This Safeway, in our few visits is not unlike any other. A grocery store at its core, with foods, condiments and deli items galore. Fruits and vegetables were fine for our weekend getaways. Coffee and breakfast supplies amply stocked. It's conveniently located in the center of the small downtown, with plenty of parking, making it easy to obtain all of our weekend needs. It's fun that they also have floaties for beach/lake time, and beach toys. We also found some super-random items, but I guess it truly means there is something there for everyone. read more

we rented a drug shampoo device. when got home it had dirty brushes, dirty porthole, and 2 inches of dried dirt in dirty tank. the woman who checked it out said it was fine but I watched her and she did a cursory check of tank. you would not see the dirt due to the darkened glass. she did not check port or brushes. we came back a couple hours later to rent brush and hose. woud work! turns out was broken and shouldn't have been rented. two useless trips from Manson to Chelan. you know in all of this no one said they were sorry. just go away. They could have cared less. I don't know who the manager is but doubt he cares. this is my local store. disappointed that service is unimportant. Bill Danke read more

What's there to say? I mean, it's a Safeway. They have all the stuff you need for your Air B or hotel fridge. This deli has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. When they are not actively avoiding customers they are rude, impatient and disrespectful. This attitude is not only displayed to their customers but to other employees behind the counter. Their negative attitude seems to permeate through all of the deli staff. Been shopping at this Safeway in Chelan for 12 years. It's not the only game in town, especially now with the Super Walmart just outside town. However if you want to support the smaller grocery stores in town then just down the road is a Red Apple Market. Continue up the highway to Manson and there is another Red Apple Market with a really awesome selection of stuff Safeway does not have. As for this Safeway, always been a pleasurable experience. This is the place to shop if you are in Chelan. Great place to pick up any food/beverage/water options or things you might have forgotten, like playing cards, before staying the night in Chelan. Most places in town are great about "picnicking" so grab your bucket of cold chicken, get your sandwiches from the deli, and enjoy! The deli is fully stocked and this grocer has everything you'll need for camping or tourists. The public restroom is unisex and basic, I think the campground restrooms are cleaner, but dial your city-exceptions down and simmer your pace to "lake lifestyle" thinking of "aloha time" as the folks here know the locals from tourists and you'll be just fine! read more

Theresa in the bakery dept is amazing. Not only is her cake decorating/art work impeccable and beautiful, her customer service went above and beyond what I could have expected. We had a mix up on a relatively big order I had placed (celebrating lots of birthdays on one day!) and although it was not her mistake, she stayed late to correct it and get my order completed. The pharmacy is absolutely horrible totally understaffed trying to get prescriptions transferred to another Safeway location. THEY DO NOT answer the phone!! Even when other pharmacies call you cannot even leave a message. I am sooooooo angry after 4 attempts to get prescriptions filled I guess we just get sick because we cannot get our meds. Customer service at Safeway in general has depleted. Can't wait to get my new insurance plan and not use any of Safeway pharmacies so disappointed. Will no longer shop there for groceries either. read more

What can you say? It's a Safeway - it has aisles of food that are seemingly replenished at all times by minions hiding inside the shelves I believe. I've also heard the belts at the checkout are powered by armies of ants that run upside down all at the control of the powerful checkout clerks. Ha. All in all though, it's an average Safeway in a gorgeous part of the world. Parking is free - which is great considering so many places in Chelan charge for parking which is ridiculous. It's one of the local places right in town so you don't have much competition besides the Red Apple markets and the Walmart way outside of town. This is one of those smaller stores but they do their best to fit as much merchandise in as they can. Good choice of merchandiser andthe prices are fair for a resort town. Definitely one of the places to use when needing groceries in town. read more

This is the most consistently understaffed store I have ever been to. It's common knowledge in Chelan that the check out lines are unbelievably long, so most locals try to avoid going. It's an awful experience every time. There is no reason to even hope for a call for another checker. If it ever happens, there is none available. read more

Pretty much your standard, everyday Safeway. Summer time in Chelan is always busy, but everything in the store was pretty well stocked. My dad was carb loading for the half marathon the next day, and the lady at the deli was really helpful in getting him the food he needed to be set for his race the next day. A few of the salads in the produce had reached their expiration date though. The cashiers seemed flustered, but I can only imagine what they have to go through during those summer months containing huge rushes of customers. read more

Super crowded and about 10 percent of people not wearing masks. It was really disturbing. One girl was walking around in a bikini covering her mouth with her long finger nails. Stay away unless you want to catch coronavirus. I called and spoke with customer service. She was very sweet but said there is nothing they can do to enforce this. I feel bad for the people who work there who are exposed like this. Since masks are required by law it seems like the store should have someone standing at the entrance and not allowing people in without masks. It's a sad situation. This Safeway was just like any other Safeway at first glance. The shelf's full for the most part, trying but failing to prevent the spread of COVID. And in these uncertain times I would like to know that my local Safeway has everything I need, but I was disappointed to say the least. The main problem with the Safeway was their sushi, I know it may sound silly but where I come from sushi is a sacred food that should be kept and stored with cared, but when i bought a box of spicy California rolls I was disappointed to see they were frozen and hard. read more

Darigold Milk of one variety or another is often out, head lettuce seems to also be out way too often. A small bag of apples (which was not priced) turns out to be $3.49 a pound and a $16 surprise for 8 apples when you get to the register. The Deli is understaffed and poorly trained. The Pharmacy is slow and just not very friendly. They will tell you 20 minutes and will still be fumbling around 60 minutes later. Insurance info gets lost in an outdated computer system. All of this stuff is fixable, but someone has to give a hoot for it to happen. read more

Your standard Safeway I guess, but it's really the only joint in town to get whatever you need, so that's why it rocks. A perfect place to pick up all your gourmet dinner needs, and they had a great wine selection that was priced well-below the Seattle prices. I guess it's because they're surrounded by vineyards. We came to Chelan for vacation and picked up Chinese food from their hot food section for a quick last minute dinner. By far the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. So so bad. Went there for some quick Chinese takeout. Probably the worst takeout I've had at a Safeway. Granted it's not a Chinese restaurant but there is some minimal expectation of taste and service. The General Tsao chicken tasted like teriyaki chicken and they had accidentally dropped a generous amount of sesame seeds on it and didn't bother to take them off. The chow mein was more like spaghetti with no taste, basically spaghetti. Fried rice was more like steamed rice overcooked with a few veggies added. I like this store mostly for the people but the store recently made a huge mistake which may change where we shop. They had the most wonderful movie rental customer service area and got rid of it! It was a big reason we went there every time. Now there is just a dumb box you rent movies from. Sad. I can get redbox movies anywhere including the local gas station! An semi-annual visitor to Lake Chelan, I visited Safeway a few times again in August 2013, the first time since my last visit to Safeway in 2012. Whoa...you got to give them credit for coming up with unique ways to create a negative customer experience. I don't drink, but a bottle of vodka was one of the items I purchased for my relatives. I chose this particular bottle because it was $5 off. It rang up at the full price at the register. When I called it out, the clerk walked back to the booze aisle, confirmed the sales price, and credited me back the difference. Stuff happens, right? Two days later, I buy the SAME bottle again , and it is still on sale but rings up AGAIN at the regular HIGHER price. Repeat above process. This time I tell the clerk to please be sure to pass this on to the management. I could tell I didn't have the clerk's attention, and it appeared to me she wasn't going to bother taking the time to report the discrepancy so it could get fixed in the computer system. My take away? I don't know why Chelan's Safeway's computer doesn't always reflect accurate sale prices (accidental or deliberate?). I do know to keep my purchases to under 10 items so I can carefully monitor the prices that get rung up. My experiences at other Safeways in Seattle and Tacoma have been much different. read more
