of the imagination with the inflated prices they charge (especially here on the Oregon Coast). One would think they could do some basic renovations to this location and stimulate the local economy a wee bit.
Selection is very limited and shelf / bin freshness is beyond sad. I understand from a corporate perspective, it could be argued that they are caught between a rock and a hard place with the economy and demographic data, but Safeway chose this community to build in and should honour its commitment to the people. Employees were surprisingly upbeat and helpful. Much better attitudes than at the Astoria location as a whole. I can count on one hand the "dedicated employees" between Astoria and Seaside... the rest are just going through the motions and it shows. I either caught the staff here on an exceptionally happy day, or they are just happy to be employed and actually give a damn.
So if in the area, try to give this location some business and fill out a customer card demanding better stock and an upgrade. Be sure to reward good customer service by saying so to them, their manager, and corporate as well. We are in the middle of a sad state of customer service where customers are letting these bad manners and attitudes slide. Speak with your voices, as well as your money Yelpers!!! read more
